Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 32

A couple of players failed to make it past yesterday’s deadline extension and resultantly toppled off the Suspension Tightrope in the weekend’s round of fixtures. Both Neil Taylor and Victor Wanyama earned their tenth caution of the campaign and are now set to miss the next two Gameweeks as a result of their indiscretions.

Bearing in mind that Kyle Naughton is already ruled out through injury for the rest of the season, Taylor’s challenge on Aaron Lennon during Swansea’s home draw with Everton means Garry Monk will be devoid of both his first-choice full-backs against Leicester and Newcastle.

Wanyama received yellow for pulling back Sone Aluko during Southampton’s home win over Hull, with the Kenyan now set to miss a trip to Stoke and home encounter with Tottenham.

The Suspension Tightrope has now been extended to 15 yellows, easing worries for a number of players. Cesc Fabregas owners can now breathe a sigh of relief after he avoid incurring the referee’s wrath during Chelsea clash with QPR yesterday, whilst team-mate Nemanja Matic, Villa’s Ciaran Clark, QPR skipper Joey Barton, Stoke’s Phil Bardsley and West Ham centre-half Winston Reid also remain on nine yellows.

Elsewhere, Carlos Sanchez earned a one-match ban after being dismissed during Villa’s vital away win at Spurs. The midfielder will sit out next weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool and will therefore be available for the Gameweek 33 trip to City.

In terms of players still serving bans, Seb Larsson, Youssuf Mulumbu, David Meyler, Jonny Evans and Papiss Cisse all remain on the sidelines. Liverpool duo Martin Skrtel and Steven Gerrard, along with Newcastle’s Fabricio Coloccini, will all be available once this evening’s head-to-head at Anfield has passed.

    Is Lloris back this week?

    My current team is;

    Pantilimon
    Dann - Ivanovic - Bertrand
    Hazard - Bolasie - Silva - Eriksen
    Kane - Murray(C) - Aguero

Subs: Lloris - Walters - Hutton - Wasilewski

    5.7 million ITB

If Lloris isn't playing is it worth me bring another keeper in for Pantilimon? I'm using my WC next week so is it really worth it? Any other thoughts of changes?

I've seen you're going for Lennon yourself mate 😀 good luck with that!

How'd you rank the captaincy options between Aguero, Baines and Bolasie/Puncheon this week?

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years
          9 years, 25 days ago

          Puncheon is a good shout.
Bolasie scored his points last week, normal service probably will be resumed.
Baines is less good as a captain option without pens, I'd prefer Coleman actually.
Aguero's points in the week just gone are irrelevant as far as I'm concerned because City will be back to 4-2-2-2 and that hurts Aguero. He may score but a haul is unlikely and I'd prefer to captain Silva if I had both.

I had a 1 week punt and have gone with Lennon because he's nailed on, he's playing very well, his manager is encouraging to get into scoring positions, he has a point to prove and Everton are improving and have a juicy home fixture against Burnley. What's not to like? This weekend is a bit of a lottery in any case.

Based on Pellegrini's tactics recently, he has been going with 4-2-2-2 when on the offensive and 4-2-3-1 when on the defensive. Very likely that he reverts back to playing two strikers next week

Almost certain. Pellegrini is wedded to it except in big games. The loss of face involved in his benching Bony (who is expected to be fit again) would be considerable.

Aguero still gets shots away in 4-2-2-2 but not from the 6-12 yard and central positions where he scores almost all his goals from (including both goals yesterday).

He's a great player and can overcome that in any given game. But for FPL purposes he's just not so good an option when City play 4-2-2-2 in my view.

I wrote an article about it a couple of weeks back if you are interested.

Thanks for that. It is pretty worrying that Aguero on form could be wasted the way City are currently playing. At least the formation this week suited him. They still looked lacklustre overall. I hope somehow Pellegrini sees the light and keeps Bony on that bench!

You think that's impossible? Aguero in the last 6 weeks: 5,2,2,2,2 12. Average just over 4 points per game. Do I think that Baines can beat that at home to Burnley? Yes.

Yeah, I'm getting used to that kind of cr@p.

Let's just observe that in the last 4 weeks since Baines' return from injury he would have beaten Aguero's score 2 times, equalled it once and scored less once.

The idea that he might outscore Aguero this week therefore doesn't seem too wild. But I do understand that doubting "pet" players like Aguero, Sanchez and Kane is not generally popular and will draw words like "dumb" from people who haven't even thought about or analysed it.

I've analysed it and it's not a "dumb" idea, just a good punt that may come off. Did you compare the opposition in your analysis?

Rival has closed a 100 point gap on me in recent weeks. Mainly due to him going all out for the Benteke/Austin double in GW31. Thought I was home and hosed, but now I need to get GW33 right, and a good WC.

2FTs for a one week punt in 33.

    Davis
    Terry Bellerin Naughton Wollscheid Schlupp
    Hazard Sanchez Boyd Eriksen Mane
    Giroud Kane Aguero

Thinking of Naughton & Giroud > Baines & Murray. Anything better anyone can see?

Hmm, actually, with the cash in the bank, I can afford Boyd>Silva and Giroud>Murray. Tempting aswell. Slightly more defensive in my case than getting Baines, as I'm covering Silva. Will have a look at Baines' recent stats, as I do love getting Baines in.

Using him as a human punching bag in my mind. Man, did he screw me over one good. Wouldn't have gotten him, but was .3 away from Austin to Aguero and figured, what the hell, I'll go for it. Immediately after getting him in, I felt bad about it. Have a post here or there to prove my concern on that. So, now what to do? Feels like a boat with a hole in it, to be honest, but maybe I shouldn't panic and the boat can get me to shore if I give it a chance. Part of me just wants to scrap the boat and get another.

That's easy mate. Lennon. Good form and fixture.

Mata has good form but what will happen in the Chelsea-United game? Will United go for it and risk being picked off on the counter? Remy is very quick and will almost certainly be back.

A 0-0 would probably suit both teams to be honest and I am expecting a very tight game myself, even though Chelsea-United often has plenty of goals in it.

        Puncheon/Murray are on my radar.
Could punt on Baines I suppose.

One of my transfers this week will be to transfer out Giroud. I was tempted by Murray, Vardy and Nugent, and after checking out West Brom's and Swansea's defensive stats over the last six matches and checking out the three attackers attacking stats over the last six matches, there is a definite clear winner by a mile!

Bit of help needed please - lead my mini-league since GW 2 and have just been overtaken thanks to Clyne and Remy this week... Thus I feel the need to be proactive. Team:

    Fab/(Begovic)

    Schlupp, Iva, Clyne, (Hutton), (PVA)

    Hazard, Silva, Eriksen, Walters, (Sinclair)

    Kane, Rooney, Remy

    1FT, 3.3m ITB

Remy should be fit, keeping faith with spurs against a leaky newcastle. My question is: I'm planning double transfer for liverpool DGW (coutinho + moreno for hutton + Eriksen), do I stick with this (no subs effectively) to have 2 FTs or do I make a change this week and take the -4 next week?

Question 2: if I change, I'm thinking Sinclair for a Palace mid (2 decent home games next) so I have walters on the bench. Which palace mid? Bolasie, Puncheon or Jedinak (on set pieces...)?

    Thanks in advance!

I'd save and do the two transfers next week, I know it's hard considering you have just been overtaken but that's temporary - you should make up the points during the DGW

    sturridge

with a history of injury problems and injury prone declaring he wont be fully fit until next season, do u ecxpect him play the cup semifinal and then 3 matches in a week (if not injured by then)?

i really doubt rodgers will risk him

Do you think he will start one or both of the gameweek matches ? sterling maybe upfront vs hull giving sturridge a break?

I'm not super confident that Studge will start both (and I own him), but if he finds some form by then and Liverpool aren't any further away from Man City then I don't think Rodgers can afford to leave him out. QPR H would be a better time to rest him than two away matches

Can there be any logical reason for me going for a Palace mid over Silva?

am chasing 52 points to a Silva owner (who currently doesn't have Kun) but also has no Palace attacker (though I suspect he may do Austin to Murray this week 😆 )

Every week I don't have Silva I'm scared witless but I have no room for him on wc, so do I risk one more given he plays West Ham who are conceding bucket loads of chances.

Well, considering you are chasing and City aren't looking too hot... maybe it's worth a risk excluding them. They seem a bit complacent and Pellegrini should have one foot out the door if he knows what is good for him! 😉

I'm mainly bitter because I brought Aguero back. I don't have Silva but I have Clichy.. and I'd rather not. 😆

Was reading something on BBC Sport earlier that got me thinking.

We all remember what a bargain Michu was at the start of the season a couple of years back, and how things went downhill. But I wonder if maybe there could still be a future for him at Swansea.

Monk has said he will sit down with him at the end of the season and discuss things, and he will only have 12 months left on his contract.

Michu's best run came in the hole behind Graham, and he didn't seem quite as good with Bony. But things have changed at Swansea

Since the Januray window Monk has switched from a 4-4-1-1 to a 4-3-1-2 with the full backs expected to provide the width. He has tended to play Gomis and Routledge up top, but Routledge is hardly a centre-forward. So could there be a role up front for Michu in this new system, given the role behind the strikers belongs to Siggy. So, something like

    ______|______Flappy_____________

    Naughton, Fernandez, Williams, Naylor

    ________Shelvey, Cork, Ki__________

    ______________Siggy______________

    __________Gomis, Michu____________

SCAFC makes a great point, however, about how there is big worry over his game time. It is late in the season, however, and it's now or never for the team and he is one of the players they need the most. Plus, I think last time they had games so close, he played the full 90 or close to it in both games. There was an international break or something like that before that last quick turnaround, however, so that should be taken into consideration. I think it's probably worth it in the long run, but only just.
