Fiffsa 5-a-side World Cup Qualifying Week 6

Gameweek 5 of the FIFFSA 5-a-side tournament saw our first confirmed qualifications and exits. However, for the vast majority of the teams, there is everything still left to play for.

We would like to remind everyone of the deadline for submitting in your substitutes. This week, it will be 23:00 GMT on Monday, Jan 11th. We are still receiving some emails after this time and those teams had their 6th player benched as stated in the article. Please email as early as possible as we have limited time to organise the team spreadsheets and update the score centre during Monday night/Tuesday.

Any teamsheets sent to us after 2300 GMT will not be accepted and your 6th player will be benched. No Exceptions!

Gameweek 5 Review

The average team score for this week was 340 points  and as with previous rounds there were some close ties. In particular, the ties between USA v Cayman Islands and Iran v Sri Lanka were decided by a single point.

The biggest win of the week was for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which defeated Russia by a massive 71 points in a match that ended 366 to 295.

With five games having being played, Tahiti remain the sole side with a 100% record and are secure for qualification. Thirteen other sides have won four of their first five matches and will expect to qualify although some still remain at risk depending on certain scenarios. In contrast, UAE and Ivory Coast, still maintain a 100% record of losing. Qualification may no longer be possible but I’m sure they will be looking to avoid a whitewash over the next two games.

The luckiest team award goes to France, who scraped a win with only 324 points (16 points below average).

The unluckiest team award goes to the Cayman Islands, who lost their tie against the USA despite scoring 357 points (17 points above average). This would have been enough to win all but 10 ties this week.

The worst benching decision goes to Iceland who benched Gilli Gold who scored 88 its, although it didn’t matter with Iceland edging out the Republic of Ireland.

The presser award for Gameweek 5 goes to Il Consiglieri Wasabi 196 of San Marino for getting the tournament into the christmas spirit. Keep the pressers up! There are so many excellent contributors which have yet to win awards. If you haven’t submitted one before why not submit one this week?

Gameweek 6 Preview

There are lots of exciting ties coming up this week and some teams should be able to secure their spots in the first round proper of the tournament.

A top of the table clash in AFC group B finds New Caledonia taking on Singapore. Both sides are level on 12 points at the top of the table along with Australia and will be crucial in deciding who tops this group. The winner will guarantee qualification while the loser may need a result in the final game depending on other results.

In the CAF group, four teams are currently on 12 points. Two of these, Zambia and Djibouti go head to head, again, the loser of the tie will then need a win in the final game to secure qualification.

A more detailed summary of this can be found on the player history tab which includes the rank history of every player in the tournament at our team sheets and tables spreadsheet.

Further Information

A quick reminder of the format. Each gameweek, teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each teams’ gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for. This week’s games can be found here.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 2300 (GMT) of Monday, Jan 11th otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the kick-off on Tuesday evening at our score centre spreadsheet.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

Does one team qualify via fair play award?
I reckon San Marino should get it for being fair and benching their best player every week

They were the favourites to go through at the beginning. Looks unlikely now unless Deeney + Ighalo rack up 30 odd points.

Hmm.. Scotland are likely out and their score would top AFC B.

Finland who are 50 ahead of anyone in AFC B are not safe if Iggy scores well...

I came up with an idea. It is to late for this tournament but if another took place I would suggest a place in the next round based upon the press conferences in someway. Thereby encouraging more press conferences!

I like it but totally arbitrary of course. May become the next controversy, i.e. Balders Gate.

It would need to be quantifiable in some way. A vote system or something otherwise you are right people would argue. But anything which helps keep interest would be good.

Is Germany gonna do the unthinkable in Group B? It all comes down to Ighalo. We started the week in 6th. Our only two options were Bosnia beating Finland (which isn't happening) or Poland beat Scotland and we beat Greece and beat Poland's score by 31. Never thought the latter condition would be possible. But as it stands, we're 30 points ahead of Poland with an extra Ighalo left. Crazy group it is! Scotland could be heading out with a very high GF column. Real unlucky that'd be. They had 2005 points at the last update.

Team Poland, I think the Smalling bonus puts us 31 points ahead of you this week making us 1 point ahead of you in the goals for column.

      • 8 Years
      8 years, 4 months ago

Yes it does, didn't know about this Smalling bonus point. So basically, to qualify, we need:

      A) Nyom to ouscore Cathcart and 2xIghalo by 1 point. Then you are out.

      B) 3xIghalo to outscore Ayew + 28 points, so Bosnia defeat Finland and in that case every team with 12pts would qualifiy (Poland, Germany and Bosnia)

Both are not likely happen. I imagine we are the only teams in the tournament that may not qualify winning 4/7 games and finishing with 12 points...

Cruel that a team with 12 point goes out. Feel for Scotland too. Their goals for column apparently tops some group.

Latest standings before Monday night's differentials, but including auto-subs and C replacements:

I like the scoring as it is but maybe in future years there should be additional 'wild cards' to the tournament proper for a few of the highest scoring teams (in terms of FPL points) that fail to qualify.

All of you out there.. Keep an eye on UEFA C. Thrilling games, England-Netherlands-Israel fighting it out for last one spot. Italy, Iceland, Belgium look set to progress. But look how close the ties are for England and Netherlands. Super competition and a thrilling finale awaits. Israel have been highest aggregate scorers of this group, yet, they find themselves at the mercy of other teams to qualify at 4th spot. We do hope England & Netherlands screw up, of course, but we would have no complaints if we fail to qualify. Israel thanks all the UEFA C teams and especially the organizers for such an entertaining tournament.

It's impossible to describle how unlucky we have been over this qualification. We won 3 out of 3 last games, and ended up with 12 points. Of course, we got eliminated by the bloody Germans on 'points for'. Exactly 6 points. Just unbelieveable.

Well done for all other teams in the group, you've made it surely the most exciting group just until the end. Good luck to Portugal, Bosnia, Finland and yes, even Germany, in the next stages. You've made a fantastic comeback in the last gameweek and you definitely deserve to go through.

Also, a big Thank You! for the organizers for all the amazing effort put into this tournament, as well as to every active FFS member posting under the FIFFSA articles, especially to those writing some crazy press conferences. NEWSFLASH:
After losing their only friendly and the opening game of the qualification stage by a combined 75+ points, the Republic of Djibouti took six games out of six and cruised to the top of the CAF, thanks to a crushing defeat suffered by Egypt on the last day of qualifiers. This may come as a bit of a surprise due to the fact that the captain is hovering around the 1 mil mark . . .
Onward and upward, Shoremen of the Red Sea!!!

we seem to have a great contrast here!

We beat you guys in the friendly and then proceeded to lose the next 4 games in the qualification. Zero points after 4 games and then won the next 3. Somehow still made it.

Maybe we'll see you again for a rematch!

An unexpected victory for Tahiti tonight to make it 6 wins out of 7 and secure first place in AFC/OFC A.

With autosubs taken into account the equation going into Swansea v Watford was:

    Japan = 9 points + Gomes + Nyom

    Tahiti = Williams.

2 pts for Gomes, 1pt for Nyom and 15pts for Williams, and somehow victory was snatched from the jaws of defeat!

A great boost going into the Finals - go Tahiti!!!!

Gotta admit we're not really motivated for the WC now after being pushed down from top spot by a 1 point loss to Argentina last week, only to score a massive 351 this week and be pushed further down to 4th spot and into the worst seeding pot because all results went the wrong way for us.

Seeing the likes of Singapore winning their game with 257 points is heartbreaking stuff.

Highest scoring loser this week. Needed Uruguay to win, they didn't. Needed Bolivia to win, not even a Bench Boost AND a Triple Captain could help them nor us.

They scored a massive 344 this week. With 30 points in hand.

Germany needed every inch of a ridiculous 380 score to beat Poland.

Egypt tested out their youth academy for the final game of the qualifiers and lost badly to south Africa
There were a few bright performers but not good enough for the competition
we are known for giving youth its head and so we aren't disappointed
Bummed to lose out on top spot and well played to the other four qualified teams.
We'll see you all in Thailand. 🙂

'Hello and welcome to this week's scoutcast, my name is Mark and tonight I have Jonty and Andy with me'

    'Hello' chirps Jonty quite cheerfully

'Hell' *cough, cough* 'oo' Andy sputters out.

'My word' interrupts Mark, 'You don't sound too healthy Andy, maybe you've got the mysterious bug that's ravaged the games ruining our best laid plans'

'Welcome listeners and viewers, tonight we'll be dissecting the previous gameweek, which to be honest, won't take long considering only 2 games went ahead due to this virus that seems to not only be sweeping the nation, but the world'

'We'll also have the goals immanent table from Jon.........'

Mark is distracted and stops mid sentence as Andy, who must have muted himself, stands up to try to control a coughing fit and seems to now collapsed,,, face down, not breathing.

The accompanying chat room for the scoutcast also goes deadly still, no one wants to comment, or believe what they've just witnessed. Irrespective of being a Man Utd fan, andy was much loved in the FFS community. Suddenly one of his fingers twitches, almost involuntary, followed by another.

'Andy my friend, are you there?' Shouts Mark, ' Go and see a doctor'

    No response from Andy.

The screen flickers and goes black, not just youtube but it seems every TV across the globe is now deadly silent and as black as night. Radios which had previously been churning out pre programmed pop tunes fell silent. Simultaneously each screen or audio transmitter that could receive and broadcast a signal sparked into life. A dishevelled woman appeared fiddling with an ear piece whilst seeming talking to someone who was not in view and sobbing gently.

‘What? We’re on air?’ She says whilst wiping away a tear.

Looking at the camera with a steely gaze she clears her throat and begins.

‘Ladies, gentlemen, fellow citizens. Today is an important day in the history of mankind, today we become one against a common enemy. The flu epidemic that has been sweeping the globe, is not the flu. I regret to inform you it i now a highly contagious alien disease has been injected into our societies. It causes death within 4 - 6 days and after death the bodies seem to be reanimated and flesh hungry. We ask all citizens to trust in your leaders. We have currently deployed 32 teams from the world's top countries to seek out the source and cure of this disease. Once the cure is obtained we will be able to stop and reverse all effects. Please do not leave your homes until further notice is received. All people found to be outside will be deemed potential threats and terminated without warning, until we have this situation under control.’

As suddenly as she came, she went. Muzak appeared in her place.

Here is the account of each of these 32 teams in their quest to save the world, and what happened to them.

    Portugal

Djerbil, called Jose’s Magic Omelette. Keep an eye out, as they cruised through the air on a military helicopter. We’re not only fighting the infected whilst we try to find this cure, we’ve also got to keep an eye out for Italy contacting us in their quest to find the source. One is no good without the other. ‘Yes boss’ was all he heard, and wanted to hear, in return. Jose wasn’t sure for the first time in his life. In his team he was sure, they were the best of the best, not only in Portugal but possibly the world. What he wasn’t sure about was his enemy. Alien? Zombie like disease? He just couldn’t get his head around it. Big Sum broke him out of his thoughts.

‘Chief, we’ve located where we think the aliens are hiding the cure’, he shows a map to his fearless leader and points and a grid square.’

‘Are you sure?’ jose says in response. Big sum nods, ‘Ok, tell the pilot, let find out if you’re right!’

    Djibouti, Egypt, Zambia

‘Our leaders are so great’ bellowed Depay time to Socca_philsopha and son of tyronne.

‘How ingenius to combine the best of the best from our 3 nations so we can be victorious and save the world and forever be heros in the world’s eyes. Stupid Seychelles for not wanting to join us!’

‘Yes’ agreed Son of Tyronne, ‘We will beat these aliens and make them never want to come back to our planet again!’

As soon as he said that a scream echoed through the great hall the men were arming themselves in. It seems Jonnyleeds had turned and bitten AK. within minutes all of these strong, brave, virile african soldiers were gone as we know them. So tragic that an attempt to combine strength had led to almost a third of the worlds teams wiped out in a matter of minutes.

    Australia
Tim Howard’s beard passed the detonator to Jeanz. His leader accepted it and connected it to the bomb. After 4 days of hard travel they knew that they had no other options after this. If the cure was not in this nuclear bunker in the isolated island in the philippines they would not be able to look any further as they’d run out of fuel, food and most of their water. With the mainland not responding for the last two days they knew they were not going to live to tell this tale. They had accepted their fate. They did not want fame, they simply wanted to do their duty and save the world. t a safe distance they detonated the bomb leaving a clean hole in the side of the bunker.

‘Is it there boss Neenyg asked?’

Jeanz low sobs said it all. ‘No my friend, we tried, let's hope our colleagues around the world succeeded where we failed.’

    Argentina

LeBron stopped eating his prime argentinian steak to accept the note from the soldier that had just approached his table. His men also stopped whilst they looked at him. He read the note and dismissed the soldier.
‘Men’ he stated, ‘What we have to achieve next some might say impossible, some might say improbable. I say that me and my team of fine argentinian gauchos will complete with ease’

‘What is is master?’ Giggs Boson asked

Doorsa,, the computer whizz kid, who was easily identifiable by always wearing claret and blue had already booted up his laptop ready to analyse whatever mission lay ahead of them. His fingers were poised on his keys ready to type as soon as LeBron started talking.

Next to him the team medic, Dr. Wakey waited with anticipation whilst uttering the word UFPL randomly under his breath. No team would be complete without a mad doctor in their midst after all.

‘Simple’ Lebron stated, ‘We just had to save the world from an alien zombie outbreak’

    Columbia

Are you serious? Ayew Serious thought. Why are we doing this? This must mean almost certain death for his team. Sent out to find a source for a deadly disease that has no known cure yet that didn’t even originate on this planet. Be strong,, don’t let his men see his weakness.

‘AZ!’ he shouted in despair. Put down that Columbian marching powder and listen to me. We’ve finally been recognised by the world. They're depending on us to locate the source the aliens used to infect our beautiful planet with this deadly disease. Are you ready?

‘Yes Sir’ his men said in unison.

‘Good’ he replied whilst filling with pride at how his men reacted,. maybe it was bravery, maybe it was the special columbian medicine,,, he’d never know,,, or care.

‘Bowstring, ready the plane. Manchester is our destination’

    Israel

Sidl weeped quietly as he looked at his men,,, knowing they had failed their mission. Locked away in a palestinian prison, unable to complete the task the world had set them. He hoped others had more success.

    Indonesia

Unfortunately the Indonesian team perished in a freak golf ball and goose fat accident that was too horrific to describe.

    Finland

The finnish team currently are orbiting the earth after their government though they would find the cure for the virus on the alien mothership. Unfortunately for them the aliens have cloaking abilities so they’ll never be spotted and their captain, LjayHAM, took a nasty blow to the head and can’t remember how to guide the craft down to earth.

    Seychelles

Blue Lion looked at his men. Surely they were not human,,, surely they we’re demigods or humanoids made to look human so normal men didn’t feel inferior. Balders sat there waxing his moustache,,,, ready for the battle ahead,,,, knowing his immense brain would solve any problem they faced easily. Cheeseoid a sheep under one arm and a special whistle that summoned Dizzy, Daisy, Dora, Denzel and the crew was as assets any captain would want. Diva was the official recorder of the team. Blogging their exploits so the world would know of their heroic deeds. Badger and Jawain were unknowns to the world but respected and needed to their team mates.

Blue Lion knew they’d get far, but would they succeed? Only time would tell….

    Iceland

    http://theletsgoladies.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Meanwhile-in-Iceland.jpg

    Uruguay, Peru, Italy

Chenku trembled with anticipation and his men bloodied from their battle with Peru stood over their dead bodies.

‘Men, now we have shown we deserve to be classed as an elite team’ Let’s go out there and show them what we’ve got. We’ve got to find this cure no matter what. Oghash, set a course for Rome. The italian team led by the infamous Gooner97 have a lead that could bring us the cure and ensure we’re never forgotten whilst humanity lives.

    Costa Rica

KJ and his team tragically died whilst investigating the lead that whales might be the source of the outbreak. Unfortunately they were wrong and they found out too late it was not a good idea to blow them up.

    https://ak-hdl.buzzfed.com/static/2013-11/enhanced/webdr01/27/10/anigif_enhanced-buzz-7468-1385565319-12.gif

    Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, Tahiti

Jaffalicious knew it wouldn’t be easy, but knew he had to try. He had managed to convince Lateriser12, Daas and MemphisDeepay7 to join him in his travels to the Sahara desert to seek out the cure for the disease which he had been reliably informed was there.

    Belgium

Eden Hazardous held onto SAB as he hacked his way through the madagascan jungle. He cursed under his breath, he hated the jungle. Sweat was pouring out of every single pore in his body, the heat was unbearable. He hoped that his chief intelligence officer A-VB had gotten some good information and they’d find the family on monkeys that were responsible for this outbreak and finally put to rest the stupid idea that it had been caused by aliens. He knew,, as did his team,, that there were enough strange things on earth without needing to create panic by adding aliens into the mix. He had sobbed only 2 days ago whilst he watched his wife,, his dear beloved wife, munch happily on his dead daughters leg like it was a wing fresh from KFC. That was the only motivation he needed to make sure he would be the one to stop this affecting more families and causing more heartbreak.

    India, Wales, N-Ireland, Norway, Montenegro

All 5 of these teams combined to form a super team and headed off to a secret location to try to find the cure for the disease. Their success or location is currently unknown as they are attempting to avoid the gaze of the aliens. They are however alive and still in with a chance of success.

Malaysia, New Caledonia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bosnia, Germany

The tragic 6 teams all died in a freak explosion to graphic to describe.

To summarise 16 teams are still alive and in the quest for either the cure or the source. 16 teams perished in a brave attempt to help. Part 2 will follow before the next gameweek.
