Dugout Discussion – Hungary vs Belgium

Sunday’s third and final fixture sees Hungary and Belgium do battle for the right to take on Wales in the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.

Having bounced back from an opening loss to Italy with wins over Republic of Ireland and Sweden, Belgium are regarded as favourites for the top half of the draw.

The Red Devils were placed fourth for shots on goal over the group stages, though found the net on just four occasions with big-hitters Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard yet to open their accounts in the tournament.

Bernd Storck’s side will be no pushovers, though. Despite firing far less attempts than their opponents across the first three matches (35 to 56), Hungary registered just one attempt on target fewer, firing 16 to Belgium’s 17.

Joint-top scorers with Wales for the group stages, their three-goal salvo against Portugal last time out certainly suggests this evening’s match could be tighter than many expect.

      insane. by that logic if a goalkeeper passes to a defender and the center back runs through everyone without getting touched and scores, then the goalkeeper gets the assist....The websites rules are slightly ambiguous however

        If that happened, I think people would be a bit more understanding

        However the fact De Bruyne made the run forward after receiving the ball inside his own area, played it to hazard around 15 yards into the oppositions box and hazard beat a man cut inside and shot makes it a different scenario.

        Nobody knows what a "dribble", "solo run" means in terms of an assist. Does it mean he dribbles for a certain period of time? or a certain amount of length? Or is it dependant on the amount of people the goalscorer beats?

          Tbf I think your last paragraph sums it up, the rule lacked clarity on the definition of a solo which is not the fault of managers but infact MCDs therefore if in doubt the points should be given and the rule amended/removed.

              It's 6 points if you Captained him. So it does make a difference in some MLs. But yeah, we should let it go and wait for FPL where these kind of mistakes don't happen.

        And the keeper should be awarded an assist. Without that pass to the centreback he wouldn't have scored. So the keeper assisted the goal with his pass.

        It's fairly simple and it's in the rules

        "A player will be credited with a goal assist when he delivers/plays the final pass, cross, header or shot which leads to the goal being scored. This will also apply to set plays (i.e. corner, free kick, throw-in etc)."

            I just watched it. Frankly, Weiss got a lofted pass, which he controlled with a touch, moved and scored.
            Last night, Hazard ran nearly a third of the pitch and went past 3-4 defenders to score. There seems to be a big difference between the two. I think its a valid rule to have.

            I saw the wrong goal. If you mean the one Hamsik scored, even he took just one touch to shimmy past a defender and then shoot. nothing like what Hazard did to score

    As Derdourily mentions above, Hamsik scored this goal earlier in the tournament and Weiss was awarded an assist. It's no different.

    The rules about no assist for the player if he creates his own goal only refers to the goalscorer. It has nothing to do with the assister. It's basically just telling us there's no assist for Hazard if he took a shot and scored from the rebound, or like last night dribbled and scored himself. Nothing to do with the assister, assist should still stand.

      I am not a kdb owner but it does seem a bit unfair. I totally forgot about this but fact that weiss got the assist for that makes the decision not to award kdb with the assist even more ridiculous.

      You can see WEISS 's Goal in that match too , it was a very long pass from hamsik about 50 meters and weiss has runned like Hazard yesterday and dribbled 2 russian defenders and scored the Goal , the assist was given to Hamsik

        he didn't dribble past 2 defender. he touched the ball once to move past the defender. it won't even be counted as a dribble if you look at Opta.
        @Bowstring, he wasn't talking about that goal. even those who appeal can't come to a consensus on what to appeal with

      I have KDB as my captain, but let's be realistic, users have swap their captains, made their changes for today's game, ranks have been updated. It will be surprising if they were to change to award KDB that assist. Tough luck.

    Well I captained KDB, Lukaku and Muller were useless and my punts with Subasic, Dzsudzak need to go.

    Provided that Spain and England go through I can use 4 of my transfers, if they don't then the 6 transfers will be more than enough.

    Should I swap Muller for Gomez and Lukaku for Ronaldo?

                Thanks Wise owl, the rules are conflicting and then you have previous goals/Assists given.

                ASSISTS (from rules)
                A player will be credited with a goal assist when he delivers/plays the final pass, cross, header or shot which leads to the goal being scored. This will also apply to set plays (i.e. corner, free kick, throw-in etc).

                Then further on...

                No assist is given to a player who creates his own goalscoring opportunity (e.g. solo run/dribble).

                It's the second bit that condemns it but one mans solo is another's assist, they've made it hard for themselves by the fact previous Solos have been allowed, if they were consistent here managers could accept it, I'm not sure they have been.

                  The rules doesn't even say that no assist will be awarded when a player makes a solo run. Only that a player can not assist himself by making a solo run.

    After Payet(C) failed, i'll probably look to Dier for atleast a CS. Got Alli as other player going in. Hope he starts as well. 5 points slender lead in the ML with Gudjohnson being my rival's only player today. Come on England, help me out here. 🙂

              Why not?
              I think yere head and shoulders above them, they're bound to run out of steam soon and ye've been unlucky so far.
              For me it is a bread and butter fixture for ye and if ye can't do them, a lot of the staff/players really need to have a good look at themselves.
              I really see it as a comfortable England win Andy.

    On one hand you have players like Zlatan, Gudjohnsson, Dzsudzsak, Robbie Keane, O'Shea battling the odds to remain in the competition and on the other hand you have Messi abandoning his nation where he has such a great squad to play with.
    He should just suck it up and continue...

        I do sympathize with him for missing out yet again.
        But the mental toughness of the Irish, Welsh, Hungarians, etc is incredible.

          Like I said, he retired because of the corruption @ the AFA

            I don't know much of the extent of corruption in AFA. But as an Indian I'm not new to the idea.
            Plus Croatia, Brazil all have problems with their FAs.
            I think it's important to endure. The fans are more important.

      Its an FPL assist I dont think its an assist though. KdB did not set up the goal Hazard made and created the goal
