The Stock Check – Gameweek 37 – Tuesday

Double Gameweek 37 justifies our collective show of faith as Alexis Sanchez nets twice to strengthen his position at the Fantasy Premier League summit, while Manchester City pair Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne both bag double-figure hauls at home to West Brom.

On the Rise

Alexis Sanchez
After a patchy last couple of months, the Chilean perfectly timed his return to form with a 27-point haul in Double Gameweek 37 – the highest tally from any individual this season.

Sanchez had approached the Gunners’ recent Double Gameweek 36 with just a single goal in six outings but, after initially struggling in the new 3-4-2-1 set-up, now seems to have found his feet.

Captained by 10.6% of FPL managers and triple captained by a massive 70,000+, the Arsenal attacker has served up three successive double-figure tallies ahead of a home encounter with an Everton side that already look to have their minds on pre-season.

Having cemented his spot as the top-scoring player in FPL, our faith in Sanchez is on the rise once again – with 11 double-digit hauls to his name, many will be happy to keep the armband on the South American for Gameweek 38 as Arsenal attempt to seal a top four finish.

The underlying numbers also back up that call – only three occasions this season has a player fired more attempts in a single match than Sanchez’s nine against the Black Cats.

Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud
Arsenal laid siege to the Sunderland goal and Ozil was the chief architect.

The German registered an astonishing 12 key passes for team-mates at the Emirates – at least four more than any player in a single match this season.

Despite only collecting an assist, Ozil still claimed the maximum bonus thanks to his creative endeavours.

A frustrating source of inconsistency, the Arsenal playmaker also seems to be benefitting from the new tactical tweak – he’s produced points in three successive matches for the first time this season, ending Double Gameweek 37 with 15 points for his 7% owners.

Giroud, meanwhile, retained his starting berth after bagging a brace in the weekend win at Stoke.

Drafted in by just over 17,000 for the Gunners’ pair of fixtures, he emerged as a huge differential by serving up 18 points for his 3% owners – the second best total among forwards in the Gameweek to date.

With Arsene Wenger looking to maintain momentum ahead of the upcoming FA Cup final, Giroud seems set to continue ahead of Danny Welbeck as the lone striker on Sunday afternoon.

Rob Holding
Priced at just 4.1, the summer signing from Bolton started all four of Arsenal’s matches across Double Gameweeks 36 and 37, amassing 22 points in the process.

Subject to over 100,000 transfers in ahead of last Friday’s deadline, Holding’s displays as part of Wenger’s back-three bodes well for his prospects next time around.

Indeed, the same can be said for the Gunners’ recent improvement in defence. Arsenal have four clean sheets in seven since that change of formation in Gameweek 33 – prior to that, they’d kept out their opponents in just two of nine league encounters.

Gabriel Jesus
The number one transfer target for Double Gameweek 37, Man City’s January signing duly delivered for his 217,000+ new owners.

Despite being shuffled onto the right wing to accommodate Sergio Aguero through the middle, Jesus still fired more shots (five), efforts inside the box (five) and attempts on target (four) than any team-mate on his way to grabbing a goal and assist against West Brom last night.

Averaging 7.8 FPL points per start, the Brazilian’s impact since arriving at the Etihad will have already earned him a place in many managers’ squads for next season.

Jesus has produced six goals and three assists in seven starts – the only time he failed to deliver returns when named in the first XI was back in Gameweek 25, when he limped off injured against Bournemouth after just 14 minutes.

Currently the top scoring forward for Double Gameweek 37 on 19 points, he’s set to challenge Sanchez for that Gameweek 38 armband as City visit a Watford defence hit hard by injury and suspension.

Kevin De Bruyne
Number one for transfers in (128,000+) among FPL midfielders ahead of the double Gameweek, the Belgian recovered from a weekend blank at home to Leicester to justify the investment.

De Bruyne’s goal, assist and maximum bonus helped him to a total of 15 points over City’s pair of fixtures – a 13-point tally against the Baggies was his third in the last six outings in an explosive end to the season.

Despite a relatively disappointing campaign, De Bruyne sits as the top creator in FPL – a total of 19 assists is more than any player and just one less than double his haul of 10 from 2015/16.

Providing he can up his goal threat in his second year under Pep Guardiola, City’s playmaker looks set to play a prominent part in our future plans.

In Decline

Sergio Aguero
Boasting more owners (17%) and armbands (8.1%) than any Man City player, the Argentine made a welcome return to Guardiola’s teamsheet after being utilised as a sub in the first match of their double Gameweek.

He was handed the central role as Jesus moved to the right flank, but mustered just one assist in the 3-1 victory and fired only a single attempt from inside the penalty area.

Although he’s picked up points in seven of his last eight league starts, there’s no doubt that the Argentine is struggling for explosive output – he’s managed just one double-figure haul from Gameweek 14 onwards, whereas Jesus has three in his seven starts over that period.

While Guardiola’s teamsheet again highlighted that he has no qualms over starting his two strikers, there’s also no question that Aguero has struggled to justify that lofty £12.7m price tag under the new manager this season.

Raheem Sterling
Guardiola’s decision to employ both Aguero and Jesus in the same XI saw Sterling drop to the bench.

As the season has unfolded under City’s new manager, the former Liverpool man’s influence has faded. He started 22 of their first 26 matches – no player was named in the first XI on more occasions – on his way to delivering six goals and 12 assists.

Since then, he’s started seven of the subsequent 11, serving up one goal and a pair of assists, and blanked in seven of his nine appearances.

With the versatile Jesus also more than able to deliver the goods from a wide position, Sterling’s security of pitch-time looks in question as Pep builds for next season. Guardiola has now played Jesus and Aguero together in two league matches – Sterling has failed to start on either of those occasions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Stuck on final transfers, have 2 freebies:

    A) Anichebe & Hazard > Sturridge & Carroll (switch to 3-4-3 with Kane & Jesus up front)
    B) Hazard & King > Coutinho & Fabregas (stick with 3-5-2)

Wise to get rid of King? The home theory is clouding his incredible form

Correct, Leicester at home and Spurs away (both 10pt'ers). So in theory he should produce again tonight :co

Im interested to know what peoples success with hits is like. With that in mind, ive tallied up mine as follows:

    Current rank: 2934

    4pt - 8 green, 2 red
    8pt - 3 green, 3 red
    12pt(!) - 1 green

Overall it seems ive done alright out of the hits this year, certainly 4pt ones seem to have served me very well. Not sure if anyone else can be bothered to look at theirs (doesn't take long) but certainly be interesting to see.

Interesting, although the value of taking a hit isn't really quantifiable by the next GW's arrow colour. The impact is much more long term and there are a lot of questions / variables that need to be answered before you could define it as a success or not, e.g. what if they were only small greens, while if you'd kept the old players they would have been much bigger?

      1. Qubit
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 11 months ago

I agree completely! Trouble is, taking that all into account is very difficult and im not really of the opinion that a green or red immediately following a hit is necessarily a good indicator either way, but im interested to see what if any immediate impact it has had.

The impact is obviously longer term, but will likely become diluted somewhat as you get further away each week, due to other moves made etc.

Majority of my hits in the first half of the season were reds, whereas second half I've had majority green arrows for my hits. Not sure if there's something in there but worth having a look

better knowledge of the players later on in the season, plus I think players perform more consistently as the season goes on

Early season transfers also tend to be driven by profit and limited funds ... later season ones are more tactical

I just got killed by the first international break

Got worried about having too many South Americans, who burnt me last season ... cost me quite a bit in hits to try and avoid the problem but ended up scoring a grand total of 8 for gw13

I rarely find that I am worse of for hits and the team gets better overall ... the killer is when there has been a really low scoring game week and your score is just wiped out by the hits

First international break next season I will probably avoid hits and just suck up the poor performances by the players instead

Its difficult, things are more volatile early on and you do need to take a few risks to get the right bandwagons in to get the points in and hopefully the TV up as well.

      weeks 34 to 37 I took -8, -8, -16, -12 ... 4 greens rising from 453L to 161K

For when I have taken more than 2 transfers (I never have FT)

      8pt - 6 green / 5 red
      12pt - 2 green / 5 red
      16pt - 7 green / 3 red
      24pt - 2 red

The 4 times I have taken just -4 I have had green arrows

The one thing I've concluded this season is that it is far better to do 5 transfers than 4
4 always feel likes a compromise to limit the hits ... so next season I will tend to stick to 3 or 5 transfers per week

If we knew Hazard was playing 90 minutes versus Sunderland, would we keep him?

I've concluded there's no upside to spending points on any forwards - e.g. Vardy or Sturridge as Kane/Jesus/Costa have as much chance of scoring big

I've done Hazard to Coutinho - keeping Sanchez / Alli / KDB .... I just wanted Hazard out of my time on Monday night

With a couple of million free and only 2 Chelsea players, I've punted on Azpi to replace Stephens
I wasn't expecting this but Azpi/Alonso vs Sunderland makes me feel good

Interesting spot I'm in. Leading my mini-league by a narrow margin (34 points). 1 FT. 1.6 ITB.

Rival has a backline of Blind, Yoshida, Holding, Huth (Maguire).

My backline is Alonso, Cahill, Baines, (Olsson and Love).

He has KDB and Llorente differentials where I have Carroll and Kane in this positions. We share all other MF and FW players.

      1) Does getting KDB over Coutinho make sense here?
      2) Since Alonso will likely be rested, who should I bring in?

      Caballero - Jaku

      Alonso - Cahill - Baines - Olsson - Love

      King - Sanchez - Alli - Sane - Carroll

      Kane - Gabbi - Jesus

        I could do...

        Alonso > Clyne
        King > Coutinho (-4)
        Gabbi > Llorente (-4)

What to do with this lot:

      1FT 0.2 ITB

      Willy
      Alonso Monreal Stephens
      Hazard Sanchez Alli King
      Jesus Kane Costa

      Pickford--Davies--Holding--Caroll

Maybe Haz > Cout, but scared he might even play!

I'm keeping. Think he'll feature for bout 70 mins or so. Can do plenty for that time. Conte wants him to find his form for the final since the blanks last weeks.

        Keep.

Playing Sunderland on the day they get the PL trophy. He should get some returns from that game even if he has limited playing time

        B. Isn't in a good run and has little to play for. Not sure Che will be as focused as they usually are.

I'm finding it really hard to move him on, despite returns of late. Call it the Chelsea fan in me.

I suppose it depends on news from Conte, but I don't expect many specifics.

      My 3 seasons at FPL:
      2014/2015
Started when my brother, his son and few others told me about this game, OK, I'm always ready for some competition. I watched football many years ago but at this point I didnt follow much, but usually knew how things were going for my team, ManU.
I knew just few names, Rooney, Gerrard, Terry, Lampard and few others. I started very slow, maybe around 1 million OR at Christmas.
Then I popped into this FFS site, soon got half year membership and took it more seriously following articles and advises, since my brother and most other in the family league was way above me.
Ended at OR 122,911 and 3rd in family league, was quite happy with that since climbed very much second half of season.
      2015/16
Few workbuddies also played fantasy so we started a league, and lot of talk about it (Friday and Monday at least). Opened FFS every day.
Ended at OR 9,748, won both family league and work-league
      2016/17
Things going even better, now at OR 1749 and nr. 7 in my country(Iceland) out of around 10.000.
      Thanks FFS!

      couple of quick questions:
      1) Thoughts on getting rid of either(or both) king and tadic?
      2) Best mids for gw38...coutinho / siggy / martial / mahrez..pick two?
      3) Who to start between willy (wat) or pickford (chel)..pick for save points?
