The Big Numbers – Gameweek 7

In our first members article of the week, we assess the displays of West Ham, Leicester and Villa’s forwards as the search for a Callum Wilson replacement intensifies. We cast an eye over Southampton, Spurs, West Ham and Arsenal’s midfields and also analyse the impact of Brendan Rodgers’ decision to switch to a 3-4-1-2 formation in the last two Gameweeks.

      Bavies, IMO.

Spurs have great underlying defense stats, have played great with Dier pushed up, and have decént defensive fixtures to boot. (swa, LIV, bou, AVL, ars, WHM) for 4.5, you get into one of top performing defenses thus far (5 goals conceded in 7 matches). I can't see any other competition at that price range, to be honest. Same logic that was applied for Gomez before the season started, can be justified here (dirt cheap, top defense, bench-able value, risk-averse etc).

Dull decision to make Gomez to-

    A. Dawson. Seems sensible
    B. Janmaat. More fun, does though play for Newcastle
    C. Betrand. This is kind of appealing to me.
    D. Jag/Stones. Poor short term fixtures but get them in place now for upturn
    E. Any one else up to 5.9m

Note- if i dont do A. I will prob go Butland to Myhill next week.

    Current shambles

    Butland/ mcCarthy
    Williams/Kolorov/Richards/ Gomez/ Targett

    Thanks

I have similar players as yours to consider bringing in, and I brought in Evans already, and most probably will bring in Janmaat next GW if no pressing issue to replace Darmian, and Bertrand later if he plays well.

The website has been poorly designed, the worst I've ever seen it. I had similar problems where I changed my team, got in Lewandowski and (C) him. But for some reason none of the changes saved and my Matchday 1 team was played. Ridiculous, and to rub salt deep in the wounds I can't sub my players on for tomorrow's games.

      So I quit.

Same, it doesn't allow me to bring on my PSV players. Everyone else is fine. I got 2 PSV guys I was counting on. Looks like it is best to not go back. FPL eats up enough times as it is.

Here's the thing about those two.
I was looking at stats based on Home form for one and away form for the other.
Pellè offers more threat; however, Barkley offers more creativity and it was pretty close to a tie.

Then I looked at the defending teams and it just seems (statistically speaking) Chelsea are the one bit worse at defending and Pellè looked MUCH better than Barkley this week.

In regards for the defenders, who do you reckon will score for Bournemouth + I am also positive Watford are going to score.
There's no way they put such a poor performance like they did against palace against Bournemouth imo. That's why I'm even doubling up 🙂

I know. As a Liverpool fan, I brought Sturridge for the derby game! (and a few other reasons 😉 )
You really never know if it's going to end up 3-3 or 0-0 in that one. If Yaya is out for Saturday that would make my benching decision a lot easier 🙂

Hmm, interesting one. Yet ManCity's attack has proved to be the real beneficiary of late & have the underlying stats & fixtures to justify a double-investment in their attack over their defense, IMO. Coupled with the fact that the fixtures are turning for the top teams & fortune favors other top 5 defenses come the next two/three matches onward.

Cheers SM. Would you ditch Yaya for Payet for the longer term? I got Ayew in a couple of GWs ago and he's done jacksh*t but has got good games coming up - would love to get some points from him.

If Silva and KDB are fit for the weekend, I fear Yaya's points will be even more infrequent (even if explosive).

I'm keeping Yaya. Check some tables and use the comparison tool.
Watch some vids as well. As boring as it is to own a DM (even if it's Yaya) he has looked very threatening when on the pitch.

Yaya was immense against WHU. Really is one of those players that just flips a switch and demolishes everyone. Not sure why he doesn't do it all the time - clearly has the fitness levels to.

Prob B then if I want Payet. Won't be able to upgrade Vardy in the short term though.

A would be my go-to if YYT's injured, IMO.
C is completely unnecessary here, Dawson has a fine fixture & Wba have a great defensive record away from home. Three away matches this year, three CS's. (FWIW they were vs relatively weak attack compared to Palace, vs wat, stk, avl)

Thanks as always Zasa - the thinking behind C is more of freeing up budget. Agree that it's a luxury option this week.

Thinking of possibly selling Yaya even if he's fit. Reason being Ayew's good fixture list and Yaya's possibly more infrequent points if Silva also fit and starting. Frees up some cash for Vardy>Pelle/Lukaku in the future as well.

Payet is scary to not own as well.

D would be the logical move, seeing that int'l break is around the corner.

Aye, I understand the thought process behind C for sure seeing as Pool have poor fixtures coming up & Skrtel isn't worth the outlay for now. Yet, when trying to free up funds, I'd only consider doing it when it's done to enable another transfer at the same time. Otherwise you're just handicapping your team, & your team's flexibility or the following week, IMO.

Hmm, now that logic I have to disagree with Shifty. Au-contraire, Yaya has actually netted the lion's share of his points when he was on the pitch with Silva (2g, 2a in those four matches). Yaya has also been extremely threatening around the box, arguably having been one of their star attackers thus far. He's been very unlucky not to have scored in these last two matches.

So, bad team and 23 points last week (!) meant time to WC. Saved for a raint day it is is bleeping pouring. Current team below. Have 2.3 in the bank. Thinking I should replace Skrtl with someone cheaper, and perhaps Ighalo to Lukaku? I'd very much like to know the thoughts of the dead zone. Thanks so much!

    Myhill, Hennessey

    Kolarov, Azpilicueta, Koscielny, Skrtel, Dawson

    Sánchez, Payet, Ayew, Morrison, Mahrez

    Aguero, Vardy, Ighalo

WC right? Are you playing a 4atb formation? If not, then I'd HIGHLY urge you to downgrade your defenders big time, IMO.

Now if you are playing 4atb each week, I'd look elsewhere for defenders then Azpi, Kosc & Srktel, tbh. A lack of any sign of defensive solidity from Chelsea with the underlying stats to support that. I think Kosc picked up a knock and in any case I'd much rather go with Bellerin/Monreal who have been two of the most threatening full-backs thus far & are paying forward with one the best attack in the league right now. Not to mention their knack for BPS each game (more so for Ballerina).

Would also consider a City milf in there.

In a 4atb set-up, Spurs simply can't be ignored, it's a new season and old declarations of past form are largely irrelevant. Spurs currently boast of the best defenses so far & have a kind schedule to suggest their motor will keep on pushing even the best attacks (their underlying defensive stats truly are superb). I'd ignore Palace & West Ham, decent fixtures but both teams have extremely shoddy & unreliable defenses. I can't see this run magically transforming their unavoidable woes in the back.

My go-to defenses on a 4atb WC side would be: for the next 6 matches
For the short term: West Brom (cry, SUN, nor, LEI) Gw12 onward is tricky, imo.

      Long-term:
ManCity: (NEW, BOU, mun, NOR, avl, LIV) - Kolarov
Swansea: (TOT, STK, avl, ARS, nor, BOU)
Arsenal: (MUN, wat, EVE, swa, TOT, wba)
Southampton: (che, LEI, liv, BOU, sun, STK)
Spurs: (swa, LIV, bou, AVL, ars, WHM) kinder fixtures after Gw9

and would try to consider specifically Janmaat (no other Newcastle defender) as a rotatable 5th defender as they have great attacking fixtures (mci, NOR, sun, STK, bou, LEI)

Although they have great defensive fixtures on paper, I'd be wary of Chelsea defense for time being.

whats the better option to have. Three 4.5 playing defenders, or 1 4.5 and 5.0 and one 4.0 who will most likely not play?

    For example

    Davies, nyom, francis
    vs
    Alderwield, nyom , steven taylor*

    Any thoughts on this?

I think the Pedro being dropped is becoming one of those 'things' on this board. Yes it may happen but really who knows. Willian played well the other day.

          im no Chelsea expert but

          Pedro Willian Hazard
          Forward

So Wilson is going to drop every night. I was hoping to save a transfer this week to have 2 in international break. So my next transfers would be around 16th October. By that stage Wilson will be 4.1 million, Shaqiri will be about 5.5 million and my season will be ruined. Might as well just take a -4 now to save my season really.
