The ScoutCast – Episode 145 – Retro

This week’s ScoutCast is a throwback – a return to the days when Granville moaned about his team of red flags and names like Robin van Persie and Yaya Toure dominated our thinking.

Granville and I slip into such subject matter like it’s a pair of old slippers, whilst assessing the Aguero fall-out, the Dzeko option, Ivanovic versus “Dave” Azpi and how I’ve modelled my Fantasy Football management style on Roy Hodgson.

We roll out the regulars and lament the demise of the ScoutCast team – eliminated in the opening round of our own cup competition. Some things never change.

Swim in nostalgia via this link or roll back the years via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hi all,
Looking to shift Fabregas for the upcoming GW - have decent Chelsea coverage, like most, with Hazard & Costa.

If considering Man City MIDs - which way to go: Yaya Toure, Nasri or wait for Silva news?

I'd wait for some Silva news, he's great value at 8.8. Perhaps this is the week to monitor the City mids before acting on impulse 😉

You might be right Zasa. Currently assessing whether or not to hold off, avoid the hit - sort out the keeper issue only and play one of Boyd or Naylor to cover Fabregas - with the view to moving him on next week for City MID.
Having said that, City at Leicester could make for some tasty returns for the City MIDs...

I think Im 90% set on getting him in this week cos I have other inssues to deal with next week as it is. And it gets Chadli out of my team if nought else 😆 Rsiky but I fancy a punt at this stage

Get Yaya in this GW if you can afford him.....keep him for the Xmas period......and in Jan downgrade him to Nasri or Silva when he heads off to the ACON. You'll save funds and it will give you enough time to see who is playing better between Nasri & Silva

Jesus I just convinced myself to get YaYa next GW 🙂

Sorry, should probably have said Wanyama to Hazard or Sanchez. If you get both of them you'll need to be confident that the extra one you bring in will score at least once to make it worthwhile because it'll be costing you -4.

Can people here confirm, the earliest we can have a WC team to play is gw 21 and the latest is gw 24 correct? Is it usually better to keep towards the end of January so we have more clarity on the transfers / squads?

The January Wildcard can only be used after Gameweek 20 starts (1 Jan 11:30) until Gameweek 23 ends (7 Feb 11:30); as the January wildcard isn't available until after the Gameweek 20 deadline, the earliest these transfers will be active is Gameweek 21.

    1. BeachBadger
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

Better to keep til the end just in case of transfers and also it's generally better to hold your WC if you can. That being said the Jan WC is a bit different. I think it's worth playing for an 8pt hit if you were forced that way, as youre unlikely to take that much in hits over a short space of time.

    2. Shifty
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

Just look at the dates, not too hard 🙂

I tend to keep towards the end of January. Don't think the top clubs will be affected much but the value tends to found at the bottom half. Expect Pulis to come in for one of the strugglers.

    3. Ludo
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

Right, so the earliest you could play it would be immediately after the GW20 deadline has passed, in time for GW21. Holding on for later has the benefit of seeing if there are January transfers, as you say. There will be those who like to play it early if there team is an injured/suspended mess, and others who want to build TV at the start of January, but generally people will say hold out until the end of the month.

Repost from a week or so ago, but thought the crowd at this time might like it:

Costa has 7 goals in 6 at Stamford Bridge this season, but Azpilicueta has scored more points in his six home matches.

So this means it is good to own Costa but a bad idea to captain him, right?

I wouldn't say that... Costa's only blanked once at home. Really it just means that Azpilicueta is bloody brilliant.

I agree Davies. I've been on here 5 years and I've seen many examples of subversive collective bullying. It's often led to people leaving for good.

If someone is posting their opinions and backing them up with sound (or unsound) reasonings, then that's their prerogative

Those that post 50 questions a day and never say thank you once ( that st johnston fella, for eg ) THESE are the guys that need to be castigated, not Rickardinho.

Alright I'll make this one simple mates, looking for some more opinions before my future shitty GW
Keeping in mind I've taken a hit for Bego --> Fabi, only 2 GW's ago. I'm reluctant to take another hit for my GK so soon, would rather have a rotation going (6 hits in total)

    Gilks (Fabi*)
    Baines | Terry | Wisdom | Dummet | (Duff*)
    Sanchez | Hazard | Oscar | Siggy | (Marney)
    Bony | Dzeko | (Austin*)

Which of these for a hit? (5.0m ITB)
    A) Duff --------> Zaba/Vergini/Cresswell (Better starting X, no GK)
    B) Gilks ------> Panti (Full XI )
    C) Marney----> 9.4 mid

Someone said Shitty? Rhymes with me so hi.

Hey shifty 😉 How's it going mate?

I'm also leaning towards B right now, don't want to find myself in the same situation again
If I go C, I'd probably go with Downing, to upgrade Oscar to Silva/Nasri next week.

Cheers for the reply Shitty, much obliged 😉

Yea was going to say, if C, go with Downing though it's a little underwhelming - still looks like raking in the points as long as WHU keeps up their form. Save some bullets in the bank, no point going balls out and spending the cash right away on another big hitter when Downing is doing the same.

Maybe even Eriksen after this week. Peach few fixtures.

Agreed mate, I'll definitely sleep on this one

Aye, Downing with all three of Caroll/Sakho/Valencia fit, he might rake even more assists now 😯

Eriksen is tempting, hopefully Kane or Soldado show some signs of life so he can bag more consistent assists

I say this on the basis of you suggesting you are going to take a hit. As a hit, the keeper may cost you -2 but it gives you back-up during the busy Christmas fixture schedule.

You're right though, many are taking hits in different directions this week, many are lopsided & this may not be the week to take one.

If you ask yourself which of these choices can make up for your hit over next 2-3 weeks you would prob say a mid or possibly an attacking defender like Zaba. (def not a GK) Given his fixtures he prob will pick up at least a few clean sheets along the way. Rotation is your only risk, but I doubt Pellegrini will move him out of the starting lineup given his form, he's scored 2 in the last few weeks. Cresswell plays @Chelsea, vs Arsenal and @Swansea within their next 6 so prob would stay away.

As far as C goes, depends who you want to bring in. 0.2 more and you can steal ADM. There is plenty others just not sure who interests you. (Silva/Nasri, Downing, Eriksen, even Tadic has a nice fixture @Burnley)

Then play Foster to hedge your bets.

Should I play 442 this week? Or upgrade Marney (up to 9.6m) for a hit?

    Heaton (SOU)
Baines (QPR) Wisdom (AVL) Hutton (wba) Naylor (TOT)
Siggy (TOT) Hazard (HUL) Sanchez (NEW) Oscar (HUL)
    Lukaku (QPR) Bony (TOT)

    Krul, Marney, Yun, Austin

Shame Fabregas and Di Maria aren't available... Can't think of another mid I'd want to take a hit for in that price range, would just leave it for this week.

Solid side... a hit doesn't look like it's necessary for the this GW, given the starting XI and fixtures.

Re: your posts about City having only 5 CS's, I give you this post which is a (non-numerical) look at City's CS history and what it suggests about their CS potential going forwards. As I'm sure you'll see, their potential for CS's is much higher now due to ease of fixtures, particularly their home fixtures.

Feel free to let me know if there's something annoying or unhelpful in that post, so I can tailor future posts to suit your needs more. 🙂

If you don't have a playing 2nd GK then I'd pick Hart. If you do, and that gk rotates well with panti, then panti. Its a really close-run decision though.

But what do I know know :rolls: 😀

For a -4pt hit (having already completed Aguero > Costa):

    A: Fabianski & Fabregas > Pantilimon & Yaya Toure
    B: McCarthy & Fabregas > Pantilimon & Nasri/Silva
    C: McCarthy & Fabregas > GK sub £4.2m & Yaya Toure

    Current side-
    Fabianski McCarthy
    Clyne Bertrand Baines Yun Taylor
    Fabregas Hazard Sigurdsson Downing Boyd
    Costa Rooney Berahino

    Appreciate any thoughts

Yesterday after he played and looked poor people went off him
Then Mark talked him up and he flavour of the week again

For me he was on the short list for replacing Aguero at the start of the week and is on the shorter short list now. I haven't listened to the scout cast and I didn't see Dzeko play midweek so that hasn't affected my thinking.

Feel he was criticized rather harshly on Wednesday, coming into the game, I wasn't expecting any miracles. Just wanted to see how rusty he was & whether he was making decent runs into the box.
Scoring goals was an added bonus IMO.

Like Mark said, with these fixtures & poor opposition defensively.
He doesn't have to be in the form of his life against these guys, with Nasri/YYT/Silva all fit & delivering balls, at most he'll be making tap ins.
