Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 32

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries now, with Chelsea’s concerns up front increasing after Loic Remy picked up a muscle problem in training yesterday.

Aston Villa
The injury worries continued in defence for Tim Sherwood after Ciaran Clark was forced off early on in the 1-0 win over Spurs. Sherwood is also sweating over the fitness of Gabby Agbonlahor up front, after the forward was also replaced at White Hart Lane. After the match, the Villa manager admitted the pair are likely to miss next weekend’s semi-final with Liverpool:

“Ciaran has come off with a knee ligament injury. He’s not had it before. It’s the first time this season we’ve had to name an unchanged team so it’s something we’re getting used to. Gabby’s tweaked his hamstring. It looks like (they will miss Sunday). It’s a real shame as it’s a massive day out.”

Chelsea
Loic Remy missed today’s trip to QPR after sustaining a muscle injury in training yesterday, Jose Mourinho has confirmed:

“Remy got a kick in training and the muscle is sore. We never cry or complain, we just trust the people on the pitch”

After the 1-0 win, the Blues boss was optimistic that the Frenchman will be back in time for next week’s home clash with United:

“Remy has a small injury. I think he should be available for the next game.”

Crystal Palace
Left-back Pape Souare was forced off early in the 4-1 win over Sunderland due to injury.

Everton
Leon Osman is set to be assessed after sustaining a groin injury during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw at Swansea yesterday lunchtime.

Manchester City
Reports suggest Vincent Kompany was withdrawn at half-time due to a thigh complaint in City’s loss at Old Trafford.

Manchester United
Michael Carrick was forced off towards the end of this afternoon’s derby win over City, with his withdrawal leaving the hosts with just ten men. Post-match, Louis van Gaal revealed:

“At the end, Michael Carrick needed to be changed but I could not substitute him. He was very wise to step out of the game with my permission. I hope he is not injured.”

QPR
Armand Traore was initially named amongst the subs today but withdrew from the squad after sustaining a knock during the pre-match warm-up.

Stoke
Victor Moses and Marc Wilson were both replaced during the Potters’ weekend draw at West Ham, with Mark Hughes confirming post-match:

“It looks like Victor has pulled his hamstring. It looks like it is in a strange position as it seems to be right behind his knee, which isn’t the normal position you usually get hamstring injuries. We will get it checked, it may be something that isn’t to do with the hamstring so it could be that we get good news. If it is a hamstring, then it could be that we lose him for a few weeks…Marc got a bang right on his hip, fair play to him he tried to go out for the second half and see if he could make it work. Sadly he couldn’t loosen it off and had to be forced off unfortunately.”

Swansea
Bafetimbi Gomis lasted just 17 minutes of Saturday’s early kick-off against Everton before limping off with a hamstring problem, Garry Monk has confirmed:

“Bafe felt a tightening of his hamstring. He will have a scan. Hopefully it’s not too serious because we don’t want to lose his quality, and we’re already quite thin on the ground.”

Fellow forward Nelson Oliveira missed out with a twisted ankle sustained in training.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce’s options up front could be somewhat limited heading into the weekend trip to City after both Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia picked up injuries in the weekend draw with Stoke. Post-match, the Hammers boss confirmed:

“Enner was never going to be able to play the full 90 minutes, but he got a kick as well and we’re hoping it won’t be enough to keep him out for next week, because Diafra will definitely be missing. If it’s a thigh strain, depending on what grade it is, it could two weeks or it could be him missing the rest of this season, but we will wait and see. That leaves us very short on the front line with Andy being out, and means goals will be fewer and farther between than they used to be, so if we don’t get that defensive side right then the last six games are going to be tough for us.”

Siggy or Eriksen out for a one week punt on Bolasie/Puncheon? Have 1FT and WC next week.

Probably Eriksen. Spurs have looked awful in the last two and Swans got Leicester.

Cheers for the replies. Would you prioritise that over bringing in a defender for a punt? As it stands I'm playing Clyne, Terry and Toby but I could punt on Dawson > Baines or similar and play them ahead of Toby.

I'm contemplating getting Baines for Dawson myself but not sure on whether to get over a mid or not. Same boat as you in other words.

Let me know what you decide! You reckon the Clyne stuff is anything to worry about? I'm expecting to see him back next week but haven't read up on the contract stuff

I have Clyne too and I'm keeping for sure.

For the moment I'm looking at Murray for Giroud then either Dawson to Baines or Sanchez to a mid as I mentioned 😉

Oh yes I'm definitely keeping Clyne, just not sure whether I need to be worried about minutes or if this was a routine rest. Dawson bench option isn't great.

I've already done Giroud to Murray with my first FT and it feels good.

Erik - hasnt done it in a few weeks. Siggy could do well (as well) this week as the palace lads. No stand out 'punt. this week really though.

I need to find 2 defensive punts this week for 10.1

What are your options? I don't think there are many stand outs in defence this week but Everton probably the best

current def is Terry/bell/PVA/Naughton/Clyne so getting Naughton and Bell out.

Maybe Jags and Toby or Warf and Toby?

Same position as me. I think I'm leaning towards keeping Eriksen and doing Dawson > Baines/Coleman/Jags. I have done Gru > Murray who should have involvement in Palace attack and the others share the spoils most weeks.

I picked Berahino over Murray and Remy this week. Fell a bit sick but then when i saw today it could have been a 0 instead of a 2 it softened the blow a bit. Good call on Murray

I'm not confident he will start tbh. Tempted by Bolasie, but then again I'm probably gonna have to bench him in 34 anyways so probably not worth it just for this week.

I'm selling for Bolasie..end of season, it's a 1 week punt before I WC..don't want to take any chances with Mane, especially given that there's no TANGIBLE benefit to keeping him since he hasn't been in crazy form and Soton don't score a lot anyways

More nailed on I feel. I think Nugent is competing with Kramaric (their record signing I think) and Vardy is in better form. Last week I had a quick look on the Leicester forums and they were all saying how Vardy (and Cambiasso) are their most important players for the run-in. Also, having the third most assists in the league was a big factor, although I know 4 were in one game.

I think that point was valid for letting Clichy off the hook early in the match..here it was a red card offense that he probably just had a bad view of and his lino, who had a better view, still didn't have a great one either..

he has to be sure with a red and I don't think he was sure

Yeah, because he was a brilliant referee.

Clattenburg sent off Kompany a couple of weeks back in the Belgium game. I imagine that had some bearing on his decision today.

Graham Poll is an English former football referee in the Premier League and is considered the best English referee of the last 25 years in a list maintained by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.

              Looks like you are right.

Howard Webb was a far superior referee.

He used excessive force and could easily have injured Blind given the force and height of foot - so it was a red card offence. Not too much debate to be had really.

Perhaps Clattenberg let the occasion get to him, but he was discussing with the linesman so he maybe he just didn't get a good enough view of it and opted for the safe yellow.

    A) Mata (che) (have feeling there will be a lot of goals)
    B) Lennon (BUR) (RM rotates a lot, but he should be nailed on, right?
    C) Bolasie (WBA) (most popular choice, little bit boring)

May take a hit if Gomis is out and will get Murray in that case.

    ...................Fabianski
    ....Terry - Baines - Alderweireld

    .......Rooney - Kane - Aguero(c)

    Krul; Boyd, Lescott, Wollscheid

Don't think it would tell you much. This is new "fun" Chelsea, meant to entertain their Russian overlords, as well as win things. They might actually play looser and score more.

Without trying to steal any sympathy from good old Doos, sadly it looks as if my time is coming to an end.

Two years trying to fend off a rare little swine of a cancer named Ocular Melanoma is almost up.

I lost an eye, had half my liver removed and then suffered metastatic spread almost everywhere. It has left me a shell of my former self when I was cycling many km a week come rain or shine.

To add insult to injury I've had a shocking season too.

So although the fat lady has yet to sing, she is going through her warmup and has her eyes fixed firmly upon me.

    Team for GW33. 2 FTs. What to do A, B, C?

    KRUL
    IVAN - Rose - Clyne
    ZAHA - HAZARD - SILVA - Eriksen - Siggy
    AGUERO - Kane

    Sub: Panti, Austin, PvA, Hutton

A: Austin -> Vardy (bur) and probably bench Eriksen … prepare for DGW of Leicester
B: Hutton -> Schlupp (bur) … in case Clyne doesn’t start ageing and also prepare for DGW
    C: Else?
