This Much We Know – Gameweek 8

Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez serve a timely reminder of their world class talents. Kevin de Bruyne strengthens his claim as a must-have big hitter but Eden Hazard’s toils continue. Riyad Mahrez’ Fantasy potential could be curtailed by The Tinkerman, Christian Eriksen steps up his consistency, whilst Sadio Mane looks a major differential.

Class is permanent with Aguero and Sanchez…
After Alexis Sanchez set the tone with a hat-trick against Leicester last week, Sergio Aguero’s five-goal haul against Newcastle underlined why, in certain cases, it’s provident to be patient with big hitters. The duo banished their stuttering starts and have exploded into form simultaneously, scoring six goals apiece in the last week in all competitions. It’s been a long time coming but, finally, the South American pair look back to their blistering best – going without either of them now looks a very dangerous tactic.

…and De Bruyne deserves his big hitter status…
Three goal and two assists in a trio of league starts has underlined why City were prepared to splash the cash on the former Chelsea wide man. De Bruyne has played a part in five of City’s last eight goals, strengthening his claim as the leading contender amongst Manuel Pellegrini’s midfield. A double-up with Sanchez in the centre of the park is quickly becoming the preferred tactic for many, with the Belgian’s explosive potential looking increasingly difficult to ignore.

Chelsea’s toils aren’t helping Hazard…
Whilst Sanchez and Aguero finally translated their underlying numbers into points, the situation is a little different for Chelsea’s big hitter. Jose Mourinho’s side look alarmingly short of form and Hazard’s Fantasy potential has suffered significantly as a result, with the Belgian offering little evidence to suggest he can arrest his recent malaise. With Sanchez and De Bruyne key targets, Hazard looks surplus to requirement as we look to free up budget.

…whilst Pedro’s minutes need monitored…
The Spaniard’s owners were placed on high alert after he was omitted from the starting XI for the first time this term by Jose Mourinho. Replacement Willian vindicated his manager’s decision, though, by scoring for the third successive match in all competitions, with Pedro only handed minutes at the break due to the Brazilian’s withdrawal through illness. Now down to 9.3, Pedro is second only to Yaya Toure amongst midfielders for transfers out this week and with the international break now upon us, that exodus looks likely to pick up pace.

Sako’s star is fading fast…
Similar to Pedro, the Palace summer signing’s immediate impact has quickly died out, leaving him warming the Selhurst Park bench against West Brom last weekend. Alan Pardew’s decision to turn to last year’s attacking midfield trio, Yannick Bolasie, Wilfried Zaha and Jason Puncheon, paid off as the Eagles soared into fourth spot. Back-to-back spot-kicks from Yohan Cabaye highlights the numerous options within the Selhurst Park midfield but Sako’s name may be struck from that list, if Saturday’s team sheet is anything to go by.

Ranieri’s tinkering could derail Mahrez’ season…
The Leicester manager reminded us just why he’s known as “The Tinkerman” by surprisingly dropping Riyad Mahrez to the bench for the trip to Norwich. Frustratingly for Fantasy managers, Ranieri’s decision paid off as the Foxes recovered from their Gameweek 7 home loss to Arsenal by defeating the Canaries at Carrow Road. Sitting in 54% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) sides, we may have to reconsider Mahrez if Ranieri feels he can get away with omitting the Algerian on occasion, with Jamie Vardy looking far more secure by comparison.

There’s no shortage of Wilson replacements…
As the Callum Wilson exodus picks up pace, a number of budget options threw their hat in the ring at the weekend. Glenn Murray scored once and missed a penalty on his first start in Wilson’s absence for Bournemouth, whilst Odion Ighalo continues to look like Watford’s only source of goals – the 5.3-priced frontman’s fifth of the season was accompanied by maximum bonus, taking him to fourth overall amongst strikers. With Aleksandar Mitrovic finding the net at City ahead of Newcastle’s kind upcoming schedule, there are still plenty of budget differentials to consider for those looking to free up cash.

Mane is starting to motor…
A goal and assist away to Chelsea highlighted the Southampton midfielder’s fixture-proof appeal as the schedule starts to turn in his favour. Whilst Graziano Pelle sits in 18% of FPL sides, Mane remains a real differential – just 6% of managers have taken the plunge on a player who has delivered two goals and five assists in his last four starts. The Saints have now put eight past Swansea, United and Chelsea in the previous three and with Dusan Tadic also in decent form, investment in the St Mary’s outfit looks top of many agendas.

A consistent Eriksen adds more to the midfield mix…
One goal in the final 15 Gameweeks of 2014/15 is indicative of how frustrating the Tottenham midfielder can be as a Fantasy asset. Sunday’s two-goal haul at Swansea, however, suggests Eriksen may be a little more reliable this time around – having recovered from injury, he’s now produced returns in four of his five league appearances so far. With four home clashes and a trip to Bournemouth in the next six, can the Dane justify that 8.3 price tag and barge his way into our five-man midfields?

Lukaku is tempting…
Despite a horrendous opening schedule, the Everton frontman sits third amongst strikers after racking up three goals and an assist against West Brom and Liverpool since last Monday. Whereas the likes of West Ham, Leicester, Southampton and Swansea have viable goal scoring alternatives in the centre of the park, Ross Barkley’s recent lack of form heightens Lukaku’s importance to the Toffees’ cause. Whilst the playmaker blanked for the fifth time in six league matches, the big Belgian is starting to pick up pace as the main Everton target ahead of their superb run of fixtures from Gameweek 11 onwards.

We shouldn’t write Ayew off…
Back in the goals against Spurs at the Liberty, the Ghana international rewarded his 20% owners by climbing into the top five midfielder placings. Ayew banished a three-match barren streak to notch for the third time in four home appearances as Garry Monk’s men finally rediscovered their scoring touch at a time when Bafetimbi Gomis’ toils continue. Although many who doubled-up on the Swansea pair are looking to part company with the misfiring Frenchman, Ayew, at 7.2, seems worth retaining for now.

Theo is looking undroppable …
It’s five straight starts in the league now for the England international, with Olivier Giroud once again consigned to a bench-warming berth. Tellingly, Walcott kept his place up top despite the fact that Giroud was suspended for midweek Champions League duties – dispelling the notion that Arsene Wenger would alternate on a regular basis. It’s two goals and three assists in the last three across all competitions now for Walcott, whose speed and movement up top have helped the Gunners score ten times over those fixtures – given his side’s outstanding form, Wenger will surely be very reluctant to change things for the Gameweek 9 visit to Watford.

They're still not *that* far behind. They could put a run together.
On the other hand it does look like things are unravelling pretty badly, and that he's lost whatever charm he had over them.

I think it will more be down to rotation though. A lot of fuxtures coming up with bayern twice

Though it would probably be better for arsenal to lose those games. No chance of winning ucl and the lack of european games could be huge for the title race

It would always be Sanchez or both for me, I wouldn't lose Sanchez. With Sanchez, KDB, Mane and Mahrez it would be very very hard for me to accommodate Walcott, but I do have something of an FPL love affair with him.

Ooof. I hope so. We have two tables, which show an increased goal threat from Payet, but an outstanding goal threat from Mané. However, they also show that Payet may perhaps now be the most creative player in the League.

If I was forced into a decision now, I would go Payet, for two reasons - value and balance. I always go for goals, so am always short of assisters ... Silva, Fabregas, Hazard etc.

I usually have Cazorla for this reason, but am sitting with Walcott at the moment, so ...

As a Saints fan I can safely say that Mane is a much more dangerous player who definitely plays more or less as a second forward, with Tadic more of a winger. Heat maps etc may show different but Mane definitely is going to get in more dangerous positions and score more. Tadic still a decent option though.

Moved up to top 4K, not bad to say was 2.5millon after GW2.

    McCarthy
    Sagna | | Azpi | Dawson
    Sanchez | Mahrez | KDB (V) | Payet | Hoolahan
    Aguero (C) | Vardy

    Fabianski | Gomis | Richards | Huth

Would you say that Sagna is the most important to ship this week.?

I would also like to change McCarthy to Hennesey & also transfer Gomis..

not an assist or a clean sheet in the last three games? has the West Ham defense lost it? Is it all about scoring more goals than the opponent rather than defend?

Discussions mull over Mane and mid/attack options mainly. How about your defence? Who are you relying at your backline? Personally I'm in good position in midfielders and attackers, but defence worries me. Bellerin is the primary man I have, others rotate massively. Plus I have Lindegaard as backup Gk. Don't ask why he is there...

Old news. Appointed last week. Zorc from Dortmund will join him next summer as he's currently under contract. Zorc was responsible for the transfers at Dortmund. Both are a big coup for Liverpool. Exciting times ahead for the club.

it wasnt done as far back as last week. deal is being finalised before it's announced. the sacking was decided last week and at that time Klopp wasn't on for the job but something changed (I presume his agreement to the committee until Zorc comes)

It was agreed last week. Klopp has been studying Liverpool this summer and has stayed close to few key journalists from Liverpool. For legal reasons the club can't disclose his appointment.

Klopp was chosen over Ancelotti as the owners looking for a long term appointment. Nothing to do with Ancelotti's wage demands.

I know he had been around the Kop doing extensive tours and talking with ex players.

The point is he is coming which is the amazing news.

it's unofficially official. a good few sources have it as 100%. will be announced this week.

I am delighted to get Klopp but still sad to see BR go. He did bring some amazing times but we have a true elite manager now and it will be interesting what Klopp can do in his first season. Apparently he is happy to work with a committee and the Dortmund DOF will be coming in summer once his contract is up. Can't remember his name, starts with Z!

Really, DoF too? Interesting. Just thought I'd post it as it came from the same guy who said on Friday BR was gone Win, Lose or Draw after the Everton game. Kind of a final unofficial confirmation if you will.

he is the next manager. a few sources have confirmed it.

yeah Zorc will be great. not sure Klopp will do much buying in Jan as he didn't make any transfers himself at Dortmund

To be ranked 50,000th with Aguero & Sanchez in my side is a very satisfying feeling after a tough start to the season.

I know, have the same feeling. I went from 750,000 to 90,000 or something

1.8m to 900k, baby steps, but 94 points and great fixtures next week will help!

What do people think about Zouma's chances of getting a recall next gameweek? His fixture is too juicy not to keep him if he plays.

    The alternative is getting Janmaat.

the words juicy fixture don't apply to Chelsea at the moment. one of the worst defences in the leagues

They will find their feet, I am positive about that. Question is of course when. But having Zouma playing at home to Villa is pretty good, no matter how you look at it.

do you really think so? Jose has lost the plot and dressing room/ can;t see them turning it around for a while.

They do – they ARE the juicy fixture.

Avoid Chelsea backline until they find their for and get their game in shape. And janmaat should not be any option in any circumstances.

Why not? He has great attacking threat, get's quite good points even though they concede all the time, has fantastic fixtures.

There're better alternatives imo. And by definition I'd avoid defence from the team which concede a lot of goals and is at the bottom of the table.

Will Zouma play, will he not play.

Will Chelsea turn it around etc

A lot of ifs and buts for a player of his price.

    Feedback appreciated!

    Begovic/Myhill
    Kolarov Dawson Zouma (Bellerin Targett)
Sanchez Hoolahan Mahrez Mané De Bruyne
    Aguero Sakho

    Bellerin Targett Jerome

Is Mahrez sou better than Bellerin wat

Also is Bego&Zouma v AVL a better chance of cleansheet than Myhill&Dawson v SUN, ie, which keeper!

Transferred KDB in for Hazard to avoid missing the increases - afraid HAZ will finally let loose v Villa at home, but KDB has the same chance home to BOU AND IS IN FORM

Would you take -4 to upgrade S. Taylor or Targett or would you play Francis against Manchester City?

-4 to upgrade a bench players is mental. Play Francis

Forgot to say that I have money in the bank so the new defender can be Janmaat or any player for 4.9 and below

Elphick is so instrumental to the Bournemouth backline I wouldn't surprised if Aguero repeated his performance against Newcastle again next GW.

Apologies because I have posted this a couple of times, just struggling to get anyone to answer.

My 3rd and 4th Defs are Francis and Nyom, both up against City and Arsenal respectively.
My front three are Gomis Sakho and Aguero.

    Do I...

    A) use my 1 FT to get Alderweireld in for Nyom/Francis?
    B) Get Pelle in for Gomis
    C) wait until after the break

Much appreciated if anyone has any views on the matter 🙂

I know Spurs have improved defensively, but Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in their next 6 puts me off Alderiweireld.

Wouldn't surprise me if Gomis broke his drought home to Stoke, but I think Pelle is a better pick than Gomis long term.

I'm in the same situation Nyom/Francis but decided to play AOA. I used my FT for Mane and I'm not gonna take hits on defs.

      I wouldn't go A.
B is tempting cause of Pelle form but Gomis plays 3 really good games in next 4. I see more pluses than minuses in geting Pelle.

Track prices, if you can afford waiting, do it, If Gomis is in danger -sell.

I think this is what I will do, defence can hold together, always a chance Francis gets a assist or 2.

I always knew Targett would come back to haunt me, but not like this...

I have Pelle and Tadic and would love Bertrand (or Van Dijk or Cedric or Stek) but Targett sitting there making it impossible!

I think I only played Matty T once, maybe twice - the rest of the time he's been bench points.

    Grrrrr.
