The Weekend Team News

Aaron Ramsey is sidelined with a hamstring injury for Arsenal. Ron Vlaar could return for Villa’s derby clash with the Baggies. Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel has been ruled out with a broken foot, Toby Alderweireld is back for Southampton’s trip to Burnley, whilst Steven Fletcher is back in contention as Sunderland entertain West Ham.

Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny have been ruled out of Arsenal’s home clash with Newcastle. Mathieu Flamini has shrugged off a midweek calf complaint, though Calum Chambers is set to serve a one-match suspension for the Gunners.

Ron Vlaar and Fabian Delph will be assessed after returning to training ahead of Villa’s derby clash with West Brom. Ashley Westwood is ruled out for a month with a knee injury, whilst Tom Cleverley remains doubtful after picking up a foot injury last weekend.

Michael Duff remains a doubt with a calf complaint for Burnley, whilst Matt Taylor is “weeks away” from returning. Sam Vokes is still not ready for a first-team outing, though stepped up his recovery with a 90-minute run-out for the reserves in midweek.

Kasper Schmeichel is sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering a broken metatarsal in training. Leonardo Ulloa has recovered from the knock that forced him off last weekend, whilst Dean Hammond is also back in contention after recent injury.

Jak Alnwick is set for an extended period between the sticks for Newcastle after Rob Elliot joined Tim Krul on the sidelines with a thigh injury. Alan Pardew has admitted “We are pretty much where we were for Chelsea in terms of injuries,” though Davide Santon and Rolando Aarons have stepped up their recovery from injury.

Toby Alderweireld is back in Southampton’s squad after recovering quickly from a hamstring injury. Morgan Schneiderlin is a major doubt but will travel with the squad, whilst James Ward Prowse is also included for the trip to Burnley.

Marc Muniesa is a “big doubt” for Stoke’s trip to Palace. Potters boss Mark Hughes is optimistic that Jon Walters will overcome a knee knock in time to feature.

Steven Fletcher is ”fully fit” for Sunderland’s home encounter with West Ham, Gus Poyet has confirmed. Billy Jones and Emmanuele Giaccherini have trained but the weekend will come too soon for the pair.

Chris Brunt remains sidelined for West Brom’s clash with Villa due to a hamstring problem. Stephane Sessegnon has recovered from a calf complaint, whilst Alan Irvine has also revealed Youssouf Mulumbu has shrugged off an ankle problem for the derby.

Mark Noble is still unavailable for the Hammers due to an Achilles injury. Sam Allardyce confirmed “other than that, we don’t seem to have too many problems” – a sign that Carl Jenkinson has overcome the hamstring problem that forced him off last weekend.

Controversial starting line up for man city on the team news tab? Silva and Sagna in and no Zabaleta?

It is if you've got Zabaleta in (haven't but thought about it). Would really like to get Silva in for this week, so hopefully Pellagrini will give us some indication in press conference.

Zaba or Baines, Baines or Zaba:
In a back line with Azpilicueta, Dummett, Wisdom, Yun
I'm still top 1k but not having Baines or Costa recently is scary.

You've definitely got away with that in a big way!

I'll probably only consider Zab if Baines messes up again against QPR, but its unlikely due to Zabs rotation risk.

There is more than one way to play the game and making early transfers is a valid tactic.

But its a risk you take and it will backfire at least once or twice a season costing you 4-8 pts. Could easily net you £1m-2m by season end as well. I back myself to make the 8 pts back with an extra 1m to play with

True, true... I have Clichy, I'm hoping he'll go into Demel mode and keep getting subbed off with a clean sheet at 60 mins, only for Cirt to concede shortly afterwards.

      2. rickardinho
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

I don't think so. Him and Kolarov often come on as late subs for eachother. Otherwise I'd agree

            • 11 Years
            9 years, 5 months ago

He doesn't. They bring Kolarov on for more attack. There's no real tactical reason to being Clichy off the bench.

          2. rickardinho
            • 9 Years
            9 years, 5 months ago

Ah that is a nice piece of news.

However, I'd still want more nailed-on-ness for 5.5, and Clichy doesn't tend to play the easiest home fixtures either, which is precisely the ones I'd want a City defender for

    2. Billy Gilmore
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

I think Kolarov will start this week

    3. Pointsonthebench
      • 9 Years

He's tempting and it's fair to say hes #1 left back at City. But if you get him in you have to go into most GW's with a back up plan if he gets rested (i.e. a good 4th/5th defender).

I wouldn't say Zab will be 'rotated', just rested. As in, he will start most games, but yes he will miss the odd one or two (which is fine imo, if you have decent back up).

Clichy will pretty much share his position with Kolarov now in my opinion

      1. rickardinho
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

For 6.4m surely you'd want someone nailed-on like Terry. 5.5 for a def who'll play around 50-60% of the games (and not the easiest ones) is a bit much too

        1. Nickofoz
          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          • 9 Years

Already have Baines and Terry. I have money to blow from Aguero and getting a city defender is one of my priorities, yes I see your point but if Zaba is rested I have sufficient cover on the bench.

          1. rickardinho
            • 9 Years
            9 years, 5 months ago

With cover Zaba is the safest option to go for imo. Don't get tricked into getting one of their LB's, its just a headache waiting to happen

That's what I said above, Clichy and Kolarov will basically share the LB position, hence too risky to invest in.

Maybe go for a bit more punty and crazy approach since we are so close to the winter WC.

I'm relying on Berahino playing to field 11 this week....should I replace Chambers for a hit? Would have £6.0m

it's not unwise, one assists and has FKs, the other scores and has Pens...

Lukaku, Sakho, Benteke or Rooney are other options depending on your budget

Not at all. Personally don't think it matters if got 2 players from same team, is all about best value for money in each position.
