Fantasy Eliteserien – Gameweek 3 Preview

After a five month long winter break the new season of Norwegian’s top flight football kicked off with a bang with two Gameweeks within a few days.

With Gameweek 3 starting on Saturday there is little respite for the clubs, and more importantly, us Fantasy managers. Gameweek 2 saw a lot of frustration as key assets were either benched or taken off early with the tight schedule in mind.

FFScout League Standings

The FFS community has shown an overwhelming interest for this fringe league, with 476 already having entered the FFScout main league (3769-1041).

On top with 135 points we find Norwegian Red (Oieiao) – perhaps fittingly – an Englishman.

In the FFScout  H2H league 16 managers have won both their matchups, with Ned Ryerson and Riski Virksomhet being joint top thanks to their superior points tally. Ned Ryerson features again on top of Phil Dagger’s Last Man Standing.

Stock Check

Ahead of looking at the risers and fallers from the two Gameweeks so far it is worth checking out Goktugerce‘s excellent statistical review of the first two Gameweeks, looking at team statistics, average positions and expected goals & assists. Meanwhile, Niemi took an in depth look at the good and bad players so far in every position.

Rising

Vegar Hedenstad (6.5) – Two clean sheets and an assist. On some set pieces.

Mike Jensen (10.5) – Two assists. Easy on the eye, which means he will be a favourite of ‘the man in the stand’. Already has 4 bonus points.

Milan Jevtovic (7.6) – A goal and an assist. A possible injury to Elbasan Rashani means Jevtovic could be nailed on going forward.

Nicklas Bendtner (12.5) – Two goals. The Dane is yet to find the groove but nonetheless has managed to find the back of the net in both games. Will score a lot of goals purely because of the sheer amount of chances Rosenborg create every game.

Sigurd Rosted (5.6) – Two goals. Not only is he a massive threat from set pieces, Sarpsborg play 4 out of their next 6 fixtures at home. Last season they kept an impressive 9 clean sheets in 15 games at home.

Patrick Mortensen (6.6) – Two goals and an assist. Sarpsborg have scored the joint most goals so far and the fixtures are favourable.

Gilbert Koomson (7.5) – Dubbed ’Siggy of Eliteserien’ by some of the FFS posters, Koomson showed some of his potential by scoring a penalty in GW2. The top assister from last season is yet to assist this campaign but that looks like a matter of time.

Bendik Bye (5.5) – Two goals and an assist. After a potential season ending injury for strike parter Ole Sveen, Bye should have done enough to nail down a permanent starting place.

Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) – A goal and an assist. 4 bonus points already, including full points in a game his team lost.

Ibrahim Shuaibu (5.0) – Two goals and two assists. Incredible form and value.

Frederik Gytkjær (7.5) – Three goals. Mistaken for his brother who was the league’s top scorer last season, a lot of casuals have enjoyed the early investment of the younger Gytkjær.

Ohi Omoijuanfo (7.0) – Hat-trick in the first home game. 3 of the next 4 fixtures are at home.

Marco Tagbajumi (7.6) – Two goals. Going somewhat under the radar compared to his expensive strike partner Marcus Pedersen. Favourable fixtures.

Jylian Ryerson (4.5) – One goal. Listed as a cheap defender, Ryerson has played both games in an advanced midfield position. Will probably drop a bit deeper once Adegbenro is back. Ryerson is a jack of all trades and due to Viking’s extremely thin squad we could hope to see him OOP for longer parts of the season.

Falling

Ghayas Zahid (10.5) – Tipped by many to be in contention for player of the year, Zahid has nothing to show for so far. Consistent returns are vital for players with a premium price tag. Does however face the bottom team at home in GW3 so those patient enough to keep could finally be rewarded.

Mohammed Abdellaoue (9.4) – An impressive pre season was followed by an anonymous opening GW before being ruled out for GW2 with an injury. Is very injury prone.

Lars Vilsvik (6.0) – Viewed as a full back with big attacking threat, the only thing Vilsvik has produced so far is an own goal. The fixtures are however still good.

Rafik Zekhnini (8.5) & Fredrik Nordkvelle (9.0) – Although the former registered an assist after coming on as a sub, he was benched due poor work ethic in the previous match. The latter is yet to return attacking points.

Samuel Adegbenro (7.5) – After missing the first game through illness, Adegbenro returned to training ahead of GW2. But he missed the second game as well, and now await four of the toughest games Viking will play all season.

Gameweek 3 Picks

Scoring the winner in his debut game, Bård Finne (9.1) will look to continue his good home form when Vålerenga welcome the bottom team Sandefjord. With Abdellaoue being a doubt for Sunday, Finne might benefit from a central striker role.

When it comes to attempts, midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) is second only to Bendik Bye with 4 shots per game. The Nigerian will certainly fancy his chances at home against what currently is the joint worst defence in the league.

Marco Tagbajuni (7.6) is on top for average xG (expected goals) per shot. Although a small sample size, this suggests he has so far been on the right place at the right time. Up against a shambolic Aalesund defence, the rather budget friendly striker could potentially even be trusted with the armband.

Oh wow I just realised, Wormgoor isn't in the game? I'm afraid I am getting Koomson off the bench after all!

Is the Worm injured or something?

9 blanks so far, except for Reginiussen and Meling. Sold Koomson (18+bonus), Dyngeland (10+bonus) and Svendsen (5 points so far). Benched Seck (15 points + bonus) and Moe (5 points). This game...

Reginiussen, Meling and Midtsjø against Tromsø at home.
Leciejewski, Rolantsson and Haugen against Sandefjord at home.
      Adegbenro against Aalesund at home.
      Zahid against Kristiansund at home.
      Sigurdarson against Sogndal at home.
      Lindberg against Lillestrøm away
      Omoijuanfo against Strømsgodset away.

9/11 with very good home fixtures. The other 2 with decent away games. Should be a good gameweek, but will probably end up with 25-30 points.

Expect the unexpected in this league.
All away teams are going to win. Sognal will demolish molde 4-0 and Rosenberg will concede a goal.
        Hoping I'm wrong! Lol

Right, feel like sharing some translation here. Rosenborg coach predicting a completely different game midweek than todays, saying this about the pitch (free translation): "At home we don't let the cows graze on the pitch so it should be a much better game"
Just says it all about Stabæks pitch don't it 😀

Holy flipping cow. 80 points and a gameweek rank of 17. Thank you Niemi for suggesting as an Utvik replacement Seck, a 4.2 defender for Sandefjord whose last three gameweek scores are 10, 12 and 18. Plus Koomson's hattie and goalkeeper Dyngeland got a clean sheet and an assist! Just one of those weeks - a few weeks ago I got a gameweek rank of 64,280.

So, are anyone even considering Lie (aalesund)? Was quite shocked to see him at the top of the GK standings. Having Leciewskij hasn't been rewarding rewarding so far. A great goalie, but haven't gotten many returns

Yes, he just finally got his "normal" payoff and then some. Although I get why you ask, he did almost seem to have a CAM role at times there.

True, more observation is waranted, but Koomson was a hot-ticket player pre-season so we have kinof waited for his break. Remains to be seen if this was it though.

Incidently, if Wæhler had been added to the game in time I'm pretty sure he'd have the 2BP payout behind Koomson

Before making any moves, think what a dead team would do.
Don't expect more than 2-3 of your players to get returns in a gameweek.
                Your captain will blank.

If there was enough interest for fantasy games in other leagues then they'd get the same treatment I'm sure.

Nothing wrong with the Norwegian fantasy league getting coverage - it's just another fantasy football game like FPL, Sky, PlayOn, FanDuel, etc. which all get articles and comments. Not sure why you think it should be exclusively the Premier League that gets attention.

Well there used to be articles on IPL fantasy (cricket tournament). Even cricket world cup got coverage via articles. I really liked that and I missed the IPL fantasy article this year.

Thought this was supposed to be an FPL website.

I don't know FanDuel and the other games you mention because Indont live in the U.K.

And yeah, my bad but I couldn't care less about the Norwegian League - it's even worse than the Belgian one.

Nope - FPL tends to dominate proceedings but it doesn't have a monopoly on the site. And sure, you're not interested in the Norwegian fantasy league but plenty of others are so easiest to just ignore it I'd say 🙂

And I expect people couldn't care less about what you care about?

The Norweigan League game emerged because of context - there is no football this summer, and this game will give people something to discuss/play.

There are articles about UCL football and games too - this is not just a Premier League site. And there are discussions about various leagues on here.

I welcome more articles about different leagues - I expect that the majority of us are football fans, not just Premier League fans.

Well, for a start, this is closer to the original FPL game than the current FPL game is with its newfangled chips and bonus system...this is one for the purists. As you'll see in this article it was developed by the same people that run FPL. If you aren't interested in the Norwegian league then fair enough, maybe this isn't for you. But this game certainly deserves its place here.

                    True. My bad.

Not quite 'new' (second FPL season coming regularly on this website) and remotely aware of other fantasy games being covered here but if I'm not wrong FanDuel, SkySports games are also about the PL.

Lars Arne Nilsen (Brann's manager) said that there will probably be some changes for the midweek game as they have a game next weekend as well. I have a feeling Rolantsson might be one of those who get rotated (due to decent alternatives as well). The line ups will be out before deadline for most matches (6 out of 8 matches will be played 1 hour after deadline). Watch out for the lineups and be vary of the rotation! Not sure if I will captain Rolantsson unless I know he'll start.

I guess we don't get Rosenborg before deadline then - can't find any injury update on Helland, and with all these good fixtures, maybe best to sell ?

The article is about the club doctor saying he's fit enough to play and it's up to the manager if he wants to use him. Hansen was also fit enough to play, but the manager didn't want to use him as he wasn't 100% last GW. The same could be said about Helland. I think he'll start though.

He only had a 1-match Yellow Card ban, he is ready for the midweek game.

                  2 Quick questions.

                  1. Which Brann defender to get for Vilsvik to double up with Leciejewski long-term? Rolantsson or Kristiansen?

                  2. I need to get Utvik out and Seck looks the go-to option. But will he burn me too much with his attacking threat from my bench? I'll only use him as fodder most of the time. Can you suggest any other cheap defender that's suitable for that fodder role?

                    1. Rolantsson by far, he plays Out of Posision at left wing. (Watch out for possible rotation for the midweek game though)

                    2. Seck is the hot item just now, but steady numbers show Stabæk's Moe is the go-to cheap defender (although people gripe every week about the amount of points he provides to benches all over the place)

                      1. Rolantsson

                      2. Moe best for long term IMO with Seck a close second. Seck is dangerous going forward, but don't expect attacking returns every week.

And by the way it's better benching Seck's 18 points like I did this GW than having a non-playing defender? At least you know you have someone who could get you returns when he's needed.

Thanks. Is he definitely nailed on long-term? Should I get Kristiansen instead if it turns out we know Rolantsson misses midweek? And I already have Moe. Any other decent cheap defenders you'd recommend?

Nailed on for now, but not as nailed on as Kristiansen and the center backs. Kristiansen doesn't offer much going forward though (scored his first goal in 5 years I think).

He's a winger in a 4-3-3. Too good potential to ignore, just get him and play him until he's being rotated regulary. Wait until lineups before deadline tomorrow though. If he doesn't start it's not worth bringing him in this GW.

Thanks. Is it not risky the way he gets subbed off often? And I already have Moe

He's got 2 clean sheets the other Brann defenders didn't get this way, so could work both ways I guess. Brann rarely does substitutes before 60 minutes.
