Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 26 – The Strong

With the picture for Gameweek 28 having taken shape over the weekend and the Fixture Ticker updated accordingly, we’re ready to unveil those teams who benefit from some promising schedules over the next four-to-six Gameweeks.

Hull City and Swansea City appear well placed to profit, while Burnley’s 1-0 defeat to Lincoln City in the FA Cup has propelled Liverpool players onto the radar, with the Reds now guaranteed to host the Clarets in Gameweek 28.

Hull City

(BUR, lei, SWA, eve, WHM, MID)
Four home matches in the next six, in a run that avoids all of the current top six, means that there is a lot to like about Hull’s upcoming schedule.

In terms of the attacking prospects, the Leicester City and West Ham United clashes stand out, given that they rank second and third for goals conceded over the last four Gameweeks, with nine and eight respectively.

The Burnley, Swansea City and Middlesbrough match-ups also appear favourable, though, considering the Clarets poor away record, and the fact that ‘Boro and Swansea have conceded 11 and eight big chances respectively over their last four encounters.

No obvious target in Marco Silva’s attacking ranks has emerged as yet, but Oumar Niasse and Lazar Markovic are certainly the ones to watch.

At the other end of the pitch, our targets are a little more concrete.

On paper, the Leicester, ‘Boro and Burnley encounters appear the most likely to yield defensive returns, with those three teams having managed zero, two and four goals respectively over their last four Gameweeks.

The Swansea and West Ham match-ups are also reasonable ties, though, leaving only the Everton clash in Gameweek 29 as the single fixture which casts doubts over potential defensive returns.

Given his price tag of just 4.1 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Eldin Jakupovic remains an obvious option, although the goal threat of Harry Maguire and the forward runs and supply from Andrew Robertson makes them intriguing picks.

Swansea City

(che, BUR, hul, bou, MID, TOT)

While their next six fixtures are bookended by tough encounters against Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, the four matches in between appear very favourable for the Welsh side.

From a defensive perspective, the home clashes against Burnley and ‘Boro are strong, given that they’ve mustered just five and eight goals respectively away from home this season.

The trips to Hull and Bournemouth are also far from daunting, so Swansea defenders, and, in particular, Alfie Mawson, who has netted three times in his last six matches, appear worthy of consideration during this part of the season as we bid to navigate the blanks.

From an attacking perspective, the outlook is very similar.

Goals will be expected against Burnley with Sean Dyche’s side managing just one clean sheet in their 11 away matches. Meanwhile, no team has conceded more times than Bournemouth (12) over the last four Gameweeks.

If the Swans can maintain their recent upturn in form, the fixtures against Hull and ‘Boro also offer promise, so it’s difficult not to regard Gylfi Sigurdsson as an almost vital Fantasy asset over the next month or so.

The midfielder has registered three goals and a trio of assists over the last six Gameweeks and, combined with Fernando Llorente’s three consecutive blanks, it’s the Icelander who remains the key target in Paul Clement’s squad.

Liverpool

(lei, ARS, BUR, mci, EVE, BOU)

Jurgen Klopp’s men are another team that face four home fixtures in their next six, crucially playing in Gameweek 28, while the schedule remains very strong from Gameweek 31 onwards.

Looking at the attacking prospects, Liverpool appear to have three hugely enticing match-ups, with Bournemouth and Leicester currently two of the weakest defences in the Premier League, while Burnley’s away struggles make Gameweek 28 a tantalising encounter.

The other three fixtures on the current slate are trickier given the quality of the opposition, although, as their 2-0 win over Spurs in Gameweek 25 demonstrated, Klopp’s side can thrive against the stronger sides.

Burnley’s surprise FA Cup exit has really swung the balance towards Liverpool attackers in particular, with Sadio Mane already drafted in by over 188,000 FPL bosses, while Roberto Firmino could also re-emerge as a strong midfield option.

Given Burnley’s tally of a meagre five goals on their travels, those who currently own a Liverpool defender will be happy to hold for the time being.

Monday’s trip to the King Power Stadium is also very favourable given that the Foxes haven’t scored in their last six, while the Bournemouth fixture could also offer defensive returns.

But with the other three matches (ARS, mci, EVE) providing far sterner tests, it’s debatable whether Reds defence merits investment at this point.

Nathaniel Clyne is the leading contender for our five-man backlines, with Simon Mignolet a cheaper option in goal.

Also Consider

West Ham United
The Hammers are another team to benefit from having a match in Gameweek 28, one of four favourable fixtures in their next six (wat, CHE, bou, LEI, hul, ars).

Slaven Bilic’s men look capable of scoring goals against four sides who sit in the bottom half of the table, so Michail Antonio, Robert Snodgrass, Manuel Lanzini and Andy Carroll, providing he shakes off a nagging groin problem, could all provide solid value over this spell.

That’s compounded by the fact that the Hammers also face Swansea and Sunderland in Gameweeks 32 and 33.

Investment could also be warranted at the back, with Winston Reid’s goal threat from set-pieces, allied to the reasonable possibility of defensive returns in six of the next eight, edging the centre-back onto our radar.

Burnley
As already touched upon, the fact that the Clarets now play in Gameweek 28 means that their players hold slightly more appeal, despite playing four of the next six away from Turf Moor.

Tom Heaton’s 19.1% ownership in FPL will more than likely now be happy to hold, with clashes at Hull, Swansea, Sunderland, and at home to Stoke City, all fairly reasonable.

Interest in Burnley attackers may be harder to justify, though, given that the cheaper options available at Hull, Swansea and West Ham appear more likely to produce over the coming weeks.

But Robbie Brady did serve notice of his potential with a stunning free-kick against Chelsea and looks worth monitoring, while Ashley Barnes has shown improved form and consistent starts as a 4.5 option up front. Indeed, no forward has fired more attempts on goal over the last four Gameweeks than the cut-price frontman.

Watford
Although the Hornets suffer a blank in Gameweek 28, the fact that they face four of the next five (WHM, SOT, cpl, SUN, WBA) at home has attracted our attention.

For those seeking differentials in attack, both Troy Deeney and M’Baye Niang look intriguing options, with Walter Mazzarri’s men facing defences that should offer up opportunities for attacking points.

While the blank is likely to limit any investment at the back, those who still have Jose Holebas in their 15-man squads could get some value from the left-sided defender during the coming weeks.

Holebas has already amassed two goals and four assists this season, offering a decent attacking threat, while Watford may even promise one or two shut-outs over what is a crucial period of their campaign.

Everton
The Toffees’ short-term prospects remain bright, with three very strong home fixtures (SUN, WBA, HUL) in four.

Those that have jumped on Seamus Coleman, Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku should continue to be rewarded, then, with the Belgian expected to overcome a minor calf injury to line up against the Black Cats on Saturday.

Back-to-back away matches against Liverpool and Manchester United in early April provide a downside, though, so we perhaps need to have a plan to ditch one of our Everton assets come Gameweek 30.

Further favourable match-ups at home to Leicester and Burnley do follow in Gameweeks 32 and 33, however.

Of the 4 main Hull strikers they have:
        Niasse - Available
        Mbokani - Illness (probably available)
        Diomande - Available
        Hernandez - Back in GW28

I'm not sure Niasse will play in GW28, so don't think he is worth the risk.

I agree, but Hernandez is due back for GW28, I don't think Niasse is worth the risk if he isn't going to play in 28. I only want him for 3 weeks.

We don't know yet, as there hasn't been a situation where all three (Mbokani/Hernandez) have been fit. That said, Niasse certainly fits the best in Silva's counter attacking style.

    Hi fellas,

Need some help/advice from those of you sightly more intelligent than myself, I've had down arrows for the last four weeks.

    Jak - Foster

    Nyom - Baines - Cahill - Ward - Jones

    Siggy - Phillips - Stanislas - Carroll - Sanchez

    Lukaku - Kane - Ibra

Feel like I need to upgrade my midfield, but obviously be considerate to various GW blanks etc.

Why take a hit for Pieters to Mawson, far from guranteed to pay off. Similarly even with Holgate to Mawson. Not worth it in my mind for one week, unless you will then play him going forwards as well. Also in A if you were to get Mawson you should take the hit in 27, his fixture is better.

A is better though, Holgate won't play and I can see Brunt outscoring your bench and then he plays in 28 as well. Don't take hits so freely though.

it's the shift in formation rather than Rose himself that has affected them, Poch obviously thinks Davies/Vertonghen aren't up to the wingback role unfortunately

Not really Vertonghen was out injured the last 4-5 gws. He knows 3 man defense won't work when their options in that spot are so limited.

        2. Grand Thibauto
          • 9 Years

They are getting hurt because of their defense as a whole. The lack of Vertonghen is showing. He is not an FPL player but if you follow Spurs close enough, you would realize what a crucial player he is to them. He will be back next gw might help Spurs get back to the 3 man defense. Not owning Kane-Alli could be scary. Especially Alli if they play 3421/343

Worth a -4 to do Fletcher OUT for Eriksen?

        Reasoning:
o Other ML rivals have 2-3 Spurs. I only have Alli, whom is covered by who I am trying to reel in short term and also long term, whereas Eriksen is a differential.
o I currently have 9 GW28 players, so I'd go down to 8 - planning to hold in 27, so I'll still have 2FTs to get 10 at least (can get 11 with a hit) in 28.
o Eriksen has three home games and a blank in the next 4; must be in line to produce the goods. Fletcher a solid 2 pointer, and I have Brunt/Rondon to cover the attacking points for WBA

I'm slowly convincing myself to do it, I think it's a good short term option based on ML, and surely having 10 (or 11 if I take a hit) 28 players attainable is still ahead of the game, right?

I've got Mane + Siggy already in - did those two in for KdB and Sanchez with my FT this week!

Big worry is that ML rivals all have 3 Spurs (Walker, Alli, Kane) so I think I need to contest that. It's just whether it's worth a -4! Gives me a front 8 of:

            Alli Siggy Mane Antonio *Eriksen*
            Kaku Rondon (Ibra)

Don't see the point of buying a player at this stage that blanks in gw28, especially one from spurs regardless of fixtures. They're just not firing since went to four at the back and Rose now not back for another few weeks, so doesn't look like they'll go back to other formation where Alli & Eriksen flourished any time soon.

            • 10 Years

Thanks Sess, you're probably right! I'm just a bit worried by being pummeled by the 3 spurs really. Especially as the next 3 games for them are all home, which is where I think Spurs tend to do better.

Plus I figure I'm ahead of the game a bit by having 9 GW28s as it stands.

Will think about it til Friday - no rises/falls on the horizon for anyone! - but I do feel worried about that game and having a player everyone else has in it, plus 2 others who are big differentials on me.

I could also afford Amat out for Bavies. But never for a -4!

-4 to swap a playing player for a player you won't captain is a no for me. Eriksen not that explosive and not been doing that much, Fulham excluded. Kane could smash you all on his own anyway. Also presumably soaks up your Sanchez money and surely everyone will want him back soon

Another thing that worries me is that they lost 1-0 to Gent, which means they'll have to push the 2nd leg as much as possible to make sure (if) they go through, which leads to them being a little more tired vs Stoke.
I don't think their 0-3 win at Fulham gave them the confidence they need

no Everton attack on my team. To field 11 this GW , -4,bring in an
A- Everton Mid Barkley / Lookman in for Stanislas

          B- Maguire in for Amat?

will bring in Everton for GW 28 and skip/bench their fixture against Spurs in 27, regardless

In which order would you place the Liverpool mids, regarding how many points you expect them to get from gw26 till the end of the season?

          I feel Mane>Coutinho>Firmino>Lallana>Wijnaldum

            Last 4 matches
            Coutinho - 8
            Firmino - 24

On current form, I would rate firmino above coutinho

Best move? (If Siggy is a must).

          A. Sanchez > Manè
          B. Sanchez > Firmino

          A) means I can only do Alli > Siggy next GW.
          B) means I can afford Capoue > Siggy next GW.

Go Mane! I feel he's back in form and confident.
I did Sanchez->Mane a few days ago, I was reluctant but I really wanted Mane, so I couldn't see any other LIV mid beyond him.
Not getting the player you really want won't feel good.
Next week Alli has Everton, a good defence. Right after it, he blanks.
Since Rose will be still missing, Tottenham are still not performing up to their best.

Alli plays Everton next week not an easy fixture and the week after Alli blanks, so if you really want to bring in Mane i don't see it as a problem to do Sanchez to Mane this week and next week Alli to Siggy.

Nailed, by perhaps my definition, means there's negligible chance the player won't be in the starting eleven... Hull have two capable CBs in Dawson and Davies who are both injured and Ranocchia who has a decent reputation but didn't look great on his debut... sure on current form he may not be dropped but when Hull start conceding again he could easily drop out... I'm not even arguing he's likely to drop out just there's a non-negligible chance 🙂

He's in great form and by right, he should keep his place. Having said that, both Ranochia and Davies are bigger names and I'm a little worried he will be jettisoned from the team when Davies returns from injury.

I'd say Mane could be worth 4 points over Pieters this GW, plus gives you an extra player in GW28, so it's more like a 2pt hit that a 4 pt hit. Now is the best time to take a hit IMO, less risk when the replacement plays more games than the player you sell.

B, since you get 2 good starters for GW26 and GW28, whilst losing Amat who doesn't play at all now. A is also good, but I'd prefer to have more diversity with Pool and Everton than triple up on Everton (although I do have Baines, Coleman and Kaku myself). I feel over reliant on Everton.

Of the bigger hits, F looks the best bet. Now is a better time to take hits than most. Can you do the same transfers but change Benteke to Carroll?

Would have to get Firmino instead of Mane...

Losing Carroll over Benteke also means 1 less starter in 28.

                Thoughts?

I'd be tempted by E/F. Think you need Mane and Lukaku over the next few

I'm really curious which face Leicester will show tonight..
If they don't suffer a heavy defeat it will be really weird.

          Sevilla-Leicester, what's the score?

          I expect a 3-0

I've got a feeling they'll turn up and get a result. 1-1 maybe

I think we will be up for the game for a change. But Sevilla are an underrated side, one of the best in Europe right now. I'd be happy if we can score and keep the deficit down to 2 or less to bring it back to the KP. Anything better than 3-1 will do for me.

They are great going forward though, could easily be a rout. They should leave space in behind though, we have the pace to exploit it, providing we manage to string more than 3 passes together.

Can get this GW28 team with 1 more transfer:
          Jak
          Brunt Baines FM Naughton
          Mane(c) Siggy Phillips
          Lukaku Barnes
          (Mannone, Alonso, Hazard, Eriksen, Ibra)

Is it worth transferring another GW28 player in to get 11 or better of saving a transfer to make getting Sanchez back easier in GW29?

Save the transfer, 10 players without a hit is going to be way above average.

For gw 26 - 28 which combination would you rather have (playing both each week, and playing Jakupovic)

          A) Coleman & Maguire/Robertson
          B) Funes Mori & Brunt

          Thanks for any input.

B, more diversity. Not sure I'd like double Hull defence; one Everton, one WBA and one Hull seems a decent spread given the fixtures. All 4 players there have a decent attacking threat.
