With the previous Gameweek finally coming to its conclusion yesterday evening, we now take time to delve into the data. Amongst tonight’s topics are Chelsea’s stand-in striker and in-form wide man, the City midfield, Palace’s form players at both ends of the pitch and Villa and Arsenal’s clinical frontmen.

Anyone considering going without Kane from GW34 onwards? his fixtures are tough but will be a proper bold move considering his ownership. could squeeze in 2x DGWers in his place if play it right.

      It's bold, bordering on suicidal.

Ignoring the possibility he might still be one of the best point scorers in the game, there is the ~£6m price tag. Also, even ignoring all that, DGW teams have some issues with their forwards being injured (Costa, Sturridge).

I'd much rather be without Aguero which gives me many more options from a budget point of view.
Kane is scoring for fun most of the time.

    Last Man Standing

    Safety score = 53
    Players left = 84, players knocked out = 33
30% or bottom 26 out next GW.
Well done to those still standing 🙂

2FT's and 0.0 in the bank. Starting XI not finalised.

This is where the member's area season ticker is a lifesaver, despite the information being readily available elsewhere.

I'd start by looking at your 5 players without a game in GW 33.

If DGW34 confirmed for Liverpool, what would be your ideal front 3 for that DGW?

I'm looking at Studge Remy Kun

Oh no. The probable DGW news has started me thinking about not buying Kane. Again. Every week I've floated outside my FPL managers body and dug deep in the barrel to find an excuse not to get him.
    1k -> 30k has been the result.
Someone give me a vigorous virtual shoulder shake and a slap and tell me to finally get him this week and (c) too. Has to be captain, no point in finally getting him and not cheering him on yet again.
    What a fool I've been ... 🙂

Then he scores a brace. Again. I have absolutely no dullard in my blood at all and it drives me crazy because I've missed out on the best value FPL player of all time.
And yet, there's that nagging feeling that he's done. And Spurs are done.

Bit stumped, 2FT (rare for me), 0.5 in bank

    Pants, Krul
    Terry PVA Bertrand Clyne Hutton
    Hazard Sanchez Erikson Silva Cork
    Kane Austin Aguero

Will wait for news on Pool DGW but not sure what to do at the minute?

loving the double s'hamp! looks solid to me, and honestly there's not a lot i'd wanna change but with 2 FTs it's worthwhile looking forward to DGWs. see what news tomorrow brings and we'll talk then 🙂

    2FT, 5.4ITB

Thoughts on Austin -> Remy, Terry -> Clyne with my 2FT? Not sure on double chelsea defence in the next few, it hasn't been two good in the past 3 (no clean sheets).

my instinct is no. i like the double s'hamp defence but keep in mind chels have a DGW34 and s'hamp are home to spurs that wk so terry will easily outscore clyne. get rid of mane and be happy to see him leave!

Cheers mate. Yeah but I'll still have Ivan, and you can also use that argument to say that Remy will outscore Austin in DGW34 (assuming Costa won't be risked).

I'm confident Mane will return to the starting 11, I think he was benched simply due to international duty, and Hull at home is as good a fixture as any

that's the thing, i'd be v surprised to see remy play 180mins, but if he does then obviously i'd expect a healthy return. just too much uncertainty for me as of now.

re mane, the fixture is plum and i suppose his ownership being so low is a good thing. if it was his intl duty then fair enough, but it seems a recurring theme that he gets 30mins, i honestly don't know though. just had a look at it and tbh there's hardly any decent alternatives to him anyway so scrap my last comment!

i'd still hold terry though 😛

I'll just wait and see. Even though Drogba is there, 140ish mins in the DGW seems a decent possibility. I don't think Costa will be rushed back, he needs a few months away from football imo. As I said, I'll wait for more concrete news.

Yep. Int duty is the only explanation, I think he played 180 mins for Senegal and had a long flight.

Really? I'm really unsure on double chelsea defence. Would you get rid of Ivan instead?

ya it does seem probable in all fairness. i hope costa is out for season coz i've aguero in lots of top scorer multiple bets! then need kane to disappear off the planet 😛

i personally may not go with any chels DEFs but that's more because i don't currently have any and would find it hard to fit any in, rather than thinking they don't have potential. u just gotta weigh it up and that's the beauty of this game 😀 if it's a matter of which one to get rid of, that may depend on your team value and if you'll be looking to get sturridge in for liv's DGW. so much depending on the news tomorrow, i'm not even planning any transfer til then

                Hmm yeah.

                Fair enough.

I have so much ITB so keeping Ivan isn't a hinderance. That's probably what I'll do if I go ahead with the above move. Cheers mate.

Agree. The Mane love affair on these boards is hampering points from that spot. Hold the blues defenders and lose Mane for a player that plays on a team that scores.

just had a closer look, and going forward i can't see any alternatives to mane unless he actively gets some bench fodder to allow for domination in DGWs? henderson stands out for me but would want to see d news tomorrow

howdy fellas! anyone else going without a chels DEF for DGW?

    lots of negatives for me-

    1. lack of security apart from terry and ivan
    2. hefty pricetags on both of these for those of us already without either.
    3. 2 away games vs ars and a leicester side who are all guns blazing
    4. current defensive form

my only issue is that their run in is so juicy and even though the league might be finished early, i still imagine they'll be consumate professionals.

    thoughts?

I think going without is a risk but one I may take. It wouldn't be out of the question for Chelsea to get a CS in both games as I think they may play super defensive vs Arsenal

nice rank buddy! they might if ars have gained anymore ground in title race, BUT having the ability to keep out what for me is the most potent attack in the league is a different story. i'llprob chicken out and get ivan in due to his and terry's ownership. hazard obviously a staple, but nobody else worth it imo

      Congrats, amazing season!

Thanks! Great season due to a handful of high scoring weeks. I was bound to have had a good GW with Austin + Benteke! I think it is a really close decision as well between the 2.

It is difficult for me because I'm a villa fan so want to keep Benteke and I know how good he can be when on form but on the other hand I'm not sure how many chances we will be able to create for him vs Spurs.

With Austin Chelsea should be a tough fixture but I don't own any Chelsea defence so it would make sense to keep him.

All this before I even know who I will bring in 😀

Then if you want to win you have to look elsewhere.

During the WC I got up to 13th in the Fox game by the time of the semi finals...Everybody above me had the same team virtually. The only chance I had was to ditch the most highly owned, and best player, and risk it all with a player that nobody had who had a chance of good reruns.

          I did Muller > Ozil...

Needless to say I bombed, but at least I gave myself a chance.

2FT and £2.7m in the bank. Thinking about Austin>Remy, which would leave me £10.3m for a Cazorla replacement if I wanted to use both transfers. I do have my WC which I plan to use in GW35 to stock up on Arsenal/Liverpool players.

    Thoughts?

    Myhill
    Clyne Ivanovic Bellerin

I'm certain he would. I'm worried we'll lose him but I can't see him staying for another season. He is very similar to Carroll or Fellaini, and as such can add a very dangerous plan B to some of the fancy football played in the prem....In much the way LVG has Fellaini at his disposal.

    Naughton > Bertrand/Clyne a good move?

No...rubbish...You're in the same position as me...Bertie or Clyne won't get you higher. You need to gamble on them not doing quite as well as previously and look elsewhere.

This is poor logic, not owning a player with high ownership could hurt you even though owning them admittedly won't help your ranking rise massively. Players become template for a reason. Gambles on the other hand will likely hurt your OR over the course of a season.

It's not poor logic at all...A Soton pick inwards won't help anybody rise in the ranks at this stage....They are one of the worst picks for that. I have no doubt whatsoever that their defence is one of the best in the prem...if not the best....but it won't help us around the 10k-50k end up with a good finish...We'll just tread water at best.

What you are saying is partially true, but you are disregarding one thing. What do you think happens if you don't own Clyne and Bellerin and they keep 3 or 4 clean sheets in their next 5 games (great fixtures) and also chip in with a one or two goal/assists and a handful of bonus points?

            You drop through the rankings

Clyne or Bertie* I meant to say obviously

Anybody with a rank of 10-50 k at this stage is having a pretty poor season...all that will happen if we duck the Soton defence is that it will still be poor...or poorer...Benteke and Austin this week showed that the only way out of our mediocrity is to gamble.

Clyne and Bertie and co are for those who are already doing well, and they are great picks,....but not for those playing catch up.

It depends what your priorities are. If you are ranked 10-50k and you want to gamble to get into the top 5k, then sure you have to take some wild punts gambles. But you will fall down the rankings more often than you will rise IMO.

I'm 14k; if I wanted to have a shot at making top few thousand of course I would make some unorthodox moves. But personally, and I suspect for most people, my priority is my ML and winning bets with mates by making smart, if uninspiring moves. I expect to safely be in the top 10k by the end of the season, and win my bets, even if that means I have little chance of top 2-3k

I applaud you. ML's are a much better way of playing this game than OR.

Not sure whether that's sarcasm or not lol. But yeah I think we just have different priorities or ambitions you could say. Nothing wrong at all with going for it either and making shrewd gambles to give you a shot at a big jump.

I'm just saying sometimes people overlook the fact that NOT owning certain players is a risk itself. Say you make 3 or 4 differential transfers over the next few weeks to attempt to get top 5k...a couple might pay off, but if Clyne/Bellerin explode then that might negate the jump in OR you could have made.

Not sarcasm at all. My strongest part of FPL is playing in mini leagues....Some very good players in this and I have a bad score for the season...but I'm still on top...and my next move will be in respect of my next match, not OR

It's a different game all together if played properly...

Have to agree with Wakey here, if you don't have them now then don't bother. If it has to be S'ton then Toby but I'd be looking elsewhere - backing the dgwers, WHams Cresswell or Jenkinson, Trippier looks a shout, Jags, short term Fernandez.
Arsenal. Chelsea, Leic, Burnley maybe Newcastle or Villa would be my shortlist.

With that little information it's hard to answer.. On the face of it. yes of course swapping an injured player for a defender in a strong defence at home to Hull seems like a good move.

But it depends on the rest of your defence, the rest of your team, your plans for the DGW and number of Chelsea and Liverpool players. Generally IMO it's best to just post your team and all relavent info like £, number of FT, whether you have your WC etc

This...^....DGW players mat easily trump the hundreds of thousands of Soton picks...
