Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 9

Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Arsenal
The Gunners’ problems in defence continued at the weekend after Kieran Gibbs was withdrawn through injury in the 2-0 win at Sunderland. Mikel Arteta also picked up a problem against the Black Cats, as Arsene Wenger revealed:

“I think Kieran Gibbs has a hip problem. He wanted to go on but he couldn’t. Mikel Arteta got a kick on his thigh but I don’t think it’s bad.”

Crystal Palace
The Eagles’ stopper Julian Speroni was forced to leave the field after sustaining a head knock in a collision with West Brom’s Craig Dawson on Saturday. After the match, Neil Warnock was far from happy with the challenge:

“It’s almost an assault, how one of the four officials can’t be in a position to see that. Dawson had smashed him in the face and I am lost for words. He’s had a two- or three-yard run up and smashed him in the face. No wonder Julian is a bit groggy. He wanted to carry on.”

Leicester
The Foxes back-up keeper Ben Hamer was absent from the trip to Swansea after dislocating a finger in training on Friday, with Nigel Pearson confirming he’ll be out for “three-to-four weeks”.

Man United
Radamel Falcao and Phil Jones missed yesterday’s home clash with Chelsea. The Colombian isn’t expected to be out for long, though Louis van Gaal was a little more cautious on Jones’ prospects:

“Falcao took a kick in training on Thursday and couldn’t play because of that. We’ll have to wait and see, but I don’t think the injury is too bad, today’s match came too soon for him. Jones has shin splints, so we’ll have to wait and see because it’s not too easy to recover from.”

Ashley Young also missed out after sustaining a knock in training.

Stoke
Charlie Adam was forced off just eight minutes into the second-half of the weekend loss at Southampton with a calf problem.

Sunderland
Gus Poyet is sweating over the fitness of Steven Fletcher after the forward was forced off with a knock against Arsenal, the club’s official match report has confirmed.

Swansea
Gylfi Sigurdsson was subbed off before the hour mark of the weekend win over Leicester with a groin problem:

“I felt my groin before the game, so that’s why I was coming off. We showed character to bounce back from the loss at Stoke.”

After the match, however, Garry Monk confirmed the midfielder’s withdrawal was purely precautionary:

“There’s just a little bit of tightness but he’s fine – there’s no problem there. Obviously with the games coming up we felt instead of risking it going on any longer we take him off and let him have the rest.”

West Ham
Sam Allardyce is sweating over the fitness of Diafra Sakho after the striker was forced off towards the end of Saturday’s 2-1 home win over champions City. Post-match, the Hammers boss went on to say:

“My biggest problem is that my leading goalscorer came off towards the end today with a shoulder problem. I sincerely hope that [the] damage is not severe and he can recover very quickly. Anyone who’s scored six in six – you can ill-afford to lose him. If we lose him it’s going to be a big blow.”

Subsequent reports suggest the striker has not suffered a break but is set to see a specialist over the next 48 hours to ascertain the extent of the damage.

Costa? If he was in contention Sunday, another whole week to recover, he should be raring to go vs QPR

If he was really in contention to start he'd have been on the bench. Jose us full of it.

Are people flocking to get Sanchez in?

I actually think he's a must against Burnley, and I'll be getting him in some way or the other and giving him the (c).

Either Costa and Tadic to Berahino and Sanchez for me, or Sterling and Tadic to Sanchez and Downing.

Hes too hard to bring in for me. Means kicking out decent fantasy options, and downgrading an already threadbare defence.
Also rules out a quick switch back to Costa

Is it worth ripping a team apart simply to bring in a player who was gifted two goals against sunderland, just because he has an easy fixture

I would also be wary of rotation, given the anderlecht game a few days later

This is my opinion too. Don't want to block a move for Costa in afew weeks, and I think sterling is a season keeper (or as close to one as you can get)

Agree with this. Not that concerned about rotation cause I think the gunners fans will have Wengers head if he rests him but not worth taking a hit for right now. The way in which he was gifted those goals was hilarious. He's great of course but of only get him if it was for free and I don't wanna drop ADM

i would prefer sterling tadic ->sanchez downing.

i do feel sanchez is a long term option...preseason everyone is talking him up and how he would be the top fpl mid..and he still present a strong case to be at least the top 3..

well he asks for a choice and he clearly wants sanchez so i would prefer the latter option. of cos its not a bad idea to keep tadic n sterling n forget about sanchez..but who knows maybe sanchez will perform a tadic the very game against burnley?

i enjoyed the tadic explosion..but not sure he is long term option

sterling..hmm maybe if u have the money..but he might be the one to be out if u choose from fab sanchez sterling

put it this way..if u have to choose 3 between sanchez sterling fab haz ADM will u still choose sterling?

50% of our first team defenders are injured, not too hard when you only have 6 to start with. Just thankfully we have Burnley at home, still think there is a good chance of conceding though. Arteta being out may be a blessing, Wenger might play someone who can actually run for once.

well people with the help of FFS this season I have managed to get myself to 145th with 565 pts. thats with Costa the last two weeks lol and no Kun

    Current team is

    De Gea - McCartney Clyne - Chambers - Baines - Wilson - Moore Sterling - AMD - Siggy - Fab - Boyd Pelle - Costa - Welbs

Have 2 FTs and 1.5m in bank.

Suggestions welcome for this week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously Sanchez in will be a big theme as will Costa will he/wont he , Mane ? Kun etc Chelsea and Arsenal have the fixtures but would Mourinho maybe consider resting Costa another week and Fabregas even ?? Could be a week for Haz to shine ????

i am tempted to bring in Sanchez for Sterling ( tho i do like Sterling ) , Downgrade De gea to free up some cash and maybe even turn Boyd into Downing so I have Siggy/Downing as 4th/5th mids......................

United have a brand new manager, have to shake off the stink of last season and have added 4-5 new players (most late in the window) directly to their starting lineup, most who have never played in England before. This isn't FIFA, you can't just plug and play, chemistry doesn't happen overnight..and yes everyone has injuries, but all of United's injuries have been to their backline. you can't build chemistry and momentum when every match features a different back 4. People focus far too much on the fixture list, when there is so much more at play.

Chelsea's defensive resolve isn't solely down to the quality of players they have, but also down to the fact that more or less they've had the same back 4 every single game of the season thus far.

Consistency isn't built by constantly shuffling personnel, if we can get the same back 4 for a string of matches I have no doubt in United's ability to finish top 4.

and a point for a transitioning team against the best team in England? You're right..awful...

the saving grace is arsenal spurs pool everton(tough fix though) are all struggling this season to some extent...if they are actually on form utd would not be so little behind.

that starting line up is great btw..see no reason why utd cannot get top 4 especially they have no midweek match to play at all. In fact for them below top 4 is a failure.

maybe see how many points they can get against city and arsenal...but to me the chelsea match is very lucky to get 1 point

I know the logical thing to do if you have held Costa up to now is to keep him for QPR...

...but this just happens to be the week that Sanchez announced himself as the hottest midfield property ahead of a favourable home game... and also the week where budget mids Siggy and Chadli lost a bit of stock... and Berahino proved to be a consistent option...

very tempting to make that switch considering I have 2 FTs to burn.

Personally not been drawn in to Sanchez in the hope that he potentially could score big. It may block moves in a few weeks and Sterling could potentially match him. I know Sterling and Liverpool are off form but they /he is still dangerous. I have Hazard already
Keep FT or use it to sort defence for a long term option instead of PVA

sterling is in a team that is not in form. granted mnu also is not, but adm is better player than sterling.

Fabregas 11 shots, 2 inside the box, 27 chances created, 1 goal, 8 assists, 55 FPL points, 9.7 price

Siggy: 8 shots, 4 inside the box, 22 chances created, 1 goal, 7 assists, 52 FPL points, 6.8 price.

Pretty darn similar from the two, except Siggy is 2.9 million cheaper. Can both continue to top the midfield standings without much goal threat?

Siggy's speciality is his long shots. A few of them will go in by the end of the season.

They both have a phenomenal assist rate, and while Siggy's will fluctuate depending on fixtures, Fab could maintain it

Yeah, I agree with that, but I'm not sure it's worth the premium. But then I might be the only one who was considering paying the current price for Cesc; those that have had him from the start should probably keep.

Yeah, I was looking at Siggy to Cesc, but it really doesn't seem worth it to me. I have no doubt Cesc will be more consistent because he has Costa/Terry/Cahill/Ivanovic to aim at on set pieces, and Chelsea will likely have more of the ball/more chances in general, but I'm not sure it makes him worth an extra 3 million.

Hmm, just playing around with options this week, i'll probably be a boring transfer, but have a few possibilities. Currently have Fab and no Arsenal coverage.

    A) Pelle to Costa
