Following on from SAB's comment on page 13 regarding wildcards and drop thresholds:

I suspect the drop threshold is still about 10% of a player's ownership and that wildcards don't count towards NTI.

The international break after GW3 is one of the busiest times each year for wildcards being played. Wildcard played during the break will probably top the 266,471 played last week, but let's use that figure for the purpose of demonstration.

Rooney was owned by 46.4% on Saturday and 46.4% of 266,471 is 123,641 (rounded down). Take that away from Rooney's NTI this week of around -209,000 and you have -85,359. That would probably put him less than 60% of the way to a drop if he was at around neutral NTI at the start of the week.

Yes, not all Rooney's wildcarding owners will be moving him on, but with only about 7,000 having transferred him in this week, the lack of confidence in Rooney among FPL players is clear. I think many wildcard players will be moving him on and the volume will be sufficiently great to give legs to the "wildcards don't count" theory.

Thanks for trying to make sense of my early morning ramble earlier Diva, yours makes more sense.

By the way, by your estimations Rooney is 60% on the way to a drop. FISO also has him around 53%.

Maybe they are getting closer or maybe a total coincidence?

They might be close. I think Rooney may have been in positive NTI at the start of the week given his GW1 goal.

Deadzone...let's do something about this price rise/fall debacle. This is key info and they need to be transparent with it. Let's flood the FPL towers with emails which can be found via the "Help" link on the far right of the website.

I just sent the below, feel free to use as a template...

In years past TotalFpl and Fiso Crack The Code were able to predict price rises/falls of players to a fairly accurate degree. However, this season it looks like they're being blocked from accessing the necessary info. Price rises/falls shouldn't be kept in the dark....PLEASE allow Totalfpl and Fiso access to the necessary info. As is, Fantasy football is an educated guessing game creating significant variation throughout all of the teams...price rises/falls should be information that the astute manager should have access to. Thanks!

I'd prefer the just put the price change info on the main FPL site. Allowing 3rd party sites to guess the info only benefits a small minority. Let it be available for everyone to even the playing field.

While I'm all for freedom of information... the thing is, we have no god given right to access that information in the first place...

If they have hidden the Col5 information from the people who use it to predict price rises, then they must be doing it for a reason...

I reckon we accept it, and adapt accordingly...

I agree in principle but the transfer market is a joke as is, everyone could transfer in the next hot target and the penalty for missing the boat is negligible. See Michu last yr for example.

        1. Zep
          • 14 Years
          9 years, 9 months ago

The penalty for missing the boat in that regard is the same, your still missing his points haul from the previous games... and spending transfers (points hits possibly too) to get in said player...

You just won't be paying 0.3-0.6m premium this time, more like 0.1-0.2m...

I'm no saying I agree with what they are doing, but looks like we don't have a choice but to accept it...

Last sentence is absolutely the case zep, the lack of a premium is kinda my point tho. Come to mid/later on in the season having played the market you get nice rewards in my experience the extra money will always help your final score..
That sadly looks like TV differentials will be minimal. Its a big part of my game anyhoo.

Buy the right players and TV will go up accordingly. It's like we've all been using steroids a la Ben Johnson / Lance Armstrong these last few years. Now the playing field has been leveled. The cream should rise to the top in that case.

It's a good thing that we don't have the inside info.
Knowing a player will rise/fall clouds one's judgement more than anything.
Those staring at the transfers in/out still know that players are likely to rise or fall, but not necessarily the precise day it will happen. Makes the game better, in my opinion.

But Shirley we will work it out eventually or at least have an approximate idea of rises n fallers and we will be back to square one, except without having a decent transfer market as one of the tools to use to advance our points tally over the season.

I mentioned it last night, but if I were to design a price change system, I would build some randomness into it... achieving a certan NTI threshold makes a price change more likely, but not automatic. That way, even if anyone knows the mechanism, the changes can't be known with any accuracy. I don't think this is what they are doing, but the result is the same: no one can predict the exact timing of any changes.

      2. Zep
        • 14 Years

I agree, a lot of my past transfers have been dictated by the rising and falling of certain players...

I don't even check the price feature anymore, and even if they figure it out, I probably won't bother...

I never payed it much attention. If a players getting lots of transfers in I might risk an early trade. If not I won't. Don't really need to know exactly when and what changes will occur imo

Sorry but i think you spent too much on defence.
      Midfield is terrific.
Not sold on Balo just yet, though he has the fixtures. i wouldn't drop Rooney just yet, but you might have did the right thing.

I'd downgrade Debs and remove Cahmbers (this is a Gooner speaking). Get Clyne, Moreno or Janmaat. Plan to bring Falcao and/or Kun at some stage is what I'd do.

Keep. If you, like many, brought him in after his brace, you'd want to be sure that he's dead wood before shipping him off again.

I am giving him this game week. If no returns, or he plays less than 60 minutes I will transfer him to Ade/Pelle/Welbeck/Naismith before GW5. Was always a short-term option, IMO.

This. A short-term pick that is kinds worth holding onto, for now. I have another FT and can ditch him for Naismith/Welbeck/Pelle, but i think a striker's spot is very valuable. Might get Kun/Falcao for him at the expense of another biggie at the back/mid later on.

Thanks! It's just starting to look that Dzeko and Aquero will start, ie. Jovetic's minutes will be max.15-20 or someting....Aquero playd almost the whole game last week. And in addition to this, City's fixtures are difficult, Ars, Chelsea etc. So it's have a feeling that it should be done now. The problem is that I wanna get rid of Debuchy as well, so maybe worth not taking hit to sort out both of these problems....

He has a very, very similar team with mine.

        Similar thinking, Walsh. Roo & Jove -> Tadic & Falcao or Jove -> Kun & Haz -> 6.2 next.(depending on performance in GW4) 😉

Rooney Jov and whichever Chelsea mid to be replaced with Kun Falcao and Zaha looks a treat! 😀

One route I will consider in GW5. I am tempted but his very low ownership means I can postpone and consider my options later.

I know. He has fixtures with him but still a punt nonetheless. It's okay to be a bit late if he's under 3% ownership.

You already own him aite? Good luck. I'm praying for a MOTM performance from Krul 😉

Jovetic to Adebayor....and next week Rooney to Falcao depending on how they play.

My plan for GW5 was Terry, Rooney, Jovetic -> Moreno, Aguero, Pelle/Ade/Welbeck.

        How does that sound.

Sounds like a very decent plan. Maybe Pelle or Welbs from that lot, depending on GW4 performance.

Another option for me is to downgrade Cecs/Haz and use that money to get Falcao instead 😎 Let's monitor for now.
