The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 2 – Friday

Typically, Zlatan Ibrahimovic ensures that he crashes the Paul Pogba party, but the impact of the Frenchman’s energy at Old Trafford was there for all to see. Here’s the Stock Check after Friday’s night’s Gameweek 2 opener.

On the Rise

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Friday’s Gameweek opener has made it almost impossible to ignore him.

While his performances have hardly been vintage, Ibrahimovic’s ability to score goals has been in evidence from the get-go and his impact devastating.

Paul Pogba’s arrival as the legs and possession winner in midfield has almost enabled the Swede to settle in the role he does best – now he can almost afford to drift in and out of the game, cropping up to provide moments of quality in the box where it matters.

Already the most transferred in tonight, it’s Hull City up next and the international break gap – multiple price rises look assured.

Luke Shaw
Just as Antonio Valencia looked to have the advantage, Shaw responded with a barnstorming display down the left. The assist for United’s penalty compounded an impressive display.
Again Pogba could be the influence here. Lining up on the left side of the double pivot, his ability to dominate possession could now see the power swing to the left side and promote Shaw as the choice full-back.

However, Valencia was just three behind Shaw in the Bonus Point System, despite his assist. We will continue to monitor but for now, Valencia remains our choice.

Paul Pogba
It was obvious that Pogba’s energy lifted United and brought the best out of those around him – it’s perhaps less obvious how the Frenchman will rate as a Fantasy asset.

He had more touches than any other player, he had more attempts on goal than any other United player but we need more time to see if that translates to returns to justify the 8.5 outlay.

In Decline

Wayne Rooney
Whilst Rooney chipped in with the assist for Ibrahimovic’s opener, when the Swede took the ball to stroke home United’s second, the skipper’s fate was sealed. The 2.5 price difference was tempting but Ibrahimovic has already made his mark, leaving Rooney playing second fiddle now and, most likely, throughout the season.

Notably, it’s also been Rooney, not the Swede who has been withdrawn in both league outings late on.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So after lot of deliberation I did Vardy >> Ibra. That after the brace last night.

Here's hoping Vardy strikes against Arsenal as a parting gift.

Great. Central to everything Southampton did/does. Only issue is I don't see either Long or Redmond as prolific scorers, so he won't get as many assists as he should given his creativity. I'd definitely keep for Watford if I had him.

Played well, close to a goal and assist. Thing to note is when Ausitn came on it was 3 up top and Tadic dropped a lot deeper for final 20/15mins.

Did Kane > Ibra last night. The fact that I'd already decided to wildcard after GW3 made it such an easy choice. Even if Kane gets a hat-trick this week, I'd still prefer to have Ibra next.

Not 100% convinced on Ibra for the long haul though. All it would take is a few premium mids like Payet, Sanchez or KDB to hit form at the same time as some alternative striker options and suddenly Zlatan's actual value becomes an issue again.

Shaw Valencia and Rooney (now Zlatan)
brace yourself, but even people who 'do the hard work' before the season had these players in at the start of the season.
Not rocket science to predict this could happen with United.

Generous. 90% of Man Utd fans don't know who Zlatan is - probably still think Cantona's leading the line.

I'm in the top 200k and I'm not a united fan. Besides Aguero could get a hat trick and the brace would be meaningless. Then Man City fans would be dominating lol

I think it's bordering on that already. Every single sign is pointing towards getting him.
I was holding out but penalties was the nail in Rooney's coffin. And I so wanted him to do well.

Fair points. To me, he scored a flukey goal, he drops to deep too often, he tries to overdo things and often makes the wrong decision. Hope I'm proved wrong going forward tho!!!

I must be the only one who thought the pen was soft in the extreme. Shaw was lightly touched and then clicked his feet together. Anyone who disagrees watch in slow mo.

This is as a Shaw owner as well

not sanchez unless he looks bright and plays completely differently. He seems worn out. Last year, after his injury people waited ages for him to get his form back but he was sluggish. Then when he got it back he was gold
