Treatment Table – Gameweek 5

League leaders Man City have plenty to fret over this weekend, with Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Raheem Sterling all doubtful for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Juventus. There’s worries in the red half of Manchester, too, after Wayne Rooney missed the 3-1 win over Liverpool with a hamstring complaint. Here’s our regular round-up of all the fresh arrivals onto the treatment table…

Crystal Palace

Damien Delaney is carrying a knock so was replaced by Brede Hangeland in the starting lineup against Manchester City, while Jason Puncheon was withdrawn at the 83-minute mark with a knock following a foul by Eliaquim Mangala.

Everton

Seamus Coleman and Muhamed Besic both sustained suspected hamstring injuries during Everton’s 3-1 win over Chelsea. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We’ll have to assess Seamus and Mo and see how they are. But the important thing was that everyone who had to be alert and come on to the pitch was fully focused and I think the strength in the squad is starting to show now. Having those numbers helps you be consistent over the course of the season and clearly it showed today.”

Manchester City

Sergio Aguero was forced off at the 25-minute mark during Manchester City’s trip to Crystal Palace, having taken a strong blow to the knee from a crude challenge from Palace’s Scott Dann. Sky Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini implied that the Argentina international will be touch-and-go for their midweek Champions League tie against Juventus:

“It was an important kick on his knee. We’ll see if he can recover between now and Tuesday. It’s very difficult to say now. It’s important to see how he recovers. We’ll see.”

Aguero, meanwhile, took to Twitter last night to play down the seriousness of his withdrawal:

“Thanks everyone for your concern. I got a hard hit and it prevented me from playing more. It doesn’t seem to be a serious injury though.”

Earlier this evening, he gave another update on his condition:

“I had studies done today, to be completed tomorrow. We’ll have a clearer picture then”.

David Silva was ruled out of the Eagles clash by virtue of an ankle complaint, but Pellegrini is optimstic he’ll recover in time to face Juventus on Tuesday:

“Silva is out as I think it would be a risk for him to take another knock on his ankle. I hope he will be OK for Juventus.”

As for Raheem Sterling, the former Liverpool starlet is expected to shake of a minor hamstring injury:

“Raheem has a problem with his hamstring so I think it was a risk for him to play today. I hope he is 100% fit for Tuesday.”

Manchester United

Wayne Rooney was sidelined for the Red Devils’ 3-1 victory over Liverpool after suffering a hamstring problem in training. He is expected to miss their midweek tie against PSV Eindhoven, but Louis van Gaal believes he could be passed fit for their trip to Southampton next weekend:

“He is injured so we have to take care of him. I think he is very important for us and I don’t to take any risks so that’s why he doesn’t play today. I don’t think he will play against PSV Eindhoven, but maybe he shall play at Southampton. We have to wait and see if he can play against PSV because we still have three days to go.”

Stoke City

Jonathan Walters was not included in the Potters’ matchday squad at Arsenal due to a flare-up of his knee injury. Mark Hughes admitted that the Ireland international will undergo a scan in the coming days.

Tottenham

Nabil Bentaleb missed out against the Black Cats with an ankle injury and is expected to be ruled out for three to four weeks having suffered ligament damage.

Ryan Mason was involved in a heavy collision with Sunderland keeper Costel Pantilimon while he scored the winning goal. Mauricio Pochettino revealed after the match that Mason will undergo checks on Monday:

“We will assess Mason tomorrow. It was a big knock on the knee. It was a great goal and we showed how we try to play.”

West Bromwich Albion

Jonny Evans was taken off after 85 minutes against Southampton, although Tony Pulis later said that the new arrival likely just suffered cramping.

Actually tempted by Mata, seems with all the departures from Man Utd that the No.10 role or at least a starting place is almost guaranteed for him, on set plays as well.

        Other consideration is Pedro.

        I already have Sanchez.

Have you considered not spending big? There are quite a few cheaper options out there that can do the business.

Otherwise how about ADM? Looked lively.

Yeah he seemed decent, although I doubt he'll hold the no.10 role when Silva is back, and not sure he'll do as well as a wide player, adjusting to a new team

If someone doesn't challenge City for this league soon, we will see rotation as the order of the day with that squad-could be quite frustrating if this happens.

      And this week-

Man C home to West Ham. Yes they played well away but still a 3-0 for me
Man u getting better but away to an improvingly tight SOT
      Chelsea vs Arsenal. Who knows?

      Could easily extend that lead

Think that's a long way off yet. Only 5 points in it still, very early on in the season. Unlikely that Arsenal or United will seriously challenge them but still not time to start worrying about rotation because of the league for me.

        Agree but who will challenge?
        Chelsea ???
They could walk this, as you say Arsenal may struggle to challenge and unless Martiall is the real deal United will too.
Double city def could be the way to go.

Did you see Skrtel getting skinned by Martial!? I'm a Liverpool fan, and I've no idea why anyone thinks our Slovak is a good defender!

😀 true. I think Skrtel is the kind of defender that needs to be covered by a more conservative, solid fella. Lovren isn't that guy. There are no brains in the Liverpool defence at the moment.

no one thinks he is a good defender though.

he has only been good when paired when a better defender than him, e.g carragher but when he is with Lovren his shoddiness shines through

              I think you're right.

My fellow Reds always argue with me when I state he's not our best defender.

I grant you it's a tough award to hand out, but I argue that Sakho is much better than him and should be starting instead.

    Pre-season:

    The Good:

Was bleating on to anyone that would listen that Romelu Lukaku was a great option at 8.0m, seen as a troll to many (with good reason) i argued that with penalties now in his locker, nailed on up top and with harder fixtures (his favorite) he offered a great plug and play option - so it seems that has worked out relatively well so far. I also spent a lot of time singing Hector Bellerin's praises and he too seems a fantastic option and has banished Debuchy to the world of Flamini and Arteta as i expected.

    The Bad:

I also talked up Harry Kane (at scout camp too) suggesting i see no reason why he wont continue to score a shed load of goals and the casuals will have one up on us, i didn't think he would maintain his unsustainable form but even a 20% drop off i thought would still make him a great option yet here we are 5 games in and hes yet to register more than 2 points..... shocking.

    The Ugly:

Backing Sunderland defence in all my fantasy teams was extremely ugly, so convinced was I after Sunderland's impressive tally last season, their good fixtures and Dick's penchant for defensive minded teams that i even forked out for PVA convinced he was worth the extra outlay due to his attacking promise. This obviously was a massive failure and has caused me to majorly reshuffle in all Sky and FPL. Yuck.

Of course things could yet still change but im interested to know what your Good, Bad and Ugly points are from pre-season...

Nothing good, Cedric, Koscielny and Ward could be considered good-ish pre-season predictions.

      Ugly: Ruddy. Completely useless.

The good: Very, very little. I was saying all pre-season, in the face of "Hazard is essential", that he would not replicate last season's haul and that the money would be much better spent elsewhere. I said the same with Kane, I predicted him to struggle; the problem is that I have failed with the redistribution of the funds. Wilson has been great, Benteke has been a bit of a success I suppose, and 3 consecutive CS means I was right to jump on Arsenal's defence. The issue is that I chose Mertesacker...

The bad: Where to start? Huge faith in Sanchez and Aguero, failure to latch onto Utd and Liverpool's defence at the start, starting with 2 Chelsea, missing out on Gomis and Ayew, not getting Mahrez until week 3, starting with Rooney - the whole thing has been a bit of a mess.

      The ugly: Rooney.

    8. Puyol Pants Up

Good: Well, I thought Mahrez was a great option and advised lots of people to get him pre-season but I didn't have the balls to pick him myself.

Bad: I talked up Fabregas alot during pre-season and said he was going to have a flying start this season, boy was I wrong 😛

Ugly: Yaya was in my pre-season team for 90% of the time, after I was happy with my team prior to the start of the season I found myself with 0.5 ITB. I felt that I had to use the money somewhere and used it to upgrade Yaya to Sterling (thanks to the amazing advice on here 😛 ). My season would be in a lot better shape if I stuck with Yaya.

The Good: Top 10k-ish, had Barclay, Kolarov and a few others who are coming good from the off. On 72 this week with Sakho to play. 🙂

The Bad: Kept Barclay and Kolarov on the bench on and off for the first few gameweeks costing me a shedload of points.

The Ugly: Once again fell for some pre-season hype with Depay and a couple of others, thankfully having a strong squad rather than splashing out on Hazzard, Aguero etc has saved me to a large extent!

      The Good:

I too was singing the praises of Lukaku in preseason, including a hot topic on him. Also, I explained why Azpi is the best pick of the Chelsea defence and why Ivanovic 'always scoring in the first few weeks' was a load of rubbish. I also was a strong advocate of Westwood as a 5th mid on set pieces, compared to the high-ownership Wanyama (who has already fallen in price).

      The Bad:

Picking Hazard. I was set on going without him but his high ownership scared me so I got him in. Also, opting for a cheaper rotating defence... It worked out terribly.

      The Ugly:

Starting with double Sunderland defence. That was the straw that broke the camel's back when it came to playing my wildcard early.

Bad: Signing up for FPL this season

      Ugly: Pretty much everything........grim

      The Good:

      Choosing Myhill over Panti
Selling Ivan GW1 replacing with Azpi
      Selling Azpi after his goal
Wilcarding a week early GW3 looks to have saved my season re TV and two decent post w/c gameweeks

      The Bad:

      Rooney
      Depay
      Walcott
      Ritchie etc

      The Ugly:

Actually my main ugly is concern Dream Team. I started Smalling, Depay and Rooney with the two Champs league qualifiers offering extra points with cash in he bank for Rooney>Kun with my emergency transfer. Rooney was so poor in the league I sold him a week early and got Kun in for the Everton fixture as he had already scored vs Chelsea and I couldn't see Rooney scoring away to Bruge.... The rest you know!

Good - starting with Kolarov, avoiding Hazard

Bad - doubling up on Arsenal attack

Ugly - last minute decision of Yaya> Depay. My season won't recover.

Good: Mahrez from the start. Just wish I'd had the balls to stick the armband on him, didn't even do it this week!

      Bad: Mr Rooney.

Ugly: I still have Coates stinking up my team.

      The Good:

Mahrez. What a pick he turned out to be! Ermmmm. I think that's all she wrote!

      The Bad:

Needing a GW3 WC with a rank of 1.5m. Wanting Ayew to replace Walcott but resisting buying him as an FT until after the GW2 deadline in order to give Walcott a shot at redemption (losing 5 pts in the process).

      The Ugly:

A litany of C fails (1,2,2,2,1). Going back to Kane this weekend when I thought Diouf would be out. A history of players who look good on paper but haven't so much as even delivered an assist in my team and got sold to avoid price drops. I could go on...

The Good - I played my wildcard so can stop worrying about that now.
The Bad - 25 pts for the GW.
The Ugly - Chose not to go for Mahrez in the wildcard selection "his form can't last, it's Leicester for God's sake" i told myself.

Good:............... um............ well, at least I've still got my wildcard. Oh, and briefly Scott Sinclair was good.

Bad: PVA, Ivanovic, Aguero, Fabregas.... You want me to name my entire GW1 squad?

Ugly: Having Ighalo as pretty much my only goalscorer only to leave him on the bench for his goals. Haven't even had a price rise out of him.

The good: playing all out attack gw1. Defo gzve me an extra 5 points. Also surprisingly target. Got more from him then I expected

The bad: hazard and Rooney. I actually put money on Rooney to be top goal scorer this season

The ugly: Walcott, made him captain gw1 only to lose a ton of value. Seeing him starting games and scoring goals makes it worse now

With horrible fixtures too. I've been a staunch advocate of his. I like the man. He's a good man manager. And does have tactical awareness - despite the willingness to forgo a little 'boot it and run' from defensive positions, in favour of a play at all costs attitude.

Think we've shown this season that there's a depth to the squad too.

Without looking at stats, I'd say because they all seem to sit back in a low block which prevents the opposition from shooting often and creating chances, thus not allowing many CBIs. They also are not very attacking and aren't known for their possession.

He played an outstanding game. Almost everything went through him. Two assists to turn the game around beats one goal and lose. Second goal for LEI he basically made it happen beating 3 defenders in the center and laying the ball to the side.

Regardless of whether Aguero is fit - it was only a knock - so not likely to be out for long. I'd 100% get Kolarov as soon as you can.

      I would say so, yes.
Of course it depends entirely on whether Aguero is fit however.

Anyone else notice the high goal threat of a certain WBA defender? right up there with the best attacking defenders in the league. Think it's time i swap Huth out for him

On a side note: Anyone notice that Kompany's BPS with a CS has been 20/17 and 10 the last 3 games? really needs a goal to get a look in at BAPS at the moment

would that be a certain northern Irishman who've been known to provide attacking returns in previous seasons?

Mahrez away to stoke next GW. (C) Anyone? Leaning towards it as I don't really see a much better option in my team. Front 8 of Westwood/Sanchez/KDB/Ayew/Mahrez/Wilson/Kun/Gomis

Swansea in form, but Everton look very solid as well. Uncertainty hanging over Aguero and he's not exactly in form anyway.. Think I'm just gonna do it

The obvious choices have been a massive fail. Risky (c) picks have paid dividends. I'm thinking Kolarov this week.

Prefer Kolorov at home to the Whammers.

There is a feeling within Anfield it just a matter of time before a quality group of players click – Chris Bascombe, The Daily Telegraph

I know.. Shocking. Think this has most definitely been my downfall.
What do you recommend? Defender, Ayew or Gomis?

With 2FT, you could look at something along the lines of:

          Azpi > Naughton/Williams

          Shaqiri > Ayew

So I only need 17 points from Payet in order to win my head to heads. Should be straightforward enough. A crap gameweek.

    Here's my team. 1ft & 1.6itb

    Butland (McCarthy)
    Kolorov, Shaw, Gomez (Williams, Richards)
    Sanchez, YYT, Ayew, Mahrez (Redmond)
    Aguero, Gomis, Diouf

I'm thinking Butland out, Myhill in as he's raking in the points lately. Myhill = 30 pts / Butland = 15

    Thoughts appreciated & thanks.

As long as Payet gets a goal and an assist minimum from it I don't mind.
