Stock Check – Gameweek 12 – Monday

An emphatic display by West Brom urges Fantasy managers re-assess the potential of a pair of their attacking assets while basking in the comfort of a belated clean sheet. Here’s the Stock Check following Gameweek 12’s concluding fixture…

Matt Phillips
Fantasy managers started the evening lamenting the absence of Nacer Chadli through injury but, on the evidence of recent performances, Phillip’s could well supersede him as the key target in the West Brom midfield.

His goal and assist returns this evening earned him back-to-back double figure returns and took him to two goals and four assists in his last seven Premier League starts.

Priced at 5.1 to Chadli’s 6.4, the former QPR winger looks to have the advantage as a fourth/fifth midfield option. Indeed, even when fit, Chadli’s starting role now looks to be a puzzle given West Brom’s current form.

Salomon Rondon
The Venezuelan has produced a string of impressive performances without returns as the Baggies’ lone striker but, tonight’s goal and assist brought his drought to an end.

Priced at 6.5, the Baggies frontman looks an option in this form, although on Chadli’s return, he will likely relinquish spot-kick duties which dents his appeal – along with the potential offered by Phillips.

Nonetheless, with Hull City, Watford and Swansea City in his next four Gameweeks, Rondon may tempt some short-term investors seeking a differential.

The West Brom Defence
With a combined ownership of 50%, many FPL managers benefited from a first Baggies clean sheet since Gameweek 3.

That’s a surprising statistic given the emphasis on defence by Tony Pulis. Sitting back and allowing Burnley to come onto them, tonight’s approach was typical of a West Brom side who prioritise defensive stability.

Gareth McAuley remains our weapon of choice – a menacing presence at set-pieces that warrants the extra outlay for the aforementioned fixtures. But Chris Brunt demands to be monitored and, once we can be sure of his prolonged starting role, he arguably presents even greater potential for attacking returns.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Need differential to make up points in ML. Only one team out of twelve ahead of me has Mane. Is Cout, Firm, Mane too much for the next 6? Already have Cout and Firm. I have 10.1 to spend. Who would you get?

Because he was scoring a lot of points prior to his injury. Pulis will be inclined to put him in if the current unit hits a road block.

Allen/Gundogan owners, just like Capoue owners before you, it's time to move on now, take your extra team value and a few points, Wilfried Zaha is your next target.

Four assists in four games but it's his goal threat which intrigues me. He seems to get in the best positions without end product but that could change with swa, SOT, hul in the next three, then moving on again.

What are peoples thoughts on doing:

    Lukaku & Allen ---> Hazard & Anichebe

Leaving me a front eight of:

    Coutinho Firmino Fletcher Sanchez Hazard
    Costa Anichebe Aguero

    And then next week doing:

    Vertonghen & Fletcher ---> Snodgrass & Nyom

    Cheers 🙂

You won't want Snodgrass on your bench. Unless you are gonna rotate with anichebe? But personally I hate that idea. I always play the strikers no matter what... I would want more evidence on anichebe first.

I don't know how prosperous 3-5-2 is but you have to get the best you can if you are going to. i would consider Chadli or snoddy...

In a bit of a mess. Prices likely not an issue for all parties involved until after Champions League on Wednesday. Down to these 5 options. Which one?

    Foster
    Alonso Holebas Stones
    Hazard Firmino Coutinho DeRoon
    Costa Aguero Lukaku

    (Grant, Allen Martina 4.0)
    1FT 0ITB

    A) Martina ➡ Nyom
    B) Stones Martina ➡ Brunt Pieters -4
    C) Aguero Martina Allen ➡ Kane Sigurdsson McAuley -8
    D) Aguero Stones Allen ➡ Kane Walcott McAuley -8
    E) Lukaku Stones Allen ➡ Kane Winks Pieters -8

Last min sanity check, want to do this tonight before price rise otherwise will screw my transfer plans in 1-2 weeks time on £...

Wally + Kaku our for Haz + Defoe for -4?

    Will give
    Haz Sanch Firm Cout Capoue
    Kun Austin Defoe

I know wait till European games are over etc. but will likely lose 0.3-0.5 if I do which I can't afford looking at future transfers.

Further, I think Zlatan is really hungry after not having played for like three weeks. Especially after his great perforamance against Swansea. I can actually see him score a couple here. What do you guys think?

Great points but will you want him next week at Everton or against Spurs the following week?

Since I already have Costa and don't want to get rid of him my alternatives are basically Kane, Aguero and Ibra

Kane has: Chelsea (A), Swansea (H) and Man U (A). I would say even worse than for Ibra

Aguero: Burnely (A), Chelsea (H) and Leicester (A). In my opinion pretty similiar to Ibra.

But from gameweek 16 the fixtures are looking great for Manu U, for a quite long period of time.

Would really like to have him this week, but probably best to wait until gw 16 with a few more weeks to assess the situation

You might of course be right. But in my opinon you need (to some extent) try to forecast the future rather than just base your decisions on history. Of course it gives you a good benchmark but it will never let you stand out from the crowd.

Okay? Don't really get what you are saying, as it was a pretty general question without any information about your transfer situation.

As I said, I would really like him for this week, but prefer to wait a until his fixtures turn. That means that I am trying to forecast the future that he will probably score against WH, but with two "tough" fixtures (at least Spurs), he won't be smashing in the goals. Also given his and United's flaky form, nothing is certain.

I like Ibra as an option, but would prefer Aguero for the next 3 as Burnley away and Leicester away are two pretty decent fixtures.

What I am saying is that in the case of success for him in the nearest future, a lot of people will transfer him in and you will not really be differentiated if you also wait until this point. On the other hand, I understand that it is riskier.

Aguero may very well outperform Zlatan, but he also should considering his price. For me transfering out Aguero > Zlatan also enables me to transfer Allen > Austin. So looking at the bigger picture I should rather compare the performance of Zlatan+Austin to Aguero+Allen. And in that case, I think the first two guys win.

Yeah, I guess you are just more inclined to the risk than I am or have less faith in Aguero 😉

it sounds like you also have to take a hit to get Zlatan in with both Allen and Austin being in the mix? Allen could still be a viable option if he gets back in his number 10 role against Burnley, so it also depends who you can play this week instead of Allen and what prices you bought them at.

Sorry for not describing my situation very well, but my main idea was to discuss Ibra in general. So I have 2 ft and the "ibra+austin plan" is to transfer in ibra+de roon this gw and austin next gw.

Regarding Allen, as you are saying his position is vital for his future value. Bojan's performance against watford will most likely give us a hint.

                  Exactly.

I also have great faith in Ibra, but my faith is more long term for the season. I think he will be getting goals.
I just made the mistake of holding him for too long while everybody else's mids were firing in goals and my rank plummeted.

That is why I am hesitant and I'm also not convinced that United's form has suddenly turned around. They should have closed that game against Arsenal much sooner and ended up with 1 point.

That being said, I think it has really done Ibra some good to get 2 goals to end his drought and get some much needed rest. And yes, I also think he is hungry to prove himself in the league, which he hasn't done so far. But with a changing starting XI, some unsure team performances and Zlatan still adjusting to the PL in general, I wouldn't want to get him in this early for Aguero. It may be ahead of the curve or prematurely.

                  Just to get it straight:
You are planning to sell Allen + Aguero this week to get in Ibra and de Roon? Who are you selling next week for Austin? Are you playing de Roon or is he your 5th mid?

Yes you are totally right. I have been following Zlatan for almost 15 years and what I base my decision upon is pure gut feeling that tells me this is the turning point. But as we already have been clearing out, it comes down to "risk aversion" in a sense.

So, my plan is to change Aguero, Allen and Grabban (third bench player) to Zlatan, De Roon and Austin. De Roon will probably be my first choice on the bench and I will be playing 4-4-2 this gameweek and change to 3-4-3 in the next one.

I can also choose to only transfer de roon > allen this gw and make the other two transfers next gw, but then my whole idea about Ibra performing well against whu goes away

I won't be doing it already, but I have starting decent 4th mid and 3rd forward. But you need the money to upgrade elsewhere as well.

So it is Ibra + Austin vs. Aguere + 4? No 4th defender or anyone who can get you points?

Haha I am so bad at explaining the situation in a proper way.
Case 1: not making the changes
Case 2: changing Aguero, Allen and Grabban to Zlatan, De Roon and Austin in a period of two gws.

In GW 13, both cases will result in the exact same lineup with Zlatan v.s. Aguero being the only difference (since De Roon and Allen will in each one of the cases be benched)

In GW 14, the difference will be Zlatan+Austin v.s. Aguero+Allen (with free transfers still available to make other changes)

                        Ah okay.

But as you are making 3 changes (with 2 free transfers?) you will have a -4 for gw 13.

So Zlatan would need to outscore Aguero by 4 in GW 13 OR Zlatan + Austin would need to outscore Aguero + Allen in gw 14.

If you think this will happen (and the FTs can't be used in another way to maximize points for your team further), I say DO IT 🙂

Trust you fellow Swede 😉 I have very mixed feeling about him as a Dane, as he single handedly crushed us in the European Cup qualifier last year... But I also think he is amazing and I am a United fan...

Haha 4-3 with three goals from Zlatan, never forget. But at least you have some future talents in Eriksen, Dolberg etc.

Since I already have 2 fts and will receive one more after next gamweek, I won't need to take a hit.

However, bed time for me. Thanks for you input and hopefully Zlatan will do well in the future.

There's been a lot of games where we expected Ibra to score big & it hasn't happened. I'd tend to wait a few games to assess. True he scored 2 against Swansea but that's not exactly a glowing endorsement for future hauls.

You are right and it might be naive to believe in Zlatan after his performance so far this season. I may also be a bit biased since I am a swede. However, I can feel his hunger, something I really can't with for example Aguero.

I am also completely biased as a united fan. Kept him until this week, where I wild carded and even gave him the armband against Stoke, Liverpool and Burnley...

I expect him to get goals long term. I even owned him up until this week where I wildcarded, so I am probably an eediot when it comes to Ibra 😉

I agree with you in waiting a couple of game weeks to see how him and United will do. Very flaky form. And think some of the other premium forwards like Aguero will outscore him over the next 3.

As an owner, I'm worried that Pep will see Gundogan as the more stable player and play him in CL and use Yaya more in the league.
