Fiffsa 5-a-side World Cup Qualifying Week 6

Gameweek 5 of the FIFFSA 5-a-side tournament saw our first confirmed qualifications and exits. However, for the vast majority of the teams, there is everything still left to play for.

We would like to remind everyone of the deadline for submitting in your substitutes. This week, it will be 23:00 GMT on Monday, Jan 11th. We are still receiving some emails after this time and those teams had their 6th player benched as stated in the article. Please email as early as possible as we have limited time to organise the team spreadsheets and update the score centre during Monday night/Tuesday.

Any teamsheets sent to us after 2300 GMT will not be accepted and your 6th player will be benched. No Exceptions!

Gameweek 5 Review

The average team score for this week was 340 points  and as with previous rounds there were some close ties. In particular, the ties between USA v Cayman Islands and Iran v Sri Lanka were decided by a single point.

The biggest win of the week was for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which defeated Russia by a massive 71 points in a match that ended 366 to 295.

With five games having being played, Tahiti remain the sole side with a 100% record and are secure for qualification. Thirteen other sides have won four of their first five matches and will expect to qualify although some still remain at risk depending on certain scenarios. In contrast, UAE and Ivory Coast, still maintain a 100% record of losing. Qualification may no longer be possible but I’m sure they will be looking to avoid a whitewash over the next two games.

The luckiest team award goes to France, who scraped a win with only 324 points (16 points below average).

The unluckiest team award goes to the Cayman Islands, who lost their tie against the USA despite scoring 357 points (17 points above average). This would have been enough to win all but 10 ties this week.

The worst benching decision goes to Iceland who benched Gilli Gold who scored 88 its, although it didn’t matter with Iceland edging out the Republic of Ireland.

The presser award for Gameweek 5 goes to Il Consiglieri Wasabi 196 of San Marino for getting the tournament into the christmas spirit. Keep the pressers up! There are so many excellent contributors which have yet to win awards. If you haven’t submitted one before why not submit one this week?

Gameweek 6 Preview

There are lots of exciting ties coming up this week and some teams should be able to secure their spots in the first round proper of the tournament.

A top of the table clash in AFC group B finds New Caledonia taking on Singapore. Both sides are level on 12 points at the top of the table along with Australia and will be crucial in deciding who tops this group. The winner will guarantee qualification while the loser may need a result in the final game depending on other results.

In the CAF group, four teams are currently on 12 points. Two of these, Zambia and Djibouti go head to head, again, the loser of the tie will then need a win in the final game to secure qualification.

A more detailed summary of this can be found on the player history tab which includes the rank history of every player in the tournament at our team sheets and tables spreadsheet.

Further Information

A quick reminder of the format. Each gameweek, teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each teams’ gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for. This week’s games can be found here.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 2300 (GMT) of Monday, Jan 11th otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the kick-off on Tuesday evening at our score centre spreadsheet.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

Yep very close Mahez let us down big time the Pleb. I think Columbia have the edge with the differentials we need an Ighalo explosion to save us. Good luck with the rest of the gameweek lads

    ***Mexico vs Costa Rica update***

(I hope I get this right)

    Mexico - 243

    vs

    Costa Rica - 157

    Differentials

Mexico: 2x DDG, 2x Wollscheid, Butland, Koscielny

Costa Rica: 5x Ighalo, 3x Giroud, 2 Cech, Arnautovic, Nyom

Seems like it's gonna be a case of defense vs attack

The 86 pt lead can easily be wiped out by goals from Ighalo and Giroud

Exciting times against the odds in CAF. Because Egypt are currently posting a very small total the race is on again for 2nd spot for whoever wins between Zambia and The Seychelles. Anyway, differentials are:

    Seychelles
    Bellerin
    Nyom
    Smalling
    Moreno
    Siggy

    Zambia
    Butland
    Ozil
    Williams x 2

    Djibouti vs Zimbabwe update

    My calculations:

    Djibouti 248

    Differentials:
    Siggy x2
    Bellerin x2
    Nyom

    Zimbabwe 216

    Differentials:
    Ozil
    Giroud
    Koscielney
    Butland
    Arnautovic
    Wollscheid
    Darmian
    Ighalo

    looks really a close one.

With Egypt look like loosing, a win will guarantee Djibouti the top spot in the CAF Group, and also may have the chance to be the highest scorers throughout the qualifications in all groups.

    Egypt vs. South Africa Update:
    Egypt 117 - 248 South Africa

    Remaining differentials:
Egypt: de Gea, Bellerin, Ozil x2, Bojan, Ighalo x2, Smalling, Koscielny, Darmian, and Arnautovic
South Africa: Sakho, Moreno x2, Monreal, and Gomes

South Africa has a huge lead thanks to 7x Aguero and 1x Daniels. It looks likely that South Africa will finally pick up a second win.

We're reliant on defenders which is a risky game but a Watford or Arsenal blank should seal matters. Looks like the benching decision went well - wouldn't have wanted you on the bench this week! 🙂

Even if we win against Scotland, we may still be out of this tournament if Germany outscore us by at least 16 points today and tomorrow. It's extremely tight. If we assume we beat the Scottish, we could be on level points (12pts) with Bosnia, Finland and Germany. Our differentials vs. Germany are:

      Poland:
      De Gea, Wollscheid, Nyom, 2xArnautovic + 15pts

      Germany:
      3xButland, Bellerin, Cathcart, 2xOzil, 2xIghalo

      Sooo tight... Unbelieveable.

We only have guaranteed qualification if Bosnia defeat Finland, but it's very unlikely. The differentials in this game are:

        Finland:

Jamaica seem to be winning vs. Cayman..
Mexico seem to be winning against Costa Rica..
      Barbados vs. USA is close..
      USA Ozil x 4 Monreal x 2 Butland x 2 Giroud
      Barbados DDG x 2 Williams Moreno Ramsey x 2 Fabianski Bellerin x 3 Ighalo x 2 Nyom + 14 points

If Barbados win..Jamaica and Mexico go through..Else it will be a point shoot out between Mexico and Jamaica both of which have a difference of one point..

Loss for England and Netherlands will result in qualification of Israel inspite of loosing this week. But its being too close for the comfort, being the highest scoring team in the group is not enough

I urge all of you to take a look at AFC/OFC B group table. Five teams fighting it out for the last qualification spot.

As of last night, 3 teams tied on 9 points and only separated by total points scored. And that too by 8 points!!!

A win for Iran would guarantee them qualification and render all other teams' efforts pointless. They are currently winning by 3 points according to the score center!

    Tight.

UEFA B must be the most crazy group... Poland, Germany, Finland and Bosnia all on level points currently - 12. Portugal first and already qualified.

In fact, Bosnia and Finland have scored a lot of points over the tournament and it's safe to say that they are already through on point difference.

    Which leaves Poland and Germany.

    We have Nyom left.
    They have Ighalo(2) and Cathcart.

The most incredible this is that Germany and Poland have BOTH scored 2009 points so far in this tournament... And it has all come down to the last game.

Simply amazing. However, we are hopeless with only one defender left against their Watford assets... Anyway, it was a lot of fun.

According to me its equal on points. But you got a point advantage due to the head to head. Its crazy how its turning out. We were 6th at the beginning of this week. Btw, if Bosnia win, we both qualify.

        • 8 Years
        8 years, 4 months ago

Yes it is, 2009 both. Just to make it clear, let's assume our teams would finish with the same number of points - would Poland be the ones who qualify? Or how does it work?

This group is just incredible. Bosnia have a chance to still win, that's true. But then we need a show from Ighalo and Ayew blank.

        Bosnia:
        3xIghalo

        Finland:
        28 points + Ayew.

        Unbelieveable Jeff...

If we end up equal, you go through. Equal on GF I mean. If goals for are equal, head to head is considered. Moreover, Cathart didn't play last time round. So nothing's over yet. An ighalo 11 pointer would be gold for both of us.

We were monitoring your match and hoping y'all lose. It was totally against us. We were 6th at the beginning. We trailed Poland by 30 and finland, bosnia and y'all were way ahead on GF. Our option was either Bosnia win which would only require us to win. Or the last option was Poland win and we beat Poland by 30 points. The latter was completely unlikely. Turns out, its gonna be close on the second situation. Whatever happens its been a crazy group and it was fun!

Up to date differentials for the Seychelles v Zambia.

This is closer than yesterday but still very much in Zambias hands. After autosubs scores are:

    Zambia 311 Seychelles 295

    Seychelles
    Nyom
    Siggy

    Zambia
    Williams x 2

It is pretty much in Siggy's hands as Nyom surely cannot score those kind of points.

I annoy a few when I lose my rag. Only one team allowed in fpl, multiple in ufpl. I have multiple fpl due to ufpl but only really play 1.
Email today from fpl towers saying to pick which fpl team I want as someone had reported me. Obviously will choose my main one but side effect is as I've not broken any ufpl rules will get refunds for teams not doing well.
IBAS will be my friend, dealt with them enough from a provider point of view to know I will get my money back, so effectively I've tried for free.
Or fpl will let the teams stay, so win-win

We'll see anyhow. One way I get my money back and will reinvest for a charge on February monthly ufpl prize, other way things stay as is. Half hoping I get the cash as some of my teams are dire

Update from Lisbon on the fight for first place in UEFA Group B!

Assuming Ighalo doesn't score 40+ points tomorrow, at the very least we (Portugal) have won UEFA B on points scored difference ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The most likely outcome though is that we win the group by a 3-6 point margin over the rest of the group (full details of the permutations below).

    Group As It Stands
    1. Portugal - 18 Points
    2. Finland - 12 Points
    3. Bosnia & Herzegovina - 12 Points
    4. Poland -12 Points
    5. Germany - 12 Points
    6. Scotland - 9 Points
    7. Greece - 6 Points
    8. Russia - 3 Points

As things stand after autosubs Portugal are Winning UEFA B with a 6 point cushion over Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Poland and Germany.

    Portugal 266 - 260 Russia

    Portugal Differentials: Gomes
    Russia Differentials: Nyom, Ighalo x2

Looks like we may just lose this one to Russia tomorrow, leaving the door open for Bosnia and Herzegovina to win the group on FPL points scored if they can win their tie and draw level with us on 15 points, however they are behind in their game with Finland.

    Finland 349 - 303 Bosnia and Herzegovina

    Finland Differentials: Williams, Sigurdsson, Ayew
Bosnia and Herzegovina Differentials: Ighalo x3

Assuming Ighalo and Nyom score enough points tomorrow to turn both ties it still won't be enough for Bosnia and Herzegovina to topple us. In order for them to finish above us they will also need to score a further 37 points more than us (Portugal) tomorrow in order to win on total FPL points scored. Their remaining differentials (Vs. us) are +1 Ighalo, -1 Nyom & -1 Gomes.

    Phew, complicated...

I'm calling it, Portugal have won UEFA Group B! Força Portugal!

Yeah thanks for letting us know, the scores on the google docs spreadsheet hadn't updated properly when I did my calculations.

Even so, Bosnia and Herzegovina probably wont overtake us on points scored. They now have 321 after autosubs and we have 271, so their +1 Williams, Sigurdsson and Ighalo, need to outscore our +1 Nyom and Gomes today by over 24 points to take the group.

        Feeling confident!
