The ScoutCast – Episode 227 – Lift Off

An unprecedented summer podcast arrives following the Fantasy Premier League launch, as Jonty, Andy and Luke join me in the afterglow of a joyous day.

Technically “on the beach” and fighting back to full fitness, we nonetheless brave the airwaves to chime in on the price list, reclassified players and some early formation dancing.

We glory in the potential bargains, lament the overpriced and make bold claims on our lineups that will doubtless be reversed come August 11. If Andy has Chris Brunt in his Gameweek 1 squad, I’ll eat my Free Hit chip.

The FPL Draft game gets a rinsing, and we end the show with our proud declaration of our team ID’s. A conclusion that leaves me feeling rather inadequate even before a ball has been kicked.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Potential bargain if Shaw can nail down the LB role?

Of course. Possible, but I very much doubt he will "nail it down" from the start of the season.

No need to risk him, easy to buy him if it happens

Fair point. I'm going to keep an eye on pre-season see what the situation is nearer the time.

Definitely. Helluvan 'if' though. He'll be on my watchlist until he can prove himself to have nailed the LB spot.

Chelsea have a horrific run at the start of the season, better options out there than Luiz if you want to err on the safe side.

    Foster- Elliot
Cedric -Lindelof- Rangel - Trippier- Yoshida
De bryune- Coutinho - Tadic - Loftus Cheek- Caroll
    Defoe -Kane- Lukaku

Decided to double on Southampton defence since they're cheap with good early fixtures. Fully expected Walker to be sold and Trippier to step in as first choice RB. Can play 3 or 4 at the back depending on fixture.

Midfield is a bit light but don't really see any good sub 9.0m options anyways(except Sigurdsson if he move to Everton). Southampton has some good fixtures and but he can be swapped to Stanislas/Ritchie/Zaha easily.
Genuinely think Kane and Kaku are both necessary as their price tag make it easy to swap to Lacazatte or Jesus if they explode. Third choice striker is debatable but think Defoe is more proven. Can be swapped to Gayle easily as well.

Comments are very much appreciated! Already very excited for the upcoming season.

      Nice main 5.

Tadic isn't my favourite pick, but a decent punt. I think your defence needs work. Mainly you'll be playing 4-3-3.

I'd go for two rotating 4.5s over Yoshida and Rangel. And Bertrand over Trippier.

Nice team, but I don't feel like getting any ManCity players before we see if Pep keeps rotating as much as before, so you could replace KDB with Alli/Eriksen, using the profit to upgrade your 3 small mids.
As for Trippier, I really hope Walker leaves too.

    Foster - (Elliot)
    Lindelöf - Cedric - Stephens - McAuley - Dawson
    Eriksen - Alli - (Loftus-Cheek - Carroll - Chalobah)
    Lukaku - Aguero - Jesus

You can do a better 5-2-3.

I would lose McAuley and Stephens. I'm very wary of Spurs at Wembley (pitch size, Spurs need adapt playing style + not intimidating for away teams). I would go Aguero or Jesus.

Had a little fiddle with my team and this is what I have come up with. Any glaring errors? 🙂

    Lukaku Benteke Firmino

    Elliot RLC Mee Yedlin

Cout is not a reliable option imo, as all the Pool options share the points and he might be playing deeper too. Tekkers is defo not an option for me. Playing it safe here.

Fair enough, still think there will be plenty of options every week with big players playing smaller teams. Prefer to keep it fun rather than sticking it on Kane or Aguero every week. Could bite me in the a*se though! 😉

Go with your gut. Jesus will definitely be Peps main man as showed last year but Rom could score hatfuls.

Prefer Rom myself as he is more proven over the years.

How so? Even as a Liverpool fan i think he will do really well. He will be the main man, scored 25 goals last year in an average Everton team. Could easily score alot more with better player saround him.

            • 7 Years

I just feel like his price tag may have an impact on him and I've never rated him that highly anyway, feel like if he starts poorly it will go downhill. Just a gut feeling really.

I dont rate him as a footballer haha. First touch is dreadful. He's a big big guy with plenty of pace and can finish. Seems to be in the right place at the right time. Sometimes thats all you need! Will definitely be interesting to see how it pans out for him.

Thanks guys. Yeah my gut says Jesus - I can see kaku getting 20 prem goals this season but just worries me that he's only ever done it once before. Do you think Jesus' minutes are secure?

at the end of last season Jesus was starting wide right with Aguero in the middle and Sane on the left side of the front 3. I prefer Aguero and Sane for now unless we see something different in pre-season

Hi fellas. Anyone considered a rotation with RLC (4.5) and Barnes (5.5) which means a switch between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3? Their fixtures rotate pretty well.

    I've nailed it.

    Foster Elliot
    Lindelof Cedric Francis Lascelles Rangel
    Alli Zaha Redmond willian Carroll
    Lukaku Aguero Lacazette

My only Choice would be Alli/Aguero or Kane/Sane and have gone with the first option, thoughts?
