Stock Check – Gameweek 12 – Monday

An emphatic display by West Brom urges Fantasy managers re-assess the potential of a pair of their attacking assets while basking in the comfort of a belated clean sheet. Here’s the Stock Check following Gameweek 12’s concluding fixture…

Matt Phillips
Fantasy managers started the evening lamenting the absence of Nacer Chadli through injury but, on the evidence of recent performances, Phillip’s could well supersede him as the key target in the West Brom midfield.

His goal and assist returns this evening earned him back-to-back double figure returns and took him to two goals and four assists in his last seven Premier League starts.

Priced at 5.1 to Chadli’s 6.4, the former QPR winger looks to have the advantage as a fourth/fifth midfield option. Indeed, even when fit, Chadli’s starting role now looks to be a puzzle given West Brom’s current form.

Salomon Rondon
The Venezuelan has produced a string of impressive performances without returns as the Baggies’ lone striker but, tonight’s goal and assist brought his drought to an end.

Priced at 6.5, the Baggies frontman looks an option in this form, although on Chadli’s return, he will likely relinquish spot-kick duties which dents his appeal – along with the potential offered by Phillips.

Nonetheless, with Hull City, Watford and Swansea City in his next four Gameweeks, Rondon may tempt some short-term investors seeking a differential.

The West Brom Defence
With a combined ownership of 50%, many FPL managers benefited from a first Baggies clean sheet since Gameweek 3.

That’s a surprising statistic given the emphasis on defence by Tony Pulis. Sitting back and allowing Burnley to come onto them, tonight’s approach was typical of a West Brom side who prioritise defensive stability.

Gareth McAuley remains our weapon of choice – a menacing presence at set-pieces that warrants the extra outlay for the aforementioned fixtures. But Chris Brunt demands to be monitored and, once we can be sure of his prolonged starting role, he arguably presents even greater potential for attacking returns.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    A) Lukaku > Ibra, then Siggy in next week

    B) Shaqiri > Siggy this week, bring in Kane/Costa next week for a hit.

Only 1 team in the overall top 10 have Aguero. I'm starting to doubt

I dropped him from the captaincy just before the deadline for Costa and it saved my GW. I'll give him one more chance though. Cream rises to the top and all that

Overall top 10 at this point gives very little insight of what the top 10 will be at the end of the season...

Those are just the people who have used the most chips or gotten the luckiest. We're only a third of the way thru the season, we'll see who consistently stays near the top. I will be joining the gang of Aguero deserters next week though 😉

When Aguero starts clicking they won't be in the top 10 for long.

What do you guys think of Mané as a Captain pick??
He seems to be better at home...and makes a change from many ppl going with Firmino/Coutinho

Could see that being a great pick, most who place their captain in Pool will likely go Firmino.

I've got Mane and Firmino and am currently on Firmino as captain as he seems more likely to get bonus.

I also have both...just trying to be a bit different to most as I'm starting to lag behind where I would prefer to be.
Could easily backfire, that mf is a lottery.

Could really be a great different pick. But as you say that pool mf is a lottery, which is why I am hesitant about giving Coutinho the armband with Aguero/Sanchez as other options.

Mane is a great captaincy pick. People going Coutinho due to he has the highest ownership of the 3 main men.

Soo, 1st post, just register as a member 🙂

    Team:
    Heaton, Lloris
    Williams, Morgan, Holebas, Evans, Amat;
    Sanchez, Hazard, Firmino, Allen, de Roon;
    Aguero, Lukaku, Defoe

    2 ft, 0.9 itb.

    Was thinking;
Lukaku and Allen --> Couthino and Austin

To do this I nedd 0.1 :-/ So do I downgrade Lloris, Morgan or Williams?
Was thinking maybe Williams / Morgan --> Cedric.
Good plan? And sell Williams og Morgan?
    Thanks

Decent move. I prefer Defoe/Amichebe/Rondon to Austin -who I have. Might spare up some cash too.
      I would sell Morgan.

Hmm, interesting. Austin great fixtures, no?
I already have Defoe, and don´t really trust Anichebe.
I was leaning towards selling Williams, because of Morgan (MID) next week. Considered that?
        Thanks for your input 🙂

have 1 FT and 2.0m..thinking Lukaku out for Kane or Redmond out for Siggy, tempted to sell Aguero soon (potentially)

    .............Kosc - Clyne - Holebas
    Redmond - Hazard - Coutinho - Mane(c)
    .............Austin - Aguero - Lukaku

    Pickford; Evans, Amat, De Roon

For this week I would do Redmond -> Siggy and get in Kane next week.

I don't think Kane has that much of a bigger chance of scoring against Chelsea than Everton against Soton. But Siggy has a better chance home against CP than Redmond imo..

Or 2 goals and 1 assist last 433 minutes 😉

I would probably wait and see who plays during the CL tie. If Sterling doesn't, I would save the FT and do A) or to someone else another transfer next week.

Walcott has ha just 1 attempt in his last two games, def wouldn't be bringing him in right now (I appreciate he had harder games).

Remember sterling was brought off early last round of midweek games only not to play a single minute of the 'Borough game.
I think Kun/KDB are the only city players to own tbh.

Cedric is 5.4% on FPLstat, and has 0.10 progress on FIX, so I think he´ll be OK 🙂

Cedric is a great option at his price. Their fixtures are really good until GW 27 with only a few "tough" games. I just don't Everton def - especially with their upcoming fixtures.

I think a lot of people will be playing Heaton every week. I just got him in on a WC, but starting to regret the decision. As we say today against WBA, the defence is really terrible, so won't be expecting a lot of CSs and perhaps he can't keep up that ridiculous number of saves. But Alonso could definitely be worth it though.

Personally think the Heston ship has sailed, Burnley look a mess at times and Heatons heroics can't go on forever.

I definitely don't think he's worth the current premium over Pickford now he has been confirmed as #1... that's a lot of money that can be put elsewhere

Yeah I partially agree that it couldn't/can't go on with Heaton, although I wouldn't be comfortable only having Pickford with his fixtures - even if he has cemented his spot completely. A shame that Grant will probably lose his spot.

Yes, he is. Williams isn´t that bad though, but Evertons fixtures and his limited goal threat are putting me off.
My thoughs exactly about Heaton. He´s a good option, but some of his points have been kind of lucky, i guess. However, been solid at Turf Moore against good opposition.
Was considering Heaton / Robinson, but might go Heaton / Pickford

Yeah I would definitely go for Pickford it that 0.1 doesn't mess up anything important. At least I like having the option to rotate a bit - even though it hasn't been the smart thing to do so far.

Williams simply isn't worth his price imo compared to a lot of other options. A McAuley/Brunt would also be better imo and saving you some money, but I would definitely go with Cedric.

Thanks. Pickford might be the sensible option, giving me to playing GKs. The problem is that I most certaintly will choose the wrong one 😉

I have Evans for WBA defence. Fancy a double up?

Yeah I hear that argument a lot in terms of goal keepers, but I think statistically you will do better with options in the long run. People often bring up Valdes' performance against Arsenal and Heaton's against United, but I think those happen very rarely compared to having two well rotating keepers' CS against weaker sides.

I am probably the wrong person to ask about WBA defence. Just wildcarded this week and tripled up on them. Went well this week, but a risky tactic. With their upcoming fixtures, I don't think you find a lot of defenders with better value at that price. McAuley with goal threat or Nyom at only 4.3 could be valuable if he retains his spot. I think f you are considering doubling up, it is important that you can rotate them well with your remaining defence. Especially GWs 15, 17-19 and 21 until gw 27.

If they rotate well, I would rather have Brunt/McAuley + Cedric instead of Morgan/Williams.

Or maybe you can go can go Alonso + Nyom if you can afford it?

I totally agree on the rotating GKs. You rellay can´t ignore fixtures, even though harder opponents might bring in more save points.

Wow, tripple WBA, congratulations on that this week. Before last nights game I was really starting to think that their defence was kind of overrated, but great performance agains Burnley.

I think I will keep Evans for now, moving to another WBA is kind of sideways?
My defence is Morgan, Williams, Holebas, Evans, Amat. The plan is to bring in Cedric and Alonso for Morgan and Williams.

                      Kept Aguero on your WC?

Yeah I understand why people were/are losing faith in WBA defenders, but to be fair they had a pretty tough run of fixtures and were unlucky to concede a late goal a few times. With their upcoming fixtures I see them as good options if you can rotate them well during their tough games..

If you wan't to take a risk do Williams -> Nyom this game and Morgan -> Cedric next gameweek when Cedric fixtures turn ?Then you can do Evans -> Alonso in GW 15, when Alonso's fixtures turn good... Can you afford that?

Yeah I kept Aguero on WC, which I why I had to find some budget options in defence 😉 Wasn't a success this GW, but I am hoping he will punish sellers soon enough...

Anyone else take their first hit of the season this week?

I went lukaku, lallana, Chadli, leko -> anichebe, firmino, sigurdsson and Phillips for -12. Now have enough in the bank for deeney to Kane next week

    Fingers crossed!

Who are thinking is the best midfield option right now, given this:
    Hazard - Firmino - Lallana - Redmond - Allen

I'll need to drop either Lallana or Allen tomorrow, leaning towards Lallana cause his return is uncertain and I'll be ditching Liverpool mids by Christmas anyways. He's also about to drop. Allen could potentially be a season keeper (in at 4.9) since I prefer a 'good' first bench spot and he's a solid footballer.

I could get anyone up to Ozil (9.8), but it's generally believed he's not currently/going to be worth it.
Siggurdson the standout option? I'll have a bunch in the bank but that's not always bad.

    Cheers.

Fwiw I´m doing Allen --> Coutinho.
I agree that Allen might be a keeper if he is reinstalled in the #10 spot, but I really think that double liv mid is needed with this upcoming fixtures. Lallana -- > Coutinho maybe?

Could look at shifting one of your defenders. Smith -> McAuley, which could give you 0.1 to change Robinson -> Pickford if you ever feel like doing a luxury transfer? Naughty -> Nyom and then Smith to Cedric next week - unless you think Swansea will improve a lot with their upcoming fixtures, then you can do Lowton instead.

Not sure I would call it nailed on, as there still is a risk of Brunt moving down to LB.

But he has been doing pretty well even if it isn't his preferred position and can't really see Pulis benching him atm.

So if is a risk, but it would also allow you to get Cedric for Soton's very good upcoming fixtures all the way until GW 27 with only a few "tough" fixtures.

Problem for me is Snoddy plays for HUL....Just don't see where their goals or points come from. They've only scored 10 goals all season, whereas Chelsea are averaging 2.25 goals a game

      That's very sad 🙁

Perhaps their details are kept on their computer? The admin normally has to pass ownership over so FPL would need proof etc so it becomes an issue. If you don't need to change any settings during the season, it won't matter about the league code, renewing the league would be an issue if not set up now.

        absolutely...only 39 and 1 month from his 40th.

Not a problem with changing setting over the course of this season, but what about for next season? can we still renew or would we need to create new leagues?

Save then reassess with two frees. Long season.

Or you could do Pedro -> Siggy?

Maybe I would even consider putting Amat before Walker on the bench. If he plays 90, there is almost a better chance of Swansea CS than Spurs.

Either way wait until you see if Sterling plays during CL.

Season ticker is interesting when looking at medium term. Of the top 6 really only City down have any really nice runs.
It going to be impossible to cover them all. A base of players you won't change and leave 2-3 places flexible to cover fixtures might be the way to go but maybe that's always the way to play this game?

How good SOU fixtures are suprised me so it's Cedric over Evans coming in this week. Now that he is back he is nailed?

Cedric a better option than Evans not close for me. But, surely you have more pressing things to do?

This week Bellerin and Sanchez to Cedric and Walcott / Siggy
Next week Wilson and Coleman to Kane and Rose
What you think? Hits both weeks.

Can't comment on next week, obviously. This week I hate it. No reason to get rid of Alexis for a hit. I'd try to hold Bell and save if you have three others with decent fixtures to run out if not just get rid of him for free.

I see your point. I should have posted team. I have the 5 most expensive mids and 3 premium defenders leaving Wilson and Austin up front. Something has to give - I really want Kane and this seems the best way to get there.

Okay. Just do Bellerin -> Cedric this week and do the remaining 3 transfers next week?

If you are going to take the two hits either way, you might as well keep Sanchez for another gameweek and do -8 after?

Yeah losing Sanchez is trying to spread -4 and -4. I have thought about what you said but had a -8 this week and it hurt. Not really sure on Walcott either so your suggestion gives more time to mull over it. Thanks for taking time for detailed replies.

Have to keep an eye on 8 players for rises and falls too as only .2 spare with the Cedric option.

Wouldn't do Cedric -> Evans this week. Cedric has Everton and Evans has Hull (+ he had a few chances of attacking return tonight).

Save and do it next week?

Sorry I worded that badly I am losing Bellerin for Cedric or Evans. Yes I agree it needs to be Cedric.

    How am i looking?
    Heaton (Pickford)
    Alonso, Amat, Holebas (Walker, Kingsley)
    Walcott, (C)outinho, Hazard, Siggy, Marney
    Defoe, Costa, Aguero
    .4 ITB

Next weeks plan: Walker, Walcott > Cedric, Firmino
