Captain Sensible – Gameweek 23

We brace ourselves for a busy next few days, as the first of two rounds of fixtures within a week gets underway this evening.

As usual, we roll out our pre-Gameweek members article, assessing the main Captain Poll contenders and taking a look at the Opta numbers and Rate My Team rankings before suggesting a differential or two to help with your armband dilemma.

The Captain Poll

It’s a case of déjà vu when it comes to our latest Captain Poll as Alexis Sanchez once again leads the way ahead of Arsenal’s home clash with Watford.

Over 47% are backing the Chilean to get amongst the points against a defence with a single clean sheet in 12 Gameweeks. A late penalty against Burnley last time out means he’s scored or assisted in all but one of the last ten Gameweeks.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is rated as the best of the rest with 21% of the votes cast.

Set to host a Hull defence that’s conceded more goals on the road (26) than any other side, the United striker has been almost as consistent as Sanchez, proving points in nine of his last 11 league outings.

Harry Kane has persuade 10% of voters as Spurs make their way to struggling Sunderland.

Having recovered from an ankle injury in time for Tuesday’s clash, Kane has racked up six goals and two assists in his last five fixtures and faces a Black Cats backline that’s conceded at least twice in each of their previous five.

With the three big-hitters proving so popular, there is a number of differential options on offer.

Dele Alli earns just 4% votes, yet has eight goals in six to his name ahead of that trip to Wearside. Team-mate Christian Eriksen, meanwhile, has six double-digit hauls in the last ten Gameweeks.

Over at the Emirates, Olivier Giroud has netted in four of the last five Gameweeks yet, like Eriksen, has been picked by just 1%.

Sergio Aguero collects a mere 2% of the votes for City’s trip to West Ham, with concerns still surrounding the knock that saw him miss the weekend FA Cup win at Palace.

Everton’s trip to Stoke has convinced just 1% to look at Romelu Lukaku. The big Belgian rolls up to the bet365 having netted in three of the last five Gameweeks.

Diego Costa’s popularity (1%) is surprisingly low for Chelsea’s trip to Liverpool, given that he’s scored or assisted in 16 of 20 league appearances. All three of his 10+ points returns have arrived on the road.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    About the FPL tweet:

In fairness its probably easier to google 'Fantasy football" and end up here reading pages and pages of advice. Its the age we live in, information on everything is available. Its what you do with that info makes the difference.

How often do you read every twitter post of someone you follow? People need to stop worrying about casuals and focus on their own game

I follow FPL and hundreds of other pages on Twitter.
I wouldn't have noticed it anyway.

I doubt people are hanging on everything that is being said on the FPL account. If they are- they are far from casuals.

With only 4 transfers from now until GW28 I could get to:

      Randolph
      Baines - Holgate - Brunt
      Phillips - Sigurdsson - Carroll - (Eriksen)
      Lukaku - Rondon - (Ibra)

      Grant - Jones - Luiz - Sanchez

I am liking it personally. Then would look at transferring Rondon and Brunt our when their fixtures turn bad. Leave Holgate and Carroll as my bench fodder.

If I was FPL I would definitely do this - imagine the advertising revenue they would get on a site like this with thousands of users.

And if FFS said "we're not for sale" I'd replicate the site and kill it off anyway.

Hopefully no-one at FPL thinks like I do though 🙁

        defender dilemma:
        Brunt, Alonso, Friend*, Amat*, Ake*

i don't want to get rid of friend because, presuming he recovers next GW, he at least gets on the pitch.

ake - is he ever going to get minutes? or should i just cut my losses?

amat is going down in value, and doesn't start, but if that changes he would be good to have around for the blanks

        so ultimately it's:
        a) ake > baines/coleman
        b) amat > baines/coleman
        c) friend > baines/coleman
        d) AOA this week and save FT (would mean fielding de roon and hoping kane, lallana and alli all play)

currently leaning on b) amat > coleman. nets me 0.1m also.

        I have a front 3 of Giroud - Ibra - Aguero
I'm thinking of doing Aguero to Kane, what shall I do???

A - Stick with Aguero or
        B - Swop to Kane

        Thanks

If you are chasing points then stick with Aguero as a differential. Otherwise move to Kane. Base your move on your competition.

Given United gets another blank in 28 (very likey), it surely will make a lot sense to ship Ibra? Thats a lot of cash on the benck for gw 26 and 28. His high ownership will surely make him drop a few 0. as well. What do you think? Something like Ibra -> Carrol, Rondon, Llorente for gw 26 (Have Lukaku)?

GW27 v leaky BOU (h) is the issue I think

Yes, I know. Hopefully you can make up his potential score in that fixture by having more players in 26 and 28 🙂

Maybe - I'd be more worried of what I end up with for GW29. For example 3 x WBA not good for 29 and 30. But who knows...

Good point! Likewise with Everton assets in 30 and 31. Might as well just calm down and be satisfied with 8-9 players in gw28
