The Community Round Up

North London proved the inspiration for a raft of articles and discussions as the community braced itself for Tottenham’s double Gameweek and kept a watchful eye over Arsenal’s evolving midfield options. We also discovered the unusual locations and situations where the community has made transfers and offer our support to a community veteran who is seriously unwell and has been absent from the site for a number of weeks.  Elsewhere we catch up on the goings on in our community leagues to discover how much the double Gameweek has affected the latest rankings.

The Members Articles

With double Gameweek fever almost over, our Community scribes were spending their time looking ahead to future transfers as well as Fantasy managers’ motivation.

Jaffalicious has been particularly interested in the evolving dynamics of the Arsenal midfield and forward line to find out which are the best assets to invest in. As his excellent delve into the statistics shows Mesut Ozil is emerging as a pivotal figure, though Alexis Sanchez’s goal on Wednesday proved the Chilean is still worthy of consideration. Following Sanchez’ strike, Jaffalicious returned to offer this update to his findings.

Drafting in Ozil over the last month has proved to be a significant boost to overall ranks. But as Andy85wsm ponders, does overall rank really matter that much, compared to mini-league glory and the thrill of a reckless transfer?

Staying with North London, it was Tottenham that helped Ludo claim a £20 Amazon voucher this week. His look at how Spurs  line up during congested fixture schedules was voted the Best Community Article of February.

There may also be time to congratulate the Puntmaster, who has two players still to play in this weekend’s second Double Gameweek fixture. Already QPR’s Matthew Phillips has rewarded his faith after just the first match.

The Hottest Topics

When we asked the community to recall the most unusual places they have made a transfer we were unprepared for the incredible response, as some spectacular, cheeky and audacious transfer venues and situations were revealed. From tinkering with a line up in a Taliban warzone to drafting players in while babies are born, and even while babies are being made, this proved to be one of the most popular discussions of the week.

Speaking of popular hot topics, we learned this week that community stalwart Doosra is currently seriously unwell and still in hospital after two weeks. When Granville broke the news the response from the community was overwhelming, with more than 200 of you offering messages of support. In addition Kings of Lyon came up with the excellent idea for the community to add 42 to their username, in reference to Doosra’s often used Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy themed response.

This week also saw double Gameweek fever hit. With just one game to go, the Community will be hoping it produces the sort of cherished memories that were recounted in Demi’s look back at double Gameweeks of yesteryear. Among our Team News man’s recollections was former Tottenham player Benoit Assou Ekotto’s surprise points haul back in 2012.

Double Gameweeks can offer a cruel lesson to some, as D1sable’s discussion on lessons learned in Fantasy Football showed. Ziegler 1988 was among those to chip him with his realisation that he should always start the season with Branislav Ivanovic, who always seem to score well early on.

Jaffalicious has not been the only one to look at Arsenal’s attacking statistics this week. Daniel Exeter has also been looking at the North London side’s players, in particular Mesut Ozil’s affect on his team-mates.

Some of those who captained Sergio Aguero this week may be feeling like quitting Fantasy Football following his measly four-point armband haul. But despite such lows EpicFail can’t see himself ever giving it up. In his hot topic on giving up FPL, he reveals he has been playing Fantasy Football for more than 20 years and hopes to carry on for decades to come.

The Members Tables

Doosra has been one of the most prolific constructors of statistics tables in our Members area. Given his current absence from the site we wanted to dedicate this week’s look at the Members Tables to some of his most popular sets of figures. For those looking for attackers his Deadly Assassins table is sorted by shots on target and offers a raft of suitable forwards to consider. There’s a surprise name topping his Midfield Marauders table, that is also sorted by shots on target. Meanwhile, his Dangerous Defenders table offers a useful guide to some of the most shot happy defenders in the game.

The Community Leagues

Going into the final fixtures of the double Gameweek, Greenwindmill continues to lead the FFS Moderators and Contributors League, although Mark has clawed back two points in midweek. Ross Gillard is another to maintain a lead during the double Gameweek and continues to top the Top 1,000 Any Season league. Elsewhere, Back on the Horse, continues at the summit of the The Puffinboy Boy Memorial League.

The ocean's pretty big. And the remaining chunks would probably be small by the time the ocean is done with it.

They'll find it, sooner or later.

aye, this is what always pissed me off about oasis and gallagher in general, they never changed their sound or explored new musical avenues (unlike their heroes the beatles)....whilst blur/albarn consistently tried new stuff and sounded fresher for it......... not even a blur fan, just got annoyed that years after the britpop peak i was still hearing whiny sounding loaded era lad-rock when it wasnt relevent

obiously albarns journey since blur with gorillaz, opera writing and his solo career etc is a bit extreme and wasnt always successful, but at least he tried

Say what ya like about Noel....few singer song writers can boast the back catalogue of quality tunes and lyrics that he can. The b-sides alone from early Oasis are of exemplary quality few can boast of imo.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I mean, I understand a small band starting out, sticking to their sound for a few albums obviously. But then, your money is made, your success is there, you can keep churning out new songs that everyone things are old songs because they're so similar or you can branch out. In all honesty, I actually like the Gorillaz more than Blur (big Blur fan as well), because you can see that it is genuinely just a bunch of guys putting together ideas purely based on what they'd like to hear, not what others might (not to say that Blur did that of course, the Gorillaz just seemed to have more freedom.)

If I ever managed to get my foot in the door of the music industry, Albarn's route would be the one I'd look at as inspiring.

Classically trained and it shows but I still think oasis early songwriting was class. There's a lot to be said in making a point musically with the minimum amount of notes and not in a status quo way 🙂 Like a gag that gets straight to the punchline... My guitar teacher is a classically trained old boy and he is passionate about the oasis song structure and them way they make their point with minimum production and effort! Not sure this is still the case with the high flying birds and all that! Huge production and it does nothing for me personally

I think a few bands use limited structures to their benefit, might surprise you but many of The Killers' songs are very simple chord arrangements. Oasis do it too, of course. For me, I find it difficult to listen to them too much as their sound in most songs is very similar (though I will say that The Importance Of Being Idle is a bit different, and is actually arguably one of my favourites of theirs). Naturally they have produced some belters, I just have always liked how Albarn could do it in many different styles (so many different sounds like Melancholy Hill or El Manana by the Gorillaz compared to Coffee & TV or Universal).

    RP for the new crowd.

    Foster
    Terry - Cawson - PVA
    Sanchez - Silva - Eriksen - Mane
    Aguero - Sturridge - Kane

    Myhill - Vertonghen - Alderweireld - Ameobi

Got 1 FT and 0.6m in the bank.

    A. Eriksen+Vert ➡ Hazard+Bruce for -4
    B. Mane ➡ Puncheon
    C. Save and do A for free next week.
    D. Other

    Thanks. 🙂

He went off after only 18 minutes or so, so won't likely get any clean sheet points for that short of an appearance, I'd think...

Not sure why it says he only played 16 minutes then, and why this report:

                      http://www.goal.com/en-us/match/stoke-city-vs-everton/1704051?ICID=HP_CO_SC_8

says that he was lost to an injury after fifteen minutes with Geoff Cameron coming on as a replacement

                😯

                Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim

Skyrim crippled you as a mage, I mean they keep taking out spells and the ability to make your own ones!. The dragons were fun at first but then they got a tad repetitive... I loved the idea of the story, not the execution sadly... Genuinely, I tried really hard but couldn't enjoy it.

Agreed with that on Skyrim. Felt it went from Tolkien to Martin.

Never gave Morrowind a fair retrospective go as people said the enemy AI is too broken

Aye, that was my feeling too, nicely put!

Yeah, it is hard to go back to having played the newer games. That's why I usually say that whatever game you first play from the series will be your favourite. Not always true (in fact, the reason Morrowind has held up so well for me is that I modded the hell out of it on my PC to upgrade the combat system and graphics).

Terranigma, Zelda, Super Metroid, Secrets of Mana etc

Sadly stopped gaming since the PS2.

There has been a lot of utter crap churned out. Some great games still, but those old Zelda and Mario games were something else.

A Japanese influenced RPG was always top for me.

Final Fantasy VII took the biscuit for quality.

Aye. A number of problems really with the industry, some games becoming too dramatic, focusing too much on who they can get to voice act, on the graphics etc. while most of the underlying mechanics of the games are all the exact same.

Grand Theft Auto V, while rude, is one of the best in recent years.

It is a shooter which I'm not usually keen on. Treasure hunters on an alien planet, crazy animals, bandits, very funny inhabitants and situations, millions of guns (and I mean millions), lots and lots of treasure etc. It is a bit cartoony in it's animation but if you want a bit of a mental game, it is that. Though I would say it is most fun if played multiplayer, really enjoyed playing it as a team (with my little brother AND with the girlfriend).

Crikey...I prefer slower...Even COD is too fast. The only game I've liked latel I'd Sniper Elite 3 that my son has on his Xbox one...Play that as slow as you like, in fact the slower the better.

That is a good one, absolutely.

It depends how you choose to play Borderlands, there is a sniper character I may add (whom I always play as 😉 )

It can get a bit mental but not like COD at all, much more fun and crazy than anything. Could always go for one of the HALO games, another shooter but you can go slow with it as well. (Not as slow as Sniper Elite, but still there are options).

I really had a funny moment earlier. I was talking to the missus and she said 'do you want some crispy beef from the Chinese' and I said 'no thank you, I don't like crispy beef'.

It really made me laugh. She knows I don't like crispy beef. Yet she offered it to me when she ordered. Still laughing now.
