Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Liverpool vs Burnley

The shortened Gameweek 28 comes to a conclusion this afternoon when Liverpool entertain Burnley at Anfield.

With Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho both among the top 10 players transferred in this week, many Fantasy managers will be hoping the Liverpool midfield duo can wreak havoc against a Burnley side that has managed just one clean sheet on their travels this season.

Mane has produced five double-figure hauls at Anfield, helping explain why over 8% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bosses have handed the Senegal international the captain’s armband.

Coutinho, meanwhile, found the back of the net in the 3-1 defeat to Leicester City in Gameweek 26, and slowly looks to be returning to his best form.

Roberto Firmino was also brought in by over 103,000 FPL managers, but the Brazilian has been ruled out due to a knock, with Divock Origi taking his place in the starting XI.

The Reds will have to get past Tom Heaton though, who returns for Burnley after missing the 3-2 defeat to Swansea City due to illness, providing a boost for his 19% ownership in FPL.

Liverpool did, of course, lose 2-0 to the Clarets in the reverse fixture in Gameweek 2, and will be hoping to improve on their dismal record against teams from the bottom half, having lost to Swansea City, Hull City and Leicester over the last six Gameweeks.

    Gw30

Aguero and Sterling --> Costa and Hazard?

City have arsenal away and Chelsea palace at home.

Potential GW30 team and leading into the DGW assuming Kane is injured and out and price rises dont beat me.

    Pickford (Valdes)
    Alonso, Coleman, Walker/Rose (Amat, Evans)
    Hazard, Sterling, Sanchez,Son (King)
    Lukaku, Carroll, Gabbiadini

    Harry Kane injury update

As most punters will be aware, Harry Kane suffered what appears to be a significant ankle injury in Tottenham’s FA. Cup tie against Millwall.

The perpetrating incident occurred early on as Kane raced on to a through ball from Kieran Trippier to hook a shot towards the Millwall goal, subsequently planting his right foot down just as the Millwall defender comes sliding in, wedging Kane’s foot and ankle under his hip and leg forcing the sub-talar joint of Kane’s ankle into extreme inversion. Indeed, at one point, the ankle joint was strained to almost 90 degrees, putting the ligaments of the ankle, particularly the calcaneo-fibular, under sustained pressure and stress:

    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/596015/Tottenham-Harry-Kane-injured-video-Millwall-FA-Cup-quarter-final-leg-twist-bbc

The fact that the injury is to the same ligament that side-lined the Tottenham forward at the beginning of the season only compounds the situation further. There are, however, positives to the unfolding drama. The Spur’s physio, post assessment, allowed Kane to walk from the goal to the dug-out fully weight-bearing and Kane did not appear to be in a great deal of pain, nor did he appear to be overly anxious. Factors which may suggest that the injury is not as serious as the horrific pictures portray. Over the next few days Kane will undergo X-rays and scans to consider the extent of the damage.

Taking the positive circumstances into consideration, popular quotes of 8 weeks rehabilitation may be a little wide of the mark, but the ligaments were certainly over-stretched and even with mild damage to the actual fibres through micro-tearing (i.e. a grade 1 injury) allied to the previous injury we could still see Kane conceivably miss 3-4 weeks at a conservative estimate. Obviously, news filtering through by the end of the week will be more pertinent, but at this stage, for me in FPL terms he is a definite sell.

because we are able to view the ankle sub-talar joint being forced into an extreme range by an external leverage allied to an external varus force (the defenders body weight) whilst in this physiologically overstretched range of movement at the sub-talar and it would be highly unusual if ligamentous creep did not occur under these conditions

No need to wildcard. Get Firm/Cout & Phillips out and the likes of Son, Pedro & Walcott (if you can't afford Sanchez) in.
Baines to Walker the following week.

    Mane, Siggy, King, Firmino* Markovic*
    Costa, Lukaku, Defoe

Looking at: Firm & Mark --> Sanchez* & Son*

    Who would you bench?
    No AOA sadly.

Good and you have 12 potential DGW players- similar to my plan other than I have Sterling and Eriksen not Sane and Son and have Walker, Cedric, Mawson in defence

Not a fan of Stirling but can afford Eriksen if i sell Coleman for Fernandez. I would sell him before dgws anyway.

Thoughts on a FT Coutinho to Pedro, would leave me with this:
        Jaku/Randolph
        Baines/Coleman/Brunt/Mawson/Chambers
        Eriksen/Mane/Pedro/Siggy/King
        Lukaku/Carroll/Crouch

I had 11 players for this gw even with 2 hits when the most players had 6-8 players.I should had play it safe and captained Lukaku.61 points quite good for this gw.My mistake.
