Scout Notes – Gameweek 1 – Monday

Cesc Fabregas grabs a pair of assists as Chelsea overcome Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor. Diego Costa nets on his league debut, while Branislav Ivanovic and Andre Schurrle are also amongst the goals as the Blues get off to an impressive start.

Chelsea New Boys Dazzle in Burnley Destruction
Positioned in the Blues double-pivot alongside Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas showed that, despite a deep-lying role, he looks poised to play a major part in our Fantasy seasons. The Spaniard pulled the strings for Jose Mourinho’s side in an outstanding first-half display that harvested a pair of assists and the maximum bonus points as he overshadowed the pricier Eden Hazard in the Chelsea midfield.

Up front, Diego Costa continued the momentum that saw him score four times over the summer friendlies. Drafted in by 37% of FPL managers prior to the weekend, the former Atletico Madrid man was second only to Wayne Rooney in last week’s Captain Poll and his predatory instincts will surely persuade more to invest as Mourinho’s men welcome Leicester, Swansea and Villa to the Bridge in the next five.

Schurrle Stakes a Claim
The German’s excellent strike also brings him onto radars as a potential mid-price option. Coming in at just 7.5, Schurrle scored eight times in just over 1400 minutes last season, with an average of 176.4 minutes per goal quicker than any Chelsea player – currently sitting in just 6% of FPL sides, he looks a real prospect if he can retain the role on the right of the attacking midfield three.

Luis and Cech Warm the Blues Bench
Mourinho started last season’s back-four for the Burnley clash as new signing Filipe Luis was named amongst the substitutes, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic fielded as full-backs. Clearly, though, the new boy won’t be expected to sit on the bench every week and it may not be for a number of matches before we get a clear idea of Mourinho’s intentions – there seems little conclusions can be made on last night’s team sheet. Thibaut Courtois got the nod ahead of Petr Cech for the number one jersey, though before the match, the Blues boss added further uncertainty to the situation by stating:

“Thibaut is my number one tonight against Burnley. I don’t make decisions for the season; I make decisions for a match.”

Arfield’s Budget Appeal
The Clarets man was one of only three budget midfielders to get amongst the goals this week, along with Ki Sung-Yeung and Lee Cattermole. Having netted eight times in last year’s Championship, Arfield carries the main scoring threat in the centre of the park in Sean Dyche’s side and, after proving his capabilities against a side that chalked up 18 clean sheets last season, could come into contention as a cheap fifth midfield option.

I would have thought the opposite ? Supplying R.V.P = more assists . A change of formation on the other hand with Mata deeper or out wide is another matter

If you have wildcarded this week it would make sense to change Mata to Fab to get the price drop/increase.

Then if you still want Mata for Saturday, transfer back in for Fab Saturday morning and gain the 0.1m ( if both drop and increase by 0.1m) added to the funds?

My punt with two AFC defenders at home against Palace obviously didn't turn out as planned, so I am thinking about doing Chambers to Chester. But is there more pressing matters? Should I get rid of Young (what was I thinking?!) or free up some cash ang either go Hazard -> Fabregas or Sanchez -> Ramsey.

Id be very surprised if he didnt. He's hit 200+ in 2 previous campaigns (yes, i know for a different team) one when he was very young indeed.

My conservative estimate was 2800 or so mins barring injury at a rate of 0.075 per minute (significantly less than the average of his last 4000 minutes in the premier league). Which would give him 210.

The real question is: Will Hazard be worth the extra 1m?

Aguero has, from GW3 ; STO, ars, CHE, hul

A big thanks to the whole community for the useful discussion that has lead me to a very decent opening gameweek.

79 points, no transfers required, a rank of 5089, and and Ultimate ranking of 26th! I may have gotten lucky that so many of my players scored attacking returns, but you make your own luck in this game.

The constant discussion around game time, injuries, and pre season form has made this site the only place I need to come to do my research. It gives me a perfect platform to make my own informed decisions. So well done to everyone involved in the site, keep up the good work.

    So i have a dilemma.

I have Coutinho in my side, I can swop him for

    (a)Lamela/Eriksen/Sterling

or I can swap Sturridge for Aguero.

    Any ideas?

If you picked Coutinho knowing what you know about him why are you bailing out after a week?

Do people think Fabregas could be the old Mata at Chelsea providing consistent point returns and Hazard to remain the explosive one?

If so, I always favoured consistency...

I think both will do very well for their price. Expecting 6 PPG for Haz and 5.5 PPG for Cesc.

Hey everyone, just to check, I should save my FT, right?

    Krul (Foster)

    Chester // Jones // Taylor

    Mata // Ramsey // Sigurdsson // Fabregas

    Rooney // Jovetic // Costa

    (Pieters // Wanyama // Caulker)

    thanks all

I think sticking with Jovetic could be a bit risky.

Probably gonna stick with him for max. one more week, then I might bring in remy/adebayor depending what I do with my other ft

I don't wanna get remy this week because of his tough fixture and im not gonna take a -4 when jovetic could well start

If you're holding him why is the price drop a problem?

    GW2 team thoughts?

    Begovic (Elliot)

    Terry, Clyne, Debuchey (Coloccini, Caulker)

Mata, Fabregas (C), Siggy, Ramsey (Marney)

    Costa (VC), Rooney, Bojan

I'm not sure about the last defence spot (Debuchey, Colo or Caulker), I don't expect any of them will keep a clean sheet...

Also, my knee is seriously jerking to take -4 for mata>sterling with the incoming price fall/rise tonight, I'm going to stay strong though (hopefully) I didn't buy mata for 1 game...

Play Austin or Caulker this week guys?

Caulker tempting me because of his goal threat and facing his old club?

I have both. Playing Austin atm. Will need convincing to play Caulker in this one.
