Monitor – Charlie Austin

In a season where a number of budget forwards have more than held their own with premium-priced alternatives, QPR’s Charlie Austin has arguably been the pick of the bunch. Still kindly priced at 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he sits second amongst strikers on 109 points, sandwiched in between big-hitting pair Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero on the back of 13 goals and a trio of assists in just 20 top-flight appearances.

Over the last four Gameweeks, however, Austin’s Fantasy returns have afforded his owners cause for concern. The R’s top scorer has struck just once from Gameweek 19 onwards – compared to five strikes in his previous four appearances – and with plenty of similarly priced options jostling for our attentions, we delve into the data to assess Austin’s recent displays, comparing them to both his previous performances and fellow forwards alike.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Williams> CB?

Who should I get? Thinking Lescott or Wollschied

    Bottomed...

Is this front 8 madness? I'll have a very strong D so wouldn't mind playing 433 here and there...

Just don't think Caz is nailed. Best case scenario is he keeps his place but gets shunted wide. More likely that he gets rotated here and there.

If Wenger had any bit of sense he'd continue playing him centrally instead of his bum-buddy Ozil

His place is a bit of a worry but I think he's as nailed as any of the other budget options.

I agree more or less. I'd probably still try and find some funds to get someone else in his place...though none of the other 6.0 options really thrill me.

That's the problem innit. Puncheon the only other enticing option but then I'm not convinced he's nailed and JWP has FK duty in his locker.

I've been trying to convince myself to get AdM or Falcao but can't do it. Giroud on the other hand looks about as sure a thing as there is ATM.

AdM was pretty nailed in my thinking but I am now having second thoughts about him. Not really concerned with him blanking but for them to score zero is a problem for me. He is so expensive and I am now looking at getting Eriksen instead. The fixtures are in AdM's favor to be sure but not seeing any reason to get him really besides that at the moment.

You should probably have at least three of Costa, Aguero, Sanchez and Hazard.

And three Chelsea players - there are about six to choose from.

But he isn't essential yet IMO if you have the others.

Costa will definitely outscore Fab, question really comes down to whether the cheapie you bring in for Fab will outscore the cheapie you put upfront if you keep Fab?

Personally I went Costa and Chadli over Fab and Austin....so far it's been OK, but not great.

Puncheon replacement if I get Gayle for 3rd striker?

it's either Kosc and a 5.8m or less mid or Bellerin and:

I don't, really, no. I think Kos is a wonderful pick and I think Bellerin is just a transfer waiting to happen. He is a good pick as a 5th defender, maybe, but probably not worth it at this juncture just too much of an unknown.

Absolute punt going for a Utd player now, they've proved even against weak opposition that they aren't consistent enough to back. I brought ADM on my wc last week, for practically zero return, and am keeping for the next game only. If he scores well he stays, if not (and expecting him not to) he's gone.

I certainly wouldn't be looking to bring in Utd players now.

Pelle likes a flat 442 and he's a tier above Dzeko and Jovetic..

then we shouldnt say that bony is 100% nailed on. a fit again kun, is pelle fav striker. dzeko/jovetic/bony would share 1 spot, then 33% each. lets say pelle prefer the newcomer bony than jovetic/dzeko, i’ll give 50% to bony and 25% to each of dzeko/jovetic.

Kun won't be properly fit for the rest of the season. I don't know why people just assume he will be.

barring fixture congestion or injury, there's no reason to play Dzeko and Jovetic over Bony..

Pelle prefers 442 to a lone striker and yet even STILL would rather play Kun alone than play one of Dzeko or Jovetic this season

Actually i cannot really see how i can invest my cash with the kun cash

using a template team as an example

A defense with pva ivan clyne wisdom+ 1 more is good enough

Midfield of hazard sanchez boyd +

carzola/silva/oscar/sterling+ elia/punch etc is good enough

      Costa kane (kun replacement)

Where would u spend the extra 3-4m?

Not much area that i would want to spend on unless u plan om a strong front 8 to rotate which in this case i would rather just have kun

My slow cooked shoulder of pork has been on for 12 hours now. The gaff smells delicious.

A cheeky pulled pork/ homemade slaw, with cheesy topped ciabatta is on the cards. The shredded white and red cabbage, coupled with julienne carrots and pickled red onion have been marinating with a touch of pepper, whith wine vinegar and dijoun mustard.

The pork was slow cooked with a Jack Daniels smoky BBQ marinade sauce.

Harry Kane ain't definitely eating this.

This is it. He's top of the FPL forwards chart. And likely to remain there imo. Plays as the only striker in the league's best team.
The injury proness has been disproved. He hasn't been booked in ages.
Like I said, I just don't get it.

Because he affords a few upgrades throughout the rest of your team and with a WC there is no better time to take advantage. His £11.2 ppg vs Austin at £6.4 speaks volumes.

He priced about right so can build a good team by getting eg Austin or giroud and investing elsewhere. He also suffers from the Chelsea effect in that he not getting as much bonus for goals as other players scoring similar amounts and hazard who we all have is just as good a choice in the plum home fixtures so captain bonus of having him is less.

Having said all that I'm still getting him on WC next week 🙂

Di Maria can't even score against Cambridge???

I don't think I want to bring him in now.

ADM isn't a goal scorer anyway. He only got 4 last season I think

Yes. Sadly now he even can not assist. 😀

Too rich for my blood. £9.5 for the odd assist, no thanks.

Torn between Silva and Cazorla for next few fixtures. Help?

    Silva (HUL, stk, NEW, liv)
    Caz (tot, LEI, cpl, EVE)

    also

    Clichy (HUL, stk, NEW, liv)
    Jones (why, BUR, swa, SUN)

Silva is the safer choice long term though short term punt on caz could work out if you trying to gain ground (and who isnt other than world #1)

Not even sure a short term is worthwhile considering both are in form and fixtures pretty even.

Silva - he's having a Stella season and City seem to rely on him a lot more than Arsenal do to Caz. I also think Silvas stats are more sustainable than Cazorla's

Jones - at least Uniteds defence still seems to work. Jones is getting a few set pieces as well so his offensive threat is on the rise. With European games coming up for City I'm sure Kolarov will get the odd game over Clichy

        Thanks Ryan.
Everyone has been telling me to ditch Clichy but with Kompany back, great fixtures and the desire not to loose touch with Chelsea it adds up to CS's.
He also rotates well with Che/Ars defence. The threat isn't ideal is all. 🙁

I just see rotation headaches in future. Jones is nailed on at least and if United can't score they will get clean sheets

It's certainly a solid squad. I just think Kane, Puncheon and JWP is a bit light

remains to be seen if we'll be as airtight if we do shift to a 4-back but Rojo looked splendid today, so that could help

Pogba has been playing as Chelsea in FM 2015 so he can get used to his new colleagues.

Varane loves Jose and wants to play under him again.

Reus would be great for Chelsea but we probably won't get him. Cuadrado seems the likely one if Schuerrle leaves.

Vidal, Bale and Hummels you can have. 😉

And why does everyone want Jones, when i was going to buy him last week you all tried to put me off him, he wasnt nailed and an injury waiting to happen you all said.
Now one short gameweek later, after a clean sheet, you all want him, what a fickle lot

Never really looked at him or United for the reason that they ALL seem prone to rotation and are relatively expensive. But I need to make £0.3 so he fit the bill with those fixtures.

Fixtures are what make me look at him. LEI whm BUR swa SUN new next six.

To be fair - what you asked last week was "can anyone give me a good reason why I shouldn't buy Jones?" You were only asking for negatives really.
