The Weekend Team News

Dele Alli is back in training but will be assessed ahead of Spurs’ clash with Watford. Andy Carroll could be back for West Ham, Palace are hit with long-term injuries to a couple of key midfielders, whilst West Brom’s Jonny Evans is ruled out for a fortnight with hamstring problems.

Dele Alli will be assessed tomorrow after being withdrawn early on due to dizziness in the midweek win over Norwich. Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed the midfielder is back in full training, saying “all the signals are good” ahead of the home encounter against Watford. Ryan Mason will also be assessed as he steps up his recovery from injury.

Andy Carroll returned to training on Monday and will be assessed ahead of West Ham’s trip to Southampton. New loan signing Emmanuel Emenike is also available after receiving his work permit, whilst Angelo Ogbonna will “hopefully” be fit, according to Slaven Bilic, after missing the midweek win over Villa due to illness. Sam Byram has been ruled out for a week after sustaining a small injury in training.

Tomas Rosicky could be out for up to three months after suffering an injury setback whilst on duty for the arsenal under 21 side. Danny Welbeck is set to step up his recovery with a run-out for the Gunners’ second-string later today.

Palace midfielders James McArthur (ankle ligaments) and Jason Puncheon (hamstring) are set for lengthy spells on the sidelines, with the former likely to miss the rest of the season. Joe Ledley remains out for two more weeks with a thigh injury, though Alan Pardew reckons Yohan Cabaye has a “very good” chance of returning from injury, whilst Dwight Gayle is available after returning to full training. Emmanuel Adebayor is “almost ready” to start and will have another cameo appearance, though Connor Wickham misses out through suspension.

Claudio Ranieri will make a late decision on the fitness of new signing Daniel Amartey ahead of Leicester’s trip to City tomorrow lunchtime.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe reckons Josh King – who made an appearance off the bench in midweek – is now up to full fitness. Junior Stanislas remains a doubt, though, with the Cherries set to make a late decision on the winger’s fitness.

Jeremain Lens is a major doubt for Sunderland after being forced off with a groin problem in midweek. Yann M’Vila is expected to shrug off a foot problem to continue in the centre of the park, whilst Younes Kaboul is back in the squad after overcoming a hamstring injury.

Jonny Evans has been ruled out for a couple of weeks with the hamstring injury that forced him off against Swansea. James Morrison and Chris Brunt also remain on the sidelines for the Baggies, Tony Pulis has confirmed.

Ki Sung-Yueng has been ruled out of Swansea’s clash with Palace after being forced off with concussion in the 1-1 draw with West Brom. New manager Francesco Guidolin has revealed that Alberto Paloschi “could” be in line for a first start on the back of an impressive sub performance at the Hawthorns.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

          Sorry. They are contenders in every sense.
          But really, as our stattos are saying, they won't win it.

            I would add a "probably" in that last sentence. I think it's more a case of the more experienced football watchers saying this. We've seen this all before from stronger sides challenging but failing at the last.

            Will they or won't they, we don't know. I have been discounting them to choke since I don't know how long, but guess what, they aren't doing it. And thing is, they are outperforming teams. Never once did I feel while watching them against Pool or Chelsea or others that they'll lose against them.

        Back in GW 10, when Leicester were scoring a lot but also were conceding a lot, if someone told you Leicester would be top of the pile with 3 points extra after 14 games, would you have believed them?

        Never discount anything in football.

      I agree with you mate...there is that "X factor" in that Leicester team that can't be described by numbers. Their team clicked and they have a chance to win it as much as City or Arsenal. They went really good through Christmass period and lots of games in short time and now that they are out of the cups they can focus on only one thing. City and Arsenal have injury problems and are playing europe and FA and league cup(City) so they will loosing points every now and then.

      They are top but they are yet to go through any real pressure. The last bit of the season where they are expected to win will in my opinion see them falter.

      Let's see how they cope in the title run it. I wouldn't mind see them winning it I just can't see it happening

    8. LeicesterA

      Everyone continually expects Leicester to falter.

      The same thing happened when they faced Spurs, City, United, Everton etc within a few weeks. That was the 'test' apparently, they'd fall right down apparently. Well, we know what happened...

    Need some input guys - choose one:

    A) Lukaku + Gosling -> Paloschi + San(c)hez -4 (currently Kun(c)+Kane(vc))

Obviously you couldn't save your team and preload it for that week but it has a handy planning tool. Have changed laptops since I last used it and don't have the link now 🙁

          This. Surely if he's in contention for this weekend, then for GW 27 he must be fit. However, do you think he'll get his place back in the XI?

          He's actually going to be an important player if he can, as he has no blank gw27, and if Everton beat Bournemouth in FA Cup, which they really should, then he'll have no GW 30 blank which would be great!

          Vardy has superb fixtures after next few and Kane will have Europa league concerns too (lots of games)

    Just had a look at some stats to try help the Kane vs Aguero (C) decision and Kane definitely comes out on top.

    What are your thoughts on this people?

      my feelings are that Kane's stats make hjim a great cpatain choice
      Kun is Kun is Kun is Kun....
      Firmino is the differential's choice.

      Waiting for Captain Sensible article...

      I'm going Kane as need any differential I can get.

      Aguero is aguero though and opposition just doesn't matter

    I think this is a brilliant argument for captaining Firmino:

    I'm sorely tempted to take the armband off Aguero

    Chaps, definitely ditching Baines and Ighalo as rival has started copying my team

    Best replacements?

    Thinking Vardy and Fuchs or Austin (if fit) and Zouma

      It's not Payet i have trust issues with, it's Slaven playing him on the wing

    Have just enough to bring in Zouma for Evans, Zouma should be nailed yeah?

      Will get the odd benching but he's definitely part of the preferred CB pairing

      He appears the preferred starter

    Sterling + Lukaku > Sanchez + Vardy worked well on Wednesday eve. 0.4m TV swing already...

    Butland, Foster
    Bellerin, Alderweireld, Sagna, Evans, Huth
    Ozil, Payet, Mahrez, Alli, Stanislas
    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

    1FT, 2.9 in bank

    A) Evans -> VVD
    B) Lukaku -> Vardy
    C) Save FT

    Ta!

      All decent options. I have done B on the basis that it will need to happen soon anyway.
