The Community Round Up

The importance of luck proved a hot topic of discussion among our community members and writers this week. Lady luck will certainly need to be smiling down on the community if they are to successfully navigate this weekend’s blank fixtures and the double Gameweek 28. There was plenty of articles and posts to help Fantasy managers get through this tricky schedule, from picking the best budget defenders to captaincy decisions.

This week also saw the launch of the first live video Scoutcast of the season, which, as with last term’s episodes, also featured Granville’s cat. As ever, we also look at the best statistic tables compiled in our Members area and feature those lucky managers who refuse to give up their lead in our Community leagues.

The Community Articles

The community’s benches have been decimated in recent weeks through budget defenders falling out of favour with Premier League managers. Luckily Innsie was on hand to offer up some cut price differential alternatives to the likes of the West Brom defender Andre Wisdom and other victims of rotation.

There is no doubting Tottenham players potential to shine when they take on both QPR and Swansea in Gameweek 27 but, as Ludo reveals, even Spurs stars are unlikely to escape rotation.

There is no such desire to transfer out David Silva, who has emerged as a major success story in recent months. But can he maintain his strong form? SC not pearls before swine believes the Manchester City midfielder may struggle to keep scoring and assisting on such a regular basis.

How much does luck effect our teams, pondered Andy85wsm in this interesting look at events that are seemingly beyond our control. The community also chipped into the debate by recalling their luckiest and unluckiest Fantasy Premier League moments.

Among those hoping for fortune to favour them is Zasa, who is representing the community in the Scout Picks in Gameweek 27 after winning this week’s vote. Another is The Puntmaster, who is hoping his Gameweek 27 punts bring him more joy that his previous picks this month.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

As well as the role of luck, Andy85wsm has also been looking at another key ingredient to Fantasy football – having fun. He says that the entertainment factor of the impending double Gameweek cannot be underestimated, whether it brings good fortune or not.

Among players being considered for Gameweek 28’s double fixtures is Charlie Austin. While he faces Tottenham and Arsenal at home, Sanchez pointed out that the QPR striker looks a good choice having already scored against Chelsea, Manchester City and the Gunners this season. However, Ludo is not convinced and believes Austin may struggle against better opposition, particularly at home.

There were further Gameweek 28 contenders to mull over in Innsie’s look at the best players options to consider.

For Ruth NZ, there are more pressing matters at hand, namely Gameweek 27. He believes this weekend may offer an even greater opportunity to climb up the rankings.

This weekend also looks like a good opportunity to take a punt on a differential captain. During our discussion on armband punts, Demi favoured Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney for the armband, while Wiz had West Ham’s Diafra Sakho under his watchful eye.

Getting the right squad balance between this weekend’s blanks and the following Gameweek’s double fixtures for Spurs and QPR will be key. As our discussion on Gameweek 27 tactics revealed, there are some who are happy to go into the weekend’s matches with just 10 players to save their transfers for the double Gameweek.

Finally, this week saw the launch of our first live video Scoutcast of the season, where Mark and Granville were joined by myself and Granville’s cat. The three humans present took questions from the community and discussed the impending double Gameweek and blank fixtures. Look out for a hot topic on Monday night when we will post a link and details of how you can take part in the next live Scoutcast. Judging by your kind comments, it could prove to be a popular format in the weeks ahead.

The Members Tables

Teltzer has been looking at points per game potential of midfielders. Meanwhile, Zombie has been analysing goals per minute to showcase the most prolific strikers. Only those forwards who have scored six or more times are included.

Elsewhere, fortunesalwayshiding has placed Newcastle’s defence under the microscope. Given their budget pricing and kind Gameweek 27 fixture, when they host Aston Villa, this could provide some useful transfer options before deadline.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Greenwindmill continues to look unbeatable in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league. He has a 36 lead over second placed Mark and goes into Gameweek 27 with an overall rank of 131. Another unstoppable manager is 99th ranked Sarnab Das, who continues to top the Long and Winding Road league.

Back on the Horse is another high flyer refusing to give up a lead. He clings onto first place in the Puffinboy Memorial Cup league, which is named after one of this website’s first community members.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition, 311 teams survived after 56 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 54.

A question for all those arguing you need only Kane and maybe one other DGW player next week. Are you saying it because you truly believe it? Or, if you're totally honest with yourself, is it because other players being dropped, injured or suspended mean you're having to burn your free transfers this week and you are trying to justify going with fewer DGW players?

Put another way, if you could field 11 this week, with Kane and Eriksen sat on your bench, and two free transfers available next week, how many DGW players would you select?

Most DGW, loading up is the strategy normally followed. This time there seems to be a lot of effort going into justifying going with fewer DGW players. These may well be valid arguments, but I'm intrigued because it goes against the usual orthodoxy.

i think it is a little unusual because there are some really good fixtures for the non DGW teams whereas only Spurs have good fixtures for the DGW.

I don't want Austin in long term (unless Giroud shows sign of getting dropped tomorrow)..so might leave him out for dgw..will decide by then..

    3. Zasa

I'm ok fielding only Kane and perhaps Eriksen. Reason being, I don't want to disrupt my attack as they all have prime home fixtures apart from Sanchez, no one I really feel comfortable taking out for Eriksen. I feel more comfortable with double Pool as it's own Gw28 differential.

That said, only Eriksen may convince me, will see how Coutinho plays on the weekend. Other than him, there's no one really worth it IMO. Especially with the digs from the community on his possible rotation.

      1. Diva
        • 9 Years

I see the concern and bringing players in for a hit could well be counter productive, but both sides have positive fixtures in the few weeks after the double (except for Spurs' United game) so I don't think there needs to be a great rush to get them out. Both teams have a lot to fight for in the League too and no other distractions after the League Cup final.

    4. Ruth_NZ

This is simple. I'm interested in maximising my score over the remaining 12 GWs. Any changes I make will be done with that in mind.

I don't rate the DGW as a big deal because Spurs will be completing 4 games in 9 days, there will be tiredness and there will be rotation. It's inevitable.

As long as I have Kane (which I already do) I'm really not concerned. I won't be captaining a DGW player in any case. I may bring in Eriksen but only because I like his fixtures over the next 4-6 weeks and I won't particularly mind if he plays only once next week. I don't want a Spurs defender. And I don't want Austin either.

1, maybe 2 is enough for me. I don't see the value in the DGW and I therefore won't be chasing rainbows.

they're worth a hit for sure. there is no question about it... I would take a -4 to get Eriksen + Austin in for Walcott and Bera. Leaves me with 3 DGW and I'm happy with that

    Panti 4.0
    (VERTOGHEN) (HUTTON) Wollscheid Fonte (PVA)
(HAZARD) Walters Di Maria Caz Sanchez
    Aguero Defoe Giroud

    0.9 ITB 1FT

i though i was going to make no transfer as i can field 11 easily and keep 2 tfs to bring in 2 spur for next week... however i see many post about "no need 3 spur or not worth" and now hutton and PVA and unlikely to start... any suggestion on tfs?

Many of us are in the same boat. The following comments points toward a start, but who knows.

      Ben Dinnery tweeted:
PvA could come straight back into the #SAFC side "He will be back in contention tomorrow for sure. It was a bit of size [needed vs WBA]"

You know that wine rack you put in your kitchen. You should have put it higher. You know that real fire you have you will need a massive fire guard around it. Better get some things to go in your sockets. Stair gates are essential too

    Next week.. With 2FT's:

    Panti Krul
    Terry Kosc Clyne Dawson Naughton
    Sanchez Hazard ADM Cazorla Boyd
    Aguero Defoe Kane

    Defoe > Austin make sense?
What to do with the other?

      Yep.

Get rid of ADM. For either Silva or Eriksen.

Those are the exact same moves I'm making (except Giroud instead of Defoe). Still so split between Silva and Eriksen, though.

Nick you are hand-wringing about this. 😉

Just imagine Eriksen only plays once in DGW. Or maybe 120 minutes. Then ask yourself who you want for the next 4-6 weeks. Silva at 9.5 or Eriksen at 8.4. Make the decision in the context of what else you want to do with your squad.

Either could be a good move. It depends on your overall strategy for the coming weeks which fits best.

PS If it wasn't for the DGW I'm almost certain you'd go for Silva. In which case that's the move you should make. He stands just as good a chance of scoring well next week as Eriksen does.

Haha, hmm yeah, that's a good way of saying it.

Just made a post about Silva, his numbers are down yet he keeps scoring well. Surely it must stop soon?

    Morning deadzoners!

I am on a tight budget (4.1m) to fill my lineup this week. Who do I pick? Haidara or McShane? Already have Bruce.

I might also need the player next week, depending on injuries (I always get one).

    So it is down to;

    Mcshane Sto(away) and maybe SUN(home)

    or

    Haidara Avl(home) and maybe MUN(home)

I am wildcarding after gw 28 to clean up the mess, so longer term no issue.

Haidara obviously got the better fixture, but he was prob the worst player on the pitch against City last week. Though, already having Bruce, McShane isnt optimal, but he is getting credit for his play in the media.

Im swinging towards McShane - what do you think?

    1. Joggers Nipple
      • 14 Years

Despite his form and next weeks fixture it still has to be Haidria for me.

No one needs double Hull defence.

Thanks for your opinion. Hull hasnt been too bad defensively though, conceded very few big chances this season. Only Chelsea, Soton, CPL and sunderland betters them. Newcastle is at the other end together with Spurs and Leicester.

So im afraid Haidara gets dropped. Thats always an issue with Bruce/McShane too though, but with 4.1 to play with you get what you pay for.

Understand. i have been shopping around this price bracket too! Spending time thinking about Hadria, PVA, Hull, Baird etc is so dull.
