Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Saturday

After Chelsea’s dramatic win at the Etihad, there are five 3pm kick-offs to keep us ticking over.

Harry Kane carries the armband hopes of many Fantasy Premier League managers for Gameweek 14 – the Spurs forward earned 32% of the Captain Poll votes against a Swansea outfit that have conceded at three times in four of their six matches under Bob Bradley.

Second only to Kane for transfers up front since last week’s deadline, Southampton’s Charlie Austin travels to a Palace defence that have been breached in all 13 Gameweeks so far.

Jermain Defoe also earned plenty of new owners ahead of Sunderland’s home encounter with Leicester. The top value forward in FPL, he faces a defence that have conceded 16 times on their travels – no side have shipped more.

All three forwards have the chance to stake a claim as our Sergio Aguero replacement, in light of the City striker’s dismissal earlier today.

Over in the midlands, West Brom’s Matt Phillips looks to continue the form that has racked up two goals and three assists in the last three Gameweeks as Watford roll up to the Hawthorns.

Back from a one-match ban, Stoke’s Joe Allen is only named amongst the subs against a Burnley side that have conceded at least three times in all but one of their away matches.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Aguero and Shaqiri to:

    1. Defoe and Hazard (1.5 mitb)
    2. Ibra and Eriksen (0.1 mitb)

    Got Kane, Austin, Sanchez, Sigurdsson, Lallana

    What a bloody beautiful game that was earlier. Maybe the two best managers in the game. Such contrasting styles. Both teams executed their game plans perfectly. On another day it would have been 3-3.
    For lovers of the tactical side of the game that is football at it's finest.
    Aguero, ridiculous brain snap. Pep will not be happy at all. It's already clear aguero is not the kind of player he wants up top. When he returns Jesus will be days away from debut...

      Pep over Poch for you? Conte deserves his place at the top. Seamless transition from a team in crisis against Arsenal to this machine. Pep rotates too much. Player confidence gets rotated with that too. He doesn't understand it enough in my view.

        Pep over poch for sure. Nobody thinks deeper about every minute detail than pep. He gets it, he's considered the fook out of it, and come to his own conclusions. Can't argue it doesn't work. They are right up in the mix for premier leage and ucl atm and have played some amazing football.
        For me he is a smidge behind conte and klopp this season so far but time will tell.

          I agree he thinks about the game way more than anyone else, but may be he is just overthinking it for this league. The chopping and changing of his defenders is ridiculous. It's the one thing that leads me to think he is slightly over-obsessed with his midfield theory and not focussing elsewhere. Remains to be seen, but while an unfortunate criticism, he has only managed in 1/2 team leagues.

            When done well you can have 20 important players instead of 11. See This is the impasse. Pep and his ilk believe in gaining advantages through tactical tweaking. Other like SAF or wenger rather having a system that lets their best 11 play to their best. No right or wrong just different.

            Yeah this is a much bigger test at city. Still they are two of the strongest leagues in the world and he had them playing the most mind blowing football the world has ever seen

    So, do we fancy Ibra at all now? I would like Costa but I strongly prefer players on penalties and Ibra look to be back in good form. Have Hazard as coverage.

    Just to confirm, Ibra isn't on the tightrope, right? Pretty sure I remember him serving that ban already.

    looks like a few big decisions are coming up for everybody...
    I currently have 0 FT and 2.4 ITB:

    Foster Grant
    Alonso Lovren Williams Holebas Amat
    Hazard Firmino Walcott Sigurdsson Fletcher
    Costa Kane Austin

    What to do? Do I just sit on my cash and wait? Or do I try to upgrade Walcott to Sanchez or do I try to get De Bruyne involved?

    (A) do noting and wait.
    (B) Siggy / Williams / Foster -> De Bruyne, Nyom, Pickford (-12)
    (C) Walcott -> De Bruyne (-4)
    (D) Walcott / Williams / Foster -> Sanchez / Nyom / Pickford (-12)

    I am leaning towards (B), because it covers all the top teams and I think Walcott is great value. However, it costs me 12 points and just getting De Bruyne for Wally in looks like an options as well (or even just wait?)

    Help would be much appreciated!
