Scout Scribbles – City Held as Blues March On

Eden Hazard is instrumental in helping Chelsea put six past Maribor. Sergio Aguero grabs a goal and assist as Man City are pegged back by CSKA in Moscow, Hull pair Michael Dawson and Nikica Jelavic are out for up to six weeks, while Newcastle’s Siem de Jong may not return to action until the New Year.

Hazard Shines As Slovenians Are Hit for Six

Chelsea made it six wins on the spin by routing Slovenian champions Maribor at the Bridge. First-half strikes from Loic Remy, Didier Drogba and John Terry set the Blues on their way before they killed the match with three further goals after the break, as Eden Hazard went about dismantling their opponents. The Belgian capped another hugely influential performance by first forcing an own goal before converting Chelsea’s second penalty and then scoring a superb sixth in the dying minutes.

Jose Mourinho’s line-up saw Petr Cech restored in goal, while his defence saw two changes, with Kurt Zouma and Filipe Luis in for Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Loic Remy’s first-half goal came at a cost with the striker forced off on 30 minutes having tweaked his groin, leading to the introduction of Didier Drogba. Jose Mourinho confirmed the injury post-match, whilst suggesting that Drogba will have a part to play at Old Trafford on Sunday with both Remy and Costa now injury doubts.

“Loic Remy has a problem in his groin, I don’t know. Normally a muscular problem is a muscular problem so a couple of weeks. I was not expecting Didier to play for 75 minutes but he had to come on….Now he has to improve his condition, we know the player he is and we know he can still give us a lot.”

The Scout Says: Another sparkling Hazard display has to resonate with the Fantasy Football community. Overshadowed by the consistent output of Cesc Fabregas to this point, the Belgian has offered plenty of evidence in recent matches to suggest that he is now capable of delivering and surpassing his Spanish team-mate. With Mourinho once again stating that Diego Costa will likely be ruled out of Sunday’s clash with Manchester United, Hazard has emerged as a potential replacement as Chelsea attacking cover for those willing to sell on the nine-goal striker in advance of Saturday’s deadline. Hazard has dropped to 9.9 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) having suffered a loss in ownership every week up until Gameweek 8. He’s currently owned by 14% of FPL managers, while Fabregas is found in over 52% of squads – last night, he could have claimed a hat-trick but offered the first Chelsea penalty to Didier Drogba. The Ivorian converted to notch ahead of Sunday’s Old Trafford trip which could now see him lead the line; Drogba is available for 6.2 and may tempt some as a short-term differential, should we get confirmed news on Remy and Costa’s prognosis.

City Face Exit After Moscow Stalemate

Manuel Pellegrini’s bid for Champions League glory looks to have deviated off course with City letting a two-goal lead slip in the behind-closed-doors clash in Moscow.

City made five changes to the side that blitzed Spurs on Saturday – Pablo Zabaleta, Eliaquim Mangala and Kolarov came into the defence, while Yaya Toure returned to the engine room and Edin Dzeko partnered Aguero in attack.

It had all started so brightly for City who took a first-half advantage through goals from Sergio Aguero and James Milner. However, two strikes in the second period, including an 88th-minute penalty conceded by Aleks Kolarov, saw City drop further points in their quest to qualify form Group E.

City now need results over their final three group matches, starting with the home clash with CSKA on November 5, three days after the Manchester derby. The next tie on November 25 – the home fixture with Bayern – looks vital and daunting after the German side’s 7-1 win over Roma.

The Scout Says: Sergio Aguero’s goal and assist in Moscow provided further evidence of his confidence and form but that will provide little compensation for another bitterly disappointing result in Europe. Once again it was Pellegrini’s defence that let him down – City have now kept just two clean sheets in their last 11 outings. Fantasy managers are unlikely to change their attitude on City’s rearguard, then, with Aguero continuing to be the leading attraction on show within their ranks – the Argentine has now completed three consecutive 90-minute matches, offering reassurance on his current level of fitness. Elsewhere, Milner’s goal provided some reward for a series of performances which have seen him develop as an unlikely attacking threat, while Dzeko’s assist served a reminder that he can offer a “plan B” for Pellegrini, should he decide to revert from the recent decision to field Aguero as the lone striker.

Tigers Suffer Double Blow

Hull City have confirmed that both Nikica Jelavic and Michael Dawson face prolonged spells on the sidelines following injuries sustained in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal. Jelavic dropped from the teamsheet having tweaked his knee in the warm-up for the Emirates clash – scans reveal he’s torn his medial meniscus and he’s now booked in for surgery on Wednesday. Dawson has sustained a ruptured lateral ankle ligament, having been forced off in Saturday’s clash and, like Jelavic, he’ll face four to six weeks on the sidelines. Steve Harper’s torn bicep, which saw him withdrawn in the first half at Arsenal, will be assessed again later this week.

The Scout Says: These setbacks will come as bitter blows for Steve Bruce ahead of a testing run of fixtures, although the Tigers boss can at least console himself with the fact that he has an “Abel” replacement up front in the form of the Uruguayan, Hernandez. He was initially dropped to the bench for Saturday’s Emirates trip but he would now seem assured of a starting role over the next month. Robbed of the four-goal Jelavic, Bruce could now retain the 3-5-1-1 approach which saw Hatem Ben Arfa earn his first league start at Arsenal. He and Gaston Ramirez may now earn further starts in support of Hernandez, with Tom Ince, Sone Aluko and Robbie Brady offering other options. At the back, Dawson’s absence could prove a bigger issue. Having recently restored his three-centre-back system, Bruce could now turn to his son Alex to slot into his defence. A popular pre-season pick, Bruce has since dropped to just 3.9 and would represent a rock-bottom-priced short-term option, although Hull’s forthcoming run of fixtures look tough (liv SOT bur TOT mun).

Magpies Denied De Jong Tonic

Newcastle will be without Dutch playmaker, Siem de Jong, for another two months after he took to Facebook to offer the latest on his knee injury…

“Just saw the surgeon in London and all looks good. Still a couple of months to go but I’m sure I will get back stronger”

De Jong has played in the league just twice for Newcastle in a bitterly frustrating start to his stint on Tyneside. He had impressed for the Magpies upon his arrival in the summer and was tipped to be deployed in the “number 10” role, having scored 47 times and provided 27 assists in 118 league games over his last four seasons for Ajax in the Eredivisie.

The Scout Says: While Alan Pardew seems to have established a foothold at St James Park, the news from De Jong’s camp will be a major disappointment, given the promise shown by the Dutchman in pre-season. He looked every inch a Fantasy prospect and was keenly priced at 7.0 in the FPL. It now seems likely to be the New Year before we get to assess his potential as a differential, though having suffered a string of injuries in his final season in Holland, it’s clear that De Jong is a player that is prone to setbacks and spells on the sidelines.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For Spurs fans, or people who has watched them extensively, is Chadli still a good prospect?

Probably going to bring him in this week for Downing, after their europa league game on friday.

Spurs fan here and I'm not 100% sure.

He won't keep scoring as he has done so far (I don't particularly rate him that highly either) but at that price and with those fixtures coming up, I would go for it. He will definitely play (lack of other options in the formation Poch wants to play)

Might get him in myself when Siggy's fixtures turn in a few GWs.

Ok, thanks. From what I've seen of Spurs, he does seem to play fairly highly up the pitch and get into decent attacking positions, its just what he is able to do in these positions that worry's me.

He started three in a week the last time they played 3 games in a week. He came off with 20 left against Hull and 6 left against Villa. So that statement has absolutely no foundation.

Yeah and he's one of those who's painful to watch without him.

I'm probably just going to downgrade Ulloa, but this means I'll have double Burnley attack. It's not ideal, but looks like the only option this week (only one of them will be playing).

Markovic in is interesting, as he's been terrible so far in his Liverpool career. Pace but no end product, very wasteful.
I'd have had Allen in there to pack the midfield certainly. And Coutinho must be a bit miffed to miss out, but maybe Brendan thinks he can perform another supersub role

So far this season I have had two pen misses. While ive always tried to get as many pen takers in my team as possible (only 4 right now) does anyone avoid a pen taker due to the risk associated? I would never get a player solely for pens (Arteta / Noble) but I think it is a big factor when im choosing my FPL team and making transfers.

Probably why I was so angered by Yaya T last year.

What four pen takers do you have?

I only have Aguero and Baines in mine.

I'm guessing you have Hazard, Tadic, Aguero and Baines?

To answer your question - no, but there is definitely a risk involved. That said, I was extremely frustrated that the week I brought Baines in he missed his first EPL penalty, but can't complain about his returns this week 😛

I brought Gerrard in last season just befre he got 2 against United but should have had three and also in hindsight Aguero was always going to run riot against Kaboul.

Even though I own Cesc, Hazard will probably outscore him with his penalties. Always best to get a penalty taker in is my view

Barkley is still unproven, even last season he was hit or miss in games and if I remember he went a few games at a time without doing much points wise. That was ok at last seasons price, but until he shows consistency I think he is too expensive for his returns

Short answer - probably. Unless you've done a special secure wipe, the files themselves probably aren't deleted, just removed from the table of contents of the drive.

You can get programs to scan the drive and rebuild the table of contents so that you can get at the files again.

    3. RabMac

It depends on the files types you want to recover. Both Recuva and PhotoRec are great free programs that should do the trick though.

I suggest not saving anything to the external drive until after you finish the recovery.

What to remember is that when you delete a file it is not actually deleted, it is only the address path that gets deleted, so as long as you don't write to the disk there is a good chance of recovering your data.

fantastic, thanks for your help guys.

Downloaded Recuva and it's found them all. Phew! Just installed an SSD drive, and cut the stuff i'd backed up, but then f*** up somehow and had to do another format, forgetting that i'd cut rather than copied.

      Computer noob here.

yeah pretty lucky as it had a lot of my phd files on it.
Wouldn't have been the end of the world, but would have set me back a few days and would have lost some old videos from when I was young and in my prime 😛

Hope the recovery doesnt corrupt them somehow, but we'll see when its finished recovering 🙂

        Flexible 😛

        Considering Costa + Chester/Moore -> Berahino/Sakho + Coleman...

That would give me a front line of Naismith, Kun and one of the two cheap guys, so my formation would change depending on fixtures. Probably 451 most weeks but I could always rest a mid or a southampton defender..

I feel it's a given that heavy-hitting forwards and mids score more fpl points than heavy-hitting defenders. It's fine to go with a premium defence, but I still think it's not a good strategy.

There aren't many performing top strikers at the moment though, with the cheaper boys outscoring most of them comfortably.. Only 2 of the top 14 strikers this year are priced over 10m and Costa is "injured", so there's only one performing 10+ striker and that's Kun..

Is this the year of a cheaper strikeforce with Sturridge, Rooney, Falcao, RVP and Balotelli all seeming like bad choices at the moment.

        Heaton
        Baines - Coleman - Bertrand - Clyne
        Cesc - Sterling - Tadic - Siggy - Chadli
        Aguero

        (Berahino - Naismith - Moore)

It's not the year of a cheaper strikeforce. I reckon it's just a moment, and it'll change. FPL is a game of offensive points imo. Playing 4-5-1 is unthinkable for me.

Cool, cheers for the feedback man 🙂

I tend to agree that 451 seems very strange, but if it's temporary, with the amount of performing cheap attackers at the moment, I'm considering it..

We shall see, I'll probably just end up keeping Costa, I'm just checking out what I can do with the Berahino cash 😛

Dont have a problem with it, could work. Will say that it might give you a headache in 4 weeks time when Sot fixtures stiffen. Also im not sure i like Naismith as part of the frontline. Would rather have both Berahino and Sakho.

Yep that's the main problem with it, what to do when Saints' fixtures turn for the worse, I'll be looking into selling one at least of the two Saints defenders by then.

Yep, I would much rather have Bera and Sakho instead of Naismith, but Steven is cheaper and he's been in my team since the start so I've just kind of accepted he's there until my wildcard (as my cheap bench player) as I have 5 strong mids.

Hey people, I'm geading my ML by a very small margin atm but don't have Aguero. Noone within 30 points of me has him yet, while most of them have di Maria. So I need advice on the following transfers..

Welbeck + Di Maria -> Chadli + Aguero - for free.

I know its risky to ditch di Maria, but is it worth being the only owner of Sergio near the top of my ML? Also is the Chadli hype still alive??

Ditching Costa is risky too! Its not too bad saving a transfer and missing out on points. But transferring a player out and seeing them get points whilst the player you transferred in doesn't is painful

    Di Maria or hazard?

Hazard has the advantage of pens and not a lot of other players to share attacking points/ goals with.
Di Maria however plays for a team that needs to score a lot of goals to win games and should pick up a lot of assists with united front 3, he also takes corners and free kicks which hazard rarely does.

    1. Punty
      • 10 Years

Hazard the next 4 gameweeks at least.. also not sure if that front 3 of United helps DiMarias case in comparison to Hazards teammates? Van Persie have been pretty bad.. and Falcao hasn't impressed yet either.. Rooney is good though

      1. Ady87
        • 10 Years

Rooney will be raring to go and Falcao has looked good when on. His points per minute is quite good already he just isn't getting a run of games.

RVP though, doesn't look great at all.

        1. Punty
          • 10 Years

Yeah Falcao is good, but still he has always been a 0.5 non-penalty goal per 90minute-player, not that great when he almost never gets assists and don't take penalties for United

            • 10 Years

The assist thing is true but he has 2 already in sub appearances for United. This team is set up differently to Atletico and Monaco so think that could change. That said I wouldn't bring him, but don't think it affects ADM too much.

Upgraded Cattermole to Chadli and ADM to Sanchez with a view to keeping Costa.......anyone else holding tight?

    My rationale was that:

    1. Costa could easily be pushed into playing against Man Utd now that Remy is crook
    2. If Costa plays he scores.....
    3. With Chadli as my first sub I have an attacking midfielder with a plum fixture coming on in any case who could easily outscore any potential striker replacements
