Captains

Captain Poll – Gameweek 15

Following his sixth double-digit Fantasy Premier League points haul of the season, Alexis Sanchez (11.5) is surely likely to be among the frontrunners to top the Gameweek 15 Captain Poll.

Already more than 145,000 FPL managers have drafted him in following his stunning hat-trick against a hapless West Ham defence on Saturday evening.

But his next opponents Stoke City may not be so obliging when they visit the Emirates, having conceded just eight goals in their seven away games.

Gunners team-mate Mesut Ozil (9.6) offers a strong alternative for those unable to afford the Chilean.

The 9% owned German’s goal and assist against the Hammers produced his third double-digit FPL points return of the campaign.

Interest in Theo Walcott (8.0) is likely to be muted following a dip in form that has seen him muster a solitary shot on target over his last four league matches. The 16.7% owned England winger did, however, score with that one attempt, in Gameweek 13.

Chelsea’s dynamic duo of Diego Costa (10.7) and Eden Hazard (10.4) are odds on to be the other leading contenders at the summit.

The 46.8% owned Spanish striker is already FPL’s most popular player and attacking points look likely when West Brom visit, given he has delivered in all bar two of his 14 Gameweeks.

The 35.6% owned Hazard may not boast the same consistency as Costa but his explosive potential and strong home form is surely set to garner plenty of votes. Three of his four FPL double-digit hauls have arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho (6.6) may get another opportunity to impress in Gameweek 15, with Sergio Aguero starting a four-match ban for his horror tackle on Chelsea’s David Luiz on Saturday.

A trip to a Leicester City side that has conceded eight times in their last four league matches offers the Nigerian starlet the chance to become a regular in the Captain’s Poll until Aguero’s return for Gameweek 19.

Backers of the 3.4% owned striker will be optimistic after he delivered a 20 point FPL return over two matches when he last deputised for the Argentinian.

Kevin De Bruyne (10.8) is another Manchester City player with the pedigree to step up. The 10.4% owned Belgian also did well during Aguero’s previous three-match ban, scoring 27 points over Gameweeks 4 and 5.

Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Manchester United on Sunday looks tough to call and is likely to temper interest in their respective front men, Harry Kane (11.0) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.2).

Jose Mourinho’s troops have conceded just six goals and kept two clean sheets at Old Trafford, while Spurs are equally resilient on the road: they have also allowed just six goals and kept a pair of clean sheets on their travels.

A lacklustre attacking display against Bournemouth on Sunday is likely to curtail the popularity of Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino (8.8).

That was his third successive Gameweek blank, but with 14 goal attempts over the last four matches, Firmino may still be a shrewd captaincy pick against a West Ham outfit that has shipped 10 goals over their last three.

If he can recover from a knock sustained at the Vitality Stadium, Sadio Mane (9.3) may be the best option in Jurgen Klopp’s ranks. The Senegalese scored and assisted in Sunday’s defeat and has despatched a further five goals at Anfield.

Sunderland’s visit to Swansea offers a pair of strong differential contenders. For the home side, the 7.4% owned Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.4) has proved a consistent option, with at least a goal or assist in four of his last five matches.

Jermain Defoe (7.7) remains the visitors best armband option, scoring his eighth goal of the season at home to Leicester City on Saturday.

Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke (7.5) is another with form and the fixture to attract attention. He will be in search of his fifth goal in as many league outings this weekend and travels to a Hull City side that has conceded 12 goals at the KCOM Stadium. Five of the 7% owned Belgian’s seven goals have been scored in away matches.

Anyone done a -12 mini WC this week?

Are you writing off this week or happy your transfers will be worth it?

Why would we be writing this week off? Some really nice fixtures out there!

Owning Kane+Ibra isn't ideal but I expect most don't have that.

Think this will be a good week for a lot considering the fixtures. So a -12 can put a dent in your confidence.

Chelsea(Haz Costa Alonso, Other Chelsea Defs) - WBA(H)
      Arsenal(Sanch, Walcott, Kosc/Mustafi) - STK(H)
      Siggy/Fer(Sun-H)
      Austin (Mid H)

Among the highly owned players, West Brom(Chelsea away) and Spurs(Man Utd Away) have the toughest fixtures. Its easier for the rest of the lot.

Perhaps, but then you directly have Rondon vs Alonso, so someone will probably come up short. Not sure why it's worth a -4... Sure, Amat is unlikely to get a CS, but to just breakeven Alonso has to get a clean sheet.

    Sanchez Hazard Siggy Firmino Capoue
    Kane Costa Anichebe
Will make a Firmino to Eriksen OR Capoue to Can/Phillips fir gw16 looking at Firminos performance in gw15

Too early to draw conclusions on him IMO. Generally not a fan of 3-5-2s either, but will monitor again this weekend. He seems a bit of a 'second-fiddle' striker and at times in the last game played a bit like Arnautovic, quite wide and deep at times, yet he's obviously a striker.

The price tag is the key here.. I wanted Austin/Defoe or Iheanacho but couldn't afford them as I had to get Sanchez in
But Anichebe looks good after I checked his stats and goal threat
          And a switch between 343 and 342 with a good 5th mid
This allows 2 premium defenders as well Alonso and Walker

I cannot understand why anyone would want Sigurdsson at his price with games away to West Brom and Middlesbrough on the horizon. Swansea are in BIG trouble. Surely Can, Gundogan, Son or even Philips are better, cheaper options..?
I could be proved wrong, of course, but I just cannot see it for now. Bob Bradley seems clueless tactically to me - his teams look paper thin defensively and will concede shed loads of goals (there goes the 1 point clean sheet bonus for Swansea midfielders for a start) - is Sigurdsson good enough to single handedly save the Swans from relegation?
    Time will tell...

who cares if he saves them from relegation, long as he's involved in the majority of goals they score he's a great option.

Bringing him in for them 2 home games against West Ham and Palace is a good shout, I'll accept that Christina. In my opinion, it's 3 weeks too early to have him now at that price.
Personally, I'm going for Son with home fixtures against chronic travel sick Hull and Burnley saving 0.2 whilst doing so.

Boro sit tight at the back against stronger teams. Surely they won't park the bus against Swansea at home which gives Gylfi a good chance of producing something.

West Brom haven't really kept the clean sheets we were expecting them to. So there's a good chance Siggy does well there too.

    5. pompeyfan
      • 14 Years
      7 years, 4 months ago

it doesn't matter if they lose all their remaining games. Siggy is still quite likely to deliver a good number of points by being involved in a large proportion of their goals.

Btw - who buys a midfielder for the 1 cleansheet point?!

I understand your point of view.

Siggy is a proven points scorer. I'm not thrilled to have Amat in my team, but I am absolutely fine with Siggy playing in games which are winnable for Swansea, as he will have a really high chance of being involved in anything they do.

For that awkward 7.2 price point I don't see much value beyond him. I like Lallana and Antonio as well, but they need to come back from injury and to form respectively before I'll consider. Can is an option but I'm looking at bringing Origi in already.

      Great post though!

Trying to go into the Christmas schedule with no duds who may not start.

    Foster // Grant
    Alonso // Cedric // Valencia // Brunt // Holebas
    Hazard // Sanchez // Alli // Can // Phillips
    Kane // Costa // Austin

Planning to rotate Can, Phillips and possibly Austin depending on fixtures but i reckon I'm in with a fair chance of putting 11 out every week. What do you think? 🙂

    Thoughts on this for -12?

    Vertonghen > Alonso
    Arnautovic > Can
    Walcott > Sanchez
    Aguero > Costa

I'd have all the big hitters (except Siggy) and would be really happy with my team. Also sick of waiting and seeing the players I want continuously score points.

Too many people look at hits as only relative to the next week rather than ongoing. Vert offers little attacking threat whereas Alonso is quite the opposite

Don't have the money unless I downgrade Arnautovic - so then it becomes a -4.

Then Vert has good fixtures, but could also be suspended, while Alonso gets double figures vs WBA. On top of any other worries I may have or transfers to make.

He's one of those midfielders who you'll keep for a few weeks and then ship. The same as Lallana, Gundogan, Allen etc. The bottom two for -4 is an absolute no brainer though. Do that!

I think we need to discuss rotation more in detail. First we have 3 GWs in a week between GW15-17.

Which teams and players do you think will suffer from rotation?

And which teams and players will be immune to rotation?

we have this every season and every season fpl managers worry far more about it than prem managers. Man City will be the only big team to rotate imo. Spurs may rotate full backs

The popular players in FPL who have a chance of being rotated imo are:

Austin, Cedric, Walcott, Pedro, Spurs full backs maybe and the whole City squad.

Rotation will be a problem for:

Manchester City: Everywhere, especially in midfield. Nacho is their only striker now, but Pep can chance formation in order to rest him.

Tottenham: Full-backs. At least Walker should be rotated as they have done before. Rose could be ok if Davies stays unfit. I can also see at least one of the wingers getting a rest, more likely Son than Eriksen. Sissoko and Lamela (if fit) as cover.

Southampton: Austin and Long/Rodriguez. Maybe the full-backs too.

      Arsenal: Wally/Ox/Giroud/Ramsey rotation.

I can see rotation being leas of a problem for:

Chelsea: Nailed first-team. Maybe Pedro/Willian. No fatigue in the squad. And no cover in the wing back positions.

Liverpool: No fatigue and Klopp hasn't rotated this season. With Couts out Firmino and Mané should start all games. No decent back up for the back 4 as well.

Sunderland: No squad depth means Defoe will continue to play. They need him badly.

Swansea: You never know with Bradley but Siggy will be immune.

United: I think Mou is a coach who doesn't rotate much at all. Of cours there will be some rotation but the core will stay the same.

Excessive. Firmino to Can is such a downwards move, so the real question you're asking is...

For -8 points, and a big downgrade on Firmino vs West Ham, should I sell Redmond vs. MID, for Sanchez vs. STO...

    GW 15-17 rotation risks

Building on the super team discussion thread, we really need to also keep in mind the fact that we have 3 games within 7 days for the next three GWs – I think the super team template might need to be tweaked in the short-term given this scenario.

In my opinion, the below would be key risks for rotation:
    - Sanchez: Definitely the time period when the dreaded Wenger ‘Christmas rest’ remarks might come true
    - Austin: With Long fit again, I don’t think they expect Austin to play 90 minutes in all 3 matches
    - KDB/Sterling: I think we’ll see Gundo + Nolito + Sane taking a bit of the load here

Am I missing some obvious candidates out here?

Hazard, Costa, Liv mid, Siggy and Kane should all be above the rotation risk I my opinion, but there might be a curveball around here somewhere

TL;DR: The super-team template needs to be corrected for potential rotation risks, especially with Arsenal and Man City players

    Thoughts would be welcome! 🙂

All very strong points! I've gone for Haz, Firmino, Siggy and Kane for those reasons - trying to manufacture a way to get Costa in but idk at the moment.

I might add Walker to that list as a really highly owned FPL player - I'm fairly sure a lot on here have him - who is likely to be rotated at least once over Xmas, given Trippier is there. I think Trip will play this week in the UCL, but I think there will be one or two more where he will come in to give KW a break 'til Jan.

Not any others widely owned enough I don't think, the wing back positions there always seem under real threat!

The only other one highly owned is Walcott, who is also def susceptible to rotation imo!

            I agree!

You know, I think this is around the time of the year we start seeing Walcott wane again.

I think his run is done, and Ramsey/Giroud back in the team definitely makes him the first at-risk rotation

    Haz Firmino Walcott Sterling Clayton
    Costa Kane Austin

    A) Walcott Sterling > Sanchez + 5.1
    B) Sterling Firmino > Sanchez + 5.9 (Can maybe? Too late for Phillips i guess..)
