With the international break affording us time to reflect on proceedings, we roll out the first in a series of three members articles. Starting with the defenders, we assess some of the standout contenders across the first three Gameweeks of the 2014/15 campaign.
... a touchdown. T'was Derrick, not Seamus. 🙂
Green Bay embarrassing themselves.
You wanna see embarrassment? Watch my Jets play! SMH
No thanks. 😀
Not their best game, but the Seahawks are very good...
I can’t stand Russell Wilson.
He's easy to hate. What did he do to get a game ball tonight? 🙄
They're good, yes. But GB didn't have to hand it to them. Gutless effort.
Wow ow Federer!
Have to feel for Monfils.
Too many unforced errors
Still, two match points and now it's got away from him. I played through college. There's nothing worse than a match turning like that.
The fifth set made me cringe.
To quote Boris Becker: a fifth set has nothing to do with tennis.😆 Class quote that.
Following on from SAB's comment on page 13 regarding wildcards and drop thresholds:
I suspect the drop threshold is still about 10% of a player's ownership and that wildcards don't count towards NTI.
The international break after GW3 is one of the busiest times each year for wildcards being played. Wildcard played during the break will probably top the 266,471 played last week, but let's use that figure for the purpose of demonstration.
Rooney was owned by 46.4% on Saturday and 46.4% of 266,471 is 123,641 (rounded down). Take that away from Rooney's NTI this week of around -209,000 and you have -85,359. That would probably put him less than 60% of the way to a drop if he was at around neutral NTI at the start of the week.
Yes, not all Rooney's wildcarding owners will be moving him on, but with only about 7,000 having transferred him in this week, the lack of confidence in Rooney among FPL players is clear. I think many wildcard players will be moving him on and the volume will be sufficiently great to give legs to the "wildcards don't count" theory. Thanks for trying to make sense of my early morning ramble earlier Diva, yours makes more sense.
By the way, by your estimations Rooney is 60% on the way to a drop. FISO also has him around 53%.
Maybe they are getting closer or maybe a total coincidence? They might be close. I think Rooney may have been in positive NTI at the start of the week given his GW1 goal.
I know Naismith is the Everton striker of choice at the moment, but I'm strongly considering Lukaku. Anyone else considering Lukaku or already have him?
Noope.
5pm. 3.5 hours to go..
Deadzone...let's do something about this price rise/fall debacle. This is key info and they need to be transparent with it. Let's flood the FPL towers with emails which can be found via the "Help" link on the far right of the website.
I just sent the below, feel free to use as a template...
In years past TotalFpl and Fiso Crack The Code were able to predict price rises/falls of players to a fairly accurate degree. However, this season it looks like they're being blocked from accessing the necessary info. Price rises/falls shouldn't be kept in the dark....PLEASE allow Totalfpl and Fiso access to the necessary info. As is, Fantasy football is an educated guessing game creating significant variation throughout all of the teams...price rises/falls should be information that the astute manager should have access to. Thanks!I'd prefer the just put the price change info on the main FPL site. Allowing 3rd party sites to guess the info only benefits a small minority. Let it be available for everyone to even the playing field.
Or just let it be available to none. I'm happy either way
casuals dont deserve that sort of info
Dumbing down the game. Do not like.
While I'm all for freedom of information... the thing is, we have no god given right to access that information in the first place...
If they have hidden the Col5 information from the people who use it to predict price rises, then they must be doing it for a reason...
I reckon we accept it, and adapt accordingly...Here here
It's the other one... 😉
Dammit! I always get that wrong 😡
I agree in principle but the transfer market is a joke as is, everyone could transfer in the next hot target and the penalty for missing the boat is negligible. See Michu last yr for example.
The penalty for missing the boat in that regard is the same, your still missing his points haul from the previous games... and spending transfers (points hits possibly too) to get in said player...
You just won't be paying 0.3-0.6m premium this time, more like 0.1-0.2m...
I'm no saying I agree with what they are doing, but looks like we don't have a choice but to accept it...Last sentence is absolutely the case zep, the lack of a premium is kinda my point tho. Come to mid/later on in the season having played the market you get nice rewards in my experience the extra money will always help your final score..
That sadly looks like TV differentials will be minimal. Its a big part of my game anyhoo.Yeah after last year, I actually had it in mind to try to build extra TV early on too, but that plan was shattered right off the bat...
Oh well, I wont be deterred.. 🙂 Good luck brother.
Agree...big part of my game as well. First season I played...ended up around 93k and didn't know about totalfpl or fiso. Have finished under 15k for the last few years using the price rise/fall websites.
Well...if they continue to block access the very least would be to explain the current formula.
Buy the right players and TV will go up accordingly. It's like we've all been using steroids a la Ben Johnson / Lance Armstrong these last few years. Now the playing field has been leveled. The cream should rise to the top in that case.
It's a good thing that we don't have the inside info.
Knowing a player will rise/fall clouds one's judgement more than anything.
Those staring at the transfers in/out still know that players are likely to rise or fall, but not necessarily the precise day it will happen. Makes the game better, in my opinion. But Shirley we will work it out eventually or at least have an approximate idea of rises n fallers and we will be back to square one, except without having a decent transfer market as one of the tools to use to advance our points tally over the season.
I mentioned it last night, but if I were to design a price change system, I would build some randomness into it... achieving a certan NTI threshold makes a price change more likely, but not automatic. That way, even if anyone knows the mechanism, the changes can't be known with any accuracy. I don't think this is what they are doing, but the result is the same: no one can predict the exact timing of any changes.
I agree, a lot of my past transfers have been dictated by the rising and falling of certain players...
I don't even check the price feature anymore, and even if they figure it out, I probably won't bother...I never payed it much attention. If a players getting lots of transfers in I might risk an early trade. If not I won't. Don't really need to know exactly when and what changes will occur imo
Agree, there wont really be any point if the ups n downs are so miniscule. atm it feels like a dumbing it down personally speaking.
*or should I say a simplification of the game.
I’ve seen de Jong maybe out for months does this mean a more advanced role for Cabella?
More central I think. Behind the striker instead of wide. Looks a quality ff prospect imo
my OP WC team as a result of my OP budget
Krelliot
Moreno_Clyne_Pieters........naylor,duff
Fab_Sterling_Siggy_hendo......king
Aguero(C)_Falcao_CostaIf a player has left the premiership, can his price still drop as people slowly offload him?
Wanna know should i dump my cheap mid asap or can i wait
CheersI think his price is now locked.
Thanks mate
@Champ
Missed your post about the draft league. Let me know, mate. 😀Will do
Cheers
Sent heels over head an email ten days ago but no answer yet. I'm sure he said either first or second international break depending on how the settling in to a new country goes
I'll even handle it in the interim and turn over the reins when he's back if you like.
It will probably be 2nd international break. I'll try to find out how many if any free spots there will be. Depends on the twenty that were involved last season. They get first dibs of course. My guess is a couple will drop out
Sounds good.
Don't forget about me, Mr. Champion. Always a willing and able/cannon fodder participant 🙂 You have my mail..
Alright will keep you both in mind 🙂
No promises though it's up to the others
"If you want to assert a truth, first make sure it's not just an opinion that you want desperately to be true" - Neil DeGrasse Tyson
Where are we at kids:
A) mata + rooney + Jovetic > sterling + aguero + welbeck (-8)
B) mata + rooney > sterling + falcao (-4)
C) mata > sterlingB

RMT 1-10 please;
Begovic - (Myhill)
Ivanovic - Debuchy - Vertonghen - (Chambers - Moore)
Sterling - Sigurdsson - Fabregas - Ramsey - (Aarons)
Balotelli - Naismith - Diego Costa
.4 in the bank.
(Dropped Rooney for Balotelli, this round)
Planning to line up 3-4-3.
Any advice would be much appreciated.Very nice. 8/10
Will need some Aguero soonish 😉Yep, agreed. Was looking at Balotelli + Vertonghen -> Aguero + Hutton (or similar def) in round 6.
Thanks
8/10 as well, though I myself will give Manu one more chance against QPR. If nothing comes of it then I will say byebye to Rooney as well
Sorry but i think you spent too much on defence.
Midfield is terrific.
Not sold on Balo just yet, though he has the fixtures. i wouldn't drop Rooney just yet, but you might have did the right thing.
I'd downgrade Debs and remove Cahmbers (this is a Gooner speaking). Get Clyne, Moreno or Janmaat. Plan to bring Falcao and/or Kun at some stage is what I'd do.
Hey. Guys,
Woke up a bit ago. Thought I would post before getting the head down Again.
Am gutted that De Jong may be set to be out for a while. However, I have just read up on Cabella. Was hoping that he, too, might be 7 mill. Lot of expectation for him at Newcastle. Think I just might punt on him... 🙂Looked quality vs city. Good pick I reckon
Has been likened to both Ginola and CR in the past 😮 Am gonna do SDJ to him after this coming GW, I think 🙂
Go for it. Should be fielded in the hole from now on.
yep could be a good punt, nice fixtures too
Chadli, cheaper, more direct, playing almost as a 2nd striker in a better team
Yes, that's the other good one
I'm not as keen on him yet. He doesn't seem to have his finishing boots on yet even though he has looked lively. I'd still want to wait on some returns from him before buying.
Agree Walsh...all flash no finish so far...definitely talented but would wait for returns first.
Jovetic making a cameo this gameweek? What are people doing, keeping or switching to another striker? Who would you take in at same or lower price?
Keep. If you, like many, brought him in after his brace, you'd want to be sure that he's dead wood before shipping him off again.
I am giving him this game week. If no returns, or he plays less than 60 minutes I will transfer him to Ade/Pelle/Welbeck/Naismith before GW5. Was always a short-term option, IMO.This. A short-term pick that is kinds worth holding onto, for now. I have another FT and can ditch him for Naismith/Welbeck/Pelle, but i think a striker's spot is very valuable. Might get Kun/Falcao for him at the expense of another biggie at the back/mid later on.
Thanks! It's just starting to look that Dzeko and Aquero will start, ie. Jovetic's minutes will be max.15-20 or someting....Aquero playd almost the whole game last week. And in addition to this, City's fixtures are difficult, Ars, Chelsea etc. So it's have a feeling that it should be done now. The problem is that I wanna get rid of Debuchy as well, so maybe worth not taking hit to sort out both of these problems....
This is my team for GW4, DZ.
............................Krul
...............Terry, Chester, Clyne
Ramsey, Fábregas, Sterling (VC), Sigurdsson
............(C)osta, Rooney, Jovetic
Gilks, Naylor, Hutton, Albrighton.
1.1 ITB, 1 FT
Saving. Any objections?
Thanks all.Looking good. Maybe a good idea to spend this transfer and next to change Rooney and Jovetic to two different strikers with better outlooks. Or could always pump some more money into defense somewhere. Looks good in general though, NO objections 🙂
He has a very, very similar team with mine.
Similar thinking, Walsh. Roo & Jove -> Tadic & Falcao or Jove -> Kun & Haz -> 6.2 next.(depending on performance in GW4) 😉Rooney Jov and whichever Chelsea mid to be replaced with Kun Falcao and Zaha looks a treat! 😀
That's the route I'm going. Mouth watering attack 😎
My trade plans are below.
Excellent, thank you.
Damn, we have EXACTLY the same starting XI, except that you got Cesc while I got Hazard 😆
Captain is toss of coin between the two. otherwise gtg.haha, I must be doing something right then, although my points total begs to differ!
Relax, remember it's not a sprint, but a marathon 😉
precisely!
Jovetic > Pelle and you're laughing
One route I will consider in GW5. I am tempted but his very low ownership means I can postpone and consider my options later.
True but good chance you'll miss a haul (NEW)
I know. He has fixtures with him but still a punt nonetheless. It's okay to be a bit late if he's under 3% ownership.
You already own him aite? Good luck. I'm praying for a MOTM performance from Krul 😉I have em both so happy either way 😉
Pelle brace offset by a Krul penalty save in a perfect world 🙂
Jovetic to Adebayor....and next week Rooney to Falcao depending on how they play.
My plan for GW5 was Terry, Rooney, Jovetic -> Moreno, Aguero, Pelle/Ade/Welbeck.
How does that sound.Sounds like a very decent plan. Maybe Pelle or Welbs from that lot, depending on GW4 performance.
Another option for me is to downgrade Cecs/Haz and use that money to get Falcao instead 😎 Let's monitor for now.Could definitely be an option - Zaha/Chadli on my radar for sure...
Agree that it's best not to get ahead of ourselves 😀
Anyone have the top 10,000 any season code? Thanx.
Which 2 of these 3: Aguero, Hazard, Di Maria?
First two
This. FPL proven.
Agree. Proven in fantasy and in real terms. Both playing in much better teams. Pens too
And has registered one measley shot on goal in three matches.
That can't be right. He had a shot on goal last game and he's already scored twice 😕
Oh wait ignore me. Thought this was about Chadli 😳
Aguero Haz.....Utd isn't the Argentina natl team...I'm steering clear until they show some fluidity in their attack.
1 & 3
Aquero Hazard
Adebayor or Naismith?
Woops, post fail.
First 2
You guys rock and confirmed my feelings. Cheers!
lol @ people who took Aaron Rodgers in the first round.
🙂
GoodnightEnglish posts only please
Pfft. Fascist.
Hey they're Marks terms and conditions 😛
I'm just a law abiding citizen😀
I got Drew in the 2nd in both my prize leagues.
You're so impressed. 😛Tom Brady is better
At photo ops 😀
shawx vs jones!
Jones. Don't think shawx is worth .5 more than pieters
I'd back Jones to hurt Shawx but injure himself as well.
So Shawx comes out on top.Get Wilson! Save 1m over Jones
Is he nailed though?
Which Team looks better?
Krul / Myhill(Foster - hand injury)
Clyne - Ivanovic - Moreno (Taylor / Duff)
Sterling - Fabregas - Ramsey - Sigurdsson (King)
Costa - Aguero - Naismith
0.0m
Begovic / Elliot
Clyne - Duff - Moreno (PVA / Taylor)
Sterling - Ramsey - Sigurdsson - Hazard (Marney)
Costa - Rooney - Welbeck
1.0mFirst one imo.
Top imo
top
1st one, just. Aguero tips it over the line
First one short term , second one long term imo ( ahhh less Rooney though)
Adebayor or Naismith?
neither. Naismith if you must.
I've got 8.7 for a striker, so I can just afford Adebayor. But if I choose Naismith then I'll have 3.3 in the bank.
Naismith and upgrade elsewhere
best midfield under 6.2?? and 5.7??
already have 2 liverpool so henderson is not really a choice in 6.2... ( 5.7 is if i go 5.5 def over janmaat)!!
sorry for confusing post...Zaha & JWP
JWP
Dyer, Noble, Arfield
Is Jason Puncheon a decent choice for a 4th mid along with Ramsey, Sterling and Siggy?
He's a wait and see, new manager could drop him for zaha
Im looking at him too - for Mata gw 4 or 5.
This based on my WC plan at next int break thoughWould have same mids as yours then
Morning!
A) Iva + Zaha
B) Terry + PuncheonA
This
A
Afternoon folks,
A) Henderson + Falcao
or
B) Di Maria + Naismith
with reasons, please 🙂B IMO because I rate Naismith over hendo and it saves you cash
Good call that
