FFS Cup

FFS Paddy Power Cup XI and Members Cup V – Entry Now Open

Fantasy Football Scout is pleased to announce two new Fantasy Premier League cup competitions which are set to take place over the season run-in. First of all, we roll out the eleventh instalment of our open-to-all cup competition, sponsored by Paddy Power. This is your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Gribude, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleepingmaster, Mch, Wild Rover, Tdubb05 and our reigning champion CMIFLFC in our hall of fame.

We’ve also opened entry for the fifth instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Members Cup, as Trigg looks to defend his title. Fuzzy Dunlop, Kippax Kikkers and Acquafresca were our other previous winners of this tournament.

If you’re familiar with our competitions you can get your entries in right now via the links below. If you’re new to all this, read on for an FAQ on the competitions.

Enter the Paddy Power XI Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup V via this entry form.

How do the cup competitions work?

Our cup competitions are very similar to the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the manager highest in the overall standings will progress.

When do they start?

The qualifying rounds for both cups will take place in Gameweek 28, with the first rounds running on Gameweek 29.

Fantasy managers can enter their teams from now right up to Wednesday March 11, when we’ll stop entry and will be drawing the first round ties from the qualifiers.

There will be 512 qualifiers for the members cup and 1024 for the Paddy Power Cup XI – depending on the number of entries. All our previous winners gain a bye into the first round draw where they will join the top scorers from Gameweek 28.

FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions. The same rules apply in the Members Cup

How do I enter?

Enter the Paddy Power XI Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup V via this entry form.

In both cases you will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry and you’ll be asked to confirm your FPL team id at the point of entry – please be sure to click the link to verify that your team is correct before confirming.

To check that you’re entered correctly, please scan the list of current entries.

The Paddy Power Cup XI entry list can be found here.

The Members Cup entry list can be found here.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying rounds of both cups will be published on or around March 11 and then weekly from that point on.

What is the Gameweek Schedule?

These Cup competitions will be played out according to the following Gameweek schedule:

Are there prizes?

Prizes will be announced in a follow up article.

Do I have to enter if I’m previous winner?

Yes, because your FPL team ID will have changed, we will need to record you entry again. As a previous winner, you will be given a bye to the first round proper.

Do I need to be registered with Fantasy Football Scout?

We ask you to supply a FFScout username so we can feature you, as a member of our community, in any articles associated with the tournament. Ideally, you will already have a username with us but this is not essential to enter (although it is for the Members Cup) – you must, however, supply a username for the purpose of the tournament so you can be identified in articles. You must not change this username throughout the course of the tournament, should you do so without permission, or should you enter multiple teams or if your FFS account comes under moderation for any reason, we reserve the right to remove you from a tournament.

I know we should be concentrating on GW27 but I can't help but think about the double gameweek that’s about to come.

I'd like to discuss captain options. For me there's only really 2 (3 if you are punting on Austin) captain choices for that week: Kane and Aguero. I'd like to argue that there is no better option than Kane for the double and that you're wrong for choosing Aguero 🙂

Even if you are looking for differentials I’d advise looking elsewhere.

One of the main arguments for Aguero is that he’s playing Leicester and Kane MIGHT not get decent game time in both matches. For me it’s worth the risk. Even if he just plays one game there’s a chance he outscores Aguero and if he plays both who knows what might happen. We could be looking at another Berbatov 5 goal haul.

Here are some stats I've pulled up for their scoring over the season. For points over the course of the season I've based this on games where they've played 60+ minutes. In this regard they’re very even with Kane playing 16 and Aguero 17.

PPG over the course of the season:

    Kane - 7.25
    Aguero - 7.23

Form - PPG over last 5 games:

    Kane - 8.4
    Aguero - 8.2

    They've scored a point every....

    Kane - 11.7 minutes
    Aguero - 10.71 minutes

    Double figure hauls:

    Kane - 5
    Aguero - 4

    Hauls above 15 points:

    Kane - 1
    Aguero - 2

    Conceded over last 5 games:

    Leicester - 9
    Swansea - 5
    QPR - 8

    Conceded in last 5 (away/home):

    Leicester (away) - 9
    Swansea (away) - 7
    QPR (home) - 6

As you can see from the above no matter which way you look at their scoring Kane has kept pace with Aguero over the course of the season. We’re past the point of worrying about Kane’s price and whether this is a fluke and should be giving him the credit he’s earned.

As above, you could argue that Kane might only get 90 minutes once and in that case I would agree that Aguero has the easier fixture but for the chance of two games from a player outscoring the best striker in the league over a decent period of time how can you not give him the captains armband? You know your rivals will be.

I want to go Aguero or Austin but you hit the nail on the head with your last sentence -

'You know your rivals will be.'

If he gets a Berba haul and youve not captained him it will hurt so much more than him only playing 120 mins over the two games. I think youve convinced me in about 15 mins 😉

I assumed Kane was a given but at least on here there seems to be quite a few looking at Aguero seriously. Obviously we can each make our own decisions I just happen to think it's probably the wrong one 🙂

Aguero has done this season after season. He's familiar to the leagues defences. Even at this moment, plans will be being made to negate Kane. So I don't believe the stats are relevant.

There's no doubt that Aguero is the better striker, no-one will seriously deny that.

The point is this season Kane has been scoring on a par with the best striker in the league over the course of a lot of games. Surely the "risk" (and I don't even think it's a risk) of making him your captain is worth it for potentially 2 games v 1?

    Pick a Wisdom replacment:

    A) Wolly
    B) Naughton
    C) Dawson
    D) Other (4.5 or under)

    Defence currently is:
    Foster, Panti
    PvA, Terry, Berty, Monreal, WISDOM

Bookmakers think Bayer will score (2.62 for Atletico clean sheet), they are quite good at attacking + any yellow/red can be shown to Moya as well...

Might Stephen Ireland be nailed on now after strong recent performances? Seen that Stoke's other midfielders are playing shite.

Using one of the 2FTs this week, which of the below?
    a) PvA to Dawson
    b) Blind to Brady

    Then for DGW:
    1) Defoe to Austin
    2) Bellerin to Yun

    Does the plan above work?

    1. TheCurseOfRaheem

PvA to Dawson and Defoe to Austin. Yun might finish with a negative score this week.

AdM for GW27 & Eriksen for GW 28

    or

    Silva for GW27&GW28.

Both without a hit, but in the latter case could save a transfer on GW28, or use it to something else, if needed. I have my wildcard left and may use it soon, so I'm not over eager to save my transfers.

Yeah, it seems better. It's three matches against two, after all, and City come from an exhausting Barca match to play at Liverpool. I'm just a bit afraid of 1) ManU being shite and 2) Silva destroying Leicester.

Also, I've been moving AdM in and out of my team recently. Starts to feel stupid to bring him back in again just to transfer him out the next week. That shouldn't matter, though, should not let bad past choices affect the future ones.

My one free transfer this week. For a Season keeper Wisdom to....?

    A)Naughton
    B)Wolly
    C)Dawson

    1. Teror
      • 9 Years

I did Naughton mainly because he's got Burnley and I'm going to do Bellerin > Dawson next week. I'd definitely make sure I've got a Dawson in there, probably more so than Naughton.

Wolly isn't a clever choice imo, Stoke's main centerback is out and they've hardly been solid. Good fixtures don't necessarily mean clean sheets.
