Dugout Discussion – Tuesday

Gameweek 31 is upon us and underway courtesy of a quartet of Tuesday night matches under lights.

In Fantasy terms, the focus will be on Old Trafford where Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to the equation and Manchester United’s starting line-up against Everton.

Having once been owned by over 2.4 million FPL managers, he’s now part of just over half that number and, intriguingly, goes head-to-head with the new top owned asset in Everton’s Romelu Lukaku tonight.

The Toffees frontman will be under renewed pressure to deliver following his tepid display in Saturday’s Merseyside derby. With Ibrahimovic now returned ahead of United’s two double Gameweeks, Lukaku needs to show willing and perhaps produce points to stave off increasing sales.

Elsewhere, Leicester City’s renaissance receives its latest test with basement dwellers Sunderland at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes have won four successive Premier Leauge matches and, while Jermain Defoe is fit to start for the visitors, Jamie Vardy and company will be backed for another win and further returns.

Meanwhile, Burnley host Stoke City at Turf Moor with Tom Heaton the key asset on show, while West Brom make the trip to Vicarage Road with Gareth McAuley the big draw – he boasts six goals from corner kicks, with the Hornets conceding ten from set-plays, only Bournemouth have conceded more.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Could go either way in my 'glamour' FFS Cup head-to-head with a top-10 HOFfer....reckon he's favourite on paper though :

    A Davies Origi +3
    B Valdes Yoshida Coutinho

Pretty close to impossible Man U get to Champs league via the PL. They are in Europa already. The only safe bet IMO is Ibra. I think it is time for City attacking assets even with a rotation fear.
With Arsenal wanting at least 5th spot, Spurs needing good results, they must be the other go to teams for FPL.

I honestly think both Palace and Boro are better bets for the doubles. I don't think I'll even get Zlatan.

Zlatan will play every game. It's what Mourinho does - grind his players into the ground until they hate him (Madrid)/ break down (Chelsea) and move on.

What have been your problem positions this season?

For me it's strikers. Only once (in week 2!) - have all three of my strikers scored in a game week. And I haven't even had two score since week 18. This has had a knock on effect to poor captain choices which has cost me all season.

For next week I have Defoe, a 7.7m striker, as my third sub. Which just sums it up. If it wasn't for my midfield I doubt I would even be in the top million, can't put a foot wrong in there by comparison.

I'm getting Benteke for the double, so I urge you all to avoid, for your sake.

Defenders for me... Hardly getting any clean sheets 😳

Went with only 1 striker for few weeks due to the reason you have said.

I've just had all the strikers at the wrong time. The only ones who've delivered have been Lukaku in bursts and Kane, who was superb for me.

Pretty much every other major striker in game I've owned and they must have scored about four goals for me in total. My "third striker" spot hasn't scored at all since I had Gray.

        After his hat trick...

I struggled with defence first ten but since then had Alonso and Brunt throughout and been fine coupled with Heaton.

Oh definitely, especially the 3rd striker. Wilson, Origi who I owned etc and then there wasnl Rondon and Benteke for others.

Its so bad I managed to fly up the rankings on 352 and when I did need to rely on Barnes he got sent off. Did score in two games time though.

But yeah forwards have been far more tricky to get right.

My qualm is on the cheapies, let's not even go into the headache of the premium striker merry go round.

My ignorance. Didn't get Lukaku and Costa for a long time. After getting Costa, he has been consistently getting 1/2 points. I think catching the bus late has been my biggest problem.

With my midfield, King, Allen, Siggy, Coutinho - I seem to have managed to get players just before they've hit a run. Even Sanchez and Hazard I've managed to hit every big score they've got.

But up front the complete opposite. Entering my team is an absolute death toll for a striker.

I mean look at Costa against Palace. He knew he was in my team. He knew.

Third striker after Austin got injured. I persisted with 3-4-3, and courted Nacho and Rondon for the next 8 weeks instead of going 3-5-2 which has cost me dearly in the OR.

My third striker (Gray/Negredo/Rashford/Austin/Iheanacho/Origi) scored 60 points in GWs 1-22 with just three goals and two assists before I finally gave up and switched to 3-5-2. I could have afforded Defoe a couple of times and didn't go for him so perhaps it was my own poor choices.

I've mentioned this a couple of times lately but think it's being skimmed over currently - Aren't most going to end up with Ibra for GW34 as he appears to be the best captain option? It would be brave to go for a single game player over a potential double one in my opinion.

It is a tough call, he is in form but away matches start now plus the CL match coming up. I checked back (and with a different manager now, not sure how relevant it is) but it didn't look like he was rested that much before previous PL matches. I might just keep and roll a FT.

What do we make of these reports on Kane? Is a case of Lamela and Rose all over again? If he is fit, how likely is he to start against Bournemouth, they've won 2 games without him and should beat Swansea and Watford comfortably. Will there be a need to start Kane and risk him before the FA Cup match with Chelsea?

That's alot of points for losing two players Who could on their day gain as many points or more than Coutinho and Sané.

nah. who gets the points between Cout / Firm and Sterl / Sane is a lottery. Have a little patience. King -> Zaha may be good though, considering the doubles.

Good morning everyone. Assuming Llorente is OK for the weekend would you save a FT with this lot?

    Foster
    Yoshida, Alonso, Brunt
    Sigurdsson, Sanchez, Hazard, Alli
    Lukaku, Aguero, Llorente

subs: Heaton --- Holgate, Robertson, Clayton --- 1 FT, 0.2 ITB

Cheers. There will be few tempting transfers like Brunt -> B.Davies or Llorente to Origi. But with DGW's approaching saving could be the best option.

    Would you wildcard this team?

No- Just sell McAuley or Brunt and maybe Costa (though he does have a juicy fixture).
I've decided that Siggy Llorente double up is too much myself...may regret that, but I did Origi in for Llorente. reckon Siggy > Sané this week is a valid option too. I plan to keep Siggy, but bring in Aguero as city cover see below

For gw32 I'd rather have Aguero and Sané than Costa and Coutinho.

Cant you just downgrade Brunt to a starting def with an ok fixture and upgrade Costa to Aguero? You already have 1.5 itb and that would only mean one hit
