DraftKings – Champions League – Free $3 Entry

The first legs of the Champions League quarter-finals take place this week, providing another opportunity to get involved in DraftKings’ European contests.

With that in mind, we take a look at the big prize pots on offer and analyse some of the key picks for your eight-man rosters.

It’s easy to register a new account at DraftKings and you’ll receive a free entry into a $3 contest if you sign up and deposit $5 or more.

This week, for a $3 buy-in there’s a $1,000 “Set Piece” game, with $100 going to first-place and 79 of the 392 potential entries winning prizes.

The “Sweeper” contest has the biggest pot for this slate – a $4 fee gives you a chance to win a share of a $12,000 prize-fund, with $1,250 going to the top spot.

TUESDAY PLAYER PICKS

Juventus v Barcelona
Dortmund v Monaco

Gianluigi Buffon – Juventus – $4,900 – G
Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri is likely to put emphasis on a clean sheet, with the away goal rule making progression a much more difficult proposition if Barcelona were to score. Promisingly, the Italian side’s veteran stopper has been in resilient form since the 1-0 victory over Porto in the round of 16 in which he picked up 14 points.

In the three league outings since, he has conceded only a single goal and made 11 saves to accrue 13.3 Fantasy Points Per Game (FPPG). That form, alongside a moderate price-tag and a reasonable chance of Juve picking up a win,  makes him a sound value pick despite the opposition.

DK1

Benjamin Mendy – Monaco – $5,200 – D
On a slate in which clean sheets appear doubtful, we’ve focused our attention on seeking a defender that has convincing attacking numbers. Monaco’s left-back certainly fits the bill, having already returned a trio of assists in four Champions League starts this term.

In his last six appearances across all competitions, the Frenchman has registered 43 crosses – an important metric in DraftKings with +0.5 points on offer even if the cross fails to reach the target. Those have helped provide a 12.5 FPPG over that run ahead of an encounter with a side defeated 4-1 by Bayern Munich at the weekend.

Paulo Dybala – Juventus – $8,400 – M/F
The Argentine has excelled at home of late, recording five goals and a pair of assists in his last five home starts. The forward was heavily involved in the 2-0 victory over Chievo Verona last time out in the league, with six shots, an assist and nine crosses contributing to a DraftKings score of 22 points.

Alternatively, Gonazalo Higuain is available for less funds and has notched back-to-back braces, though five blanks in six prior to those two hauls hints that Dybala is the more consistent option for the home clash with Barcelona.

Luiz Suarez – Barcelona – $8,900 – F
The Uruguayan requires significantly less outlay than Neymar ($10,700) and Messi ($10,500) in what is set to be a tough match-up, so he’s our preferred forward from Luis Enrique’s front three.

Barcelona were surprisingly dispatched 2-0 at the weekend by Malaga. However, Suarez delivered a goal and assist combination in each of his previous three La Liga run-outs as well as the 6-1 victory in the second leg over Paris St Germain. That reliability, both as a goal threat and a creator, when allied to his kinder price-tag makes him an intriguing prospect against Juve.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Dortmund – $9,200 – F
Although the Gabonese front-man failed to score at Bayern Munich, he found the net in six straight Bundesliga matches prior to that defeat. A hat-trick in the second leg against Benfica sent the German side through to this stage and demonstrated his ability to bring in massive scores (he scored 40 points).

An 11-goal tally from his last eight matches further illustrates why he’s a worthwhile investment and the stand-out pick from the Dortmund attack – particularly considering that Monaco conceded four times to both Manchester City and Bayer Leverkusen in their last two Champions League away ties.

WEDNESDAY PLAYER PICKS

Atletico Madrid v Leicester City
Bayern Munich v Real Madrid

Jan Oblak – Atletico – $6,000 – G
The Spanish outfit appear to have the most favourable fixture of the slate considering their visitors’ underwhelming European record on the road – Leicester City have scored a single goal over their last three away outings.

The Slovenian made six saves in the goalless draw with Bayer Leverkusen to score 17 points last time out in the Champions League. The five points rewarded to goalkeepers on winning sides is another reason to risk the outlay on Atletico’s stopper, with Diego Simeone’s side likely to emerge with a victory at the Vicente Calderon.

DK1

Rafinha – Bayern Munich – $4,700 – D
The full-back has been rotated with Phillip Lahm this campaign, and after sitting out the match with Dortmund at the weekend, Rafinha looks set to start at right-back against Real Madrid. We’re hoping for points at both ends of the pitch from the Brazilian, with some attacking forays and a battle with Cristiano Ronaldo ($10,200) set to produce a respectable score.

Rafinha recorded 16 points at The Emirates in Bayern’s previous European outing, registering an assist and three crosses while also showing off his defensive attributes with four interceptions and three tackles won.

Gareth Bale – Real Madrid – $8,100 – M/F
Visiting a Bayern Munich outfit that has conceded twice in their last seven home matches across all competitions is far from straightforward for Zinedine Zidane’s men on Wednesday night.

Yet it would be remiss of us not to consider Real’s attack after they extended their scoring streak to 52 successive matches in the weekend derby draw with Atletico.

While Cristiano Ronaldo ($10,200) will undoubtedly prove a popular target for many Fantasy managers, Bale offers a more budget-friendly option and, in terms of piecing together our DraftKings line-ups, is more versatile than his team-mate, who is listed solely as a forward.

The Welshman’s goal threat also caught the eye against Diego Simeone’s side on Saturday afternoon –  a total of five attempts in the 1-1 stalemate was more than any other team-mate.

Riyad Mahrez – Leicester City – $6,500 – M/F
If Craig Shakespeare’s second European match is to end in a positive result, then it could well be a Mahrez set-piece that penetrates the stubborn Atletico back-line.

The Algerian has regained some of last season’s verve of late, notching a pair of goals and an assist over his last five appearances. An impressive 15.6 FPPG in that time frame has also included nine shots on target and 19 crosses.

Arjen Robben – Bayern Munich – $7,200 – M/F
While both Robert Lewandowski ($8,800) and Thomas Muller ($8,300) are expected to recover from a knock and ankle injury respectively, we’ve targeted their experienced team-mate as a more budget-friendly option.

The winger netted in both legs against Arsenal and was on the score-sheet against Dortmund at the weekend. A steady 18 shots and 17 crosses has also helped the Dutchman to 16.2 FPPG in five Champions League starts this season.

Not sure, feel like Sturridge is probably pools most nailed on player for the rest of the season. Maybe Rooney + Batshuyai > Perez + Isaac Success? Then try find a way to fit Janssen in for next week.

    Hi All

On my w/c need a bit of hepful finalising version 2million of my lineup.

    Valdes - Pickford
    Yoshida - Stephens - Stones + 2 more
    Hazard - Alli - Eriksen - B.Davies + 1 more
    Lukaku - Kane - Aguero

The 3 missing players are currenty (Holgate, Byram and Coutinho)

I know I'm tripling up on Spurs attackers and it's a risk, but I'm behind in my ML so am giving it a shot

Zaha is coming for Phil, which leaves 2.5m. I want to save 0.3m to upgarde Kane to Ibra next week.

I'm thinking Gibson +1 more. What are the best options, given the lack of clean sheets from the big hitters?

      C) is tempting me also. Currently on
      D) HOLD.

Zaha & benteke may be overkill. One of those two is plenty and zaha wins that one as nice and cheap.

I think hold is the logical one. Arsenal need to do something drastic after last night. If wenger persists with sanchez on the wing then fair to get rid. So this weekend should tell us a lot.

Top 3 PL referees? (Not necessarily the best, but the ones you feel most comfortable officiating your team)
    1.) Clattenburg
    2.) Friend
    3.) Pawson

Hi, all. I posted something similar yesterday but could use more feedback:

    Grant (HUL)
Baines (BUR) - Walker (BOU) - Davies (BOU)
Sanchez (mid) - Eriksen (BOU) - Firmino (wba) - Grosicki (stk)
Lukaku (BUR) - Aguero (sou) - Carroll (sun)

I like most of my matchups next week, but am really tempted to get in Kane and captain him. Unfortunately,I already have three Spurs. So, which of these options looks best:

    A) Save
    B) Aguero to Kane, and Walker/Davies to Gibson (-4)
    C) Carroll to Kane, Sanchez to Zaha, Walker/Davies to Gibson (-8, but I gain Kane and two DGW34 players)

Note that I don't have anything in the bank, so just swapping King or Grosicki for Zaha doesn't work.

    Cheers.

Hmm not sure about any of those transfers really mate. I'd save because I can see you getting stung by each one. I expect Walker will be back in the team soon. If not, use 2FT next weekend to sort your team out :). Don't need any drastic changes imo... but I'm only 80k so what do I know 😀

Ha. Well, your opinion is valued. I appreciate it.

I'm just under 4K but have had a tough couple of weeks. So I'm just trying to take oness water until my likely WC in GW35.

My knee-jerk would have been to do the -8, but saving is probably prudent for the reasons you mentioned. And I've avoided early transfers and unnecessary hits all year, so why start now?

Thanks! Just need to hope Kane doesn't run riot on Saturday.

          Cool 🙂

Yeah I see - I wildcarded this weekend to get myself some momentum going forward!

Exactly, you're in such a good position cos your method has been working. No need to deviate and take risks!

Me too.. but I'm going to armband Eriksen so if he assists a pile of Kane goals at least it mitigates the pain 😀

            Nice job on the wildcard!

I'm choosing between Kun, Eriksen and Lukaku this week, I think. Probably tossing a bunch of coins to decide.

For me it basically boils down to

In form Zaha and Palace Vs Leicester who will not give too hoots about their game and rest many players again.

      Vs

Boro who will defend for their lives Vs out of form Arsenal and Sanchez maybe on the wing.

Yo hey man! How are you? Not seen you for a while! Season ok 🙂

Holgate, Yoshida probably your go-tos, particularly Holgate with BUR whu and seems to be nailed.

Past those, it's a struggle, I'm punting on Barragan from Boro just hoping he holds out and keeps his spot til after 34!

        Not bad thanks, yourself?

Season slowly picking up pace after an awful xmas / new year. Went from 30k to 500k 😯

I've got Stephens so don't want to double up but Boro a good shout.

Ouchie! I was at 62k at one point but fell all the way to 400k as well. Back up to 80k now - wildcarded this weekend just gone, got bored of red arrows and had so many little changes I wanted to do - and got 88 last gameweek so good wildcard 😀

No idea what I'm gna do this week - I'm thinking I'm just gna roll, don't really want to remove Valencia and I'm not convinced by the Kun -> Kane move loads of ppl are doing... I got Eriksen and Alli and I'll just capt Eriksen I think 🙂

Oh yeah don't double up. As I said, Barragan is OK, either that or don't do anything this week and see if Chambers/Friend/Fabio emerges as being fit in time for 34. Cheers 🙂

Nice WC. :-). Cap Eriksen is ballsey! good luck!

I've got 2FTs, just enough to do -4pt hit:

Llorente, Siggy & Valencia > Kane, Davies & Jags

(allowing me to keep, Kun and Eriksen)

Hey, yeah I suspect he'll start - it's also the reason I'm keeping Valencia, surely JM will play strongest XI in that match though I'm questioning whether I actually cut my losses and get rid for Vertonghen now.

      Yes
      Should start
Utd are 4 behind city with a game in hand.
Basically, top 4 is still within their reach (although unlikely) if they win all their games

Hmm Ibra is a different kettle of fish (it's just an expression - don't mean to alarm you :P), think Valencia in line for a 2pter, and I suspect he won't play 1 of the DGW matches, so not sure what to do with that guy 😀

Have Kun and I think would just about choose him v. Southampton. Chelsea defence not as tight as it was but it's still probably only 1 getting past them a game... reckon Kun has more of a ceiling.

However, I will have Ibra there for DGW 34 and home to Swansea in 35. Worried about captaining cos of the rotation worries. Rashford has puntential there.

      3/2/1.

Eriksen cos he's a differential in my ML, and he has a superb home record when Kane is in the team with him. Gut feel (c) on him this week. I prefer Kane to Alli, think Alli's output is diminished a bit by Kane on the pitch.. but atm it's really splitting hairs and I'd like all 3. Just can't sell Kun yet.

Need some advice guys. Serious benching headache. No FT and 0.5itb
    Pickford (Heaton)
    Valencia Rojo Holgate (Olson, Friend)
    Sanchez Firmino Alli Siggy* Zaha
    Llorente* Lukaku Ibra

Essentially, which of the combo here is best?:
    A) Bench Llorente, next gw AOA with Benteke in for Llorente
    B) Bench Siggy, next gw AOA with Benteke in for Llorente
    C) Bench Zlatan (although dont have the balls for this yet ha), next gw AOA with Benteke in for Llorente
D)AOA this gw, get Benteke, but bench one of my big boys for gw 34.
