Stock Check – Gameweek 34 – Tuesday

Diego Costa delivers his biggest haul of the season as Chelsea put four past Southampton at the Bridge. Eden Hazard scores a fouth in four Gameweeks, while Marcos Alonso and Gary Cahill atone for the lack of a clean sheet with further attacking returns.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
Reinstalled to the Chelsea first XI along with Diego Costa, the Belgian delivered yet again after firing the opener against Southampton.

Having emerged from the bench to see off Spurs with a goal and assist at Wembley, Hazard’s early strike means he has now produced points in six of his last seven league appearances.

That form has taken him above Dele Alli into second spot in the FPL midfield standings and the Blues’ schemer looks an assured target for many Wildcard rebuilding programmes.

Hazard has netted 11 times in front of his own supporters – more than any FPL midfielder – and the schedule from Gameweek 36 onwards (MID, wba & WAT, SUN) looks far too inviting to ignore.

Diego Costa
The Chelsea striker cast aside the recent malaise that brought him just two goals from the previous ten, delivering his best tally of the season and first double-figure return at Stamford Bridge.

The second most transferred-out player for Gameweek 34, Costa was shown the door by over 136,000 FPL managers, only to net twice and provide an assist in an emphatic performance against the Saints.

Hazard remains the star attraction as a route into Conte’s attack, yet Costa – sitting in 29% of squads – has the potential to damage non-owners if he can build on last night’s output.

He was the top transfer target overnight – attracting more than 8,000 new owners.

Marcos Alonso, Gary Cahill
It’s 11 league matches without a clean sheet now for Chelsea.

Yet Alonso and Cahill continue to lead the FPL defender standings thanks to their penchant for points at both ends of the pitch.

Transferred out by over 65,000 managers last week, the Spaniard teed up Cahill for the Blues’ second, taking his tally to five goals and as many assists for the season.

While Alonso remains our Chelsea defender of choice across those favourable fixtures, the Blues’ skipper – who has also now scored on five occasions – could offer a double-up option for those looking to use their Wildcard to load up on the league leaders for the run-in.

Cesc Fabregas
Surprisingly preferred on the right of the front three, Fabregas’ assist for Costa’s goal maintained a remarkable run of consistency at Stamford Bridge.

The playmaker has now produced returns in eight of Chelsea’s last nine home league matches and has been named in the first XI in each of their last four at Stamford Bridge.

Given that the Blues play at home three times – against Middlesbrough, Watford and Sunderland – in the final trio of Gameweeks, Fabregas, at just 6.9 and owned by 1%, could prove a decent, if nonetheless risky, differential.

Manolo Gabbiadini
The January signing supplied the assist for Southampton’s opener and continues to appeal as a mid-price Wildcard option ahead of their Double Gameweeks 36 and 37.

Gabbiadini now has four goals and an assist in six outings, producing points on four of those occasions. After rising quickly to 6.9, he now sits at just 6.4 and boasts only a 3% ownership.

Given that the Saints have home clashes against Hull City and Stoke City on either side of their back-to-back doubles, investment in the Italian looks set to accelerate. He was second only to Costa for transfers in overnight.

In Decline

Pedro
A run of nine straight Gameweek starts came to an end as the Spaniard dropped to the bench for the Saints’ encounter.

Pedro’s form has hardly been the most convincing – just a single assist in six before last night – but after being named as a substitute in the weekend cup win over Spurs, many expected him to return to Conte’s teamsheet.

He did at least emerge from the bench to earn an assist and may well return to the starting XI at Goodison Park this weekend. But the doubts now hovering over his pitch-time could well persuade would-be suitors to steer clear.

Nathan Redmond
Prior to last night, no outfield player had started more league matches for Southampton this season than Redmond.

Named in the Saints’ first XI in 28 of the opening 31 Gameweeks, the winger was among the subs as Puel handed Sofiane Boufal the chance to impress.

Having netted three times in six before last night, Redmond – at 5.9 – looked like offering a cheaper route into the Saints’ midfield than Dusan Tadic. Yet with James Ward-Prowse, at 5.0, starting each of the last nine, the 6%-owned Redmond could be best avoided.

Sane could be a great differential. And Gabbi looks great against Hull.
Most managers should be getting both if wildcarding this week.
I've just got both in my wildcard team

I can't see Negredo doing much vs City, but Sane vs Boro is equally tempting! Will have both on w/c like above. Getting Gabbi in before a price rise could be handy though I guess need all the 0.1m's I can get.

I was at Boro v city in the cup a few weeks ago and Sane absolutely tortured us ! We are so weak at the right side of defence. I'm thinking about giving Sane the arm band

Mourinho was playing with 3 centre -backs until Jones and Smalling got injured. Do we think he will revert back to that formation when Jones and Smalling are back? I think yes. They are expected to be back in middle of next month (GW 37) and can be back as soon as start of next month (GW 36). Jones at 4.5m will be a great pick then.

    Thoughts?

Jones will crash into someone/something on his comeback and get injured again no doubt.

Too much of thinking for players who aren't even fit yet, playing for a team who are unsure if they want to have a go in the league games or not, for a manager who rotates his players for fun. Avoid everyone except for DDG or Bailly from that lot.

It ain't any overthinking. Mourinho played with 3 CBs both in the PL and Europa. When they are fit, you should be bringing them in your team (those who decide) and not waste your FT/wildcard, there will be very less time to think then.

Well back then most of the team was fit. Now you have to count no Ibra no Mata, Pogba toubles, Valencia and Bailly will be probably fatigued by then...and Martial is proving he can be of some use, the question is in which position.

My wild guess would be NO. Too many question marks...

Mourinho's patience is wearing thin with both i wouldn't touch either of them..

Jones could be 3.5 and wouldn't be a great pick as 1) He is far from nailed on and 2) Even if he was his injury record is bordering on ridiculous

I would steer well clear personally

    B
    Walcott > Sane (-4 GW35)
    Zaha > Ozil (GW 36)

Redid my wildcard team. Doing it in 36 for a bench boost in 37. What do you reckon?

    Cech, Courtois
    Holgate. Yoshida, Stephens, Davies, Smith

I'd say too much money tied up in the keepers. Chelsea haven't been keeping clean sheets so maybe downgrade Courtois to Pickford or Hennessey (SGW but home to HUL) and upgrade a defender to Alonso or Kosc.

Probably Lukaku once he's over blanking against Chelsea. Even though Gabbi has more matches.

For all its worth I took Lukaku out this week on WC.
That was hard, plus I.had some value in him.

Team value after wc dropped to 105.6 from 107.1

What you guys think of following WC:

    Cech/Pickford
    Alonso-Stephens-Clichy-Yoshi-Huth
    King-Haz-Sanchez-Alli-Coutinho
    Kane-Gabbi-Anichebe

Then save 2 transfers and do like following in GW37:

    Coutinho -> Capoue/JWP
    Anichebe -> Costa/Jesus

So will play 3-5-2 until GW37 where I switch to 3-4-3 and get better striker and downgrade to cheaper mid that have DGW.
I feel that def can work out pretty good, skipping United because they have hard fixtures and I think they will concede.

    1. Mick J
      • 8 Years

Your plan seems reasonable. You could consider Holgate in for Stephens to avoid double Southampton in defence. Everton’s gameweek 37 fixture is pretty good. Personally I would try to get in Sané, but I see that might be difficult without sacrificing elsewhere, and City’s lineups will probably be hard to predict.

But why would you even consider Capoue?

      1. ptr88
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 12 days ago

Yes Holgate could be a good alternativ. Exactly and Pep rotation is hard to predict..
Just looking at cheap mids that has double gameweek to maybe earn some extra points when playing BB. If I go for Costa I will only have 4.6 left..And Capoue seems to start all games. But all depends what striker I will go with.

I’ve completely forgotten that Watford has a double gameweek 37. I agree that Capoue seems pretty certain to get you 4 points—and suddenly he scores again. The Watford assets seem to be under the radar, perhaps understandably.

When is Mustafi supposed to be back? I want to have one of Gabriel or Holding for that GW37 double so will probably hold off until I know who will be first choice alongside Mustafi and Kos in the 3.

      I have the same midfield.

Kane, Gabb and anicibe upfront and....

Your Clichy and vert costs more than my stones and Daniels I think?

I'm quite happy with Daniels, he can easily outscore someone with a DGW imo (just like this week).

As for Stones, I totally agree with you but i don't have enough to get Clichy. Then again it's a bit of a lottery either way 🙂

Think I'm going for either one of two options for my GW35 WC:

    - - - A - - -
    Cech / Pickford
    Alonso / Vertonghen / Clichy / Stephens / Holgate
    Sánchez / Hazard / Eriksen / Sané / King
    Kane / Jesus / Gabbiadini

    - - - B - - -
    Cech / Pickford
    Alonso / Vertonghen / Clichy / Stephens / Holgate
    Sánchez / Hazard / Eriksen / King / Zaha
Kane / (Costa or Lukaku) / Gabbiadini

Does option B looks a little better for GW35?

The issue with not going for A is that I only have the -exact- funds for it. If I go for B, and Sané/Jesus rise at all, I can't switch back to A (unless Zaha, Lukaku or Costa rises 0.2).

Given the unpredictable price changes, is option B too much of a risk?

    1. Phreak4piano
      • 7 Years
      7 years, 12 days ago

Why is not being able to switch to A a problem? If you go with option B, why are you wanting to switch back to A at all? I prefer A regardless

      1. HazardAGuess
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 12 days ago

I'd switch back from B to A as Zaha doesn't have as favourable fixtures in the run-in & I'd like some City attackers.

Option B takes into account Costa & Zaha's propensity to play each game. I do think Costa will score a few more in the run-in, as I'm sure Lukaku will, but it's more of an opportunity cost thing, really.

I'll probably go A in the end, as I have to bench one of the front 8 (except in GW37) anyway - just scouting for ideas.

He is a bit of a risk, but fortunately we have the Man City game to asses before the deadline. I can also bench him & play the other front 7, if forced to.

So it's Costa + Zaha v Jesus + Sane? Wait and see if Jesus gets any minutes tomorrow but I just can't see him outscoring Costa (eve, MID, wba, WAT, SUN) from now til the end of the season. Will Sane outscore Zaha by enough for it to be worth it? Also with A you have a benching headache in 35, 36 and 38.

      I think I prefer B.

    Heaton (Pickford)
    Alonso Valencia Gibson (Mawson Stephens)
    Sanchez Eriksen Alli Sane Zaha
    Kane Benteke (Anichebe)
    1.7itb, 2FT, no WC

    Transfers over next 2 weeks:
    A) Gibson, Valencia, Zaha, Benteke > Daniels, Bailly, Hazard, Barnes
    B) Gibson, Valencia, Zaha, Alli > Daniels, Bailly, King, Hazard

First option means playing 4-5-1, but on the other hand I don't have enough team value to get anyone better than Benteke in a 4-4-2.
