Captains

Captain Poll – Gameweek 27

Wednesday night’s 5-1 rout of Huddersfield Town booked Manchester City’s place in the FA Cup quarter-finals and created this season’s first double Gameweek.

With a trip to Sunderland and home tie against Stoke City falling in Gameweek 27, Pep Guardiola’s troops will inevitably dominate our transfer activity and latest Captain Poll.

Sergio Aguero (12.7) will surely be the favourite for the summit after a brace against The Terriers brought his tally to four over the last two matches.

With no competition from the injured Gabriel Jesus and high praise from his manager after last night’s display, our rotation fears surrounding the marksman have been somewhat dampened. Aguero has gained more than 39,000 new owners in just the last 24 hours, with an overnight price rise seemingly inevitable.

Aguero’s captaincy credentials are boosted further by the fragility of the Stoke and Sunderland defences.

No side has conceded more shots in the box than the Black Cats over the last four matches and only Swansea City have been breached more often at home.

After shipping four away to Spurs, the Potters’ visit to the Etihad looks another mouth-watering prospect for City’s attack.

Indeed, the Gameweek 27 profit could be spread far and wide, ensuring that Aguero has rivals for the armband within the City ranks.

Raheem Sterling (7.8) and Leroy Sane (7.5), who have been Guardiola’s preferred wing partnership over the last four league matches, both present strong CV’s for the captaincy role.

Sterling may only boast a single double-digit haul over his last 20 outings, but the wide man has been a beacon of consistency, with attacking returns in eight of the last ten Gameweeks.

Sane is also a man in form, having notched a goal and two assists in his last four league outings and claiming the opener in Wednesday’s win.
So far, 10,000+ FPL managers have drafted in Sane in the last 24 hours, with over 30,000 falling for Sterling’s charms.

As the designated penalty taker for City, Yaya Toure (7.3) has also been added to the poll as an option; a mere 1.1% of FPL managers currently own the Ivorian.

Toure was rested for last night’s encounter and it remains to be seen if Guardiola considers him for the back-to-back Gameweek 27 fixtures. The midfielder’s absence would, presumably, bolster Aguero’s appeal as he assumes duties from the spot.

We perhaps shouldn’t ignore Stoke City as a factor in the Gameweek 27 picture. A home tie with Middlesbrough should attract some attention for their assets, while Mark Hughes will feel that his side can trouble an erratic City defence that again conceded in Wednesday’s tie.

Stoke’s immediate opponents Middlesbrough have lost three of their last four away league fixtures, which makes Potters midfielders Joe Allen (5.1) and 0.9% owned Marko Arnautovic (7.1) intriguing differential options for the armband.

No Stoke player has had more shots on target than Arnautovic over their last four league encounters, while Allen’s six goals make him their top scorer this term.

Peter Crouch (4.9) and Saido Berahino (6.0) are other Potters options, but their prospects are hindered by the possibility that they will likely be vying for just one striker position.

We have also included a series of options for consideration among players with just a single match in Gameweek 27.

Certainly, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) will be the big hope for those refusing to invest in Aguero and his City team-mates.

Ibrahimovic has delivered at least a goal or an assist in eight of his last ten Gameweeks and takes on a Bournemouth side at Old Trafford that has conceded 17 goals over their last six outings, more than any other side.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini (6.7) is another striker in form.

He has fired five goals in three matches since joining the St Mary’s ranks from Napoli in January. A visit to Watford offers the Italian a platform to maintain such form: the Hornets have kept just a single clean sheet in their last six league Gameweeks.

Swansea City’s protagonist Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.6) is also included, with opponents Burnley continuing to toil on the road ahead of their visit to the Liberty Stadium. Sigurdsson’s assist against Chelsea last weekend means he has delivered attacking returns in six of his seven starts under head coach Paul Clement.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll on Friday when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Alli or Mane out for Sterling!?

Would be thinking Mane - problem is, he has a 28 and I've only got 8 players with it atm as I removed Rondon (YAY) for Kun. So I might have to go without any Spurs cover and take out Alli - right?

    Thanks!

I've played him since GW20, idiot. I'll be ditching after 28 and he'll score against Everton and Arsenal.
For me it was Kun + Sterling in for either Stan + Costa or Alli + Rondon.

I'm doing the exact Alli and Rondon move you detailed I think! Not too happy to lose Alli but I do want Eriksen long term, so I can get him in 29 and bank 0.3 from Alli

Just did Alli to Sterling & switching back for GW 29.

Mane has been monstrous at home & plays 28

Yeah I think you're right, plus it gives me a nice differential as I'm sure Spurs players are either being retained or sold for a City player, not for Mane. OK, beginning to think I keep him now

Yeah, think I should really, I'll have Sterling, Pieters and Kun (TC) in the mix then - got to think Raheem will outscore Dele 2 games v 1....?

Still pondering Sane too, but Raheem just feels so much more secure at the price.

Ouch. I have a similar question as I'm looking at Sterling in for Alli! Not decided yet, but I think that's an acceptable move for the DGW even if I'm not ecstatic about doing it at face value.

Would then take a four point hit to get 8 playing for GW 28. If Philips is fit.

Either Aguero will work out this week and those who don't have him miss out, but if Aguero blanks in 1 or both games, advantage is to non owners big time

We still will have our TC for Sanchez 🙂

I would be bringing Siggy in for Sterling/Sane for GW 28 anyway, but means i won't have to waste a 4 point hit if i get him this week.

        Siggy 1 game + 4 points
        Sane 2 games

      I'm pondering Sane v Sterling

It's just the Pep presser I think that could bring bad news. That's the risk you take if you're making transfers early. I'll probably do it tonight to try to catch 0.1 profit on them ahead of next week, though, I'm sure there are no problems, and Kun subbed normally vs Huddersfield

A good way would be taking the mean of the rank of DGW players' 2 fixtures.
And to halve their final rank since they have 2 fixtures.

Not ideal but can't be helped now, probably take a hit for Sterling to Mane/Siggy/Firminho next week, you could take a -8 and do Crouch to Carroll as well (if he plays this weekend).

    I need some advice:

    Heaton Grant
    Alonso Baines Brunt Evans Amat
    Mane Eriksen Sigurdsson Phillips DeRoon
    Ibra Kaku Defoe

*(Currently 8 players for gameweek 28, including Phillips and excl. Amat)
    *(only Grant for dgw 27)

    What should I do:

    A) Defoe, Eriksen-> Aguero, King (-4)
    9 players for 28
    2 dgw players for 27
Use the next week's transfer to bring a 10th player for 28

    B) Defoe, Mane-> Augero, Sane (-4)
    7 players for 28
    3 dgw players for 27
then probably do Eriksen->Liv mid for 28, which will give me 8 players for 28

    C) Kaku, Eriksen-> Aguero, Sterling (-4)
    7 players for 28
    3 dgw for 27
then do Aguero->Kaku for 28, so 8 players for 28

    D) Other option

    Thanks!!!

    Heaton, Pickford
    Coleman, Alonso, Brunt, Holebas, Amat
    Mane, Eriksen, Alli, Phillips, TCarroll
    Zlatan, Lukaku, Defoe
    2.3 ITB

    What’s best:
    A. Defoe, Alli, Alonso > Kun, Sterling, Robertson (-8)
    B. Defoe, Alli, Alonso > Kun, Siggy, Robertson (-8)
    C. Alli, Eriksen > Sterling & Siggy (-4)
    D. Alli, > Sterling (no hit)

Would this be enough for GW28?

    Jaku,
    Baines, Brunt
    Sigurdsson, Mane, Coutinho
    Lukaku

Or do I save Lukaku > Aguero this week doing Kane or Costa to Aguero instead, enabling me to get 8 for GW28.

I figured Lukaku v Spurs plus a likely extra Carroll to in 28 outscores Ibra v BOU

He looked a bit tired and United yet to convince at home for me yet

So many people taking hits to get in Aguero and/or Sterling/Sane in, but then further hits to get rid in the next GW.
Are the risks or point costs really worth it?

I'm considering Kane -> Aguero, but its not as clear cut as I would like it to be.

I'd rather try and fail than not have the opportunity of getting some high scoring weeks.

Have Ibra, Lukaku and Kane up front.
Seems a waste to ship Lukaku and get him back in Gw28.
Kane is out for GW28 as well as Ibra - but Ibra possibly has the better fixture

I took a -4 to get kun and sterling in, even thinking of another two transfers to get sane and crouch in. I think the risk is worth it. Lets say i make those other transfers for -12. If all the players score good points you could easily hit well over 100 points in total, -12 from that still leaves you with a score that will be well above average for the game week.

Help with defence (choose 3/4) and Crouch/Grosicki dilemma -
    Foster/Heaton
    Baines/Brunt/DLuiz/Britos/Maguire
    Mane/Sane/Sterling/Cout/Gros
    Lukaku(c)/Kun/Crouch
    Thanks!

Pedro has Stoke A and Crystal H seems better than Eriksen' Saints H and Burnely A

    Mane - Siggy - T.Caroll - Sterling
    Kane

    A. Costa - Lukaku - Snody ==> Aguero - Llorente - Sane for -8
    Or
    B. Costa ==> Aguero with FT

Already have Aguero and Sterling for this week and are at -4. Is it crazy to drop Lukaku for Crouch and then upgrade De Roon to Sane? Then next week id have to do another -12 but can field 10 players, if Phillips is fit.

Over the next 2 GWs Lukaku just has to play to outscore Crouch with a hit. If you're not captaining Sane I'm not confident he'll claw back 2 hits.

This is what im thinking. Crouch will probably score 4 points if im lucky and break me even. Then i'll be transferring lukaku back in next week. But theres that side of me that really wants to risk it at the same time.
