Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 10 – The Weak

Having identified those teams with some kind schedules in the coming Gameweeks, it’s time to turn to the other end of the spectrum. We point the finger at those teams who will need to defy the fixture computer to prevail over the next month or so.

Swansea

“frisking

While Gylfi Sigurdsson’s injury scare may have been evaporated by Garry Monk’s reassuring words, the Icelander’s owners will still be weighing up an exit plan. Swansea’s schedule hands the playmaker a run of opponents over the next three that may well limit his influence and output.

Saturday’s trip to Goodison is followed by a home clash with Arsenal, capped by a daunting trip to face champions Man City at the Etihad. Certainly, Monk’s side look very ulikely to add to their clean sheet tally in this spell, while Sigurdsson and striker Wilfried Bony will have to show up as “fixture proof”.

On the plus side, none of that illustrious trio boast watertight defences in the current climate, with the City away tie perhaps the only write-off in terms of attacking returns. In addition, the Swans come out of that into a blue sky period, with back-to-back home encounters against Palace and QPR.

Sunderland

“frisking

Gus Poyet’s side are handing goals to opponents right now and the fixture list is not about to grant the Uruguayan any favours in his bid to salve recent wounds.

Trips to Palace and Leicester in the next three will provide stern tests of their confidence and few will back them to come out of those encounters unscathed. A home clash with free-scoring Everton is the gristled meat in that sandwich.

Then things get worse as the Black Cats face back-to-back meetings with Chelsea and City at the Stadium of Light, followed by a trip to Anfield.

Sunderland will need to up their goal output considerably to rescue points from this half dozen, but few Fantasy managers are likely to take a punt on that falling into place. It seems much more likely that we’ll see Poyet’s defence denied a further clean sheet until possibly the home clash with Hull on Boxing Day. If I was Vito Manonne, I’d be asking to be dropped.

Stoke

“frisking

Like Sunderland, the Potters are another side who, in the early season, provided us with mid-to-low price options in defence that tempted investment. Ryan Shawcross is still found in 14% of Fantasy Premier League lineups – despite returning just two shut-outs so far this campaign. A forthcoming run of evil away trips is unlikely to change that record.

Saturday’s home meeting with high-flying West Ham looks vital given that, following on from this, Mark Hughes takes his team to White Hart Lane, Anfield and Old Trafford in three of the subsequent four. With clashes with Arsenal and Chelsea also looming, this looks set to be a winter of discontent for the Britannia boys.

Plan your Shawcross and Asmir Begovic escape routes and expect to see Stoke listed in this section for the foreseeable.

Also be wary of…

Man United
Louis van Gaal’s team navigated past the Chelsea clash and even presented reason to be more optimistic about their top-four credentials and Fantasy potential. However, they will need to make more of their forthcoming Old Trafford matches if they are to deliver on that promise. United still face three daunting away trips over the next six with City, Arsenal and Southampton the next to welcome the Dutch maestro and his ever-improving charges. The flip side is that those matches may just draw the sting from Angel Di Maria and company, while home encounters with Palace, Hull and Stoke certainly look bountiful. As always, don’t count on the back four and also consider how United’s big names will react on the big stage provided by those away trips.

Southampton
Rosier than Ronald Koeman’s cheeks, the situation at Southampton surely warrants Fantasy managers to dive in with both feet. Well, yes and no.

While the Saints are excelling at both ends of the field, there are some firm tests on their radar. A St Mary’s meeting with City will act as a major barometer of their progress and that’s followed by encounters with Arsenal, United and Everton. Some spoiled sheets look on the cards, while Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic will have to step up to trouble some of the more savvy defences. They’re not taking anyone by surprise from now on.

Crystal Palace
Pegged back at the Hawthorns, Neil Warnock may look wistfully back on those points lost in a few weeks’ time as the Eagles glide through stormier skies. This weekend’s visit of Sunderland appears to be a must-win given that a home encounter with Liverpool and trips to Old Trafford and The Liberty loom thereafter. Away trips to Spurs and City are also on the horizon, making Palace’s Selhurst Park clashes with Villa and Stoke in December all the more vital.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Depending on his performance tonight, Is Kane worth a gamble at 4.8m
Spurs lost last time out, he's due a premier league start

Will costa play the weekend or do you think he won't rush him back for QPR

Anyone else shocked by Rio's ban?

I don't particularly like him, but to get a three game ban is ridiculous in my opinion, fine would have sufficed.

Plucked from a hat are the length of these suspensions.
It's all to do with money really - news defaming Terry, Suarez, Balotelli, Barton, Rooney etc will sell papers. The Aguero ''stamp'' of last week would have landed any of the above players with a suspension.

    Forster (Myhill)
    Terry Baines Chambers (Clyne, Hutton)
    Siggy Tadic Fabregas Sterling (Marney)
    Costa Aguero Naisy

Got 2 free transfers and .2 itb.

Quite happy with the starting team but could do with using the subs for some forward planning (or upgrading my bench a bit.)

Thinking I might downgrade Terry after this week and change Sterling for ADM or Sanchez but also don't really want to keep Naismith long term. Thoughts?

They have no other comps...plenty rested...can afford to gain in-game chemistry and try new tactics perhaps. Wouldn't understand it any other way. If they had EL or something it would make no sense, but as it is, surely they can withstand two games in a week once and a while.

Im actually going to throw my two pence in here. I'm currently living in Colombia and have travelled South America numerous times and in all honesty the term "Negrito" is wide used and mainly in an affectionate term. I have told people here about the case with him and genuinely they are confused why he would be punished.

If he is backtracking etc then maybe he said something different, I'm just going on the basis of the specific term I heard. Its very different in the UK as the moment you bring in someones colour its dangerous, but here its no different to calling someone "Ginge" or "Fatty" (not to say either of these are acceptable either)

How would you guys split % between these 3 categories to determine success in fpl?

    a) Football knowledge (i.e. teams, players, form, fixtures, injuries, set piece takers etc)

    b) FPL knowledge (rules, stats, prices etc)

    c) Luck

    I'm gonna go with:

Just rested to give Long a run out I guess.

As a Saint's fan actually slightly dissapointed not fielding our absoloutely best team. As has been mentioned we won't realistically win the league, although getting excited that could be challenging for CL, even if writing it makes me realise how absurd that would be.

All our signings have worked out, but Long for 12m? Not that he's done badly; he's played like Shane Long. Decent squad player and will always hassle and run, but way overpriced.

First I'd heard of it. Maybe, if so Long can do a decent job as backup. I don't check every source, but no news of anything seriously up with Mane in local paper, or radio.

To me the team just looks like a strong cup team, but using a few squad players who will feature during the season, but not as regular starters when others are fit.

My current squad for GW10, need last minute improvements? Got 2FT and £4.8m spare.
    De Gea (Mannone)
Bertrand - Ivanovic - Clyne - (Wisdom, Cameron)
Di Maria - Siggurdson - Sterling - Sadio Mane (Albrighton)
    Costa - Welbeck - Naismith

Also who should my captain be for GW10? Many thanks in advance.

Can't get Pelle unless I get rid of Mane, Bertrand or Clyne

I have 2 FTs and 0.4 ITB. Thinking of going with

Terry and Sterling to Chambers and Sanchez

Any other suggestions or is this a solid move.

    Krul/Elliot
    Terry, Baines, Clyne
    Chadli, Sigurdsson, Sterling, Fábregas
    Agüero, Diego Costa, Pellè
    (Boyd, Hutton, Duff)

They seem reasonable transfers though it wouldn't be surprising if the first pair scored equally well.

        Cheers Beavis

To be honest, I would be happy not doing the move but I have 2Fts and I can't find a useful use of 1FT so thought I would go with this. The other option was Costa and Chadli to Welbeck and Hazard but the improving Costa news put pay to that.

PS. Osman has averaged 100 FPL points a year, over 7 years.

Not very many mids of whatever standard can boast that.

    Thoughts on

Clyne & Sterling -> Saylor & Sanchez (for free)

I know Saylor is probably a short term option, but since he started they have won 2 from 2 and Pardew is renowned for sticking with a winning formula.

Also, with the rest of my defence being Baines, Chambers, Wisdom & Hutton, I think I can survive with starting Baines every week, Chambers most weeks and then rotating the other 3 for 1 spot.

I believe Dowd is simply inept.

Clattenburg is just a massive ego who wants to be the centre of attention at all times, so just makes countless bad decisions to rile everybody up

At least Dowd doesn't shirk his responsibilities to go to a concert. Clattenberg should just be fired, not demoted.

Yes. This is the sort of behaviour I'm talking about from Clattenburg.

Absolutely full of himself. Thinks he's 'too big' to travel to the game with the other officials.

        What a moron.

He definitely has it in him.

Main concern is that LIV look average going forwards without Sturridge imo, especially away from home.

2 away games and a home tie with CHE not the best fixtures for the next 3, whereas Ramsey/Sanchez have BUR, swa, MUN, which should be decent from an attacking sense.
