FPL Draft Is Released

As promised, Fantasy Premier League Draft has been released and is now available.

The new game is free to play and runs in parallel with, and as an addition to, “traditional” FPL. If you’re registered for that game, you can immediately get involved with Draft.

The links don’t end there. The Draft uses the same scoring system as FPL with only one exception – there are no captains or vice captains.

The first step is to create or join a league.

Private leagues can include up to 16 managers, although the game itself states that eight is the recommended number. That is the limit for public leagues – you can enter those with random members of the FPL Draft community.

Like the traditional FPL game, leagues can run in the classic form or in the head-to-head format.

The key selling point of Draft is that, within a league, each 15-man squad is unique. So only one team in each league can own Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku.

The draft system used is described as a “Snake Draft”, where managers take it in turns to select players until a squad is complete over 15 rounds. There is no budget or player prices.

League administrators can set a draft date and time for private leagues, while public league drafts begin 24 hours after the first team joins.

You can build a Watchlist before the draft, and this can act both as a shortlist of players you’re coveting and also a list to govern your automatic picks should you be “away from keyboard”.

Things get really interesting when we start dealing with transfers after the draft is complete. Bear with us on this.

Transfers, or “Transactions”, are made in two ways – managers can make what is called “Waiver Requests” or they can dip into the Free Agent pool.

After the draft, all the remaining players are up for grabs but, initially, only through waivers.

These operate like transfer requests from managers who propose both the player they want and the player being swapped out.

A weekly deadline is set for waivers to take place and, when that is reached, they operate a lot like the draft.

Indeed, before the season starts, managers get their first waiver requests granted in the reverse order of the draft. So if you went last in the draft in Round 1, you will be the first to get your waiver request processed.

However, once you have succeeded with a Waiver, you go to the back of the queue.

Things change when the season starts, with the waivers granted in reverse order of the league table. So if you’re bottom, your waiver will be granted first to give you the best opportunity to strengthen your team.

Players that are free agents become available once all the waiver requests are made. These consist of players remaining in the pool and players that were released by other managers in the previous Gameweek.

Managers can draw from the free agent pool 24 hours before the Gameweek deadline and it’s on a first come, first served basis.

There are no direct trades between managers.

That, I think, provides a summary of how the transfer system works. However, it is somewhat difficult to explain, and further examination of the rules may reveal other mechanics missed or misinterpreted.

Fantasy Premier League have published an FAQ on the Draft game, and the full rule set is available here.

In addition, community writer and experienced draft campaigner Pav A Nice Day has already published two essential articles. His tips for success was followed today with his own draft rankings to help shape your personal Watchlist.

We will certainly be playing FPL Draft this season. Will you? Vote in our poll on the homepage, or via your slide-in menu on mobile, and let us know.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Draft question:

Where does Sanchez stand in your rankings?

Would you pick him over Aguero, Jesus, Lacazette or Morata?

Bit coverish I know but you can't have em all. Tadic and Ramsey are there mainly for fixtures. Willian until Hazard returns and I think Sane might do well this season. That's the logic behind it anyway!

Had a Draft game set up last night.
Max League size 8 and still 16 ended up joining. Didn't know how the game would process the over subscription so kept it as it is and well All 16 stayed and drafted.
Obviously all of us ended with below par teams. Here's mine.

    De Gea Carlow
Trippier McAuley van Aanholt Lovren ASmith
De Bruyne Wijnaldum Ayew Wanyama Barkley
    Rashford Iheanacho Abraham

        Potential upside to all three.
Rashford first choice from the left for Mourinho
        Iheanacho first choice at Leicester?
Abraham will get minutes till Llorente is back.

Guess having a decent plan amidst the madness helped
Was 7th so that definitely helped a bit as I got to pick once in every 10 selections.
Wanyama will most likely be traded out for a free agent like Lamela once fit or Boufal if first choice
Had to get Barkley simply becoz he'll end up somewhere and will do good. Doesn't hurt as a fifth pick

Most template teams have Lukaku & Kane.

Personal opinion is to get those two in and then build around that. Ownership will make it very risky to not have both to begin with.

He should have scored more last season + Wenger has been using formation that is more Ramsey friendly again. What's not to like for 7M? At least till we find a diamond in another team.

No need to think too hard.

    Kane or Alli ?

Obviously Kane is the better player but choosing Alli and someone like Lacazette as a replacement would free up about 2 million which can be used to get more points from mid/def

Without knowing his value as of yet, would you have Morata over any of Lukaku, Lacazette, Kane or Aguero? Its tough to decide whether to go for tried and trusted proven FPL options or take a punt on the new guys.

I have made it a personal rule to never go for unproven PL players, been bitten way to many times

Agreed. I am thinking of a big frontline of Kane, Lukaku and Aguero as it makes it easy to change if any of the others start on fire.

Difficult with new players like you say. I wouldn't have him ahead of Agüero, Kane & Lukaku but I'd take him ahead of Lacazette purely because Chelsea are a better team than Arsenal.

Have just done some digging. Seems like:

          Number of career penalties scored:

          Coutinho - 0
          Firmino - 3
Salah - 3 (but only 1 in last 5 years)
          Mane - 1 (1 missed in EPL)

          Doesn't look too promising.....

    Thoughts on the following?

Can't say with certainty, but the way last season played out it was as if Pep is trying to push Aguero out... so Jesus seems more nailed on

Having said that, Sane was brilliant last year and is unlikely to lose his place, its just that there is a lot of competition

    Schmiechel
    Cahill,Azpi,Kolasinac,Monreal
    Siggy,Klaassen,Arnie,Mooy
    Kane,Rooney

    Foster,Sandro,Henderson,Maguire

Ok. Midfield on weak side but all the big names were gone by the time my pick came back round so decided to go big on defence.
A little heavy on Everton especially if Siggy goes there.

      Courtois Begovic
      Moses Ake Darmian Mustafi Keane
      Son Alli Coutinho Antonio Walters

In the sky game Morata is 12.2 and Lacazette 11.8 I know it is a different scoring system, but judging by this he unlikely to be below 10.5 at least

At what price does he make your team trig?

I am nervous about a PL newboy as always. I do think making sure we can afford him if required is important though.

Not sure Elliot will play, might be safer on Myhill.

      Evans and Foster double-up?

      Kompany looks expensive.

      Midfield looks good.

Monitor Loftus, especially with next point in mind.

Banking on Austin could be gold, but I think there is too much risk there. We would all love a nailed on Austin.

Elliot is the nailed one until they sign another imo.
Double up on Pulis side always pays dividend.
Austin is my secret weapon.. nice fixtures and with JRod now gone, I think he is nailed. Was always nailed until injured.

Probably - but the question should be "is KDB worth the additional 1.5m over Sane?".

Since gw22, no midfielder had more touches in the penalty area than Sane.....

I nearly missed out on having a playing keeper in a 16 team FPL draft league last night, by round 9 Hennessey was the only likely start left !

With only 20 likely starters in the PL, it only takes 5 of the other 15 teams to have a backup keeper or rotating pair and your shrewd.

This... By the time Liverpool get to the Arsenal game at anfield in GW3, it will be their FIFTH game in 14 days! And they're not small/cup games either, the champions league qualifiers worth about £50m in TV money, lots of pressure & tough schedule. Not sure that will go well with Coutinho's hamstrings.

Then there's the whole Mane, Coutinho, Salah, Firmino, Lallana thing... They can't all score points, unless liverpool are getting 4 goals a game there's going to be a fair few blanks amongst that bunch.

Started 33 out of 37, injured for one game. So, 33 out of 37 games isn't '100% absolutely no doubt at all nailed' 😉

Therein lies the issue, even the most nailed option still gets benched under Pep

Very few players aside from keepers play 38 games a season. 33 out of 35 is a good enough statistic.

KdB started 33 out of 37 he was available for, but i agree is by far the most nailed, but I don't want £10 mill sitting on my bench, even for 4 games of the season.

I don't think that is quite the comparison and options though ?

I want a City attacker but there are always other options that are 100% nailed, or if not, at least as close as you can get without as much risk of rotation.

        KdB or Alli/Eriksen
        Sane or Coutinho
        Any mid v 7mill mob
        Aguero or Kane
        Jesus or Lacazette/Defoe etc

I posted something similar a while ago. Like you I really want at least one City attacking player. Gut says Jesus but head says KDB. Had a thought about fitting them both in, then if one gets rotated it's not the end of the world if you have a playing bench option to come in for one week.

That is something I have contemplated with Arsenal players in the past, sort of helps.

I just don't want the agony of the being part of the 'scenes' when my prime £10 mill player is picking splinters out of his arse on the bench at the start of a game or the final 30 mins of a game when City are running riot 🙂

Ha ha. Yep, exactly! My gut is though that Jesus will play most games. Young, super fit and Pep loves him. Remember last season when he was coming back from injury - even when obviously not fully fit, Pep put him straight back in the team and he stayed there for the remaining games.
