The ScoutCast – Episode 154 – Beard

With Granville sulking on sabbatical, it was left to myself and Jonty and his flourishing facial hair to hold the fort, ably supported by this week’s guest, Luke aka D1sable.

Racking up one of the longest episodes for months, the three of us talk slippers, banish at least seven teams to the Championship and mention Jeffrey Schlupp as much as humanly possible. Despite missing Granville’s secret sauce, we also do our best to serve up the regulars, whilst addressing the quizzing and probing from the Fantasy Football Scout community – thats you.

Once again, if you escaped the horror of Monday’s live Hangout you can view the full movie below. Alternatively, you can enjoy our semi-slick, edited audio version via this link or the first player.

If you want to get the heads up on future Hangouts, be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone currently debating between Oscar and mane? Both have nice fixtures

I wonder if Oscar won't all of a sudden pop up with another little binge of good form coming up. He always seems to roller coaster to highs and lows throughout the season. He is in my thoughts for the DGW, but would like to see just a small bit of form first.

I am favoring mane slightly, only because Oscars form has dipped of late. But Hamptons inept attack is a minus for mane

Mane is nailed on, cheaper, in form and doesnt take up a valuable Chelsea spot. Dont think there's much of a debate to be honest unless you expect Oscar to kick it up a notch?

Ahem, Defoe. I'm seriously considering Defoe over Silva this week though. He's got to score eventually!

And this is why 3-5-2 isn't perhaps the best idea, on reflection. You're still going to want to play your back-up striker occasionally. I'd never bench a big-gun for Boyd.

I shouldve benched Aguero for Boyd last week 😆 not a fan of 3-5-2 myself. Its nice having options but youll rarely pick the right ones. Over time.the big guns always come good

I can't believe I've just admitted it TBH, have been a staunch advocate of mixing up formations for ages. But it does seem it's hard to go wrong with 3-4-3. 🙁

So I was really liking the look of my team not so long ago, not so much now....thanks to those that commented on my GK query last page.....would love some overall thoughts on what to do this week..

    Krul
    Clyne Zouma Bellerin
    Hazard Sanchez Silva Eriksen
    Aguero Kane Austin

    Foster* PVA Cork Dawson

    2FT and 1.8 ITB

Would seem that Foster is probably a priority now but my defence overall is looking sketchy....would appreciate any thoughts on what to do here

Hm tricky one here, Waldo. I think a GK transfer is necessary, even though it's a low ceiling position, Newcastle are crap and when Foster returns their fixtures turn badly. Foster to Forster seems a tidy transfer, or maybe even look at Mignolet. After that I'd probably look at removing Zouma. Not sure who to get in his place, though, but think he may not get many starts down the stretch as they are out of all other competitions.

Your comments are very much appreciated as always Walsh, cheers. Forster probably the move cos if I did go Migs I wouldn't want to play him this week....was hoping to keep GK's cheap but just might not be the best move right now

I mean Krul is so useless, which is the problem, since Newcastle can't be backed to keep a clean against anyone. You could just do Foster to Boaz and see what happens down the road if you want to keep it cheap there. Forster you could just at least start week in week out basically and not have to think or worry about it again.

who do I transfer out first and for who?

Bellerin (Rotation risk and Blank GW33)
PVA (Rotation risk poor form and Blank G33)
Haidara ( red flag poor fixtures)

    A Naughton
    B Clark/Hutton

Yep. Could still be 34 (just) but more likely 37.

It seems TV has more say in the matter than in previous seasons, probably because the PL has sold so many live games.

Now I'm sure of Benteke + Ivan and I am rarely sure. Stats say nay. But because of Sánchez downgrade in GW33 (to Mané or Siggy) I'll be able to afford Costa with Ivan in the boat already.

    Panti / 4.0
Clyne / Ivan / Kos (Cawson / Baird)
Hazard / Sanchez / Silva / Eriksen (Boyd)

Should I disregard the DGW or do the following. 2FT & .2ITB.

    Pants Hamer
    Bell Bert Ivan Cress Jan
    Haz Caz Sanch Silva Walters
    Austin Kane Aguero

    Hamer to Guzan
    Walters to Philipps

    Caz or Sanch to Mane
    Hamer to Forster

That is a very tidy team, mate. I'd probably just get rid of Foster for funds and float the other. Starting Downing and holding Punch right now isn't really too bad. Don't like your proposed transfers too much either.

I need to ship out Nasri, Carzola, PvA, Jenkinson and probably Ageuro.

Augero gets ONE more chance v West Brom.

Im really thinking about Benteke in for Giroud. But I know the attention needs to be for Carzola/Nasri.

    What to do?

Nasri is a pony right now, and carzola literally doesn't score me points ever!

Well, if you look on Arsenal fansites a lot of them think Sanchez is due a rest. For example:

          http://www.goonersworld.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=28981&start=15

I have no idea personally but Arsenal fans probably know better than me.

Citing some fanboys on an Arsenal blog and their preferred lineup for the weekend seems slightly inflammatory for grounds to saying "he might not even start." You could say that about basically anyone at any given week, but without any good foundation it is a little troublesome to me. Props for backing up your initial statement, though, so we can determine the validity of the source behind it.

The whole thread is full of it. Almost unanimously they think Sanchez gets a rest.

Maybe you don't know these sites but they are usually quite well informed. I think "he may not even start" is quite a reasonable comment under the circumstances.

I can usually predict Jose's team selections fairly accurately. By the same token, for Wenger's selections I think diehard Arsenal fans probably know better than you or I do.

Yeah it could get ugly in that one, but it's just such a lottery as to which Arsenal attacker will score big. Considerable risk to put it on Alexis, I think. That said, I still may. Really between him and Hazard for me at this point.

    3. Reedy
      • 13 Years

Yes, but it's picking the scorer.

If City score it will be Aguero.
If Spurs score it will be Kane.
If Saints score it will be Mane.

But if Arsenal score it could be through Sanchez, Ozil, Giroud, Cazorla etc. etc. ...

Evening lads. Woke up sweating over Aguero - not literally of course, that would be weird.

So, do we think a Bony - Dzeko axis vs West Brom, or Aguero to bounce back? If the latter, do you like a sneaky Foster > Guzan manoeuvre, or play Myhill.

    Thanks.

I have looked at Guzan, I have looked at Green.

It would be a -4 for me. And I have decided to play Myhill and keep my points.

One problem is GW33. Foster could be back, Guzan and Green have blanks. You could be left without a GK that week and need to use another transfer.

      1. Twisted Saltergater
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

True. I'd banked on Myhill still being played in GW 33 then do Guzan > Ospina for Arsenal's DGW 34, but now even that is further back to GW37. Maybe a FT save is in order.

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years

It's tricky. They are saying 4 weeks for Foster which could mean him being back for GW33. Impossible to know this far out.

My basic strategy has now reverted to keeping my transfers in my pocket unless I'm making a strategic move. 😉

I think I just want to have a bit of fun now. I was being a nuisance going on about Schlupp last week then bottled it at the 11th hour and went for the 'sensible' option in Bellerin. It's part a gut thing and part going with a very reasonable punt.

Same this week.... Citeh could be flat and Giroud/Costa/Benteke all look better options. On the flip side, Aguero will be wanting to make up for the pen miss and it would be a huge call by Pellegrini to bench Aguero.

            1. Ruth_NZ
              • 9 Years

Would be bad man management to drop him after a penalty miss.

But it will be back to 4-2-2-2 and that's not good for Aguero's prospects in my view.

          O hreally. Just realized that.

No sweat, I still think WC in DGW34 is big advantage. Easier for us to take punt on the likes of Mahrez/Schlupp if needed. Plus we might be able to keep our MCI players, who have AVL that GW.

Aye, I'm hoping, or else Gw37 would be the better use of it IMO. I'm holding until the Pool results and when their DGW will land, whichever GW they plan on I'll probably WC then.

Yeah good points, City and Pool both have great fixtures GW 34 onwards, would do with a triple Pool and double City by then perhaps

Yep, PVA looks obvious. But then Rose would be an excessive investment as 4th Def, while if i ditch Terry, i'd have 2.6 itb which will be good for my attack in future.

tbh honest I'm leaning towards ditching Rose (finally lol). anything can happen before CHE double. Not having Ivan could hurt, but I'll be pissed if I sell Rose and he does anything good 😆

            1. Zasa
              • 9 Years

I think Rose is cheap enough tbh, good attacking threat for a 4.8 player and good fixtures as well. Just on the basis that Rose is more guaranteed of starts, plays for a better team and may have more clean sheet potential edges it for me, IMO.
If you're not getting Costa until Gw34, maybe just keeping Terry until then isn't that bad idea and doubling up. Albeit, you'd have to head caution and make sure you gather 2 FT's at least Gw33 to do JT to Ivan and striker to Costa.

Tough one mate, a lot depends on what you could do with the extra cash from now until Gw34 tbh

    Morning everyone

    Panti / Hamer
    Kos Terry Rose Naughton Baird
    Silva Sterling Hazard Eriksen Boyd
    Augero Giroud Kane

    2 FT , 1.3 itb.

    A) Baird --> Alderwierled and save 1 FT , but then I will have 4 playable defenders :/
    B) Panti --> Forster and save 1 FT
    C) Sterling --> Ramsey/Ozil and save 1 FT
    D) Kos --> Alderweirled and save 1 FT , will have enough money to do Giroud --> Rooney next week.

    I need some help please!
    Thanks

I like A. Though I'd maybe consider doing Rose to Toby also and just letting Baird die as a fifth defender.

What about Sterling -> Mane ? this just crossed my mind.
I still have a WC which I'm planning to use for GW34.

        Thanks 🙂

I'm a little bit down on Mane compared to most others around these parts it seems, but I'd rather keep Sterling.

Problem is, I can't really take Rose out as I'm leading my cash league and my 2 rival have him. so i would rather keep him and maintain the same points rather than risk him having a haul once I transfer him out.. Logical?

Not too logical to me, mate. Spurs defense is rubbish, and I would argue that you would only stand to gain points on them by starting Toby while they start Rose in that same spot.

You are making some sense I guess, But it's Leicester at home.. which is worrying me!

Yeah I mean I may be overly pessimistic with my view on Spurs defense as a whole but I think Southampton home to Burnley is as good of a clean sheet banker you could find right now. And would be more confident holding a Soton defensive asset than a Spurs one regardless of how good Spurs fixtures may look. But that's just me, Cheers, and good luck with whatever you choose 🙂

Yeah might end up doing Sterling to Mane as I think i will be happy using 4 defenders and using the cash elsewhere, will probably end up getting Alder on WC

But do you think Panti is still a first choice keeper?

No idea. And I haven't listened from Dick yet. If he's not I still got Krul.

Armband Conundrum : With choices such as Aguero, Giroud, Kane, Hazard, Costa, Benteke, Mane etc, who are you putting your faith on and handing in the armband for GW30?

Will it be Aguero once again, or Kane against Leicester or will it be someone else ?

Was set on Foster -> Ospina, but since Arsenal doesn't have a DGW34,

    Hamer -> Myhill ?

In so doing you are really just giving yourself a second keeper transfer to do around GW35 when WBA's run in is ridiculous and you will need to make a change. I'd rather probably just pick one keeper, Ospina or whomever, and roll with them for the duration. The only problem is if you do Foster to Ospina and Foster is back in time for GW33 which will give you a blank GK spot for that week. Bit tricky.

I have the exact same keepers and have gotten in Myhill. I don't like making transfers for keeper so will just roll with the Brom keepers until the end of the season. Even if the run in is shite you really can't count out a TP team for a cleanie.

Bit confused guys. With Foster out injured & Pants being my 2nd GK I'm not sure who I should get to replace Foster. Thinking Guzan or Green. Thoughts?

You'll have to use another FT in a few weeks. That's my only issue with that move.
