The Weekend Team News

Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both sidelined until after the international break. Newcastle’s Jack Colback is out for six weeks with a knee injury, Winston Reid could return for the Hammers, whilst Bojan is back for Stoke after recovering from a toe problem.

Arsenal have been dealt a major blow with the news that Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been ruled out until after next month’s international break. The pair picked up calf and hamstring injuries during the midweek cup loss at Sheffield Wednesday, with Arsene Wenger admitting he could play Joel Campbell or Alex Iwobi on the right flank due an increasing lack of options. Wenger has also revealed that he expects Oxlade-Chamberlain to return to action quicker than Walcott.

Seamus Coleman is a major doubt for Everton’s home clash with Sunderland after picking up a stomach bug over the last few days. Leighton Baines and Mo Besic will return to first-team training today but the weekend is likely to come too soon for the pair.

Mark Hughes has revealed that defender Marc Muniesa will be sidelined for three to four weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the midweek cup victory against Chelsea. The weekend will also come too soon for fellow centre-back Geoff Cameron, who came off early with a thigh issue in last weekend’s loss to Watford – Hughes has suggested that the American requires another four to five days to recover. Mame Biram Diouf and Jon Walters are both expected to be available despite soreness and a dead leg respectively following the Chelsea tie. Elsewhere, Bojan is set to return for the Potters having been rested due to a toe problem in midweek, while Glen Johnson is also expected to be in contention – he missed the Chelsea clash with a knock but is back in training.

Newcastle have suffered an injury blow with the news that midfielder Jack Colback is ruled out for up to six weeks with the knee injury that forced him off during last week’s derby loss at Sunderland.

Slaven Bilic suggests that the Hammers almost have a clean bill of health for the weekend. Key defender Winston Reid is back in training, though the Hammers boss has conceded he will have to “wait and see” if the New Zealand international is fully fit. Alex Song remains unavailable.

Swansea have a fully fit squad for the weekend visit of Arsenal, with Garry Monk confirming that winger Wayne Routledge is back in contention having trained all week.

Leandro Ulloa will be assessed ahead of the weekend, after missing recent matches with a thigh problem. Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri has suggested that the forward “is ready” for the Hawthorns trip.

A non-committal Tony Pulis has revealed West Brom “have one or two knocks” ahead of the visit of Leicester.

Sunderland will give Fabio Borini, Ola Toivonen, Younes Kaboul and John O’Shea as much time as possible before making a late decision on their fitness.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Couple of problems here. Have 2 free transfers and 0.3 in the bank. What to do?

    Butland - Hennessy
    Bellerin - Dawson - Moreno - O'Shea - B Davies
    Mahrez - Payet - KDB - Mane - Alexis
    Vardy - Lukaku - Pelle

Interesting the bookies have Mane twice as long odds for a hattrick as the other main captaincy choices this week

    9/1 Bony
    10/1 Kane/Iheanacho/DeBruyne
    11/1 Lukaku/Pelle
    .....
    25/1 Mane

Looking at the stats over the last 4, Mane looks just as likely to score a hatty as Pelle. What do they know that we don't?

Is there just an inherent bias toward strikers?

Tbh I can't see DeBruyne scoring a hattrick.

Depends on the bookie, those odds are very short about Pelle. He's 25/1 with Bet365, whilst Mane is 40/1.

          Hey mate.
Swans are a bit of a bogey team, and ordinarily I'd back the NL derby for goals, but not this Spurs outfit. They're tight and in-form. I think it'll be more cagey than usual. Just a hunch.

He could easily do well in those games but I think the safer time to get him is maybe GW14 for Norwich, Sunderland, Villa... (if he's made himself first choice.)

But you did say gambling.. and yeah, could easily pay off.

To Kane or not to Kane?

    Pros
    Villa at home = carnage
    Main striker in inform team
    Nice MNF rank jump

    Cons
    Those fixtures after villa
All goals vs Bournemouth were gifts (won't have it so easy normally)
Hes pretty much just a one week punt.

      • 9 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

I don't see how anyone can forget how badly he was before that Bournemouth game in the previous 9 games, I don't care how good his underlying stats are. He couldn't finish to save his life.

That does happen to strikers though. And then they re-calibrate and start scoring. Strikers are weird people. It's like a golf swing or a snooker shot... tiny changes make a huge difference

I got him last week for a one week (c) punt and it was glorious.

If I was in a punty position this week I'd go for it again, but as on WC I'm dropping him for someone with better long-term fixtures.

Having said that I don't see Villa as complete walkovers. Their defence isn't actually all that bad.

He has looked poor to me this season. Bournemouth are the whipping boys who are conceding 4 and 5 goals a game.

He has a chance against Villa of course. But you can say that about any striker.. I am not in a rush to bring him in.

Martial is probably leaving my team this week, I love the guy, he'll get goals and assists.. But him being on the wing and with LVG control's philosophy even if he plays more cenetrally, he won't explode.. you'll get a goal or two max.. for his price would rather have Kane/Lukaku/Pelle TBH..

Now with a forward line of Pelle Martial Vardy, the question is

    Martial -->

    A) Lukaku
    B) Kane

I'm leaning towards Lukaku for his kind run of fixtures plus my ML league leader who's 30 points ahead has Kane.. so I figured why not spice it up!!

    Thoughts please 🙂

Those who watched Kane vs Bournemouth.

Did he score hatty because he was playing good or because Bornemouth were awful? He haven't done nothing besides those three goals.

Any striker in the world would've scored a hatty that game.

One goal was a peno, the other was a stupid mishandling mistake from Boruc and the other was a tap in. Has the stats, but that hatty was only because Bournemouth's defence and keeper were awful.

    Butland
    Kolarov Bellerin Dawson (Richards Ward)
    Sanchez KdB Mane Payet Mahrez
    Pelle Vardy (Igahlo)

    2ft 4.6m in the bank

Thinking VVD in for Richards, possibly Igahlo to Bony.

In what way does that affect Martial position?

        Just curious

    Best option here folks?

    1. Albrighton ➡ Mesut Ozil (3-5-2, bench Martial or play AOA)

    2. Martial ➡ Harry Kane (3-4-3, bench Albrighton)

    Current front 8:

    Sanchez KDB Mahrez Payet (Albrighton)
    Martial Pelle Vardy

How many people *don't* have a 5-man midfield of Sanchez - KDB - Payet - Mane - Mahrez? Is there a better/differential option?

not sure about that, Mane's been far more reliable than Eriksen of late

far more? Over the past 3 gws Eriksen leads 23 - 17, and 27 -24 over the past 4 gws

Yeah you're right. It felt like Mane was producing more consistently whereas Eriksen's recent lead over him was due to one bumper week (15 pts in GW8), but in fact they've both produced attacking returns in 5 out of 10 games so far this season. I just love Southampton players in FPL I think.

I have Ayew instead of Sanchez. Will probably make that trade after a few weeks. Or maybe Ozil instead.

How can anyone argue with Norwich(H) + Villa(A) in the highest scoring team in the league.

He's gonna be going for Aguero anyway so why would you care about his "short-termness"

Looking for a Rondon replacement. My thinking is that I'll want Aguero back when he's fit anyway, so short term planning isn't an issue.

    A. Bony
    B. Giroud
    C. Lukaku

Current front three are Pelle - Rondon - Vardy

      I'd go C.

You've probably already got City and Arsenals best attacking players already.

Lukaku has great fixtures, plus pens and is fully nailed.
