The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 8

Our Watchlist rankings, which offer player recommendations over the next four to six Gameweeks, have been updated over the last 24 hours.

Between the sticks, West Ham’s Adrian is on the up after collecting his first clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 7. The Hammers face a trip to Burnley this weekend, and with their opponents having only scored in one of their last six, the 5.0-priced Spaniard could be set for further returns come Saturday afternoon. Arsenal number one Wojciech Szczesny also climbs the rankings due to Calum Chambers’ one-match suspension and the injury doubts hanging over Laurent Koscielny in the Gunners’ defence.

With excellent fixtures ahead for Arsene Wenger’s side (HUL, sun, BUR, swa), their backline looks set to prosper in spite of current form (it’s only one shut-out so far this season for a defence that accumulated 17 clean sheets last term), and Per Mertesacker – as their most nailed-on rearguard option right now – comes into our defensive standings as a result.

Joining team-mate Adrian in rising up our rankings is Hammers centre back James Tomkins, whose attacking threat has already earned his owners two assists up to this point. Across the way at Tottenham, meanwhile, Younes Kaboul climbs to just below Tomkins thanks to his kind fixtures from Gameweek 9 onwards (NEW, avl, STK, hul).

Jeffrey Schlupp is a new entry at the back thanks to his out-of-position prospects – the Leicester man is available for just 4.5 and was utilised on the left wing in the Foxes’ last league fixture, bagging his first goal of the season in the process. Another defender prospering due to their out-of-position status is Hull’s Andrew Robertson. Like Schlupp, he is on offer for just 4.5 ,and though his next three fixtures are rather tough (ars, liv, SOU), his strong form and position on the left of midfield in the Tigers’ 3-5-2 formation brings him into contention.

There is little movement in midfield, where Raheem Sterling holds on to the top spot, with Fantasy Premier League midfield frontrunners Gylfi Sigurdsson (sto, LEI, eve, ARS, mci) and Angel Di Maria (wba, CHE, mci, CRY, ars) only failing to climb due to their tricky schedules. The likes of Jordan Henderson (6.0), Saido Mane (6.9) and James Milner (5.3) continue to bubble under as mid-price differentials and cheaper alternatives to their team-mates further up the rankings – all three have strong fixtures to boost their points potential.

Daniel Sturridge is the big addition to our rankings up front. The Liverpool striker is likely to be eased back into action after recovering from a thigh injury, but as he proved against Southampton in Gameweek 1, needs little time to introduce himself. The 11.3-priced England man has enticing fixtures against QPR, Hull and Newcastle to find his feet and could prove an outstanding differential in the coming weeks.

Danny Welbeck is the main mover in our forward standings and now sits just below the template trio of Diego Costa, Graziano Pelle and Sergio Aguero. Though he has picked up returns in one of his four appearances in an Arsenal shirt, the lack of clear options in the Gunners’ midfield right now ensures that Welbeck, at a mere 7.3, is their main attacking asset for the moment – reports indicate he’s set to return to training after shrugging off the knock picked up on England duty. Should Alexis Sanchez begin to justify his 10.3 price tag and Theo Walcott quickly readjust to life in the Premier League upon his return from injury next week, both are likely to be elevated in next week’s refresh.

      Not just yet...was considering it but have more pressing transfers. I'd wait another game personally but seeing they're up against Leicester might not be a bad punt.

    - bags Baines for weeks, now hes the flavour of the week?

                can he be brilliant? sure

                does he feel like playing up to this potential today? hard to tell, consult the magic 8 ball

                does he feel like playing up to his potential today for all 90 minutes? doubtful

                  To be fair..and joking aside....Spurs are playing the same game as Swansea. Adebayor and Bony are more like fourth mids with the midfield players regularly getting beyond them. Both have ended up with avg positions closer to the centre circle than the pen box at various times....

                  Well, imo he has been a brilliant servant to Spurs.

                  I agree with you about the mismanagement on the whole, and just feel that Adebayor has often held things together for them.

                  Lamela being in the midfield right now is not helping either them, or him.

                I am afraid that La Liga isn't much, in my opinion. FAR too many "hot" properties have come from there and completely bombed in this league.

                Did not Villas-Boas actually buy the feller?

                  i blame Levy for the purchase selections... and absurd rate of turnover for team manager... going through 2 to 3 managers per season will never create a good team no matter how good the players you buy are

                  Michu seemed to adjust okay from La Liga... i suppose blanket statement about other leagues are tough... when even the Erdevise can give us the diversity of Sanchez, Pelle, Bony and are more likely expectations in Altidore

                    No, I agree with you there. I don't really know what is the matter with the fellow. He has really disappointed me - I thought he had more character, you know? He may well end up doing Spurs an injury, the way he is going.

    Thinking about doing these transfers next week:

    Fab -> Haz
    Sterling -> Tadic
    PvA -> Tomkins

    What do we reckon?
    I think Sterling will become near essential at some stage this season again but at his age, Liverpool playing 60 odd games this season and with England duty, he won't be playing every match.

    Morning all. 🙂

    How about this front 8 from gw 11 onwards? Can get it for -4.

    ADM - Walcott - Sterling - Fabregas - Sigurdsson
    Aguero - Costa - Zamora

    Not usually a fan of 3-5-2 but I'm really liking it. I see consistent points with varied captaincy options each gw. Some explosive players in there too. Defense not bad as well.

    What do you all reckon? Should I start moving towards this?

            Mannone/Heaton - 4m
            Tomkins - Chambers - Hutton - Wisdom - Moore

            or something similar to this.

              Yeah that's way too lightweight IMO. Getting Welbeck/Pelle instead of one of those mids would allow a big hitter or two at the back, giving your side a lot more balance. 3-5-2 is too inflexible IMO, but if it's a short term tactic then I guess it's worth a try.

                I'm thinking that Tomkins and Chambers have very nice fixtures till the jan WC. So I can play them every week.

                Hutton and Wisdom rotatte perfectly home and away. So a home game every week from them. Moore is a decent fodder.

                I have my original WC as well to fall back on if it all goes tits up. 🙂

                  Up to you mate. It could work out awesomely, or it could backfire spectacularly if the third strikers continue to be great value. Depends if you want to do something different. That front 7 does look great on paper though.

    well the way I see it, the impact of Coleman towards Baines (if any), would totally benefit Baines. Coleman back in meaning more chances of Coleman getting in the box, pens all da way 😀

    Hi All

    I have the following Team.

    Im new to fantasy football so need help please!!!

    Clyne/Tomkins/Iva
    Downing/sterling/fab/siggy
    Costa/Pelle/Ulloa

    Bench is chadli/shawcross/dier.

    First question how does my team look for the next 5W in fixtures.
    Second is who do I captain this week?

    Thinking of going Downing?

    1. Screaming Midget

      Downing isn't a bad choice at all.

      Dont captain Downing. He may play in midfield again and vs a good defence. You have so many better options (Costa, Pelle, Ulloa, Sterling, Siggy, Ivanovic)

    Planning to do Sterling > Walcott in a few weeks but would you still bring in Welbeck this weekend? Not sure on doubling up on Arsenal. My front line is currently Aguero/Costa/Ulloa.

    Thoughts?

      Wait for Walcott imo.

      Doubling up may not be very wise. And Walcott is far better Arsenal cover than Welbeck.

        This is what I am thinking. I want rid of Ulloa as I have 2FT, who would you bring in? Have up to 7.6 to spend

          Is Pelle the obvious choice? If so, I'd have to re-think my keeper transfer to spare the .3

      Liverpool has some decent fixtures...if You are removing Sterling...who are you getting in as Liverpool cover...I think you need one of Sterling/Sturridge in your team..Welbeck is a nice cheap Arsenal cover...watch Wally's performance first before getting him in..

      1. The Iron Tulip
        • 9 Years

        I will have none when losing Sterling but at the moment, I don't feel like I need any Liverpool cover as they are poor, especially now they have to balance the team being in CL.

    My team atm, I am considering the better use of FTs given that Arsenal will have to use Cazorla and Sanchez and Sterling's fatigue has become an issue. Which is better?

    Heaton, Mannone
    Baines, Clyne, N.Taylor, Moore, Wisdom
    ADM, Sterling, Tadic, Downing, Boyd
    Aguero, Welbeck, Costa

    2 FTs 0 in Bank

    (In each case, i am considering Milner, Kranjcar, Arfield, Routledge instead of Henderson)
    A) Sterling + Downing -> Cazorla + Henderson
    B) Sterling + Tadic -> Sanchez + Henderson
    C) Sterling + Costa -> Cazorla + Sturridge/Falcao
    D) Sterling + Costa + Downing -> Sanchez + Lukaku + Henderson for -4
    E) Downing + Costa + Tadic -> Berahino + Cazorla + Hazard for -4

    or anything else. Thanks.

          So does Welbeck and Siggy. What swings it their favour is that they're far more explosive than Downing.

          Well...

          Welbeck - focal point of a top 4 attack, great fixture. You have to play him.
          Siggy - great form (scored a brace against Holland too), Stoke often fail to impress at home. If Swansea score he's likely to be involved.

    Anyone reckon that Walcott would start gw 10 vs Burnley at home?

    Looks like the ideal game to give him a start I think. 2 sub appearances in gw 8 and 9 and then a start at home vs an easy opposition.
