Scout Notes – Gameweek 32 – Sunday

Wes Morgan grabs the only goal of the match as Leicester take a step nearer to the title with a fourth successive 1-0 win. Elsewhere, Anthony Martial leaps onto our double Gameweek radars by firing United to victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

Morgan wins it for Foxes

Leicester City stretched out their lead at the top to seven points by way of their fourth consecutive 1-0 win.

Wes Morgan did the damage for the hosts with his first goal of the campaign, latching onto Christian Fuchs’ cross. The latter now boasts four assists and has amassed the second-most bonus points (21) of any defender on the Fantasy market.

Although the Foxes lack a double Gameweek, they have now recorded shut-outs in seven of their previous eight home ties and remain at the King Power Stadium for two of the next three Gameweeks, encouraging investors in their defence to hold tight.

In the wake of his blank against Saints, Jamie Vardy has now failed to net in six successive starts, which will prompt a portion of his 54% ownership reinvest their funds in Romelu Lukaku before Everton’s back-to-back double Gameweeks.

As for Riyad Mahrez, his explosive potential (11 double-figure hauls) should deter many owners from maxing out on double Gameweek players.

Saints struggle on the road again

Southampton were stifled by the Foxes’ regimented defence and were only able to muster two shots on target throughout the encounter.

Ronald Koeman’s side have failed to score in three of their last five away matches and now hit the road in three of the next five Gameweeks, which includes trips to Everton and Spurs, in addition to a home encounter with Man City. Their lack of a double Gameweek and poor defensive record of late (nine goals conceded and zero clean sheets in six) render their squad a relative non-factor during the final stages of the season.

Martials notches United’s winner

Manchester United remain in the hunt for a Champions League berth as they carved out a third 1-0 victory in four outings.

Anthony Martial proved to be the difference between the two sides, bagging his third goal (Timothy Fosu-Mensah assist) in seven starts. Given that Wayne Rooney’s imminent return makes Marcus Rashford a rotation risk, the 7.6-priced Martial represents the choice route into the Red Devils’ attack for their mouth-watering double Gameweek (AVL & CRY).

Man United’s tenth home clean sheet of the campaign underlined the merits of targeting their defence during the double. On that note, both Daley Blind (fatigue) and Marco Rojo (jet-lag) were subbed off at Old Trafford, highlighting the fact that Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the safest options for Gameweek 33 wildcarders.

Out-of-sorts Toffees fail to impress

Everton suffered their third straight defeat and have now tasted victory just once since Gameweek 26.

Romelu Lukaku had an afternoon to forget against Louis van Gaal’s charges, mustering a solitary off-target attempt. Nonetheless, the Belgian marksman is sure to be one of the most popular pick-ups ahead of the Toffees’ aforementioned successive doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat &cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU & liv) – indeed, he already ranks top for “transfers in” (62,000) at the time of writing.

For those eyeing up the Toffees midfielders, Aaron Lennon (5.6) was intriguingly handed a central support role behind Lukaku as Gerard Deulofeu started on the right wing. Lennon then switched back to the flank after the young Spaniard was withdrawn just after the hour mark.

Roberto Martinez switched things up at the back, benching Ramiro Funes Mori to facilitate John Stones’ reinstatement in a four-man defence. In terms of tapping into Everton’s backline potential, goalkeeper Joel Robles (4.3) is the standout pick by virtue of his budget price tag, while skipper Phil Jagielka (5.1) – who fired two attempts from inside the box yesterday – seems the safest route into the defence.

    Right.

Who is binning Mahrez? Is this the time or has DGW fever made me into a madman?

The transfer would be Mahrez+Milner (a few have commented on the latter hehe) for Lanzini+Coutinho.

Looks great... but am I mad for going without the Algerian Messi, likely for the whole season now?

    So tough.

Mahrez has great fixtures in 33 and 35. He is also the best player in the game.

In my opinion he should be kept till the fixtures turn from 36. That is especially true when I see people taking hits to get rid of players for 35, when retaining Mahrez would retain one of the pedigree players in a week of blanks.

Riyad has only 2 games to barkleys 4 games. But he can easily outscore him in 1 game.

Hi people. Hi a poor man so my wc team might not look as fancy as others. What do you make of this lot?

    Robles Darlow
    Otamendi Darmian Gabriel Delaney Moreno
    Sanchez Ozil Coutinho Payet Barkley
    Lukaku Sturridge Mitrovic

Thanks, yes I could. Otamendi seems the only safe City defender though, have skimped with Gabriel over Bellerin.

Would just ignore City defence and downgrade Otamendi to a cheaper DGW alternative.

If you're poor get Darlow or Hen, or do what I'm doing and GW35 FT DDG > Migs (other keeper is Robles)

I'm not poor, "problem" is not having a keeper in 35. Will only have 2 FT's to remove Bolasie+Martial, so any thing else is a -4.

    Apologies for the long post…

Im stuck in a bit of a dilemma regarding Martial.

My only option really is to do Kane > Martial for the DGW. Usually I wouldn't go with him but given his two nice fixtures he is proving to hard to ignore.

    My current WC team is:

    Mignolet - Robles

    Smalling - Ward - Bellerin - Sakho - Fuchs

    Mahrez - Payet - Sanchez - Coutinho - Lennon

    Aguero - Lukaku - Kane.

It gives me 12 DGWers thus keeping 3 x SGW'ers (Mahrez, Kane, Fuchs)

    Now my dilemma…

If I bring in Martial for Kane, then Im going to want to bring Kane back in for GW35 - WBA H and obviously cover for the Man U blank. Problem is, Im a little short in cash to do such a move without tinkering elsewhere so I would have to sacrifice Smalling to either Kyle Walker/Danny Rose or a Chelsea defender to afford a instant return of Kane for GW35. Basically, It would involve me taking a -4 using my 2FTS plus one more FT to get 11 players out including Kane.

If however, I ignore the lure of Martial and keep with Kane then in theory it would make my life a little bit easier considering Id only need to replace Lennon and Smalling to gain 11 players for GW35. I would only really need to do Lennon > Alli/Chelsea mid and Smalling back to Alderweireld.

Pure greed suggests to me to load up on more DGWers for the fun of it but in my mind, forward planning for future GW's, the addition of Martial seems like it could throw up some issues for my side and force me into a few hits along the way.

Just as an overview to my season Im currently 160 points clear in my cash ML and sitting just outside of the top 1k somehow!, so this season has been my best to date so in reality I want to try and see out the season on a high and not make too many unnecessary gambles.

So in conclusion Im stuck on whether to Martial or not! Do I live a little or play it safe and keep Kane in my team?, can anyone help me out with some advice?

Congratulations on the great rank! That is one of the most sensible teams I've seen on here.

I think it depends on what your goals are this season. Your cash league is evidently sewn up, so that's no concern, it just depends whether you're looking to shoot for the stars and risk missing, or consolidate a finish just inside the top 1K. Either option makes complete sense, and with the team above I'd say you're looking at the second option.

As for your question, I don't mind the Kane -> Martial -> Kane yo-yo, even for a hit. It means you get the best of both worlds - a DGW striker with great fixtures, and the reliable (and potentially harmful) Kane in his plum fixture right after. I say go for it!

      Best of luck 🙂

    A word on ditching Mahrez.

33 and 35 look very strong for him. Even 34 looks good to me - West Ham aren't exactly that solid lately.

37 and 38 are also strong for him for me, despite the red ticker. I'll definitely keep him until 35, and then reassess - they could have the title won by then!

    A) Mahrez + Mitrovic
    B) Lingard + Martial?

    WC team:

    DDG - Mignolet
    Otamendi - Monreal - Bellerin - Ward - Simpson
    Sanchez - Payet - Coutinho - Mahrez - Lanzini
    Aguero - Lukaku - Mitrovic

    0.2 ITB

Lukaku is the only Everton player but the reasoning is that they don't really have anything to play for... This is the same reason that I don't want to triple on Liverpool.

Is it bad form to change my team after seeing Aqua's ? . I switched Kane , Mahrez and Clyne for Mitrovic , KDB and Monreal after seeing his . It's a better team tbh

The absence of Kane is a complete howler, and makes your team much less Abel. 😉

      Me likey.

      Monreal -> Bellerin
      Rojo -> Fuchs 😀

You could downgrade Coutinho / Mitrovic / Robles if needed methinks.

I see that a lot of WC teams now don't have Mahrez in....what changed? Must admit ditching Mahrez, helps with navigating the DGW's and GW35 blanks also Defence is where I'm struggling for DGW players, so putting in Fuchs and ditching Mahrez, helps my defence too.

Rashford went a bit back-heel crazy yesterday didn't he!

I can't imagine what would possess LVG to drop him in such good form, but then it is LVG 🙁

Robles/Smalling over DDG/Jags makes more sense to me.

Delaney eurgh - prefer Gabriel (very likely nailed now)

Bolasie over Barkley for me but that's more preference.

      Solid overall

Cheers. Can't get Gabs though due to having Iwobi as my 5th Arsenal. Delaney isnt a very nice pick really now I think about it.

Other than Gomes are any of the Watford defence safe from rotation?

Cathcart, Nyom and Aké have all missed some games but was this due to injury or rotation?

Had Gomes all season but now considering a Cech & Robles pairing for the rest of the season as Gomes & Robles both blank in GW35, may have to reassess though if it means I cant rely on my Watford cover to play both games in their two DGWKs.

Cathcart most nailed, then Ake, then Nyom

Like I said earlier, as a Watford fan, I wouldn't recommend any of our lot
