The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 7 – The Forwards

With Gameweek 7 just around the corner, our final look at our updated Watchlist rankings, which offer player recommendations for the next four-to-six Gameweeks, sees us break down the latest movements among the forwards. Anthony Martial comes straight in towards the top of our ladder after his sensational start to life at Old Trafford, while Odion Ighalo’s form for Watford brings one of this season’s surprise packages into our thoughts.

With Manchester City’s upcoming fixtures (tot, NEW, BOU, mun, NOR, avl) still very favourable, and on the back of a goal and an assist in his last two appearances in all competitions, Sergio Aguero keeps his place on top of our rankings. The Argentine, who sets us back 13.2 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), has failed to live up to his price tag so far this season, but it’s hard to back against last season’s top goalscorer given City’s schedule.

Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson netted his fifth goal of the campaign in the 2-0 win against Sunderland last time out, and while the Cherries forthcoming fixtures (sto, WAT, mci, TOT, sot, NEW) offer some tricky match-ups, particularly on the road, it’s hard to argue against the value offered by the 6.0-priced forward. The former Coventry striker now has an ownership of 29.9% in FPL.

Another riser this week is Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, who scored for the third consecutive match in the 2-2 draw against Stoke. The England international has now only failed to produce attacking points in one of his six appearances this season, and with the Foxes fixture list (ARS, nor, sot, CPL, wba, WAT) still pretty reasonable, the 6.2-valued frontman should continue to offer excellent value.

Few Fantasy managers could have predicted the instant impact Anthony Martial would make in English football. The former Monaco forward has scored three goals in his two league appearances, and also found the back of the net in a 20-minute cameo appearance against Ipswich last night. While he has only registered four goal attempts in his two outings, and five penalty box touches, the France international looks to have incredible poise in front of goal, and despite some mixed fixtures for Man United over the coming period, it’s no surprise that he’s been transferred in by over 454,000 FPL bosses so far this week, seeing his price rise to 8.3. The 19-year-old also leads this week’s Captain Poll ahead of the plum home fixture against Sunderland with 32% of the vote.

Having failed to produce attacking returns over the last two Gameweeks, Swansea’s Bafetimbi Gomis falls a couple of spots on our ladder. The 7.4-rated did manage six goal attempts over the same period, however, and still looks a solid option with the Welsh outfit facing a reasonable stretch in their schedule (sot, TOT, STO, avl, ARS, nor) over the next six Gameweeks. The former Lyon hitman has clearly been one of the main fall guys for the Martial bandwagon, though, with 94,000+ shedding the France international so far this week.

Following his brace against Newcastle, Watford’s Odion Ighalo is now amazingly the second highest scoring forward in FPL this season with 34 points. The Hornets striker, who carries a bargain price tag of 5.1 in FPL, lies joint-second among forwards over the last two Gameweeks for goal attempts (eight), and has a strong run of fixtures (CPL, bou, ARS, sto, WHM, lei) over the next month to continue his rich vein of form. The Nigeria international’s ownership still stands at just 4.0% in FPL.

Third on the list of the highest scoring forwards is Southampton’s Graziano Pelle, and the Italian is another riser in our latest update on the back of his 13-point haul against Man United. The 7.9-priced striker does have a slight foot injury to contend with at the moment, but provided he can shake that off, the upcoming fixtures for the Saints (SWA, che, LEI, liv, BOU, sun) are generally pretty favourable.

According to our Season Ticker, West Ham have the most favourable fixtures (NOR, sun, cpl, CHE, wat, EVE) over the next six Gameweeks, so Diafra Sakho remains a great option for Fantasy managers in the mid-price bracket. The 6.5-valued forward scored his second goal of the season in the Hammers impressive 2-1 win at the Etihad, although the fact he hasn’t scored in any of the favourable home match-ups against Leicester, Bournemouth and Newcastle is a slight concern.

By virtue of West Brom’s kind run of fixtures (EVE, cpl, SUN, nor, LEI) over the coming weeks, Salomon Rondon remains in our thoughts despite blanking over the last two Gameweeks. With an ownership of just 0.9% in FPL, the Venezuela international definitely offers a great option as a differential, but with the Baggies scoring just four goals so far this season, he looks a tad expensive at 7.0 compared to the likes of Wilson and Vardy, who star in more attack-minded sides.

Another forward who looks a great value option is Stoke’s Bojan, who only sets us back 5.3 in FPL. The former Barcelona attacker scored on his first start of the season in the 2-2 draw against Leicester, playing in the number ten role for the Potters. While he may still be building up his match fitness, the Spain international looks worthy of some consideration given the fixtures (BOU, avl, swa, WAT, new) Mark Hughes’ men face over the coming period.

Although he has blanked over his last four appearances, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku clings onto a place in our rankings, having attempted nine goal attempts over the last two Gameweeks, the most among forwards along with Pelle and Vardy. The Toffees forthcoming fixtures (wba, LIV, MUN, ars, SUN, whm) are still pretty testing though, so the 8.2-priced Belgian is probably unlikely to attract much investment until the schedule turns from Gameweek 11 onwards.

Harry Kane finds a place at the bottom of our refresh. Despite failing to find the net in the first six Gameweek, the Spurs hit man sits second for total attempts (21) amongst forwards so far, though clashes against City, Swansea, Liverpool and Arsenal in the next six are likely to deter most from considering his services.

You should captain Rondon. Everton won't be able to deal with his physicality.

Ye looks, my only issue is will rondon be less effective then berahino and is berahino better value at 6.2 and on pens, food for thought. Be interesting to see stats of rondon while playing with berahino...

Martial is the first player I've seen that has risen in price three times in a week.

FPL Statistic's now has him on a target number of 18.7, obviously he will not rise in price if it reaches 100.0 by tomorrow night, but what if he reaches 99.9. Will he start the next game week on that target, or will he be reset to 0 at the start of GW7 ?.

Arsenal have been creating the most chances this term . However , their shooting has been horrible with an shot conversion of less than 3% 😳 . But it is probable that they will start to 'click' but is Sanchez worth his price tag ? If not , which Arsenal mid have you been eyeing ? Or do you feel that Arsenal with their numerous midfielders will share the goals and assists and no one player will get you the points ? I currently have Cazorla in my team and I am quite happy with him . I got him at 8.3m , so I did not have to endure his price drops . His creating stats are just behind Ozil but has more Shots and SOT . Plus he is on pens . I feel that he is the safest and most consistent option into the Arsenal midfield . What do you think?

Well he will most probably end up with the most assists in the Arsenal team , but it is the goal threat which concerned me when I played my WC in GW 4 and I felt that Cazorla on pens is better than Ozil.

I think Sanchez is the one.

I am having a short-term punt on Walcott(c) this week because it's one of the few favourable fixtures I feel sure he'll start in (because of his rest last night, and Giroud continuing to be Giroud). Fancy him against Leicester's slow centrebacks.

His purple patch last season was when he drifted inside a lot due to Ozil's absence. Can't see him putting together a run like that without injuries. He's more likely to be blank, blank, blank, 15 pts, blank, blank. He's also terrible at BPS system so will need multiple returns compared to Ozil/Caz that can get baps with just an assist

First of all ,why the example of Liverpool?

Second of all , what I am trying to say is that he delivers against the so called smaller teams at home . Against tougher oppositions he has not been very successful.

Plenty of clutch goals against big teams is my point.

Depending what you consider 'tougher' opposition than he would only have 7-8 games to score. So naturally, he will have more goals in the other 30 games given he has only played one season.

In fact, I despise the whole term "flat track bully". The big hauls just are always likely to come against weaker sides.

E.g Sancehz, last season, 3 goals against top opponents (City, liverpool, Soton), the rest, and all the big hauls, against weaklings. But you will find a similar statistic for every player who scores a lot of goals.

If you take the top 7 sides , 3 goals in around 14 matches (not considering injuries) is poor

Is it just 12. Ok. Yeah, 3 is still not grand. But it's one season only. You look back just at his last season for Barca, and there are goals against Real Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia, Atletico, Malaga...

And yet, 6 in 12 for a CF of the most dominant team, 3 in 12 for the winger of a slightly less dominant. Is that so much more of a flat track bully? Of course, those 4 goals against Spurs in one match still speak of a potential to score big haul against anybody. That's something Sanchez has not shown.

                    13, he missed Spurs away.

Hmm.. you're right in that Aguero actually had a great record against top7 clubs last season. Not only because of scoring 5 against Spurs. Also 6 against the other 6. So, he actually gets big hauls against relatively big clubs. I think ManU too, didn't he once?

But is there anybody else? And I could bet that in a larger sample than just one season, Aguero has scored significantly more against weak opponents than strong ones. That applies even to Messi.

I don't think he was ever the designated penalty taker. However, let's make it sure to distinguish between two things: FPL (in which case penalty goals are a big plus when valuing the players prospects), real PL (in which case they're negligible in this discussion about the players general ability).

Well the price hopefully has nothing to do with people's decision-making. There are plenty of expensive striker flops.

The fact he's an on-form striker at home against a pathetic Sunderland side is in his favour.

Whether or not the fact he's playing in this Man U side is a positive kind of remains to be seen for me. LvG's 'efficient' chance creation thing kind of smacks of struggling to create to me, so we'll see.

I mean they should smash Sunderland, but there's a chance Sunderland shut up shop and make it difficult.

I hope Wales destroy England on Saturday and Lancaster gets a barrage of criticism.

Not just for dropping the most exciting 10 in the world but for playing Sam Burges. The guy should be nowhere near the squad, let alone starting. Doesn't matter how good a league player he was, there's plenty of more deserving players that should have been there. The fact of the matter is that he has been garbage in union. Nearly every game he has a stinker. He's just a big battering ram to carry ball. Can't wait to see Biggar, Roberts and Davies expose him.

They could just as easily prove to be shrewd moves come Saturday imo. The England pack will already be feeling very confident against such a weakened front row, and Farrell plugs that weak channel which you know that Wales would have targeted with everything they have.

I am with you in that I'd have played Ford and Slade, but I'm just saying they could be shrewd moves that could well help win what will be a war of attrition.

Fair enough, but I think Lancaster is over-analysing it. What even happened to the skilful game of rugby? I think Ford and Slade would have been great too. The game is tipped far to much in the favour of physicality and size over skill nowadays. 🙁

    Aguero Martial Ighalo
    0 ITB.

I wanna play 3-5-2 formation. Martial dosen't convince me (tough fixtures in next 5) but I took him because others took him too. He can score against weak Sunderland but he has destroyed my plan already about Hazard in my team. I keep faith in Shaqiri and i hope that he grab some points (only 3% ownership).
    Any feedback would be appreciate.

I am a Clyne owner, thinking of dumping him

Can only do one without taking a hit:

    a) Coutinho -> Pedro. Can prob go either way tbh.
    b) Gomez -> Evans. Only worth it if Gomez doesnt start imo

      Tough one, but Ayew.

You presumably have Mahrez right? I'm considering benching him and playing Ayew instead.
Mahrez untested against a top defence yet.

Yeah I've got Mahrez. Think he's unbenchable at the minute though. This is probably the toughest call I've had to make.

In my head Crystal Palace were playing reasonably loose, but they've only conceded 2 once, and that was against Arsenal. Think I'm going to Bench Ayew still.

I wouldn't bench Mahrez, Arsenal backline is far from unbreachable and consider the fact that it will be their 4th away game in 2 weeks.

Posted couple of comments to you on rondon, but do you not think berahino is better value and also will rondon effectiveness get hurt by berahino playing more. Berahino has pens in locker, I can see rondon assisting berahino rather then getting goals. I am a fan, but just making sure I have a clear head before I replace tekkers...

Rondon is the one upfront, furthest foward so Yeh I think Rondon is worth the extra, he will get goals and assist, they should work well together though Power and Pace, Little and Large.

Ye I agree little large could be effective combo, just a shame tony is a defensive minded manager, out of interest why do you like rondon more then the other punts of martial, pelle, sakho, gomis, ighalo etc?
