The Community Round Up

With just a few days to go until the launch of Euro 2016, the community has been full of useful advice on selecting the key targets for our Fantasy squads. There’s a wealth of guidance from our hot topics posters and the launch of our 2016/17 Membership, which includes internationals data for the first time, has also helped ensure there is some solid statistics for Members table creators to get their teeth into. For our community writers, issues closer to home took precedence as they look back at last season’s chips and ahead to the prospects of the three newly-promoted teams to the Premier League.

The Community Articles

Domestic matters dominated our community articles this week with Kings of Lyon unveiling the final analysis from his Going Out With a Bang league. This was set up to find out how the FFScout community used their chips during the season run in and reveals that those backing Romelu Lukaku in particular were left counting the cost.

Red Lightning, who this week joined the FFScout moderators’ team, has been looking ahead to next season by updating his promoted teams analysis. Stretching back to 2010, this research now includes an assessment of what Hull, Burnley and Middlesbrough can expect from top flight football in 2016/17.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

For our hot topic posters, European matters ruled supreme. Eden Hazardous has been unearthing a raft of key stats for those playing Euro 2016 Fantasy Football to mull over, while Lyonnais has kept on top of the current tournament template that is emerging among the FFScout community.

But not everyone is sticking to the template script. RuthNZ is among those considering investing in Germany’s often benched but shot happy differential Andre Schürrle?

Elsewhere in the community’s Euro 2016 preparation the search for good value defenders continues.

For those looking for more pricey options Spain’s premium picks came under discussion as did whether cutting corners on cost is advisable.

Roy Hodgson’s team selection, which involved omitting Premier League winner Danny Drinkwater and in-form winger Andros Townsend, raised a few eyebrows. The community delivered their verdict on Roy’s choices while we also considered whether England is worthy of Fantasy managers attention irrespective of who plays.

With Hull’s play-off victory securing promotion last weekend, there was still time to get some early preparation in for next season’s Premier League. Mark sparked a discussion on whether yo-yo clubs Hull and Burnley can actually maintain their top flight status in 2016/17.

The Members Tables

This week we unveiled our new season membership which this year includes international data to help pick your Euro 2016 sides. Already those who have snapped up 2016/17 Membership have been busy creating a raft of tables to select the best options during qualifiers and friendlies.

Doosra has created this look at the best defenders, midfielders and deadliest strikers. Among Cheesoid’s tables are his look at those teams that have conceded the most big chances as well as goal scoring defenders. Meanwhile, Fantasy Football Frog has also taken a look at dodgy defences, and some of the strikers and midfielders who are set to profit when they meet them.

For those playing DraftKings Euro 2016 game I’ve constructed this table looking at the high flyers in key scoring categories such as crossing and winning tackles. I’ve also made a table looking at the tournament’s best set-piece takers.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

They needed a Michy, Icardi, Embolo etc.

But I guess it's all short term fixes.

the Rashford thing is a valid point, it remains to be seen if he can our long term main striker. Be interesting to see what he's like when, hopefully, he's relying on getting more than 1, at best 2, chances a game

we need a long term partner for Smalling, a RW and possibly a CM, though I am still keen to see what he can do with Schniederlin and Herrera

Rashford's conversion rate is unsustainable so it'd be interested to see if he improves elsewhere or becomes Macheda

And agreed. But maybe Moureen has other ideas, although those seem the obvious positions

Unsustainable, yes, but definitely he did some things well for a guy of his age. There's certainly room for development, but there's also time for it.

            Qualifying means nothing.

1 point in 3 games at the World Cup, a 0-0 against the mighty Costa Rica, is what Hodgson managed. As a reward for which, the FA extended his contract.

            Go figure that.

              • 10 Years
              7 years, 11 months ago

That's not strictly true. We were pretty bang average in the World Cup qualification. Meanwhile Germany and the Netherlands, by far the two best UEFA teams in qualifying, came 1st and 3rd at the World Cup.

It's not a perfect measure for success of course but you can't dismiss it out of hand as nothing. Otherwise why have the qualification process at all?

It's the French League. Not denying he's been a great player but not many strikers at 35 can deliver what they would have done in younger years and not in a more competitive league

According to sources close to him, it's between Barcelona, PSG and Lyon. Apparently most close to join Lyon now. Probably the certainty of starts draws him there, maybe the fact that he's their product: although his departure from the club didn't go smoothly he's ever kept good relations with the owner and president, they publicly admire each other.

Would it be impossible that Al-Khelaïfi's announcement of changes at Paris draws Ben Arfa to PSG in the end? The Qatari owners want Maghrebian stars at PSG and Al-Khelaïfi seems to be a fan of Ben Arfa. But it will depend on the coach too, whether he'll play. Blanc doesn't seem to be a big fan and I find it hard to believe he'd play much under Simeone if they changed manager as rumoured.

It's a bit different than most, but not sure. 5mil for Romanian defender, not for me. How many goals will Wales score playing 5 at the back. Perisic and Payet preferred to Pogba/Rakitic here. Sanches is useless as he won't play. How will the Swiss manager see Seferovic as he got a red and didn't play today, no idea.

Ouch, thanks for the comments, will take them on board. Romania have been built very defensively over qualifying. Will Payet start, or will it be Martial? Coin toss between Perisic and Rakitic. Sanches is cheap, unless you can recommend a starter for £4.5m? Who will the Swiss play upfront instead?

They played against rubbish and if you have Switzerland and French attacker in your team do you really believe in them? 😉 Payet should be gold, but one to monitor and we will see their starting xi. Downgrade elsewhere to upgrade Sanches. Stanciu, Volkan Sen, Forsberg for 5.5 and Mak for 6m. No idea about Switzerland, just a word of warning there.

Cech too expensive for the team he plays in. Schär preferred to Lich as the latter doesn't really have attacking threat. Double England defence seems crazy, one might be too much. Koke not nailed and no idea who Rybalka is.

For 1 season. He spent 4 years at the only team in a poor league in comparison to PL,which was built around him. Not sure Mourinho will build United around a guy who's nearly 35.

      2. Ruth_NZ
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 11 months ago

Rashford = League Cup and Europa League in the first half of next season. Plenty of games for him there.

If you think Mourinho will play an 18yo regularly in the United 1st team then you don't know José. 😕

        1. GreennRed
          • 12 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

Who said Rashford would be nailed-on? Zlatan has competition for starting spot. Will be involved in a coaching role after next season if rumours are to be believed. Mourinho traditionally invests little faith in younger players but it doesn't mean Ibrahimovic is nailed-on all PL. He can still buy another top striker.

          1. Ruth_NZ
            • 9 Years
            7 years, 11 months ago

That's what they thought at PSG when Ibra had Cavani for competition. Cavani that is, a €64m striker considered to be one of the world's best.

PSG wasn't built around Ibra by default. He forced them to do it by making himself undroppable and quite clearly the main man.

I agree that a 34yo striker isn't usually such a great bet. But I suspect that Ibrahimovic is something of a freak of nature.

maybe, but France is a very different league to PL

he will struggle in the PL and by the time he settles he could be close to retirement.

      3. djenzio
        • 9 Years

FPL towers won't care about that, they will look at his goal scoring record and price him about 11/11.5

Are you Nostradamus ? Previously you said anything less than 13m now 12.5m . Benchmark is Aguero at 13m this season so 10-12 for a player who has never appeared in the PL before.

          • 10 Years

Possibly, I'm still working on my international football modelling. De Gea at 8/1 for golden glove certainly does look a good bet though.

      2. Ruth_NZ
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 11 months ago

But Kane's going to be 11m+ next season, right? I can't see it being less.

In any case, it will be good for FPL to have a premium attacker at United to put into the mix.

What will also be interesting is Martial's price and whether he gets re-categorised as a midfielder, same as Hazard and Sanchez who play in virtually the same position.

          • 10 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

Most likely 11m for Kane yeah and I'll take that begrudgingly unless there are some seriously undervalued strikers elsewhere.

I hope Martial gets reclassified too but I won't hold out for it.

            • 10 Years
            7 years, 11 months ago

Thinking about this again, yeah I'd put 11m as Kane's floor. Whatever it is, I can see Zlatan being 1m premium on top.

Rooney should be a mid next season but he won't be, either will Martial,

      • 10 Years

For reference to this, Falcao started at £11m and Zlatan's recent scoring record breezes past Falcao's pre-united record. Add to that the name recognition cache and Zlatan's gonna be priced super-protectively to avoid him being in absolutely everyone's teams.
