Scout Picks

The Scout Picks – New for 2015/16

Having experimented with a new system for the Scout Picks last season, once again, we’re tweaking the setup for the forthcoming season – hopefully for the better.

We’re still giving you, the Fantasy Football Scout community, the opportunity to get involved and take on our lineup.

We have, however, decided to scrap the weekly vote which, at times, could sometimes result in spam comment posting and the occasional exploit.

Instead, we’re turning to a lottery to select a community member to select their picks in each Gameweek.

If you wish to submit a Scout Picks squad and be the community’s champion in the forthcoming Gameweek, you’ll need to submit your details via this form.

Twenty-four hours later we’ll announce the selected champion and he/she will then have until Thursday afternoon to submit their picks.

This will then go head-to-head with our squad, which will be selected using the old traditional method of argument and discussion behind the scenes – at which point I’ll put my foot down and pick Leighton Baines regardless. So there will only be one set of Scout Picks from us this season.

We’re also planning a couple of new articles, centred around the Scout Picks.

We’ll bring you a Provisional Scout Picks selection on Tuesday detailing our early thinking. This article will also be used to announce the community champion for that week.

We’re also planning a new ad-hoc article that will reveal some of the discussion and tension going on behind the scenes, as a way of letting you get a view of our own selection process and any particular dilemmas in a given Gameweek.

Then, on Friday, you’ll get the final Scout Picks from us and your champion.

We’re still offering a prize alongside this process. The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

How Do I Get Involved?

Would-be community “Champions” must put themselves forward by submitting their details on the Scout Picks Champion Entry form.

We will create a community article on Monday each week to announce that applications are open and link to the form.

An applicant will be chosen at random the following day and announced in our Provisional Picks article.

The successful community “Champion” must supply their final Scout Picks XI to Jonty (jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk) by 3pm on Thursday of that week. They have the option to tweak their Picks until 3pm on Friday.

Community Champions may seek the help and advice of others on the site once announced.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager”, chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

What do I need to do if I become the Community Champion?

You must select an Fantasy Premier League squad of 11 players in any valid FPL formation and using the regular FPL rules – eg: only three players per team permitted.

We will set a budget for your XI. Initially, this will be 82.5 and will increase as the season progresses and prices rise.

You may consult with the community in order to gain advice on building your Scout Picks for the Gameweek.

You do not need to submit any test to accompany your Picks but we may use a contribution should you wish to submit up to 200 words.

How Will the Scout Picks Be Scored?

We will total up the FPL points for both our Scout Picks and the community’s Picks.

No captain will be applied.

No chips will be applied.

Are there any other rules?

Yes there are. Plus, we reserve the right to make up some more along the way once we get started.

For now, we’re stipulating the following:

  • Community Champion Nominations must be registered users on Fantasy Football Scout and must not be under moderation at the time.
  • Scout Picks cannot be posted as a nomination on behalf of another user.
  • Nominees must be willing to supply a valid email address for contact throughout the selection process.
  • Any nominee or Champion voted by the community, who is later put under moderation, will not be considered for that Gameweek.
  • We reserve the right to change and overrule the selection of the chosen Community Champion at anytime.

We are now accepting applications for Gameweek 1 so head over to the entry form if you fancy getting your name in the hat.

You have until 2pm on Tuesday to get your application submitted.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

No goal from Wally, so he's getting traded for Ozil today, like I promised. Now, which one of these should I upgrade? Fletcher to Sinclair? Butland to Pants? (and if so, keep PVA or get someone else - who? - in at 5?) Or Pelle to Tekkers? (less tempted to do that now since it looks like he won't play initially) So many questions...

    Ruddy | Butland
    Azpi | Darmian | Clyne | PVA | 4.0 (Baker)
    Sterling | Ozil | Haz | Ritchie | 4.5 (Fletcher)
    Pelle | Rooney | Sakho

Fletcher-->Sinclair is good. Means you can rotate him, Ritchie and PVA

No ShawX might = at least offensive returns for L'pool. I'm still picking them to lose @ Stoke, hence benching Clyne.

Ozil. Basically, with nothing between them as far as I'm concerned, I made a call: if Wally had scored in the 2nd half yesterday, I was keeping him. If not, Ozil. So...Ozil 🙂

Right now on Walcott but i'm still pondering on it. It would be easier to swap to Sterling if i wanted to it(unless i start with Sterling too but that'd be only if Kun is 100% ruled out). So either Theo or Mesut.

Roughly, how many different players are being considered in the RMTs on FFS??

    50, 100, 200?

I still don't think it's enough, hopefully the season will see more being considered as viable options....

That's more because of herd behaviour than anything else. 🙁 Doesn't mean there aren't other good options.

Take GKs. Mostly you will see Ruddy/Butland/Schmeichel and Hennessey as a 4.0 in RMTs because it's fashionable. But there are other very good options.

Fabianski/Schmeichel is a good (perfect) rotation pair. So is Stekelenburg/Ruddy, another perfect pair. Cech/Hennessey is a good shout. All of those are 9.5 rather than 9.0 but stand a good chance of delivering the extra 0.5 in value.

At 9.0, Myhill can be coupled happily with Schmeichel or Ruddy for very feasible rotations. Marshall may arrive but that would bring Myhill/Marshall on to the table. In addition, other 4.5 GKs (like Krul) could come on the scene after Newcastle's fixtures ease.

There are probably at least 10 or 12 good GK picks. The fact that RMTs on here predominately feature 4 of them is a combination of fashionability and people constantly telling each other to spend less on their GKs.

In other areas there are also some excellent picks with little favour on here or elsewhere. In defence, Martin and Olsson of Norwich. Lescott and Chester of WBA, Williams and Fernandez of Swansea, Tomkins and Jenkinson of West Ham, Soares of Southampton, Coates of Sunderland, Bacuna of Villa. In the midfield, Eriksen, Sinclair, Lens, Sigurdsson, Coutinho, Puncheon, Willian, Albrighton, Cabella, Atsu, Ayew to name just a few. Upfront Gomis, Bamford, Mitrovic, Vardy, Diouf, Gestede, Lukaku.

That's 35 non-template selections I have named just off the top of my head. There may be a few of those that aren't ideal for GW1 because of early fixtures or injuries but all of them are capable of delivering good value for their price tags over a period of 10 or 12 games.

The fault is not at FPL, they have evidently compressed pricing to bring more variation into play and at the same time have priced the top premium options protectively. If there is a fault it is that few people on here want to have a team much different to anyone else and having a "template" selection is seen by many as a badge of honour.

    Hello guys
    Need some help.
    Fab/Schmeichel
    Fonte/Clyne/Azp/Huth/OShea
    Sig/Sterling/Hender/Fab/Brady
    Kane/Benteke/Pelle
I prefer having more players I trust on than having only 11, but I would really like to stick Hazard in here. I also have doubts with my double in leicester's def and Oshea with new defenders getting in.
    Any thoughts?

      Oshea is a massive risk
Bench Clyne for gw 1 and play huth

Solid forward line but I would take sakho > Benteke (more reliable starter) and upgrade Sig to Arsenal mid and upgrade fonte to koscielney or mert

Part of me is tempted to go via the cheap route Ruddy/Rudd but not sure if that is the best option.

I also like the idea of getting Cech along side a 4.0 and just playing him every week.

Or is it best to go for a rotating pair?

Demi, mate you're the line-up master...
So, where do you feel is the best resource to find *probable* week one line-ups.

Been on TeamTalk & then a few preseason articles on Squawka but, anywhere else you could recommend?

      Side Note:
Curious about 4.5mil options in the Sun & Stk backlines inparticular...

Also, wondering about Anya's status at Wat.
He managed 5 of 7 starts & was also in the 1st team in the last match but, are there still doubts?

      1. Demí
        • 13 Years

Here's usually a decent place according to some people on here. Predicted lineups should be out by Thursday and there will be a tab up for it, replacing the pre-season tab either tonight/tomorrow.

I think Muniesa is the safest 4.5 stoke defeneder, but hesitate to call him nailed on. Although he will be if Shawcross remains sidelined by a back problem.

I think Coates is the safest 4.5m def, and people also seem to believe O'shea will fight it out with Kaboul for the other CB spot. Jones could start over Mathews at RB, but they'll be in competition, so wouldn't call either nailed. Think Coates and Muniesa are your best bets.

I think there are. Read that he could start week 1, with doubts over the fitness of the new signings. But those new signings mean Anya will be resigned to a bench role for the most part. That's the impression i get anyway!

        Hope that helps

RMT Please - would appreciate any feedback

    Ruddy / Butland
    Azpilicueta / Williams / Francis / Huth / Richards
    Sterling / Hazard / Ozil / Milner / Sinclair
    Rooney / Benteke / Sakho

    0.0m itb

Can't decide between the above or replacing Hazard and Benteke with Costa and Mane and £1m itb - could use to upgrade Williams to Kos or save? Any thoughts?

    Thanks very much

Personally, Hazard and Benteke as a duo will (theoretically) be more prolific this season in my opinion.

If I might suggest - just don't spend so much on your forwards. Make your midfield stronger, to cope.

How much time do we think Walcott and Giroud will split up top? Is Walcott still going to slot in on the wing on occasions when Giroud starts?

I agree Walcott is a must have IF he is playing up front, but I don't want to get stuck with a player sharing minutes until one of them wins the job.

I would be interested in hearing other people's thoughts on this.

I think they are definitely sharing minutes. Reckon the OOP of Walcott swings it though

      plus arsenal score enough goals

think im going to select Walcott and see what happens. As I would be more annoyed if I missed his points then if I didn't get him

      1. O Fenomeno
        • 8 Years

Yeah the sharing minutes thing worries me, only going to get 60-70 mins to influence the game, but the OOP factor definitely makes Walcott very tempting.

        Decisions, decisions...

if it was me I would go Giroud up front with Walcott on the r/h/s. Walcott pulls defenders out of position leaving space for Giroud. Then again, i'm no Wenger but this is what I would do and bench the Ox, bringing him on late on in the game 70mins or so.

I agree, Giroud up front with Walcott on the right utilizes the players best, but I wonder if Walcott got some promises to play up front with this new mega deal.

Alot of people are wondering the same thing - I'm going in GW1 with both as I know Asernal have a very good record against W Ham at home....

Does anyone have any historic stats for Giroud / Walcott against W Ham though as this may swing things???

I've loaded up on both tbh, Giroud, Caz and Mertesacker, Aguero, yaya, Silva and Sterling. A bit risky but those are the teams I see scoring most goals.

BR liked gomez in pre-season and he probs wants to start well defensively so will be looking to be strong defensively and moreno is too attacking so he wont start first game then good performances could keep gomez in the side
