The ScoutCast – Episode 170 – Bingo

Forget two fat ladies, in ScoutCast Bingo it’s all about three men with paunches chatting Fantasy Football fortunes, rattling out a few familiar clichés along the way.

Thanks to Numb’s witty community contribution, this week’s episode finds us gripping our dabbers in preparation for mispronunciations, dropped connections and a regular helping of “blimeys”.

Around those fun and games, we tackle the serious matters – assessing the merits of Sergio Aguero, Callum Wilson’s replacements and my range of Christmas jumpers.

All those hard-hitting issues are addressed via another round of community questions, following on from our review of Gameweek 7 as Granville fights the urge to gloat having opened up a 40 point lead over yours truly.

This episode of the ScoutCast was broadcast live on our YouTube channel on Wednesday evening. You can view the full Google Hangout on the larger player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

At Colney. Wenger: "Koscielny will certainly be out. He has a hamstring strain - it looks like 3 weeks. Arteta and Flamini are out."

Do you need the funds? If not, i would just go Bellerin and save the headache. Very decent attacking potential

I don't have enough to do Gomez to Bellerin as I have the Wilson problem too. 4.6 to spend on defender and 5.8 to spend on striker

      WOW, nice team
Got all the big names there.

      Here's the gist of it:

Sanchez: awesome form, he's back, but has a stubborn Utd defence
Hazard: similar maybe, Saints know how to defend
Aguero: Not fully back, and yet he's scored a couple of penalties recently. My choice
Payet: Mr consistent. Seems to always do it, even when west ham lose/play crap.
Martial: kid is on a high, but Arsenal is tough going.

Aguero is the obvious choice, even with his fails recently. Haz and Sanchez have also misfired, and face way better opposition. It is a bit of a gamble capping a player for West Ham in an away game, but Sunderland isnt really a football team atm so anything could happen. Payet is a really good choice, and probably a bit of a cap differential

Presuming you have other City assets I would go Mata but you could also have Sterling for the next 3 and then switch to Mata after the '3 hard fixtures' are out the way

I think Sterling could match or outperform Mata in the next 3 and then make a switch after, it's a 50-50 call, on the other hand, if Sterling learns how to shoot, he could be gold

Interesting. How are you interpreting these then? His goals and assists per game are both improved this season, but does this not just mean that we should expect a regression to the mean? And his Chances Created per game seems to have been on a downward trend throughout

      1. Your Mum's Athletic
        • 12 Years
        8 years, 7 months ago

You could argue 14/15 is an anomaly due to the season United were having but when he plays, he seems to produce consistently. If he gets to the stats he produced in the first 2 seasons then he's a bargain at his price

        1. PurpleCobras

I agree. He seems very touchy on this subject. Surely he won't play Ospina again in his stubborness to try and make a "point"

He seems to be sticking to it: "If you question Ospina, I question your knowledge of football."

If there's one thing Wenger doesn't lack, it's stubbornness.

Ospina was great back end of last season though. 50% clean sheet rate or something so although i agree he should of played Cech he has a right to think Ospina should do well

      3. PurpleCobras

Just a thought on that - Arsenal should have been able to deal with Olympiakos regardless of who the keeper is. It feels like it's tactics/attitude that are an issue in Europe as much as personnel

        1. Doolittle
          • 11 Years
          8 years, 7 months ago

Yes, agreed completely, the main issue - far more than personnel - is Wenger's tactics. I've said many times; it's astonishing that a manger with 20 years CL experience can be so consistently naive. He repeats the same mistakes over and over again, how did he not learn from Anderlecht/Monaco?

However, he still has to take responsibility for not playing a top goalkeeper in what was effectively a must win game. Why not play your strongest team!? It wasn't a 1st round League Cup game against Wrexham.

Janmaat, Evans, Souare, Naughton, Ryan Bennet (always on bench)
Hazard, De Bruyne, Sanchez, Mahrez, Wanyama (most of the time on bench)

Actually see Ayew doing very well over the next 6 GWs.

But having Gomis means I'm not quite sure what to do.

Mertesacker turns like a bus. Can see Martial's agility causing him problens. Mata(c)?

Not sure I'd captain but I can see United doing their routine win over Arsenal.

He has always turned like a bus yet never seems to come out of these encounters with egg on his face. Far better than hes given credit for

With Koscielny out for 3 weeks, should I be reconsidering having an Arsenal defender (currently Bellerin).

If so who should I replace him with? Already have Kolarov as my other more pricey defender.

Rodgers: "No real change with injuries. Seeing how Benteke is over course of next 24hrs. Squad will be pretty much same as Villa game."

Who would you rather have in your team if you had to pick one of

    A. Payet
    B. KDB (got Aguero)
    C. Vardy (got Mahrez)

      B. KDB

Though admitedly I got Vardy, which has left me short of funds for KDB

I'm secretly hoping for Mourinho to rule Pedro out so I can bring in Mata for a hit. It looks so tempting.

I think Kosc out is better for Martial than Mata. But Mata looks a great option atm, no doubt.

Btw, dream on about Mourinho being that in depth about his starting XI 😀

I think if we lose he's gone. A draw and he's one game away, imo.

that's what Jay Riley and others are suggesting. He was given 3 games to win, Villa, Everton and whoever the next game is against. It's only speculation

Oh i see, fair enough. I've been following Riley a while and he always seems to give the impression that Rodgers isn't go anywhere. Maybe something's changed recently

I'm getting bored of Aguero blanking and I will keep him to limit goalscoring damage but will captain Kolarov.

Please bench one defender for this GW ?

    A Moreno (eve)
    B Evans (cpl)
    C Nyom (bou)

Currently thinking to play Moreno for possible assist potential given Stones & Coleman are injured....but not totally sure

    Pardew talking up Souare:

“I’ve been impressed with his consistency this year. Long may that continue.

“Papa will score some goals for us this year. He’s good in the air and gets in the box. He’s a good crosser of the ball.

“But the most important thing is his defensive ability. That’s what sets him apart at the moment.”

He's so under-rated, think he is one of Palace's best players. Let's keep him a differential 😉
