Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 6 – Sunday

Saido Berahino bags a brace as West Brom thrash Burnley 4-0 at The Hawthorns. Graham Dorrans serves up a goal and two assists as Sean Dyche’s side concede for the first time in four league matches, while The Clarets’ woes in front of goal show little sign of improvement.

Berahino the Budget Option
Yesterday’s brace brought Saido Berahino’s tally for the season to four goals, and rocketed the England Under-21 striker up to fourth in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forwards standings. Despite this, and his meagre 5.5 price tag, Berahino still has under 5% ownership, making him a standout differential and a budget alternative to the likes of Leonardo Ulloa and Diafra Sakho. The injury struggles of team-mate Brown Ideye only increase Berahino’s potential, with the former now facing a tough task to reclaim the lone striker role for the Baggies, though upcoming fixtures against Liverpool and Man United should ensure that yesterday’s two-goal hero will have his work cut out in replicating his display in the next couple of Gameweeks at least.

Irvine’s Midfielders Finding Form
Whilst Chris Brunt earned an assist for the second match running in yesterday’s 4-0 drubbing, it was Graham Dorrans who stole the show by providing assists for both Berahino’s strikes before notching late on himself. Though these were the Scot’s first attacking points of the season, they have come at a time when the Baggies’ form is blossoming – it’s three straight wins in all competitions now for Alan Irvine’s men, and should they be able to maintain that form, the likes of Brunt, Dorrans and James Morrison could offer Fantasy managers plenty more returns over the upcoming weeks.

Baggies Backline Delivers Again
The presence of Joleon Lescott is clearly making the difference in the Baggies’ backline, with back-to-back clean sheets now accrued since the former Man City man made his debut. Owners of the 4.1-priced Andre Wisdom will also be happy with more returns from yesterday’s match, though they should be aware that the Liverpool loanee is ineligible to feature against his parent club next weekend. This will, however, hand Cristian Gamboa the chance to impress again after the Costa Rican earned an assist off the bench against Burnley. Four of West Brom’s next six home matches (CPL, NEW, WHM, AVL) look good shouts for further clean sheets, meaning that investment in one of FPL’s least popular rearguards now appears to be a canny move, with Wisdom, Lescott and Craig Dawson all offering their services for sub-5.0 price tags.

Burnley Continue to Toil
The Clarets’ run of three clean sheets came to an end yesterday, but Sean Dyche’s men still failed to offer a response at the opposite end of the pitch. Burnley have failed to score in five matches now and have netted just once this season as forward Lukas Jutkiewicz continues to toil in the absence of Danny Ings and Sam Vokes. Burnley now face Leicester, West Ham and Hull in next their five – fixtures which could still bring defensive returns, though, as we saw evidenced yesterday, their potential will continue to be diminished if they can’t break down opposition defences and end up leaving themselves open when chasing matches.

Fantasy Football Scout Community Champion needed.

As you may have noticed we’ve revamped our Scout Picks. Mark, myself, Paul and a community champion picked by you each week are up against each other.

We are now looking for Gameweek 7’s Scout Picks Community Champion to represent you and get one over on The Scouts.

To put yourself forward simply add in your Gameweek 7 Scout Picks here. For everyone else please upvote the poster you would like to represent you based on their picks.

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of budget. We are sticking to a budget of 83.5m. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team.

I’ll leave this vote for 24 hours and come back at 10am tomorrow to find out who is the community’s choice.

Once selected I’ll need you to email me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with your final scout picks and 200 word explanation (I’m happy to take bullet points) by Thursday 5pm at the latest. There is time to alter based on injuries on Friday daytime – just keep me updated by email. If your champion fails to submit their final team by this time then an assistant from our team of moderators and contributors will step in.

I’ve totted up this week’s totals so far and sadly the community is still in last place overall. A valiant effort by Giggs Boson betting on a Burnley clean sheet failed to come off. Meanwhile my reliance on The Puntmaster did (Craig Dawson!). Who will step forward to reclaim your honour in Gameweek 7?

Here’s the provisional results pending tonight’s match.

    Score so far
    Me - 57 - Moses to go
Mark 54 - Bardsley to go
    Paul 51
    Giggs Boson - 42
    Running totals so far
    Paul 332
    Mark 316
    Me 297
    Community 278

Kindly allow me to represent the community this week

      Adrian
      Moore Williams Ivanovic
      Sterling Fabregas Sigurddson Puncheon
      Costa Aguero Valencia

Here is why I have picked this team:

      - QPR are poor away from home, having scored just once in their last 3 away games, Adrian pretty much picks himself
-Burnley haven’t scored in the last 4 games, Bur(H) is the ideal fixture for any defense at the moment which is why I have opted for Moore
-Swansea are on a good run at the moment, and I expect that to continue against a Newcastle team bereft of confidence. Williams is a baps accumulator as well
-Arsenal will be without Ramsey this week, and with Wilshere also being a doubt, I have opted for Ivanovic. He has the capability of producing at both ends, defensively and offensively
-Sterling is top in midfielders for chances created at the moment, hence I’ve opted for him against West Brom at Anfield
-Fabregas will be desperate to prove Wenger wrong following his move to the Bridge, he will really want to get one over his former manager
-Mentioned it earlier as well, Newcastle defense is a shambles at the moment and with the quality that SIgurddson possesses, he is bound to produce sooner rather than later
-Hull have conceded twice in each of their last four games this season and they come up against a Palace side high on confidence. With set pieces in his locker too, Puncheon is a safe choice
      -Costa picks himself
-Villa’s bubble has burst and with City scoring goals left, right and centre, Sergio Aguero looks good to notch at the weekend
-Enner Valencia might profit from Sakho’s possible absence by getting an opportunity to play up front on his own against a QPR team which has suffered on its travels of late

I'll throw an unusually shaped hat into the ring this week - I volunteer on behalf of the RMT model. If I get voted in I'll pick the 11 players that maximise the RMT score whilst remaining in budget and standard FPL restrictions. I haven't worked out exactly what that team would look like yet (and the RMT figures could yet get tweaked) but a word of warning - if the team was made right now it looks like it would have Liverpool defence 😐

Anyway, a vote for me is a vote to pit man vs machine and see whether the Professor's baby is all it's cracked up to be!

That was my concern too but I figured one week's data for 11 players which won't even be the absolute top players according to the tool as the price/team restrictions will prevent that isn't a problem.

Schmeichel - 2nd highest amount of saves this week, and a home fixture against Burnley who are yet to score since GW 1

Zabaleta, Moreno - Very attacking fullbacks who have already notched or assisted this season, with Zabaleta getting 2 assists and 1 bonus just this weekend. Prospective fixtures against Aston Villa and West Brom respectively.

Reid - A home game against QPR. What can go wrong? 🙂 A big goal threat as well.

Di Maria, Silva, Sigurdsson and Sterling - All 4 players have showed good form this season, Silva the latest picking up 2 assists in his last game. All have great fixtures to score big. Attacking man united against leaky Everton at home. Silva vs avl. Sigurdsson up against Newcastle at home and Sterling against WBA at home.

Aguero Ulloa Valencia - All 3 have shown form of late, and all 3 have perfect fixtures to go big. Aguero scored in his last game, and now has aston villa to impress prospective owners.
Ulloa has started in the premiere league tremendously, with loads of goals and now faces a Burnley side who have just conceded 4 goals in their last away game.
Enner Valencia is my pick form West Ham's attack for their juicy fixture against Qpr. Possibly their main man up front with Sakho facing a potential ban, and has shown good form with an assist and goal in his last two.

Schmeichel: Obvious enough, given his price and Burnleys lack of goal threat!
Neil Taylor: Solid cheap pick at 4.6 against a poor Newcastle team.
Manquillo: West Brom are in good form but 'Pool have to eventually get a CS, along with his att threat.
Reid: Up against the wort team in the league, with BPs and attacking threat from corners
Silva: Looks to have picked up form and will look to continue v. a recently leaky Villa.
Di Maria: V. hard to ignore. MUFC seem full of goals at the moment.
Sigurdsson: Will look to regain his early form. The perfect FPL player.
Downing: Looks to be threatening, if he's not going to fulfill potential v. QPR, when will he?
Sterling: Liverpools main threat. If they're gonna score, he's likely to be involved.
Dzeko: Coming off the back of a brace, he looks to be hitting form. Return of Jov a threat but should start.
Costa: What else can be said, the man is scoring every single game!
Falcao: Has shown good performances so far, a matter of time until he scores!

I don't think we should have someone represent the Community more than once. Otherwise it comes down to who is on here the most and can be bothered to spam their nominations, rather than the best team.

It's more of the team though...you can spam all you like, people aren't going to bother clicking the link and voting if they don't like the team. See a lot of people complaining but I don't they see this. People who have campaigned have lost out to people who haven't...happened just last week, and the week before that.

I am assuming you are referring to Ulloa and Sakho. I should point out both are on form just now and both have easy fixtures this GW.I also fancy Sunderland to keep a CS against Stoke.

Looks a good team to me. TBH though, I voted on the basis that it doesn't have Costa in it, EVERY other submission so far does. Not saying he won't score, but he plays Arsenal, seems a good week to leave him out. We want to beat the Scouts' score, not replicate it.

Schmeichel - cheap, good chance for a cleanie
        Moreno - attacking, good fixture
        Reid - QPR at home
Zabaleta - good form, good fixture
        Sterling - obvious choice
        Dyer - differential, goalscorer
        Downing - QPR at home
Fabregas - against his old club, there will be fireworks
Ulloa - being overlooked a bit
Dzeko - he is on one of his hot streaks
        Costa - obvious choice

With so many big-names contesting it this week, some might say it’s not worth trying. But if you fancy a differential champion, and are sick of the big names winning it every week, why not give this small-time hopeful an upvote 😉

      The Team:

      Schmeichel
      Moreno Kompany Reid
      Sterling Silva Chadli Tadic
      Costa Aguero Valencia

Schmeichel – High chance of save points, against a toothless Burnley at home
Moreno – High attacking potential, against West Brom.
Reid – QPR + attacking potential.
Sterling/Silva – Good fixtures, each with relatively strong form.
Chadli – Very strong form; most likely to score for a struggling Spurs.
      Tadic – explosion imminent.
      Costa/Aguero – no brainers
Valencia – QPR + great form, playing up top with Sakho potentially out.

It’s a cheap team full of differentials, and it’s my attempt at beating out the big boys 😛 I know I’m in late but get voting!

    22. QPR expects... glory!

Suggest that the Community Champion can only be the same person once. Otherwise it's not the community being represented, just another popularity contest in a 'vote for me' world...

      My picks this week:
      Hart
      Zabaleta / Lovren / Vergini
Di Maria / Oscar / Sterling / Puncheon
      Aguero / Lukaku / Ulloa

if you vote for me i will come up with a themed pun XI. i will find a pool of 30 odd players that i like this gw then decide on a theme based on those players. maybe there will be 1 or 2 players shoe-horned in for too good to leave out pun purposes but sometimes in life you need to make sacrifices.

      vote mee

goalkeepers are tough as there is such a narrow pool to pick from, therefore they may be the best to start from and work downwards.

options include vimto mannone (STK) in a drinks XI, or did you know adrián's full name includes san miguel? flabianski in an overweight XI?

      Adrian
      Ivanovic - Dann - N. Taylor
      Sterling - Downing - Sigurdsson - Puncheon
      Aguero - Pellè - Costa

      79.7

Even if i have no chance of becoming the scout champion of the week let me explain my picks:

Adrian and Downing: QPR away from home means good chances for Adrian to get a cleanie and for Downing to deliver some points upfront with at least one assist or maybe one goal.

Ivanovic: Despite the recent performances, Chelsea's defence performs even better against the best teams and after a CS against Villa i have to believe that the best defense in the world is going to find stability at some point. Ivanovic has not delivered attacking points for three games now and i believe he could strike against the Gunners with at least one assist.

Scott Dann: He has delivered two assists and two clean sheets in the last four games and now that Palace has found some form i believe he could be an interesting pick at least against Hull.

N.Taylor: I didn't want to pick Williams because while Newcastle's defense is awful they can still score some goals; they scored three goals against Palace, two against Hull and who knows if they're going to score tonight(hopefully not since i have Begovic) but if they do i really wouldn't advise anyone to spend 5.1 on Williams when you can get Taylor and his attacking threats for 0.5 less.

Sterling: The only reliable Liverpool pick right now; he practically scores one game yes and one not and he hasn't scored against Everton....i think he could be firing against WBA, especially if Rodgers is going to rest him against Basel.

Sigurdsson: While i wouldn't invest too much on Swansea's defence i have to believe that Gilfy is going to deliver points against Newcastle. Their defense is the perfect target for a guy who hasn't delivered points in three games now and has to prove something to his owners to dissuade them from looking at other options in the mid-price bracket.

Puncheon: He's in good form, he has delivered one goal and two assists in the last four games, he has a 3.5% ownership and he plays against Hull who conceded six goals in the last three. Great fifth MF or good fourth MF.

Aguero: Against Hull El Kun has finally delivered more than just 6 points per game and looks like a great option against Villa's defence after The Villans conceded three goals against Arsenal and three against Chelsea. Kun has a good chance to be up for a double digit.

Pellè: He plays against Spurs, that's true, but who cares when The Saints are playing like that? They're second in the league, three points behind Chelsea, Graziano has delivered 4 goals and 1 assist in the last four and the Spurs has conceded 7 goals in the last 4. The italian can definitely deliver some points against them.

Costa: Seriously, do i need to explain this pick to you?

So, that's it folks; vote for me....or don't, but at least read this thing.

please people, I'm not doing this often, but really need some ideas now:

    Begovic, Gilks
    Clyne, Moreno, Duff, Dummett, Wisdom
    Ramsey, Fab, ADM, Sterling, Siggy
    Costa, Pelle, Ulloa

    1 FT, 2,6 ITB

Ramsey has to go I guess AND

thinking of switching to a 343 with a Front line of Costa, Pelle, Agüero and taking a ceap 4th mid, either the usual Boyd (then I've 0,8 left for elsewhere, like upgrade siggy or one of the defs for chambers) or Jedinak, which wouldn't leave me with much space to move anymore...

    so please:
    a) Ramsey, Ulloa -> Boyd, Agüero, (-4, 0,8 ITB)
    b) Ramsey, Ulloa -> Jedinak, Agüero (-4)
    c) Ramsey -> Tadic
    d) Ramsey -> ?

    x) I'd be tempted to go with Sturrige instead of Agüero that would leave me with 6m for a Ramsey replacement...
    z) Wildcard

Falcao: Has shown good performances so far, a matter of time until he scores.
