The ScoutCast – Episode 184 – Foresight

Foresight – that precious gift that that can bless any Fantasy Football manager. We need it now more than ever.

As Jonty, Andy and myself struggle with the countless permutations offered up by the looming double Gameweeks, we can only hope that our mutterings and musings come laced with just a little dash of foresight.

Steered by an array of community questions targeting the possibilities of the fixture pile-up to come, the three of us discuss the best-laid plans in attempt to jolt our squads out of the current rut.

Around the early double Gameweek discussion, we chew over the optimum blank-dodging strategies as Sigurdsson, Spurs and Stoke top the menu of options. Then, inevitably, we turn attentions to the immediate job at hand, as we preview the weekend and pinpoint potential clean sheets and “Fantasy Island Risks”.

I've kept Lukaku. I hope he repays the faith vs Villa in GW28.

Could be a great differential, just had enough of him after captain fails.

Yeah, he's trolled me too, but 8.8m and he's having the best season of his career. 2 x DGW's to come so no point using a transfer now unless bringing back on a WC.

I did Aguero to Vardy this week with the intention of Lukaku to Aguero in 29 to utilise the Villa fixtures for both.

If your keeping Lukaku, who are your other front 2?

Stoke are home to Newcastle and have a GW 30 so would go Arnie (if fit)

Just did Firmino to Mahrez, felt like there was no more reason to wait...

Now wonder what to do with my other FT... Save, get rid of Moreno or get rid of Barry?

No worries. Out of interest, between Vardy and Mahrez, which would you captain? Tempted by Mahrez due to assists/goals, but Vardy on pens is swaying me.

Vardy purel because Mahrez has given me 1x2 the two times I've captained him. Vardy is more consistent as well IMO

I think Watford away is a tough one!

Personally, I'm glad I don't have the dilemma of owning Daniels. He'll lose you more points than he'll gain you, not wanting to drop him because he takes penalties.

My thoughts are they're all good picks. Are you going by:

      A. volume of responses,
      B. you have a preferred option yourself,
      C. checking the rank of those who respond and judging their advice accordingly, or
      D. all of the above.

      😉

      1. FCSB
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 2 months ago

        A. is current pick, most popular, and likely safest option
        B. only just considered this this morning (im on australian time so the decision needs to be made soon-ish)
        C. an option for the differential i guess, but im sat with a 30 point lead at top of my ML so is it worth rolling the dice?!
        D. I like your name, salter is my surname!!

        🙂

Spooky! I support Chesterfield - they used to play at a ground called Saltergate. Twisted Saltergater is a play on the lyrics of Prodigy's Twisted Firestarter... You didn't ask for my life's history, but there you have it 😀

For what it's worth, I'm currently going Vardy(c), and am considering Mahrez ahead of Payet.

          1. FCSB
            • 8 Years

haha thanks - i used to live down the road in Lincoln!! anyway, back to FF...

agreed... I think Payet is in good form, but he is coming up against a Sunderland team who have found their feet a bit, so not an easy call whether hes gonna score big...

toss up between vardy and mahrez, i think vardy is more nailed on to get a goal, but mahrez has the scope to be explosive and get a goal and assist and bonus points... vardy safe option, mahrez the ballsy option!!!

            1. Twisted Saltergater
              • 14 Years

summed it up perfectly. If Mahrez had penalty duties, he'd get the armband for sure, so yep, I guess I've got my balls firmly tucked away.

Thanks, I think you're right, and Sou have been a little lucky / very good keeping to get the last 4 CS. Also Mahrez has been a bit lucky - not that many shots on target or chances created.

You're not going to like this but I brought Mahrez in with a FT this week. With Leicester's next 4 fixtures (and form), a defender, mid and forward seem essential.

Isn't there anyone else you can bench from your front 8? Maybe take a risk with benching Alli perhaps, if you have him?

Read somewhere that Afellay has had more shots then the Arnie or Shaqiri in their last four and also also created the same amount of chances.

Here's my squad atm for GW27...have 2 FT and 3m in the bank.

    .......................Butland
    .....Bellerin - Alderweireld - Simpson
    Alli - Sanchez - Payet - Ozil - Stanislas
    ..................Vardy - Aguero

    McCarthy; Kane, Ward, VvD

I'm currently looking at Stanislas > Mahrez this week and running a 352.

Since I have 9 players already for GW30 (12 if Arsenal loses to Hull) should I consider taking this opportunity to use my 2nd FT to move the likes of Ward now while I have a chance? Palace not been awe-inspiring defensively AND have a blank on 30. But who to bring in...

    1. Twisted Saltergater
      • 14 Years

Hey Sinik, as you're well set for GW30, could you not use the FT's between now and then as luxury transfers? I'd be considering Aguero > Costa and benching Stanislas. You can always get Aguero back in 2 weeks.

I don't think it's wise to go into this week without Mahrez though..

I COULD do both (though I think it's a week late for Kun>Costa) and run AOA

Ah, skipped over the Mahrez line. I did exactly the same transfer this week. I'd roll the other transfer then.

Shame Costa broke his bloody nose 2 days before he played! I would've got him in and captained him if I was sure he was playing. In the end, I did Kane > Lukaku(c) and it backfired spectacularly. Still, you win some you lose some.

likewise! I was 100% set on Kun > Costa at the time!

him getting injured ended up making me do Sagna > VvD's 9 points so it was fine, but yeah..

      5 Mar - Premier League - Tottenham (A)
8 Mar - FA Cup Fifth round - Hull City (A)

All QF matches will definitely be played 11-14 March.

If they weren't going to play this one on one of those dates then they would have fixed the 5th round replay for one of these dates instead of for 8th March.

Why not? It could be 5 or 6 days if it's played on the Sunday or Monday, and they should have already made provisional arrangements. The other match only needs to be cancelled - the new date for that can be decided later.

Arsenal/Hull vs Watford is set for March 12th at 3pm, at least according to the BBC.

Makes sense, too. If Arsenal-Watford were to take place at a later date (gw34) then the FA would run out of weeks to have a replay.

The match against West Brom is scheduled for 5:30pm on Saturday - for policing/steward reasons, wouldn't the Cup match (if it goes ahead) logically take the same spot?

I really can't see that 6th round FA Cup match happening 4 days after Arsenal v Hull has been decided. If Watford were playing at home to one of either Arsenal or Hull then it's much more straightforward regarding policing, tickets, travel, etc. but it's not.

The BBC currently lists all 4 QF matches as 3pm on March 12th, but they could actually be any time during the period 11-14 March, depending on when the TV companies decide to broadcast them.

But, as you say, they can't realistically be any later than that.

Sanchez is a player that I'm a bit afraid of not owning this week. ManU's defence is depleted... is Smalling expected to be fit?
Mahrez is a great option for the rest of the season, though. I'd save that transfer for a week.
      I'd captain Vardy.

Probably. What other strikers are available if Martial is out? Depay isn't really a striker, but he could be fielded up top, I guess.

I did it last week. Costa could easily blank this game so relying on him getting a big haul against Norwich (and Aguero blanking at Liverpool)

I'd look at taking a risk some other place - or maybe just do a boring transfer and upgrade defender/gk maybe with 34 planning in mind
