Versus – Mata, Hazard, Sterling and Ramsey

There may be under a week left under the 2014/15 season gets underway but for many Fantasy managers, the midfield dilemma is yet to be resolved. In the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, in particular, the player price list has handed us numerous options to consider for our five-man midfields, with ten players coming in at 9.0 or over:

In this, our latest article for members, we take a look at four of the main contenders – Eden Hazard, Aaron Ramsey, Juan Mata and Raheem Sterling – currently on Fantasy radars.

Sterling has netted in two of his last four appearances and, after notching nine times last term, is backed by many to step up for Liverpool after Luis Suarez’ departure. Ramsey’s 10 goals and nine assists in just 23 appearances last season has catapulted the Welshman into the premium bracket at 9.0, with his strike in yesterday’s Community Shield handing us a timely reminder of his talents. Mata (9.0) has been one of Louis van Gaal’s star performers in the role in “the hole” in a new 3-4-1-2 formation, whilst the 10.0-priced Hazard, despite only returning to pre-season action last week, sits in 22% of squads ahead of fixtures against promoted pair Burnley and Leicester in his first two fixtures.

Casting an eye back to last season, then, we delve into the data and compare their respective displays. First up, we assess each player’s creativity and distribution.

Problem is that at 7.0, there are slim pickings in terms of strikers.
Going down to 6.0 affords more choice.

If Spurs don't sign another striker, whichever one becomes first choice is going to be nearly essential.

I should probably elaborate...I have A because I believe they are going to start the season better (despite B having more Chelsea players). Costa is still new to the premier league, and don't underestimate that fact, it took a magnificent striker such as Bony a long time to get adjusted last season. Hazard's lack of a pre season will surely work against him, no matter how much of a beast he is. Fabregas has been in terrific form and usually starts the season well (anyone remember the GW1 where he got over 15 points?) and despite joining from La Liga, he has an abundance of experience in the prem, so is likely to settle in nicely. Sturridge has had some concerns over pre season, but none have been issues with his form. He is a terrific GW1 captain option and is likely to get Golden Boot provided Sergio Aguero spends some more time in the medical tent.

    A) Sterling, Fletcher, NTaylor

Bearing in mind that choosing A would involve Taylor would be part of 2 x 4.5 rotation for the 3rd defensive position each week.

Imagine that Sterling is a forward... Would you have a cheap mid?
So what is the difference between a cheap mid playing a 3-4-3, and a cheap forward playing a 3-5-2?
Just go for Sterling and a cheapo forward.

The one difference is that a 4.5 mid may be playable, whereas a 4.5 forwarx probably isn't.

it adds up all players right? it should subtract those on the bench to account for rotation of players, predicting the actual points you will realize.

Be careful with this. Some players are highly rated due to last season stats and not taking into account transfers and pre-season. Other players have low values despite being good - this is because there seems to be added in a % chance of starts into the value. This is not realistic - either they start or they dont.

My teams have ranged from 305 to 325, which is ok imo.

Morning DZ! i know there is a RMT thread but please excuse me putting on here for the DZ's opinion

    Begovic
    Evans/Chambers/Baird
    Ramsey/Hazard//Mata/Sterling
    Costa/Rooney/Austin

    Subs- Elliot/Chester/Hutton/Isgrove

    .5 left

    My general thoughts/reasoning-
    - Chambers is short term. Looking to end up with back line of
    Evans/ Marriapa/Chester/Baird/QPR 4.5
Happy to wait and see if Marriapa starting and who is nailed at 4.5 for QPR
    -Save the .5?
    - Isgrove can be any .5, dont plan to use v often
    -Sterling could be Eriksson

    Any thoughts, ideas, criticism welcome.

(I do prefer Haz over Fab and Austin over Bojan)

Chambers is sounding interesting, but I don't thit it's worth it. Probably won't start beyong gw1, so you've almost forced into a -4.

It would make more sense to for me to start with Ferdinand over Chambers as i aim to end up with a QPR 4.5.
Baird seems to have started most WB pre season in defensive mid. To be honset as a 4.0 def just want him on the pitch,

Interesting team. I'm seeing a lot of Begovic which I'm not sold on. For 0.5m more you could get DDG for the long term.

The defense is interesting but could work out great. I remember last season it was Jenkinson who was surging up the ranks starting every week, and Chambers could be one of those. Will Baird start? Also I'm struggling to find a 5th mid, and Isgrove is alright I suppose. Any other alternatives there?

Otherwise, solid looking. Like the Austin punt.

Playing the fixtures. Both City and Pool aren't the hottest. I'm not entirely sold on the rotation, but it's guaranteed home and away rotation for a fair price so can't be too disastrous.

      Im sure you are aware
      - Im still concerned about rotation/ starting places of CH back 4
      - Bojan, personally not on this one. Alll good if goes well but if not it will take 2 transfers to make him to a 6.0

It's really not a great idea to be planning a WC that early in the season. I'm not the best person to be telling you this since I plan on WCing between 7 and 8, but that's just because there's too many factors that point towards it being the best time to use the WC. Could I suggest that you display your bench anyway so that people can give you better advice regarding your whole team, for all I know there could be a much better way to spend your money than having a 5.5 defender that you rotate despite magnificent early fixtures, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what it is because I'm not sure who your 5th mid and 3rd striker are.

Aside from that little rant, it looks a decent team.

            Value Over Replacement Player.

I like the punt on Young and feel I can switch to whichever cheap mid gets a bandwagon early on. Thanks.

Nice team! And very similar to my team, I have:

      bego 4
      evans kaboul 4.5/4.5/4.0
      Ramsey hazard hendo Young 4.5
      Rooney Costa Sturridge

I figure that if neither of the heavy hitters or young start firing it's an easy downgrade to jump on a bandwagon.

    DDG
Ward - Debuchy - Filipe Louis
    Mata - Ramsey - Sterling - Lamela - Siggy
    Costa - Rooney

    4,0 - Zamora - 4,0 - 4,0

RMT thanks 🙂 And who are the most nailed on 4,0? I have Moore and Duff.

I'd try and find 0.5m for Zamora to Jutkiewicz who will play until Vokes is back for Burnley. Yes, Moore and Duff are the safest 4m options in defence. Great team though.
