Captain Sensible – Gameweek 10

Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Under normal circumstances, Diego Costa would be the runaway leader in this week’s Captain Poll but, as we know, things are not quite straightforward when it comes to Jose Mourinho. Nonetheless, having returned to training yesterday, faith in the Chelsea striker is building and he leads the way ahead of a plum home clash with a QPR defence that have shipped at least two goals in all four of their road trips. After scoring in each of his four home appearances, Costa leads the way with 29% of the votes cast so far.

Elsewhere for Chelsea, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have earned 9% and 6% of the votes cast. The latter has been the most consistent, with a goal or assist in seven of his nine appearances, though Hazard delivered a double-figure haul in his previous match at the Bridge and has spot-kick duties to fall back on.

Alexis Sanchez sits in second as Arsenal prepare for the visit of Burnley. Subject to huge investment this week after taking his tally to five goals in his last six appearances with a brace against Sunderland, the Chilean has been backed by 20% heading into the weekend. Over 5% have opted for Danny Welbeck, though his form is a little disconcerting – he’s picked up points in only two of his six appearances since arriving in north London.

In third spot, Sergio Aguero remains firmly in our thoughts in spite of a surprise blank against West Ham. Up against a United defence that have picked up just three points on their travels, the Argentine has persuaded over 14% to hand him the armband – although his four-goal haul against Spurs is fresh in the memory, Aguero has stuttered at the Etihad and has scored in only two of his four home matches.

Further down, the likes of Graziano Pelle and Raheem Sterling are still in contention ahead of trips to Hull and Newcastle. Pelle has picked up points in six of his previous seven now and stands atop the Fantasy Premier League standings on 59 points, though the Tigers have tightened up since reverting to a three-man backline and have kept out their opponents in two of their last three. Sterling, with just two assists in the previous four, will be optimistic of returning to form against a Magpies backline with a single shut-out in seven.

Finally got around to selling Sterling, even though I think it is very risky. T

So no Costa, no Fab and no Sterling. If all three fire, could be curtains for my rank.

But I think Aguero, Hazard and Sanchez are more than able replacements 😉

Seriously nice rank, RD, - nice work! I'm selling Sterling too, and Moreno - I've had enough of Liverpool for the time being. I think if Costa scores big then non owners like us will get seriously burned, but for some reason I'm less worried about Sanchez .... they have a great fixture this week, but are their other mid term fixtures all that great? I think not.

        Cheers Old Man, appreciate it.

Agreed on Costa. Partly agree on Sanchez, that's why it took me so long before I pushed the button. Finally went through with it, more because I was sick to death of thinking about it! Now I can relax and enjoy a glass of whisky in peace and look forward to the weekend.

    Hi lads,

    Here's my current team:

    De Gea-Gilks
    Baines-Coloccini-Wisdom-Hutton-Duff
    ADM-Eriksen-Tadic-Sterling-Boyd
    Aguero-Lukaku-Welbeck

Tempted with De Gea- Courtois or ADM- Hazard as no Chelsea coverage is worrying... also tempted to WC and just start from scratch as has been a horrible start for myself.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks.

also not sure if he was being serious, but I don't think that needs a WC. It's not an optimal team, but each key player on any given week could do well. No WC needed.

I like your transfters to get Hazaard & Pelle in... go for it.

Hi guys. Just a simple question to assure myselff, 2FT Taylor to Chambers and Milner to Tadic (not enough cash for sb else). Yay or nay? No Pelle atm so I could also do Welbeck to Pelle but that doesn't seem to be that straightforward uprgade. Thanks a lot!

Baines, Clyne, Wisdom / Chester, Caulker

Team at the moment for GW10 (BANK = £3.9m, 0 FT):

    Begovic
    Moore Clyne Baines
    Di Maria Sanchez Mane Sigurdsson
    Pelle Aguero Berahino

    Subs - McCarthy, N.Taylor, C.Dawson, Boyd

Bit worried about the lack of Chelsea players! Assuming both incoming players start which of these do you prefer for a 4 point hit (if any!)?

Given the doubts over Costa, is it more sensible to just captain Cesc anyway ? For even if Costa does play, it is almost certain it will not be for 90 mins....

...however, if he does play, he will only need about 60 mins to score a hat-trick against awful QPR 🙂

    Thoughts ?

I have both too...but I would say Costa at home to QPR is nailed-on points...whereas with Welbeck it is a MAYBE will do well...he could easily score 3 against Burnley, but if Arsenal fail to show up and all that...

...whereas if costa does play, he will get chance after chance after chance....gauranteed.

But I agree...would rather we know now if he is injured and just bench him of so ! 🙂

    Howard
    Jagielka Chambers Bertrand
    Fábregas Sigurdsson Sterling Tadic
    Costa Agüero Pellè

    Green Boyd Chester Hutton

    1FT 0.7m in the bank

Currently thinking save FT. Would be nice to have Sanchez or Hazard but can't see how it can be worth it for a hit and don't desperately need to remove anyone.

All thoughts/option appreciated (still have my wildcard) 😉 )

It seems most people are taking hits but I don't think they are. Nobody in my league is.

    😆 anyone watching watchdog?

Man united fan moaning about getting Now tv and having his feed turned off halfway through Ryan Giggs first game in charge. Watchdog calling it the "most important game of united's season" 😆

Anne Robinson on Watchdog - "so how would you feel if you lost your Sky signal while watching Bryan Giggs' first game in charge of Man United?" Brilliant!
