I have Sanchez and Hazard heading into GW37 and rival (-20 points) has Kdb. I am bench boosting and he will probably TC this week with BB in 38.

Do I need to change either of them to Kdb and make him captain to protect my lead?? If so, which ??

He'd hate that. Might be smart move. I'd prolly keep Sanchez as Haz might already be on holidays in the second game.

Makes sense. I don't need to gamble. Do worry about Chelsea rotation for 2nd game.

Would anyone like to guess how many points you'd have if you'd logged on pre-season, picked the team below and then forgotten all about it....

    Heaton,
    Cahill, Azpi, Walker
    Sanchez (C), Alli, Eriksen, King
    Lukaku (VC), Costa, Defoe

    Grant, Coleman, Gibson, Capoue

I know this was created with the benefit of hindsight but I still think it is interesting to see that you don't need to chop and change all the time.

            • 8 Years
            6 years, 11 months ago

But this is obvious anyway. Classic example, chopping and changing 3rd striker. Let's say you have Llorente and he blanks 3 in a row. So you take a hit to get Negredo who just bagged a brace and has a good fixture whole Llorente has a difficult fixture. Then Llorente scored and Negredo banks. And so on and so forth. You miss the players points by chasing so much. Similar to Kane's hat trick, lots of people ditched after he blanked in 2 easy home games and missed a penalty I think. Then he bagged 3 goals the following week.

I lost 35 points by taking a hit for Siggy to Lallana a few months back o ly to take another hit to get Siggy in a few weeks later. Missed all his points and got all Lallana's blanks. That was my most costly f up this season, could be pushing for top 10k only for that....

    Alonso/Gabriel/Blind/Yosh/Holgate
    Sanch/Hazard/Alli/JWP/Sane
    Jesus/Gabbi/Kane

Have a 40 point lead in ML and will BB this week

Does anyone know if Costa/Chelsea have expressed any desire to win the Golden Boot? A lot is said about Kane but Costa is only 1 goal behind with far better fixtures.

I just wonder if Costa were to close the gap on Lukaku on Friday night whether he could play the final 2 games. It's a long shot anyway and perhaps too risky to make Costa captain but he did play 90 against Boro when it looked like late goals were very possible.

Of course he'll want to win it -- he'll have a huge $$ bonus in his contract for it

But Conte seems like the type who won't give charity minutes -- he'll decide what's best for the cup final if Chelsea wrap the league up with game(s) to spare

He doesn't like seem to like Batshuayi too much though so he might give Costa the opportunity if it's a realistic possibility.

Could be a decent captain punt if you're chasing in a ML. 2 x 6 day gaps between their last 3 games (incl. Cup Final).

      Been a long time now.

It's so much more painful to me to see our club (assuming you're a Gooner and not a Barca fan) do the exact same thing every year and implode around November, get better around Jan, then implode again in Feb/March due to the same issues 🙂

It is, and yes I am, but I am one to look at the long term. The Arsenal is in great shape financially, and success will be around the corner. I don't really get why so many gooners get so impetuous and start demanding trophies every season - they sound more like Utd fans to me.

Haha it's been about the long term for years now mate. You don't create memories from an amazing balance sheet. We're fans of our team because we want to win and be the best, like we were back in the early 00s. I can't see why, if you're a fan, you can't have an opinion about the teams' progression, how money is spent (or not spent) and the manager, even if I do agree that a lot of it (see Arsenal Fan TV) is rabid lunacy.

We are like United fans cos we want our team to win as much as they want theirs to win! Nothing wrong with that. Though I agree that there is a prickle of entitlement given our stature.

Same squad that beat Chelsea 3-0 earlier in the season. IMHO the Bayern games knocked the stuffing out of the squad and they are only just now beginning to recover from it. It's absolutely bloody essential that Sanchez stays next season, because we aren't that far away from a league winning squad. *takes cover*

            1. Individual
              • 10 Years
              6 years, 11 months ago

We need some determination and leaders on the pitch to be able to recover from things like that. It happens every year where we have a great result (see us beating City last year) then suddenly the same things happen again.
It's happened so many times that it's clearly systemic now - and the buck stops with the man Chips Keswick says is 100% in charge of the club, the manager.

It's essential Sanchez stays. But if we don't make it for the UCL, he and Ozil will go. Hope we have a "Chelsea effect", but the mentality has been so fragile for so many years that I think real change is needed.

yep...can't believe Wenger doesn't get more criticism for not availing of the buyback...incredible decision. he's so superior to any of our midfielders it's untrue

We've got real issues with scouting and player purchase. I think I moved from pro- to anti- Wenger on that decision. I'm sorry, but Cesc is such a quality player, and IDC what he thinks we need quality players and some hard-nosed decision making to succeed (see issues like le donkey being in contention as our FIRST CHOICE striker - what a B- player he is, why we didn't sign Higuain I really don't know). He has too much faith in players who time after time are unable to perform, especially in the big games.

agreed..Giroud still starting crucial North London derbies 5 years on is just crazy...slows everything down..nothing more than a back-up striker. midfield is an are i'm really worried about now...don't have enough physical presence there..hopefully will be a busy summer!

Slows the play down. Bad first touch. Finishes one in every five or 6 chances I'd say, where two or three of those chances are absolute sitters.

Really have to hope we can pull something out in the summer. But I bet we end up trusting in Xhaka, a returning Santi (who we have really missed, though him becoming our central midfield fulcrum is another matter I don't wana go into lol) and Coquelin/Elneny. But we need better players.
